mike: rachel flanagan from the red cross of southern nevada we wish you and your community the very best. mike: the first republic a debate taking place, we will discuss the latest on campaign 2024, let's bring in the political panel, the immigrant first policy institute chief communications director and firehouse strategy vice president katie mccutcheon, welcome to both of you. >> thank you. you may have heard a big debate coming up this week, your expectation as we look ahead of it. >> this is one of the few chances that these candidates will have to make the case to the making people pomegranate they are back in the pack donald trump is up by 40 plus points, this is a one-person nomination. if you want to try to get any kind of momentum this is the only shot that you're going to have to do it. >> ambassador former governor nikki haley on "fox news sunday", let's play her. >> i think the media gets it wrong, they don't see the fact that families have been on vacation, kids have been out of
10:41 am
school and americans have not been paying attention once this debate happens this week is off to the races that's when you will start to see people really focus in on different candidates and look at what their options are, we feel really good going into the debate, i love debate and i'm looking forward to it. >> do you expect the race on the republican side to heat up after the debate. >> definitely i think we will get a sense of which candidates or republicans will be able to coalesce behind to take on donald trump in the primary, there getting an unprecedented debate without him there and i'm sure he'll be talked about in the little elephant in the room. i think it's a real shock to attack opponents that they feel are a risk to him without him being there, i think we'll have a better sense of. >> former arkansas governor eisha hudson says he's getting there will that the rnc make the final declaration but let's play him. >> yes i will be on the stage we met the pulling criteria and now we met the 40000 individual donor criteria, we submitted to the rnc 42000 individual donors,
10:42 am
i want to support the nominee of the party and i do not expected to be donald trump. mike: for those candidates lowering the polls, how critical is it for them to be on the stage. >> this is the only shot that they're going to have of getting momentum and i don't see that it's likely, i think obviously with the former president counter programming this on a different platform, a lot of eyes are going to be over there, they need this moment and i'm not sure, even if you catch the moment being back down 40 points and most of the pulling including new pulling today shows this is a one-person base. i think it's too late, too little and donald trump is could be the nominee enter nominee. mike: let's take a look at the fox poe, former president trump with 53% support a slight fluctuation from earlier but a massive lead, desantis at 16%, down from 22%, vivek ramaswamy
10:43 am
up, single digits mike pence, dickie haley, chris christie, how do you assess it at this stage. >> donald trump space is pretty solid, i believe he's going to be the nominee and i think that the movement in the polls especially with vivek ramaswamy having arises pulling from ron desantis not donald trump's loyal base. i think we seen over the past couple months with indictments, that is not changing his support in the polls it is bolstering, donald trump for years has said he is a victim and a martyr and with these indictments that is validating that narrative that he's been telling his face. if anything his support is more solid and there is very little wiggle room for anybody else. >> the fact that the desantis campaign to debate memo that they were going to target ramaswamy and not donald trump shows me that they're more worried about holding onto second place than anything else, ron desantis is in real jeopardy of becoming jeb bush 2.0.
10:44 am
>> let's take of the number for second choice gop nominee among primary voters, desantis dropped from 52 - 37. ramaswamy from 0 to 22% in mike pence from 16 - 11%. so what about those numbers. >> it is all vivek ramaswamy he is only one with any kind of positive momentum besides donald trump. you see to katie's point, all these other candidates are pulling support from ron desantis not from the front runner. whether it's vivek ramaswamy who has skyrocketed, still way way and second-place, he is only one with positive momentum and everyone else is dropping like a rock. mike: does that mean ramaswamy is going to happen, that to be stage. >> keisha, that would be the expectation but that's his first debate ever. he's good to be the target of a lot of attacks coming from both sides on the stage from all the other candidates and i would like to point out he is pulling
10:45 am
probably younger moderate republicans from ron desantis i don't want a boat from donald trump but their learning more about ron desantis and his policies are little bit too extreme for him and he is becoming more curious, vivek ramaswamy is. as people learn more, his policy position is going to be tested on the debate stage, they have been tested on nash international media saying i want to raise the voting age to 25, i don't think that's going to go so well with younger movement between ron desantis and vivek ramaswamy it'll be interesting. mike: on the democratic side has biden made the economy better or worse, 25% better, 52% worse, 22% no difference, what about that. >> that is issue number won this is a horrible pull number for joe biden and when you say 80% of the overall electorate's approve of his handling of the economy which is why we have got to get back talking about the economy every day were not talking about people gas prices,
10:46 am
grocery prices is a day that were losing to joe biden that's why they want the focus to be on trump's legal issues and not about the economy because they cannot defend the disaster that they have created for american pocketbooks. mike: do those numbers make the president brattleboro. >> i don't think so, a testament is democrats and joe biden are going out and i have been and will continue to campaign on all of his accomplishments they're going to ground breaking facility openings, infrastructure projects across the country drawing direct lines and telling people and educating people that this is a result of the infrastructure, the chips bill, the ira and they're not afraid to do that. i think there is more education that needs to be done with voters and seeing these positive improvement in his taking credit. a perfect point to make. i think there is positive things and positive trajectory but republicans are taking credit for funding that they did not vote for. >> inc. is a much. mike: maui residents coming to
