so, we heard michael horowitz the other day in a letter that you folks made public saying that well, i don't know how much i can investigate this hunter biden business at the doj and allegations of a cover-up there because really it falls to the office of professional responsibility at the doj. what do you make of that, and what do you want to see horowitz do? >> you know, john, we are deeply concerned about how this administration has been snowballing whether it's the i.g., whether it's congress, whether it was the irs whistleblowers that came forward throughout their five years in the investigations, it's a pattern that we are seeing over and over. that's why just this week myself, jim and jamie, sent a letter asking exactly how their investigation has been stalled. we need to know exactly what they find out in regards to how the department of justice blocked the prosecution of the

president's son and also the retaliation of the whistleblowers that had on them since they came forward. >> john: a lot of what we heard from the whistleblowers and that forum 1023 as well were allegations that there was a potential pay for play at work here with joe biden and it surrounded a guy named viktor shokin, the former national prosecutor in ukraine. brian kilmeade had an interview with shokin which will air tomorrow night. a part of what he said regarding potential corruption and bribes surrounding the former vice president. listen here. >> i did not want to deal in unproven facts but my personal conviction is that yes, this was the case, they were being bribed. the fact that joe biden gave away $1 billion in u.s. money in exchange for my dismissal, my firing. isn't that alone a case of

corruption? >> john: and just to remind folks at home, shokin was the national prosecutor who biden got fired saying they would withhold $1 billion in u.s. aid if he was not taken out. the white house says this about this -- the white house says this about shokin. fox is giving a platform for these lies to a former ukrainian prosecutor general whose office's own deputy called a hot bed of corruption, drawing demands for reform from not only then vice president biden but u.s. diplomats, and republican senators like ron johnson. do you think shokin is credible? >> john, let's just look at this. we have on public regard the president of the united states speaking live saying that he will withhold $1 billion unless they get rid of that prosecutor and that prosecutor was investigating the corruption in burisma, which the president's son was paid more than

$2 million to serve on the board. it doesn't smell right. so you tell me. do you trust the bidens and the fact that the president and the vice president at that time withholding $1 billion to ukraine unless they fired the prosecutor that was investigating the corruption of burisma, which his son was on the board being paid millions of dollars. >> john: interesting article in "the new york post" quoting former obama administration officials saying they appeared to be at least quite happy with shokin. i want to ask you about something else that congressman comer, chair of the oversight committee is pushing for here, and this is this alleged email alias that then vice president joe biden had under the name robert l. peters. here is a staffer, john flynn, writing to robert l. peters and hunter biden, saying boss, this was may 26, 2016, boss, 8:45 a.m., prep for 9:00 a.m. phone call with president

biden administration is targeting the lowly ceiling fan. the latest green push aims to improve efficiency standards of the household staple, and democrats say it will save people money in the long-term. critics are skeptical. fox business's hillary vaughn is on capitol hill with more. the list of issues americans are worried about and try to figure out where ceiling fans fit in. >> yeah, john, most people who turn on the ceiling fan are just trying to cool off, but the biden administration thinks that your ceiling fan could actually be part of the problem heating up the planet. so there's a new rule proposed by the department of energy that would make ceiling fans more efficient so they are more climate friendly. the department of energy saying this, the proposed standards for ceiling fans are projected to yield significant environmental benefits in the form of reduced emissions of air pollutants and greenhouse gases. the department of energy says it

would save households $39 over the life-span of the energy efficient fans but the cost to manufacturers industry wide, $86 million per year in increased equipment cost. the founder and ceo of super duty fans made in texas tells me that extra cost will have to be passed down to the consumer. >> i want to just grow my fan business and take care of my employees and provide a fan that's more affordable and more efficient and able to be purchased by companies to give their employees some comfort. i don't want to be dealing with the department of energy. the government proposals are actually going to cost the consumer more money and hurt the blue collar worker more than anybody else. >> republicans on the house small business committee worried about this, they wrote a letter to energy secretary jennifer granholm worrying this rule could put from 10 to 30% of small businesses that

recommendations you read, one drink a day per woman, two drinks for men, are about to go for review, and -- >> sandra: wait, wait, two a day, just one for women, so the new recommendation. >> two a day for men, one for women, the recommendation since the 90s. that is up for review and dr. coop just gave an interview and said that if they change the recommendations at all, they'll go in the same direction as canada, recommends two per week. so, i was interested to see how people were reacting to this. the answer is not good. so, one person said that's because the average american can only afford two beers a week in biden's economy, shots fired, and then another person said probably just another attempt at control, remember the advice we received on masks. so, i think most people are going to make up their own hopefully responsible minds when it comes to drinking no matter what the federal government says. >> sandra: amen. breaking news, an alcohol czar.

>> he has a more official title, but that's the shortened title. >> sandra: there are many doctors who have suggested studies on red wine and health benefits, and some doctors say if you are an anxious or stressed person perhaps the glass of wine may outweigh the risks of being anxious, and calms you down, it could be good. the czar has this to say, if there's health benefits, i think people will start to reevaluate where we are at in the u.s., so if alcohol consumption guidelines go in any direction, it would be toward canada. so, it seems they are going in the direction of ok, well, risk involved in any drop of alcohol, let's just say nothing at all. >> like the government control element of this, people don't like. and the study front, one day you read a study that says that one glass of red wine is great for your heart, the next read one

any alcohol increases the risk of cancer, so no one is taking health advice but i say moderation. >> sandra: and everybody has to make the decision what's best for them. and also this, marijuana use in the country seems to be on the rise to the point now, we have the line chart showing marijuana use since 1969, all time highs, and the point more than half of americans have at some point tried marijuana. majority of the population. what is all this telling us? >> even more than the 60s and the 70s, which is crazy. there is an interesting washington post op-ed, the united states went from a total ban on recreational marijuana to being legal in 23 states and washington, d.c., why it's on the rise. however, there are no national safety standards because it's not legal on a federal level. so what's happening is apparently all these more potent variations coming out and it's affecting people, some people

are even getting addicted, people have been hospitalized, especially kids that try marijuana because it's so strong now. so, one suggestion has been to legalize it federally and then the fda can step in and put potency caps on marijuana. however, the down side to that is it's legal here in new york, and you walk down the street and you are going to smell somebody smoking, like where is waldo, who is doing it and find some young professional, which i don't know, call me prude or lame but i still think it's kind of weird to see somebody smoking weed openly. they are not doing anything wrong. >> sandra: not in a piece of paper anymore, but the devices. >> like vape pens, whatever. we can pretend. >> sandra: carley, this was -- >> i like the vice segment, thought it was fun. a great friday segment. >> sandra: great to see you, and take care of that special new baby you have at home. >> thank you so much. >> john: a legal battle is heating up in missouri over gender changing surgery and

>> sandra: it is a controversy gripping the country, should states block children from getting gender changing surgeries or hormones. a judge in missouri could decide at any moment. a whistleblower who helped shed light on the issue is getting vindication after attacks from the media and some on the left. she claims a st. louis hospital is handing out hormone pills like candy to teenagers and

younger children, and "new york times" has confirmed some of that. bethany mandel has reaction. but first, garrett tenny is live on the ground in chicago. what else are we learning about the whistleblower's claims? >> sandra, "new york times" obtained hundreds of documents from the whistleblower which corroborated some of her allegations, that the washington children's hospital prescribed it before first offering mental health support. and that happened despite red flags in children's medical history such as severe psychiatric issues. in one email the head of the clinic reportedly acknowledged the treatment protocols may be harming some of the young people who come in and another email, one nurse turned down a management role at the clinic due to ethical dilemmas how it operated. missouri's attorney general has an ongoing investigation into the hospital. >> so the specific allegations

she made were that 75% of the kids that came into the clinic with gender dysphoria claimed to have learned about it from tiktok. even 1/10 of what the whistleblower has said, it's nothing short of child abuse. >> the hospital maintains an internal review found the staff treated patients according to the existing standard of care. civil rights groups and activists are challenging a new state law taking effect monday that bans gender affirming treatments for minors. >> transgender children will die if this law goes into effect. if they cannot get treatment to treat their gender dysphoria, children will die. >> there are several ongoing lawsuits to block the new law and as soon as today a judge could decide whether or not to put it on hold while the legal challenges play out. >> sandra: garrett, thank you. john. >> john: bethany mandel, co-author of "stolen youth." when jamie reed came out with

allegations earlier this year she was scorched by people on the left, including msnbc host chris hayes, tweeted this, conducted dozens and dozens of interviews with parents and patients and found no corroborations of the allegations in the first report. but now a terrific and well researched piece, the "new york times" says we've confirmed a lot of what she said, so what does this say about these attacks from the left against jamie reed? >> so i mean, she was really vindicated and so was the free press and what's funny, barry weiss had to leave the "new york times" because they were not doing their due diligence on stories like these so she started the free press and she's been vindicated by the "new york times," albeit five months later, but this is i think indicating the fact that the left has realized that the rubicon is starting to be

crossed and seeing the winds changing in europe and the world, whereas in europe and denmark, all across the world, there is a real sort of push to promote pru dense, it's not gender affirming care. >> and some of these so-called progressive european nations are saying we are moving way too fast on this, this has life-altering consequences which cannot be reversed, we need to take it slowly. you know, we have had on our program and she also testified in congress chloe cole detransitioning after she says she was pushed into the surgeries and treatments, and prisha as well, and an article says they had an outsize influence, they were representative cases and not the whole, but this says what they were saying is in fact true.

>> and not only true, its incredible bravery. they are outliers in the fact they are willing to speak up and put their faces and names out there and face the incredible backlash that comes from both transgender activists, but also just more generally on the left against anyone who dares deviate from the narrative. but they are representative, i believe, of a growing generation of kids who were medicalized and irreversible damaged by so-called treatments. it's not care. that is something that all the detransitioners are proving, this is not care. >> john: opponents of gender altering treatments talk of the social contagion sweeping across america. dr. laura edwards leaper opened up the first gender center in boston in 2007. she adhered to a very strict dutch protocol assessing a child

before going down the road, and in five years treated only 70 patients, and what she was written about in the "new york times" piece, nearly 15 years after bringing the dutch approach to america, the boston psychologist had grown alarmed by the rise in adolescents seeking gender treatments. in november 2021, washington post opinion piece warned that american gender clinics were prescribing hormones to some children who needed mental health support first. what's behind this? is it -- is it as she suggests, in her article, that these clinics are overwhelmed, and they don't have the personnel to deal with all this, or is it this idea of social contagion that if you've got gender dysphoria, the first thing we need to do is turn you into a different gender. >> yeah, absolutely. i think that a lot of the narrative about sort of this gender dysphoria immediately jumps to treatment, which comes in the form of surgery and hormones, puberty blockers, and

there is not that much in the way of informed consent when it comes to these things because we are using these kids as guinea pigs and something carol and i argued in "stolen youth," turning children into guinea pigs and not that much recognition that gender dysphoria is almost always in partnership with another comorbidity with other mental health conditions and so they have decided in order to treat any number of conditions, adhd, ocd, anything that children are facing instead they are just going to treat the gender dysphoria. the reality is it's actually exacerbating all of the other comorbidities that they face with their mental health prognosis. >> john: we'll see what happens with the missouri law. we will hear from the judge any moment now. >> sandra: more questions than answers after plane does down with wagner chief prigozhin reportedly on board, so did

was likely killed after a crash in russia, two months ago his fighters posed a challenge to vladimir putin during a brief rebellion. dan hoffman, former cia station chief and fox news contributor, we took an update from the pentagon yesterday and saying prigozhin likely died in the plane crash, they have not officially confirmed that but supposed this indeed happened. so, who is likely to be responsible for this? >> oh, i think there's no question that vladimir putin is responsible. and you know, he was publicly speaking yesterday about prigozhin's demise, that prigozhin had made serious mistakes and that's not very surprising that putin would speak that way, given putin had said prigozhin was a traitor during that failed mutiny that prigozhin launched over the summer a couple months ago. but this falls in line with vladimir putin's tactics, discoverable public
