the blame on the federal government. william joins us with more on all of this, and william, this is a bipartisan issue. barack obama brought it up in 2008, rick santorum in 2012, what's happened since? >> john, it's actually gotten worse. about 30% of u.s. children are raised by a single parent. compared with 7% worldwide, and experts will tell you not having a father in a child's life leads to multiple problems. right now, 40% of all u.s. babies are born out of wedlock. even higher among blacks and hispanics, 70 and 53%, and that is suggesting a breakdown in the conventional nuclear family. >> education starts with the family, and the nuclear family is the greatest form of governance known to mankind. >> so when children are raised without a father, studies show they are more likely to grow up in poverty, become pregnant as a teen, abuse alcohol or drugs, drop out of school, even go to

the information and making sure it gets down to the county level. i'll let shane say how he does that in columbia county. listen to your local emergency management official as we move into the next few hours. as soon as the disaster has passed, again, all of the state's resources and all the state emergency response team, 30 plus agencies, plus all the mutual aid from all over the united states will be ready and quickly responding to it to include even in the overnight hours. so, please stay safe, please heed the evacuation warnings thank you governor for all you do for us. >> thanks, shane. >> thank you, governor, everybody for being here today. i just want to reiterate what they were talking about. if you do have issues such as you're a special needs patient, call in the citizens information number is open and active, opened at noon.

michael and hurricane ian, storms can be unpredictable, can change at the last minute. you can't run from water, it's too dangerous. there's no structure that can survive the type of surge a storm like this can put out. so, that life-threatening surge is something i really want to heed on, and listen to the evacuation orders by your local officials. as we get into the recovery, you are going to have predators that are going to prestage outside those affected areas, and i'm telling you, mark hunter and folks do an amazing job of keeping you safe. but these folks approach at your doorstep and will offer to remove trees off your house, provide you services before the storm and after the storm. i'm going to let you know. if you feel comfortable giving a total stranger cash at your doorstep, you might as well set it on fire. you are not going to be able to get any restitution with those types of transactions.

people that come out immediately after the storm, a lot of times are not the best intentions. they are going to seize that opportunity to take advantage of. whatever you do, do not sign anything. you are going to have folks that will want to provide services to you, and just say sign this document. you may be signing a contract and now obligating you to services where they are going to charge you whatever they want. so, understand signing something immediately after the storm you need to get your facts straight, know what your rights are. if you have damage -- >> sandra: really important update from the officials in florida, and governor ron desantis telling people to prepare, now is the time, the path is directly heading for the west coast of florida. a lot of folks in the path's way. you heard from the white house, make the decision over what you are going to do now so you don't get stuck in this. the storm surge, though, john, that is the big warning right now. warnings it could be 15 feet in places, that could be deadly, and that is the warning a lot of

briefing to start any moment now, $250 million weapons package to ukraine as americans are divided over the funding of that war. we'll keep an eye on all of that for you. but first, breaking news from our southern border. >> john: federal authorities are investigating a group of foreign nationals who crossed the border with help from an isis-linked human smuggler. points to new intelligence that found a group of nationals relied on assistance from a human trafficker linked to a foreign terrorist organization. the u.s. then immediately took steps to "successfully" disrupt it. >> gillian: we are just learning, john, now about these major concerns among top national security officials here at the white house that the group of migrants allowed into the country by dhs may have ties to isis and may have been

smuggled into the united states, brought here by a terrorist operative. the national security council tells fox news this in a statement in part, reporting by the u.s. intelligence community revealed that one overseas member of the smuggling network had a connection to a foreign terrorist organization. top biden national security officials became aware of the threat once the fbi uncovered a human smuggling network backed by isis that was transporting uzback nationals across the southern border. they realized after the fact after a dozen had been granted entry into the u.s. without raising any red flags. officials then immediately scrambled to identify and assess the 12 people at large inside the u.s. as of now, remains no indication the individuals have a connection to a foreign
11:09 am
terrorist organization or are engaged in plotting a terrorist attack in the u.s. this all comes as the administration faces increasing scrutiny over its border policies and republican calls to impeach dhs secretary mayorkas. >> i believe the house should impeach alejandro mayorkas, for opening up the borders and creating humanitarian disaster in our history. >> gillian: republican sources tell me they remain deeply concerned about terrorist groups exploiting weaknesses at the southern border. and peter just had a chance to ask karine jean-pierre before i came on the air about this. you'll play it back later, i'm sure. to paraphrase her, said the administration considers this whole operation a huge success because they were able to intervene with the smuggling group but again, that was only after these people had already

come inside the united states. john. >> john: well, why wait any longer. we have that exchange prepared, gillian, and here it is, between peter doocy and karine jean-pierre. >> how is it possible that isis sympathizer is sneaking people into this country? >> i'm assuming you are speaking to the cnn story, right? ok, want to make sure that folks are watching understand the question. so i want to be really clear here. so the intelligence alerted us to a human smuggling network. we moved fast and successfully to disrupt it. >> john: successfully disrupt it. but as gillian pointed out, after those people had already come into the united states. this was not prevented ahead of time. >> sandra: it's a serious question and something that should continue to be asked. we have seen that constant flow over the border. we don't know who's coming in,
11:11 am
john. >> john: one thing you can be sure of, if isis is behind it, it's not a good thing. >> sandra: no. any moment now president biden will take the podium on his plan to lower drug costs, for the economy for the middle class but that's not the truth for the reality for many american families. take it from his own vice president. >> most americans are a $400 unexpected expense away from bankruptcy. >> sandra: andy, former cke restaurant ceo and andy, that was a dead give away they are clearly seeing something in the economy most people are feeling, a lot of folks, andy, cannot meet an immediate emergency because they are dealing with the stifling inflation. you are writing about it. you say kamala harris's slip-up reveals bidenomics hurting american families and families are in deep trouble and far more
11:12 am
significant than any bidenomics spin can conceal. what is your message here, andy? >> look, first of all, give kamala harris a little credit for coming up with this counter narrative statement. she's at least admitting people are in very, very serious trouble. look, there are people out there right now who have to go to their credit cards, savings accounts, borrow money from somewhere, draw down on their 401(k) plans to cover a dental bill, a medical bill, unexpected car expense. we all experience those things regularly. and this is why we see savings dropping materially, we see people drawing down on the 401(k), 36% increase, according to bank of america second quarter and now have credit card debt over a trillion dollars. 51% of americans cannot pay the debt off at the end of the month and interest rates are double digits, somewhere between 15 and 22% on the credit cards. so, this is a real disaster for americans.
11:13 am
anybody that things bidenomics is working is living in a cave because it's clearly not. >> sandra: go to the grocery store, i mean, we say it -- the prices are not coming down and whenever you hear from this white house, dan, that these are inflation is coming down, it's not the case. it has slowed the growth of those prices going up has slide, and that we all can acknowledge is a good thing. but once those prices go up they rarely come down at the grocery store. eggs under this presidency are still up 23%. basic staples, milk up 14%, chicken prices up 23%. bacon, gas prices, just going to the grocery store, costing 40% more under this presidency and now you have voters who are saying we don't feel good about our financial situation. they will ask themselves that when they head to the ballot box. >> we talked about this on the show repeatedly and a point worth repeating over and over and over again. administration and economists think about the rate of change, inflation was 9%, now it's 3%,
11:14 am
the average person goes to the supermarket and sees that eggs that used to cost $2 now cost $3 and the fact they are not going up to $4 but only 3.25 is a problem for them even though the rate of change is roughly the same and explains a whole host of issues. why despite a low unemployment rate consumers are relatively unhappy. why, despite a relatively low rate, credit card delinquencies have gone up 6 or 7 consecutive quarters now. people falling under the weight of the higher prices that not going up at the same rate, not in any way coming down. >> sandra: interesting question in your piece, andy. you say raises a very disconcerting question. is this the new bidenomics normal? you then dug into the data, what did it reveal, andy? >> it reveals that the policies of this president have put the american consumer, the american people at a very disadvantageous position with respect to their finances.
11:15 am
you have, as you've just been talking about, inflation is cumulative, just because it's only up 3.2%, that means it's up 3.2%. it keeps increasing, almost like compound interest. it just keeps getting bigger and bigger and bigger, and the policies that they put in place are not addressing the problems americans are facing. they can't pay these bills. they can't bear these expenses. you are seeing incredible frustration in the economy. it shows up in the polling. just talk to anybody as you say at a grocery store, talk to somebody at a grocery store, convenience store, at the gas station. everybody is going to talk about how prices have gone up and they cannot afford to continue under these economic policies. we need change in 2024. this is the new normal, what will continue to happen with these economic policies. >> sandra: interesting analysis and observation, we'll have a woman on this program, she and her husband are veterans, bought their home on a v.a. loan, worries her now adult children
11:16 am
won't have the same opportunities they have, they are in their early 20s. one of them is living at home with them because he just can't make enough money or save enough money to buy his own home. so we'll look forward to talking to that small town voter on this program. dan, thank you. andy, thank you. >> john: the pentagon briefing now underway, we will keep an eye on that for any updates on that breaking story we just reported. isis-linked smuggler at the u.s. southern border and major new package for ukraine announced today. plus, there's this. >> he can't step away from the fact that look, he's the one that said he was going to abandon israel, those were his words. now he's wanting to walk it back. >> sandra: 2024 candidates nikki haley last hour on the program going after vivek ramaswamy again, this time slamming her competitor over his stance on israel. chris christie will join us with

11:22 am
>> john: that was 2024 candidates nikki haley speaking to us last hour and knocking fellow republican rival vivek ramaswamy on his position on israel. he has taken a lot of criticism regarding foreign policy plans in general, including last night on "hannity." chris christie, 2024 presidential candidate and former governor of my former home, the garden state of new jersey. appreciate it. >> good to see you, john. thank you. >> john: a little bit about what vivek ramaswamy said, we played it out last hour, he said on israel, what i said is it would be a mark of success if we ever got to a point in our relationship with israel if israel never needed the united states aid, he says by the end of my first term our relationship will be stronger than it ever has been because i will treat it as a true friendship, not just a transactional relationship. took a lot of heat from you, from governor christie, former

vice president mike pence at the debate over his foreign policy. what do you say what he said about regarding israel? >> look, it's the latest thing he said about israel. what he does, john, he says something, he gets roundly criticized and practically laughed at over some of the stuff he said and then he says i didn't say that. i meant this. this is not the kind of person you want sitting behind the desk in the oval office, whether it's on this issue, whether it's on handing taiwan over to the chinese in 2028, or whether it's his complete abandonment of ukraine and security in eastern europe. these are all things that i guess harvard guys talk about in the salons up in cambridge, but they really have nothing to do with what america needs to do as a leader to protect our values all around the world. >> john: he also said he would end the policy of strategic
11:24 am
ambiguity when it comes to taiwan, president biden said the united states would be compelled to come to the defense of taiwan should china attack it, what is the policy of chris christie when it comes to taiwan? >> taiwan, the foreign policy starts in ukraine, we send a very clear message to our unlimited support of the ukrainian effort to defeat the russians. and sends a clear message to china we are not going to cut and run, not do what joe biden did in afghanistan, not abandon our friends and leave them on the battlefield. it will send a clear message to china. if they try to make aggressive moves to taiwan, need to understand we are taiwan's friend and will protect them from aggressive military action by china. and there's nothing ambiguous about vivek's position on this.
11:25 am
he is going to give taiwan to the chinese in 2028. so, he's right. he's getting rid of ambiguity, but it's to give taiwan away to the chinese. that's not what i want to do, not what is right for america or the rest of the world. >> john: as president, would you be prepared to go to war with china over taiwan? >> i would be prepared to do whatever we needed to do to stop the chinese from taking over taiwan. it is not in america's national security interest to have china do that. and we need to make sure we make it very clear through the actions we take beforehand. look, we have seen this in ukraine, john. weakness shown by barack obama in 2024, ambiguous moves by the trump administration during their time in office and joe biden's awful withdrawal from afghanistan, led to giving the green light to vladimir putin to invade ukraine. we cannot have that same type of
11:26 am
american policy towards taiwan. there needs to be a clear signal sent through the way we support ukraine and through the way we say we will support taiwan and do it with credibility. we need a president who has experience, who understands how to deliver results. that's what i've done. and what i would do as president on this issue. >> john: i want to ask you about former president trump's court date set for march 4th on the 2020 campaign issue. the judge, an obama appointee, said we are going to the courtroom on the 4th of march a day before super tuesday. supporters of former president trump are looking at this saying that timeline seems to clearly be designed to interfere with the primary process. what do you say? >> what interferes with the primary process is donald trump's conduct, and his insistence on continuing to run for president of the united states despite the fact he's indicted in four different jurisdictions and he's out on bail in four different jurisdictions in this country.
11:27 am
whether you believe the charges are just or not, they are here. and what it's going to do is put the republican party in an awful position. donald trump is going to court on march 4th, he'll be on trial for anywhere from 6 to 8 weeks and you know, john, i did this for seven years, i'm not just in a theory, i was the leader of the fifth largest u.s. attorney's office in this country for seven years. he's going to go to trial on march 4th, abbe there every day for 6 to 8 weeks instead of taking the case to joe biden and the democrats. donald trump has never beaten the democratic incumbent. i defeated jon corzine in one of the blueest states of the country, and getting outspent 33 million to 11 million, we won. that's the economy we need. we can't have joe biden and kamala harris for another four years. donald trump has to stop putting himself in front of our party, and in front of the people of
11:28 am
this country, and his trial and -- is going to lead to republicans losing all across the country. >> john: well, i mean, he is still the front-runner by a long shot, he dropped a little after the first debate but still has a leg up on everybody else. we'll see how this continues to go, we look forward to seeing you at the next debate as well. governor, thanks for joining us today. appreciate it. >> john, just remember something. it's early, it's early, and if people want to see truth be told go to chris christie.com and donate. that's what i want them to do. >> john: a lot can change between now and january. governor, thank you so much. appreciate it. >> thank you, john. >> sandra: we want to alert in here, we are keeping a close eye on hurricane idalia, as it is getting stronger and moving closer and closer to florida's coast at this hour. set to make landfall in less than 24 hours and we are live in tallahassee with the very latest. >> john: and a judge ruling against the kappa kappa gamma sisters who sued over a

eoc, we have representatives from state departments as well as partners here working together to help florida prepare for this time. now, i want to point out most recently, desantis did update his emergency declaration including three more counties, so now it's going from 46 to 49 counties as idalia is expected to make landfall along florida's big bend region as a category 3 storm. desantis noted if it hits during wednesday morning's high tide cycle, places could get 8 to 12 feet in storm surge, and anyone staying is putting their lives in jeopardy. desantis just spoke in lake city, florida on this incoming danger. >> the storm surge is not something, you are not going to win that battle if you decide to stay, you stay behind for that. you run away from the water, and then you hide from the wind. you still have time to do that if you are in this big bend area, but time is running out very, very rapidly.
