still without power across the state at about half of the county is without power as well still. >> and katy in live oak thank you. anita: rich, let's bring in florida congressman mike for more on this but his district is a bit southeast of live oak. he serves on the house armed services foreign affairs and intelligence committees. he is also a former green beret. congressman thanks much for spending time with us today. i want to ask you first of all what do we expect from this visit by the president we know is not going to be touring with governor desantis. what you think that's all about? it sounds like there was some confusion there behind the scenes. >> i do not want to speculate athe governor has his security from the florida department of law enforcement. of course anytime the president moves has a big footprint with the secret service, air force one and everything that comes with him.

at the end of the day what is important is to make sure people are getting taken care of. i don't know that everyone realizes, we do going to the savior in florida there is a huge federal aspect of this. the u.s. department of transportation, there is hud, the area in the big band has a huge agricultural footprint. agriculture is the second largest part of our economy in florida behind tourism. a lot of farms a lot of branches. the department of agriculture will have to step in there. the army corps of engineers in terms of any shoreline at damage, restoration, dikes that were breached. it's in all of government both federal and state efforts to recover from these big storms pay to have the president making sure that us all working together. his team making sure it's all working together. we had the go button every

single year perimeter of the governors team is all over it. anita: no doubt there certainly are a lot of moving parts behind the scenes when something like this happens, no doubt. we note right now the president is taking an aerial tour. there certainly is widespread destruction as you might expect from a category three hurricane. thankfully the death toll was low. what are you hoping the president will do when he gets on the ground and meets with people? what are you hoping the prespresident will be able to do there? >> the good news is the people of cedar key and the big event are feeling this right now. it's the most's popular part of the state in terms of a property and individual damage. i think with these people are going to want to hear is that there all types of reimbursements and types of

assistance. their individual assistance. there's a property assistance. there's assistance for small businesses that may have been damaged or shut down. and the federal government is not going to be bureaucratic and slow in getting it out. that does not always happen. there hurricanes from years ago the local municipalities do not have big budgets particularly for debris removal to get the roads clear. and the power lines clear. they do not have big budgets and then they send that up the chain so to speak. they will need quick reimbursement for that's what they will want to hear from the president that his team will be on top of it. >> most certainly they will want to hear that. he had what might be best described as an awkward visit and now a part some criticizing the president for what seemed like a lack of empathy or sympathy for people who had lost their homes but lost their loved ones. dealing with horrific grief. the president was criticized for

his lack of ability to connect and consult people. what do you expect to see or hear from him this time in this regard? >> this is just after the two-year anniversary of the withdrawal from kabul. i was with those gold star families last week. president biden ran on being competent, being compassionate. we certainly did not see that the afghanistan withdrawal but we did not see that with maui. the fact they are coming down so quickly while recovery were really in the throes of recovery seems to me his team and communications team and optics learned their lesson. i am speculating, probably a smart speculation that's why they're rushing them down because of the criticism of maui. if you can see on your screen we have marine one lande landing rt now at the gainesville airport.

the gainesville regional airport part he is just coming back from the aerial tour of the damage. one thing to see this kind of damage after a storm or some kind of catastrophe but it's nothing to see it on tv and you know so well it is completely different experience to see it in person. what do you expect to hear the president say i'm talking about what he is witness firsthand. >> i certainly hope he talks about kitchen table issues and things that are going to directly affect their lives apseparate in terms of getting their businesses open getting a roads cleared, electricity turned on and all of those reimbursements for the state locals i talked about. and i for one as a veteran always, always appreciate national guardsmen and women. our coast guard men and women and our first responders. their homes take damage for their families are out there to

rather than being home taking care of their property there helping everybody else. i certainly hope he is loud and proud in taking care of our military. which right now is in the throes of the crisis for the florida national guard in particular does overseas deployments. and every year fully activated for the storms. those of the things i hope to hear from him but hope to hear some leadership some real compassion. we have not seen up-to-date. anita: marine one just landing now and live oak by mistake by the gainesville before he took off from there. now he is in live oak. he is he's getting off of the helicopter. and going to see some of the damage there and live oak where it is hardest hit. a quick question to you about his praise of how governor ron desantis has handled this tragedy so far.

partners, with doe go over and check our sound meters and say it's perfectly fine. we'll go about our business. and they can enjoy their night. >> drones were used about 80 times or public safety or emergencies through june of this year. each time requiring the chiefs approval. for example the city has been using drones to monitor shark activity at its beaches. the drones were also used back in early august when chaos broke out during a social media influencers and giveaway event in the city. but some privacy advocates of question whether the drone use violates the city's laws on police surveillance. a report released this summer from the american civil liberties union found more than 1400 police departments across the country already use these types of drones. a new york-based and tight surveillance nonprofit is calling on lawmakers to take action against this type of drone use. >> this is something ripe for

being tough on china. i don't think biden is going to do that. he's kind of caught in a dilemma now. >> it sure seems that way for just quickly, all of this these meetings were supposed to set the stage for president biden to have it meeting with xi jinping possibly on the u.s. soil in sn francisco later this year in november. tyou expect that to happen? >> i doubt it. our president was just establish they're supposed to be a g20 meetings coming up soon in new delhi, india because of the border friction on some tough policies in a deli, and yet xi jinping has announced he's not going to the meeting. in other words he's holding hostage the biden ministration you are nice to me and make concessions i will meet you in san francisco and make you look good. unless i won't make you look bad. chinese are pretty smart i think. >> we will not hold our breath on that meeting in november but we'll see what happens. michael pillsbury thanks so much for insight today pretty great to see you. ]

disaster. bringing in badly needed federal dollars to help on the ground. one of the members of the community thanks to the president for shining a light on their neighborhood. on their region or they were so badly hit. they said we took a hard hit but thank you so much for coming and shining the light. and bringing your wife. easy to appreciate that. members of the community given the president and update on how they are doing in the wake of the storm. the president earlier day had an aerial view he went been marine at one and took an aerial view of the damage. thankfully the storm left behind a very low death tool. so far we know one person who has died. but the damage on the ground is catastrophic. thousands of homes and structures destroyed it. that is why they need those federal dollars. to come in and help with the recovery effort. it is a massive effort. rich, i know you've covered the

sinks before as well. >> we have heard from some of the reporting earlier their people need water for the people need supplies. people need power in that area. part of the reason that shot drop the video we have the live feed from that area and florida is because cell service is so weak in that area. it was in elementary school by the way we are looking at it's also being used as a red cross shelter for their cot in the hallways. the reporter on the scene traveling with the president said they pass a children and their parents and elderly people all in there. it's an area of the countries air the state that an fun help. the president touring it firsthd as you mentioned. federal assistance would come of the backend that is how fema works how it comes in. there's a big fight in congress how to put more money into fema as the fema administrator has warned they are running out of money there. also mentioned senator rick scott is there. and all of these meetings continue, and eat it.
