they have the situation on lock. >> the president is certainly going to test on a regular cadence determined by his physician. all travelers including the president will test before traveling to india. masking, testing and monitoring for symptoms. he has no symptoms. so we're going to continue to follow those guidelines. >> harris: well, if he does get to travel to the g20 he will have to deal with this reality. our enemies are busy. china does what it wants. china's president xi reportedly will skip the summit. u.s. and china relations are spiraling. arms negotiations between russia and north korea are quote, actively advancing and causing major concerns for ukraine. and we're told to expect biden to again try to rally the world around ukraine while he is abroad. in "focus", 2024 republican presidential candidate vivek ramaswamy. we'll get into foreign policy and more when he joins me.

we begin with jacque heinrich at the white house. jacque, covid watch. >> you know, china has its own simmering tensions with india, hosting the g-20. xi's skipping the summit is seen as a snub to president biden as the administrations sent officials to beijing to refrost the relationship getting iceier. in the last receiveall months, blinken and janet yellen and commerce secretary all went to beijing and now china's top security agency is hinting that any meeting between biden and xi at november's apec summit in san francisco will depend on the u.s. showing sufficient sincerity. meantime the u.s. is also trying to manage an escalating risk of an arms deal between north korea and russia releasing declassified intelligence about

8:05 am
u.s. weakness on the global stage. the fact we aren't energy independent is why putin had the courage to go after ukraine and dependent on china for our modern way of life is why we didn't have the courage to shoot down the chinese spy balloon flying over the united states. it sends a signals to our adversaries abroad. one of the things that i'm focused on as the next u.s. president if elected is pulling apart a that russia, china alliance. deterring china from going after taiwan while avoiding world war iii. i am the only candidate who offered clarity. >> harris: i want to go deeper than that because you've taken some criticism for your lack of knowledge, at least according to nikki haley and other rivals and other republicans. i want to know what exactly would you do to decouple
8:06 am
countries like china and russia and north korea? how do you split them up? >> absolutely. don't mistake my lack of holding political office for lack of knowledge in this area. i understand this deeply. the one thing i would do is use the end of the ukraine war as an opportunity to negotiate a deal that requires russia to exit its military partnership with china because the russia/china alliance is the single greatest threat we face. russia's nuclear capabilities, china's naval capability. we depend on china is a risk to the u.s. the first thing i would do. second thing is strengthen our alliances with nations like india that could close the sea where china gets oil supplies in a conflict. strengthen alliances with japan and south korea to reduce our economic dependence on china and to be crystal clear, something that no other presidential candidate has actually been able to say, that we will defend taiwan with clarity.
8:07 am
right now the u.s. adopted the one china policy. no, we will defend taiwan until at least until we have achieved semi conductor independence in the u.s. at which point we resume strategic ambiguity. the current posture. clarity will be our friend. >> harris: when the ukraine war ends. nobody has a date certain on that. do you think we need to fight to get that to happen? >> i view it the other way. clarity through diplomacy can lead us to the end of the war. the deal i would do i have been clear about this. ukraine would come out with its sovereignty intact which is far from certain on the track they're going today. i would tell vladimir putin look, in a good deal everybody gets something. we would make a permanent commitment that nato will not admit ukraine to nato and also freeze the current lines of control. but the bigger win for the united states and for the free world as we know it is pulling apart the russia/china alliance

8:10 am

against masking in school citing three cdc studies whether masking in students reduces covid. the studies that schools with mask mandates have lower cov covid-19 transmission is not justified by the data they've gathered. so no, science doesn't show it. >> the masks do not work, why would you force a child to put a mask on their face all day long? this amounts to child abuse. you and i have talked about this before. when you have young kids that are masked all day long sitting there with germs covering their face, stuck to their face. beyond that we know it inhibits their ability to speak and learn to speak and ability to socialize with others. just the beginning of bringing it back. they want to bring it back on the group of people, young people that actually don't have a lot of risk for covid. they would be better to be out playing with each other, exercising, eating well.
8:52 am
that's the narrative that should be pushed here not mask mandates putting toddlers and young kids back in masks so they cannot interact with one another. we cannot do this again. i hope senator vance pushes this forward. we can't have masking and force the democrats to take a side on this issue. >> harris: it is all about mental health, too. why don't they listen to their surgeon general. mental illness and loneliness are off the charts. teenagers in particular. high school football coach joe kennedy is bringing faith back on the field for the first time since 2015 he is coaching. it comes after a years' long legal battle, eight years, in fact. the school fired him for praying on the field after games. last year the u.s. supreme court ruled he has the right to play. kennedy shared his feelings with fox. >> i want people to stand up together and understand that we are all the same.
8:53 am
there is no special right for a certain class or a certain group. everybody is the same. the constitution applies to everybody across the board. i hope this inspires people to be able to stand up and join together and find something to be proud of and fight for something worthwhile. >> harris: amen. earlier this year coach kennedy joined "the faulkner focus" to reflect on the fight. >> it all start evidence when the school district launched an investigation on a compliment they received from another school district. this is crazy. one minute i'm on the football field helping young men and coaching football and the next minute i'm sitting here with you. it is kind of wild. >> harris: now the next minute he is back on the field. tomi. >> harris, this is such an important point that he just made when he spoke to you earlier. he said influencing young men. we have a problem with young men
8:54 am
in this country and the way that they are being influenced as we know. a big problem with fatherlessness and popular culture pushing filth and all these horrible things on young people, especially young men looking for guidance. then you have someone like a coach kennedy who was praying by himself on the 50 -yard line after games and inspired other young men to join him not because he forced them or made him do such but because they were insired by him. christians need to take a page out of his book and stand for the beliefs and faith and the first amendment. he won this not only for himself but for so many christians who for too long have cowered in the corner and embarrassed of their faith. i hope there are more coach kennedys out there to inspire young men and women to follow his lead. >> thank you. always good to see you. next time. please tune in tomorrow for my
