we did not yet know if he was actually hit and wounded. we are looking as the braking bk information comes in. let's get to jackie ibanez. she is life in the newsroom with more on this. jackie, what do we know. >> reporter: a source with state police tells fox news danelo cavalcante was shot by a homeowner in east nashville pennsylvania while stealing a rifle. where told that he made it out with a gun and troopers were calling in additional resources to pursue him within their new perimeter. the man now stretching into two -- manhattan now stretching into to do? is there's no defined search area. they are simply working on any information or tips that they have received right now they do have that new search area since he was shot and ran away with some type of gun. will in today from state police he tried to arrange a meeting -- meetings with two acquaintances who were not home at the time of the weekend. one of their doorbell cameras captured cavalcante appearing clean-shaven and wearing a

hoodie. police were if anyone is helping him with this great escape, they will be prosecuted. they are urging residents again to lock the buildings and vehicles after the escapee stole a van that had keys in it. later amended that vehicle. officials believe cavalcante is still in pennsylvania as we know according to police. he has friends and family nearby including his sister who is also in the u.s. illegally. she is being detained tonight for deportation proceedings after failing to cooperate with investigators. >> i don't believe he has the resources to get out of pennsylvania and again, other pieces of information that we have generated within this investigation lead me to believe that he is still here. >> reporter: the reward for information leading to cavalcante's capture is up to -- pennsylvania state police say their manhunt is focused on northern chester county where that stolen man was recovered --

van was recovered. trace? >> trace: jackie ibanez, thank you. let's bring in special agent nicole parker. no-call, the story is changing now every second. it appears that he went into a homeowner's area and he was shot or shot at. we don't know if -- the homeowner believe that he was hit and he has the rifle and he is back on the run. where do you take this? >> this is not good. obviously, this is law enforcement. they were hoping that this did not occur. everyone has continually asked in these press conferences, do you know if he has a weapon? based on this new intelligence, he has a rifle. this is extremely dangerous. those in the community need to be extremely vigilant and aware. lock your doors on your home, on their cars, your windows, your shares, anything needs to be locked. if you see this individual, do not approach the individual, do not approach cavalcante. you call 911 immediately.

with him having a weapon, this is a very brazen individual. he has killed someone in brazil. he has killed, stabbed a woman 38 times in front of her two young children to keep her quiet from telling law enforcement about the killing that he did in brazil. he has no limits. based on my experience working with fugitives on violent crime fugitive task force, for the fbi, i don't know that this is going to end well. this is extremely dangerous and people need to be vigilant and be aware and be safe. >> trace: what if he is wounded. >> you know, the thing that you know in law enforcement is when you are the bad guy, it is amazing that their adrenaline, they can keep going. you can be shot at multiple times and i have seen it. they just keep going. okay? so it depends on where they are fired at, where the wound is. but just because he is shot at does not mean it will necessarily slow him down. let's hope that he is injured enough that it stops him. it gives law enforcement time to catch on to him but he is desperate. the fact that he is willing to

let's bring in criminal defense attorney vik bajaj with more on this. vic, and the wall street journal, they write about oakland, quoting. if a white person using a gun during a crime or a boy game ever commit a robbery you might face an enhanced sentence based on that gun used or gang membership. if the defendant is back, however, he will be charged at the lowest possible level to avoid disparate racial impact. the goal is to protect black criminals but in doing so, you are ignoring black victims. >> that is right. it is somewhat unfair to -- and try to do a comparison. there's a myriad of facts in every offense that can go into that calculus on how they are charge. but one common factor is charging decisions by liberal district attorneys, you can charge an attempted murder for -- as an assault with a deadly weapon or what we recall a naked assault, not a strike. and that is purely a charging decision. now, for this district attorney, to take that record and say, well, i was doing great according to all the polls and

spirit identities. not sure what all those words even mean or if they apply to you. everyone is welcome and there will plenty of time to ask questions. can we not focus on reading and math before -- for 4-year-olds? >> it is frightening. this is against the district that has had queer all year. they could do a full hour on that. but as you alluded to, frighteningly, this is a district that has not performed well. elementary school proficiency in los angeles unified is 36% in math and 43% in reading and so perhaps this district would maybe be better served teaching kids abcs before they teach the lgbt's. term. thoughts on this, cory. >> it is a complete dumpster fire. they spent over $22,000 per student per year. maybe they should focus on the
