to target individual plants. they haven't said yet which plants would strike first but any sort of work stoppage would have an impact on the u.s. economy. a group studying what this could mean. they say at least $5 billion could be cost if the strike were to last at least 10 days, if not longer. the strikes would impact three of the u.s. automakers, ford, general motors and the parent company of stis ler. the uaw has list of demands. 40% increase in pay. shorter workweek and additional benefits. the automakers have offered increase in pay. but so far those offers have fallen short of the labor union's demands. >> we are preparing to strike these companies in a way they have never seen before. our message to the companies was clear. if we don't have a fair contract by midnight on thursday night, we will strike. >> for the white house, any possible strike could not come at a worse time. the president is already facing skepticism about his economic plans and any strike could also

hurt his re-election pitch to voters that he is a labor union president. a former uaw official telling politico uaw members feel abandoned by the democratic party. a segment of the party sees itsselves serving corporations rather than the common good. we have had a lot of disappointments. the former head of the uaw. the white house has been asked a lot about what is happening behind the scenes, what are they doing to ensure that if both sides stay at the negotiating table. they say they are hoping that there is going to be a compromise here, that a deal can be reached. but, at this point, they are still letting the players on both sides work it out amongst themselves. the president is going to be talking a lot about the economy today. a big speech in maryland focused on the economy. we will see if he brings up the strikes. about 16 hours away if it does end up having. back to you guys. >> brian: mark, is there is a sense that he should back off running on bidenomics, yet? >> the white house is certainly invested a lot of time and energy trying to focus on

trail, you ask the right question, brian. is he always talking about bidenomics. what does he say middle out and bottom up is the phrase? >> ainsley: trickle down? >> pete: is he against the middle stuff. it's not working. >> brian: if you look at inflation it grew at 2.7%. but, over all, since he took office, inflation is up 13%. so, everything that you buy, if you live paycheck to paycheck, which i think is 60% of the country, everything you buy is more expensive including gas. look at economic numbers. 47% of gas and consumer goods are up. 36% of housing or rent are up. 8% stock market up. 5% is your job situation. >> ainsley: this is the most worrisome economic and your family, most people gas and goods. then there is housing and rent costs. >> brian: jobs is good news for them. but, you know what is turning into bad news? how many jobs are open. rather than unemployment.

>> ainsley: i think people are worried about their jobs. if you read this article in the "new york post." there is the 62-year-old lady and she said she hasn't gotten a raise in three years. notice last three years i have stopped eating out. i struggled to get my rent paid i haven't bought new shoes or three years i like shoes. there is no guy young guy 33 years old rifs in brooklyn. i feel it in my dating life and he says i have to cut back on the girls. he said if i have got a date. i have got to do research on the place and see what food and bottles cost. you have to do your research because the bills don't stop and we don't have the luxury of disposable income. i was born and raised in new york and i love new york wall my heart. it's the best and worst place on earth. but i'm legitimately contemplating relocating to canada. >> pete: yeah, not just young people it's also baby boomers. and this is a headline caught our eye in the "wall street journal." why more baby boomers are sliding into homelessness.

like many drivers. this is a second career for me. i was a teacher for a long time. 30 years as a computer teacher and wanted to do something a little bit different from the time i was a little boy i wanted to drive truck. let's try this. >> how do you like it? >> i like it great. i'm part of what we call a short haul fleet here at cargo transporters. i'm home every night. for me this works well. kids are all grown but we have grandkids in the area that gives me a chance to come home every night and spend time with my wife and spend time with the grandkids and things like that that's interesting people think how do you live your family that long. there are opportunities you can on the road during the day? if i was to give anybody advice. do research. some offer that possibility. others have really great opportunities to be over the road if that's what the individual wants.

>> janice: good morning, everyone. we are tracking hurricane lee and we have a better idea of where the storm is going to make landfall this weekend. so category 2 is kind of interacting with colder water and maybe some wind shear, dry air. but we are expecting a hurricane on saturday making a landfall in eastern canada. but we are still going to feel the effects of this storm system, certainly along the coast of the northeast and new england. so people need to still pay attention because look at those outer rain bands moving into cape cod and the islands. even coastal massachusetts up towards maine. and then making a landfall as i mentioned either new brunswick or nova scotia and quickly moving to the northeast. this will be a quick mover. it will be a transitioning storm. almost like a nor'easter. but we still have tropical storm watches and hurricane watches posted for parts of maine in towards eastern canada. so keeping an eye on that. here is the latest heading north, accelerating the next few days, rough seas, rip currents along the east coast. and impacts likely for coastal new england and canada. so keeping an eye on that. there is the rest of the day's
