bold including a more than 40% wage increase over four years, pension benefits for all employees limiting the use of temporary workers and four-day work weeks. the auto makers have argued the demands are unrealistic considering the competition they're facing from tesla and foreign auto manufacturers. ford's ceo weighed in yesterday. >> there's no way they can meet them. that's why for the last two weeks we've been putting realistic offers that we can in the future. there's no way we can pay people $300,000 to work four day work weeks, we would have lost $15 billion and closed our plants the last few years. that's not a future. we're not doing a deal like that. >> reporter: united workers sean has defended the manned saying billions have been raked in off of his members' backs. >> let's talks about what good faith is. they've had our economic demands for six weeks. they waited until last week, we had to file unfair labor

so even though it's not going to potentially have direct impacts on the northeast coast, we're still going to feel, you know, the big waves, the potentially deadly rip currents and the beach erosion for in the next 24 hours. this is going to be a fast-moving storm, so that's the good news. 5:00 a.m. advisory, 85 mile per hour winds, but the storm is transitioning into more extra tropical, so kind of like a nor'easter. all right? so it's losing its tropical characteristics and becoming more of an extra tropical storm which means it's actually growing bigger. okay? so the effects will be widespread, 530 miles across, you know, theing toest core of winds around a hundred miles from the center of this storm system and we expect a land fall sometime on saturday as a strong tropical storm and excellent tropical storm, an event. the forecast track as of 5:00 a.m., again the center of

circulation offshore from the northeast but because this is such a huge storm system, we're going to feel those impacts. dangerous rip currents, high surf conditions and large waves of 5-15 feet. and we also are talking about a storm surge as far south as long island so tropical storm warnings, hurricane watches for eastern canada and flooding concerns and storm surge concerns with coastal flood advisories for long island up towards connecticut. so even though not a direct hit, we're going to feel those impacts. the good news is the storm its moving quickly so by sunday completely out of here. >> todd: we've been following this it feels like for two weeks, the day is finally here and to a certain extent we catch a break but still need to pay attention. >> carley: totally agree a huge storm. >> happy friday. >> carley: happy friday. to the other top story of the day hunter biden indicted on federal guven charges, we're going to break down the new accusations against hunter and how it impacts president biden.

prosecution on another gun charge but that deal fell through just one month later. still no word on which judge will preside over this case or when hunter will appear in in could. >> todd: thank you. let's bring in katie former federal prosecutor. katie republicans are saying thing like matt gaetz said, this is like charging jeffrey dahmer for littering then you have democrats up in arms over the charges. play lawyer for us if you would. where do you fall on that puck strum? >> well, there's so many different elements of this case. obviously the big outstanding question is, is there any information about all his financial dealing. i think that's what we've all been waiting for for 5.5 years here, david weiss was supposedly looking into it. but this particular charge deals only with the gun charges they were never indicteded because they were part of the diversion

agreement that fell apart, so it's unclear whether this is the final word in the ongoing investigation. it's unclear what will happen with these specific charges whether there will be another plea deal cut or they'll go on trial on it. there's so many pending factors it's really tough to say what will be the final outcome legally speaking for hunter, because there's so many different pieces out there that are not resolved at this point. >> todd: and one of those pieces is the diversion agreement, herb's still stands because it was signed by both parties. is that true? >> well, i can imagine that they would try to pursue that line of attack oak this. certainly that is something that, at this point his side can continue to argue, i don't think it's a very strong case, ultimately that diversion agreement was attacked by the judge on a couple different grounds. any sort of plea agreement has to be ultimately approved by the judge but hunter biden's team is saying because the proper signed

it because hunter's been compliant that somehow that makes it a binding agreement. i don't think the judge will agree with that but of course they have to shoot their shot. >> todd: this is an actual federal judge. i don't mean to be offensive that may be lower in the pecking order but the federal judge says i've they have seen anything like this, this somebody a thing, that is not a thing in the law. i understand what you said, there's still a lot of unknowns at this point, but on the gun charges themselves, obviously putting aside the tax, putting all the joe biden stuff, on the gun charges themselves, hunter faces 25 years in prison. do you think katie he serves one day behind bars? >> i would be very surprised. i mean, we have to remember joe biden still has pardon power here. i don't think he's going to exercise it at this point, i don't think that would be politically in his interest. but it would be surprising to see him spent any time behind bars although there could be a

nominal agreement reached just no an attempt to satisfy folks looking at this and hoping there's something more that comes down the pipeline but realistically speaking these charges are at the beginning of the process. they're still open to negotiation for other deals potentially or he may end up going to trial where the decision will be in the hands of a jury and judge. >> when it comes to david weiss you have to wonder why this is happening now. do you think he was embarrassed by judge noriega and this is a cleanup effort because she called out the plea sdmeel then you have vivek ramaswamy saying we don't believe what you're seeing. hunter biden will be ultimately protect theed. what do you think about that. >> couple different things, the gun charge was indicted at this point essentially had to be acted on because of speedy trial issues and that charge had never been indicted since it was going to be diverted under that agreement. so david weiss had to move forward on that. that doesn't tell us anything about whether he plans to move

makers. thousands of workers already walking off the job. three plants in michigan missouri and ohio. united auto workers local 19 tony joins us from ohio. tony good morning, we're about five hours into this now, where do things go from here? what happens today? >> it depends on the companies. good morning, thank you for having me. you know, i was at the jeep facility here in toledo at midnight. i think i see myself in that clip right there. and, you know, this is -- all depends on the companies on whether we get a fair deal or not on how long this goes, and if there's more facilities that go out. >> carley: so how far apart are you guys in negotiations now? last we heard united auto workers are asking for a 46% increase and the counter offer from gm and ford is 20%. >> we're still a ways away which

is unfortunate. the president plans that wasn't a reference point is was a deadline. pretty historic to take on all three companies at the same time. different tactic. we were all prepared to go out. we didn't find out until late yesterday on who was actually going out. you know, our membership is across town. we were prepared to go if we were called upon, and we're still ready to go if talks don't improve at the table and we get a deal. >> reporter: there will be a major ripple effect here especially if this thing drags on. the ceo of ford jim farley says what you guys are doing could affect workers at downstream assembly plants saying we can't make a vehicle without trans situation or stamping so those people will basically be furloughed and that's one of the reasons why this could cost, estimate, $5.6 billion in losses if this strike plays out for 10 days. so what's your reaction to all of that? >> it's a true statement but,

you know, they're in control of whether or not we get the deal. we've had record -- these companies have had record profits year after year. you know, we gave the concessions back in 2009 during the bankruptcy and, you know, they ever record compensation. you know, when you look at the increase of their wages, it's over the 40% we're asking for. we just want a fair deal. when you look at that jeep facility, they had over 1300 temporary employees that go, you know, years on end without being made permanent. so their wages are at about 16 lars an hour and that's not right while these corporations in the first half of this year alone, they can afford it. >> carley: i was also reading one of the areas of concern has to do with electric vehicles and the push of evs because it takes fewer people to make them is

that true. >> it does, we're fortunate to have a $750 million investment in our facility. there's enough jobs in the transition, but that's as long as the work's made here in our country, not mexico not china. that's on the companies as well to see if they want to be good us manufacturing companies that are true to our country, or do they want to support economies of mexico or china? there's enough jobs in ev to go around as long as they're done here. >> reporter: interesting. so working up the latter here politically, how much has president biden been active in the negotiations as far as you're concerned and do you think he should play a bigger role or stay out of it? what are your threats. >> well, he's not at the table, our negotiators are. and, you know, i know he's watching this. this isn't good for anybody's economy so the tricker the

claim only 36% of registered voters think biden is mentally fit to serve as president. same poll also shows 46% of voters believe donald trump is able to serve. kristen jackson, maria ruth dunning and austin kelly all campus correspondents and join me now. kristen i would like to start with you. the key take away from this poll is that month by month more and more people do not think joe biden is fit mentally to serve as president. but the underlying thought in this poll is we have a lot of old candidates. so as a college student, would you prefer someone who's younger at this point in time? >> thank you so much for having me. i don't think i would necessarily prefer someone who was younger. i prefer someone who gets the job done. and i think we get into the identity politics of younger versus older, raise and all that and i don't think that matters.

so the union representing nearly 150,000 auto workers did launch that strike early this morning against the big three, of course that's gm, ford and stellantis but they did fail to reach a deal on a contract. just before midnight targeted walkouts began in i shall innen ga, ohio and missouri. so the economic impact of a strike lasted for ten days with the full shutdown at $5.6 billion. these numbers are hard to quantify this is the best analysis we have today. americans are already seeing inflation rear its ugly head across the country. we got that data this week. it's showing for instance oil prices jumped 41%, that number, gasoline up 20%. and in that same time frame overall, wholesale inflation is up.7%. that is a rue view of what the consumer price index will show us next month and the fed watching this closely and retail

gasoline we're at $3.61 this morning and oil prices are starting to push around that $90 level i see no signs that's going to change so all of this is going to impact, guess what, not the striking workers but it's going to impact the nation. >> yeah, and one of the reasons the workers are on strikes that to push for evs out of california. >> absolutely, we've been talking about the ev mandates that they want out in california. well the house of representatives in washington, dc, those representatives voted thursday afternoon to strike down environmental regulations in california that mandate the purchase of evs. the rote was 222-190 approving the preserving choice and vehicle purchases act. so this was a group that was represented by john joyce in pennsylvania. he told fox news it doesn't help in any district to have them buy an ev regardless of what they
