eric: appears to be a brazen attack against those who protect us. christina coleman live in los angeles with the very latest hi christina. >> hi eric the association of l.a. deputy sheriffs says they are deeply mou morning over the unprovoked execution of deputy. they say the 30-year-old was ruthlessly shot at close range last night while in his patrol car. take a look at this video. in honor of the young man freeways were briefly shut down as deputies escorted his body to the l.a. county corn court or m the hospital last night. the sheriff says he embodied the values of bravery and selflessness. he worked for the sheriffs department for eight years carrying on his family's honorable legacy in law enforcement. he was going to get married the 30-year-old just got engaged, just four days before his senseless murder played the sheriff said law enforcement spent time with his loved ones last night in the wake of this tragedy.

i just wanted to allow you any personal thoughts you might have at this time. >> something of this cuts very deep to law enforcement. everybody thanks of officers they knew that were lost in the ligline of duty. it evokes memories of not only incidents here in new york city, last year we had two officers who were ambushed on a domestic call. but even the l.a. county sheriff's office is unfortunately very familiar with this because three years ago there was an ambush of two of their sheriffs. fortunately the two officers survive for that trial is ongoing as i understand it now. there has not been any recent reporting on it but the shooter in that case chose to go to trial. unfortunately this is something cops are all too familiar with. everyone has the story i certainly do. i knew two officers loss in the line of duty one very, very well. it brings up all those emotions is tough in our hearts watching his family, his fiancée in all l

his fellow officers. arthel: of course of course and i'm sorry for your loss. based on your experience what you think is at play here? what is the likelihood of the sheriff's department and surrounding agents in l.a. county finding the suspect or suspects? >> we have to be very careful with speculation we do not have all the facts the incident just occurred. there are couplings i find troubling number one he had just left command. the precinct building he hasn't uniform, he is an eight marked cart shortly after 6:00 p.m. was he doing a tour that start at 6:00 a.m. did someone know that? was he specifically targeted? was a 911 call put into getting out of the precinct or any cop out of the precinct? did someone call his phone to get all the precinct? there is a history of a planning like that to get it officer to a scene so as to ambush him but i just mentioned one there are others where they'll be

professional comportment. that is the first line of defense and keeping in the area safe. people feel safe and will generally act accordingly when there's a uniformed cop on the scene so by definition cops are putting themselves out there. it is undeniably a trend it. i am sure we could pin it to the loss of respect and stature for the police is going on in our society for a while now. certainly since 2020 we have seen a lot of the stuff. at the end of the day i can say to my fellow officers is be vigilant. people see you. you don't know what you're dealing with. everyone has a story and my heart goes out to them. it's a very, very tough time to be out there is a police officer special uniformed patrol. men, women, everybody. just watch yourself. arthel: if i could get a quick answer this why is public cooperation and tips important? >> of us in a case like this if they don't have the surveillance video to go on and at the end of
