on the nation's migrant crisis are expected to come up as illegal crossings skyrocket at the southern border. cbp sources say agents encountered more than 10,000 migrants at the border yesterday alone. numbers are stunning, john. hello, well come everyone, i'm sandra smith in new york. >> john: certainly are. back to where we were in the spring, i'm john roberts in washington. this is "america reports." the new surge of migrants streaming into the u.s. straining resources from coast to coast, texas, one of the border states, bearing the brunt of the situation. the governor sending more national guard troops to reinstall razor wire used as a deterrent. >> sandra: the biden administration extending temporary protected status for venezuelan migrants already here. the move will expedite work permits for those migrants, but critics are saying it will also lead to more illegal immigration. lieutenant christopher oliveras

enforcement posted up at the edge of the river but they are not doing anything. the people show up at the river's edge, walk down to the edge of the river and cross over to the u.s. side. a tug-of-war between texas and the federal government. texas does not want to let any of these migrants in, they are deploying razor wire, not letting people in. border patrol yesterday cut some of the wire to allow some migrants in, sometimes they do that, but when they feel there is safety issues involved, but you can see what's going on with this live drone right now, guys. this has been playing out since sunrise in eagle pass, nonstop groups, nonstop illegal crossings here, and as some try to get into the united states, others on the mexican side are doing the exact same thing. likely run into the razor wire as well. we want to show you what it was like earlier today. take a look at this video on the ground here, i mention started after sunrise, it has been nonstop. more migrants in the water crossing illegally, predominantly single adults from

venezuela, some have been carrying venezuelan flags as they cross illegally into the united states. this has been going on since yesterday when we had over 3,000 people cross at the same time. one of the biggest mass crossing we have seen since two years ago in del rio, texas. they stream into eagle pass, gather under the international bridge here. it's very noncha lant. it's bizarre. people are not running, not going crazy, it's just like a single file line of people walking down and crossing into texas illegally because they expect to be released. and back out here live, to that point, mass catch and release is the policy of the biden administration here at the southern border. the border patrol union just tweeted out an hour ago that in the last three weeks alone, more than 100,000 migrants have been released into the united states. they say that is a huge pull factor and why so many people are deciding to cross illegally. back to you. >> john: bill, when i was

covering the border crisis in 2015, a group of ten people was rare because mostly 1 and 2. and these days, if you see ten people, it's rare, because it's dozens, hundreds or thousands. >> bill: when i first started covering for fox, if i saw a group of 50, my jaw hit the floor. like wow, this is crazy. 50 people? now we see a group of 300 and like oh, do we have to pick up the camera or a group of 500 behind them. the numbers are enormous. and what we saw yesterday with the group of 3,000, i had not seen something like that since two years in del rio with the haitians and the encounter numbers are all time record highs, john. >> john: it's amazing you can get hundreds crossing into the country illegally. that's where we are. bill, thank you. sandra. >> sandra: lieutenant christopher oliveras of the texas department of public safety. lieutenant, thank you very much for joining us. what should we think when we see numbers like this and see pictures and images like we have in recent days?
10:06 am
i mean, we are now looking at 10,000 migrants at the border yesterday alone. this brings us back to the high of may, days before the end of title 42. where is this going? >> seeing those images is shocking, and we have been talking about it for the past two and a half years and the fact the federal government has not put deterrent measures in place or consequences or policies to prevent unauthorized border crossings between ports of entry. all it's doing, encouraging more illegal immigrants to make their way to the united states and that's what we are seeing play out in eagle pass. and influx across texas and also arizona. but most recently, sandra, significant to us as a state is that the mayor of eagle pass, most recently, authorized our state troopers to regain control of that part in eagle pas and that's what we are doing this morning. we have a sustained presence of law enforcement from state troopers to national guard that
10:07 am
are at that part now and we will make arrests today. anyone that violates state crime, cross the concertina wire or damage property around the river, we are going to make arrest. and that will send a message that the state of texas will have deterrent measures in place and if you violate a state crime you will be arrested. >> sandra: we used to only have to cover it as a border state, a border community issue. we well know now this is affecting every state in the nation. here is "new york post" cover today, lieutenant, anarchy, 4,000 illegal migrant cross border in a day, unlawful economy is exploding in new york city, biden still does nothing and here are new york officials, state and local officials on this migrant situation in this city. listen. >> we are not only getting asylum seekers from venezuela, we are getting them from west

and not just asylum seekers, but people from over 160 different countries and it's not just asylum seekers. you have bad individuals among the groups trying to sneak into the country to evade capture. over 1.7 known got-aways, that's a threat to national security and a threat to public safety. >> sandra: national security, that is a big, big problem. we may hear a question put to the white house in just a few moments when the briefing is underway. meanwhile, tough questions are being put to democrats. finish off with this. hillary vaughn is grilling house democrats. >> can i ask, is the border out of control? >> what is our immigration system is broken. we need for republicans to stop talking about open borders. >> when you see the cbp officers releasing migrants en mass on the streets, do you think that sends a message to people the border is open? >> the border is not open.

10:15 am
right now do not accurately reflect what the situation on the border actually is. does she say people are not crawling under razor wire, not crossing the rio grande en mass, what is she saying? i don't get it. >> sandra: and congresswoman jiapal said we need republicans to stop talking about the open borders, denying the fact people are pouring over the borders. and the same time yesterday, we were looking at hundreds, if not over 1,000 of those migrants gathering underneath that bridge there, and just clearly easily making their way into the country. >> john: 4,000 of them, 10,000 plus crossed yesterday. but don't believe your lying eyes. apparently that's not what's really happening. >> sandra: and maxwell frost, democrat from florida, the border is not open. it would appear they are the ones living in alternate reality because this is live on the screen right now, john.

every human being has flaws, but should we apply today's standards to people who lived more than 500 years ago? or should we remember the deeds they accomplished to help us build a great civilization and country. i am prepared to move these statues to the town of brookhaven, half a million people. we have like 25 parks throughout the town. we have port jefferson would be a great statue for thomas jefferson to land. george washington, we take him where he visited row tavern and to inspire, and join the revolution. and christopher columbus, a lot of italian americans here in brookhaven and the knights of columbus would welcome an opportunity to maintain a statue to christopher columbus. >> sandra: there is some outrage over it, there was a public hearing before the cultural affairs committee, the author of

the bill to remove the statues, councilwoman sandy nurse, a democrat from brooklyn bridge, insisting she is attempting to correct history, not cancel it. you can respond to that while i put up on the screen, george washington, thomas jefferson, christopher columbus, these are just some of the statues -- you wrote a letter to mayor adams saying you will take these statues, you will pay to bring them to your town, you'll even pack them up. have you gotten a response? >> haven't got a response but i'm very hopeful. there are people that want to forget history, because they don't like it, because it doesn't fit in with their narrative of what history should be today. but these people lived some time ago, these are the founders of our country, of our civilization. we want to remember them for their flaws and for their accomplishments. we want to remember what history teaches us. and if we start trying to decide how we should edit history, we

our first president. >> sandra: is your town for it, sir? are you getting support in your town? are you getting support in your town to bring -- >> absolutely. >> sandra: ok, very interesting. >> absolutely. obviously the town of brookhaven, 70 miles east of new york city has a different point of view. i don't want to denigrate other points of view. i just don't agree with them and we are prepared to act on that and we are prepared to remember our history and our heroes and those who made this country what it is today despite their flaws. >> sandra: ed, we appreciate you joining us. we will watch to see how this all turns out. thanks for coming on. >> thank you so much, thank you. >> john: looking at the extraordinary pictures from the border, bill melugin is live in eagle pass, texas. bill, from our hillary vaughn, maxwell frost, democrat of florida said the border is not open, congresswoman debbie wasserman schultz also of florida, what you see is
10:42 am
different than what happens in actuality. what do you make of those two statements based on what you are seeing? >> to be quite honest, those statements are just an alternate reality, and you talk to any of the migrants here, ask them is the border open or closed, they tell you open, it's open, and told us on camera multiple times. fox news drone 100 yards behind me, a sizeable group crossed illegally here in eagle pass, texas. our viewers have been watching on the drone. they crossed the river and then they encountered the texas razor wire that has been deployed at the edge of the river. they were waiting for almost an hour, not sure what to do, hoping border patrol would let them in. texas did not open it or cut it, so all those people crawled through that razor wire, called concertina wire, designed to snag on clothing. saw little children, parents, the whole group crawl through the wire and enter into texas illegally.
10:43 am
so it goes to say the razor wire is not just a sure-all at stopping illegal immigration as are these shipping containers here as well, they can't stop everything. and real quick, if we can turn the drone around, what we would like to show you is on the other side of the river in mexico, i've been mentioning this the last day or so, the mexican government has placed mexican soldiers and mexican police dotted along the river. sometimes they are a little hard to see, they are dressed in tan, tan uniforms, and they are there to be this supposed show of force to tell the migrants, you know, you are not going t cross illegally. about you all the migrants cross in front of them. half the time we don't see them get out of their vehicles to try to stop them. so the mexican government obviously could be going more but are deciding not to for whatever reason, john. >> john: we'll get back to you. extraordinary pictures, thank you so much. >> sandra: thank you john and to bill. we will check back in shortly. young americans pursuing tiktok may have come across political ads touting president biden's

10:57 am
polls show that. nobody is against having responsible safeguards to make sure that people who vote are supposed to be voting. and so i do think it's really interesting that you have this entire organized effort designed to thwart the will of the people and kind of override the debate and you know, granted it's on tiktok, and i don't know how influential that is with a lot of voters, but it's clearly influential with a lot of young voters. >> john: with a lot of voters, no question about that. the "new york times" also suggests that this is a way of getting around the rules regarding political ads, they write the federal election commission, which oversees campaign finance law, including political advertising, does not have specific regulations for influencers, meaning they are not subject to the rules like tv and radio ads which mandate disclosure of who paid for the content. so, your kid or you are watching
