show you. i will show it to you now. the border patrol agents handing a small child helping a migrants off of these boxes. they were also put here by the state of texas to try to deter them. it really speaks to the humanitarian crisis it. the agents had to take care otherwise these migrants and certainly the small child being handed now could be injured. it's really why this is such an important story. why the community is on the state of emergency. earlier on "fox news sunday" texas a congressman democrat had this to say about the situation. listen. >> we need to have repercussions at the border. what does that mean? you got to deport people and show those images of people being deported. >> this comes dhs secretary alejandro mayorkas visits the border not here in eagle pass but he was in mcallen, texas

part of the rio grande valley talking about actions they are taking like increasing deportations in 800 active-duty troops to the border. but obviously things are not under control right now but that is why you got other places like el paso, the mayor they are saying they have reached quote a breaking point. arthel: will take it back here it live from the border, thank you griffin. eric: alejandro mayorkas visited the customs and border protection he was joined by the honduran president who tried to discuss the recent surge of migrants at the bar this comes as house republicans they have been investigating and the administration handling of immigration at the southern border. they claim the border it was a close. as we have seen that is not what we see, david spot live at the white house with more on the north lawn. >> no question the border crisis has been a massive headache not

that seems to have taken a backseat at the table. but this is only intensifying as this goes on, the strike. eric: r8 david thank you. to be five as a promise will bring in a former u.s. border patrol chief ron vitiello. hehe is former acting isa director. i have several things i want to get through with you. this agreement between u.s. and mexico purportedly with mexico agreeing to deport migrants back to their home countries from border cities with the goal to what they called depressurized cities like eagle pass where we just saw griffin. el paso and san diego. and mexico again reportedly will implement measures to keep migrants from hopping trains to get here. i'm not sure what you know about this. it is not everything but is this something can it help? outsourcing this a problem to mexico is a big problem.

you want to talk about where these folks are coming from. you want to talk about root causes. what is not a disagreement that i have seen us are going to control their southern border like they did in the last administration. 25000 national guard troops. so yes, relieving the cities and war as, tijuana and all those is fine. that's going to help the people on the ground down there. is not going to end of the problem is not going to keep people out of the pipeline. they keep people off of the train, then don't just use smugglers, buses and trucks and dangerous vehic vehicle succumbe southwest border. what needs to happen is that each got to the root cause the needs go after why these people are coming and the need to put in place, there needs to be consequences for people across the border illegally. if you let a third of everyone who shows up at the border or more into the united states, with a promise to appear at some date in the future they succeeded in that just encourages more people to come. that has to end. that is with the policy they inherited and they have broken it all down.
9:09 am
this is what the results are. arthel: meanwhile as you know four days ago the defense department announced they are sending at least 800 new active personnel to the border for the going to enforce the 2500 national guard members already there. is there presence alone enough to deter and curb the overwhelming number of illegal crossings we are seeing? it worked in 2019. if you don't think it can work now, how best can we use our uniformed service members down and to make a difference of the southern border? >> 800 on top of what is there the people they're not stopping the flow. because again the root cause is the policy of this administration. i am grateful the national guard is down there upping my former colleagues. it is a rich history of us using soldiers in these roles but they will not stop people from coming across the border. they will add and help the operator. as an operator you want more boots on the ground. this will not end until the

policy changes. i am afraid this is an additive to the operation but nothing that's going to solve the problem that we have. arthel: you know this, under federal statute the department departmentopponent security andt biden can temporarily close the particular ports of entry along the southern border to protect national interest. there are limitations. however do you think he biden administration would have the support from the majority of americans to temporarily seal sections of the southern border? >> subordinate communities are up against this. closing their for business and commerce in places like eagle pass and laredo where i was stationed. if you shut the ports of entry down there's economic impact both sides of the border. again it's not going to stop this problem.

here's an example pay the president has been involved in government since 1973. he ran for office many times. he was a senator for a long time. he was a vice president during the last surge. i could not believe for a sack and he does not know it's going out the southwest border in the sense this chaos has continued from day one he took office. and has done nothing to relieve what is going on in the pipeline. droves of the people every 24 hours about 6000 people cross the border illegally. those are only the ones encountered by the border patrol. that does not count for all the other people that are getting away. it does not count for the fentanyl that is getting away and being smuggled across the border. it does not account for the people being trafficked by smugglers. this is a big problem and it has been a big problem for this is someone who knew better. 2014 had unprecedented surge of families that are southwest border. he was the vice president, alejandro mayorkas was a deputy at dhs. they know what fix the problem in 2015 but they refused to do
9:12 am
what they know works. why? arthel: is 62% of americans disapprove of biden's handling of the southern border. you menti mentioned, we talked t the notion of showing pictures and sending a message of showing people being deported because they're coming here illegally. you seem to think that would help. i'm running out of time if you could quickly close for me on what do you really think could help now? i get it president biden according to 60% of people polled these not doing the job right. what could we do right now to help fix this? >> they could reinstate the protocols pretty want to leverage mexico to keep people in mexico until they have their hearing. they cannot be released into the night say sale stop coming. it's happened every time we've done it. in 2014 we have specific detention centers to people are peoplecoming and wanted a s. we held them until they had

their court dates. they stopped coming and if they are not released into the united states. arthel: you are saying retain them and mexico, is that what you are saying is the best? >> in mexico or in detention. that is worth every time they have tried it. they rip this down when they took it over and this is the result of it. arthel: look, it is complicated but will bring you back it's definitely a problem americans are tired of this problem and is to get solved. former border pool border patrol chief ron vitiello thank you for joining us. eric: immigration, the migrants and illegal immigration a big topic coming up in the second republican presidential primary debates three days from now on wednesday. wwe will be live from the ronald reagan library in simi valley, california. aired both on foxbusiness and simulcast here on the fox news channel. so what can we expect from those who will be showing up? the former president skipping it for now as he maintains a large lead in the republican primary

from the fbi to the department of education, to many others that should no longer exist. resend those unconstitutional federal regulations for that is how you solve the national debt crisis. that is how you grow the economy. that essay restore the integrity of our constitutional republic. i think a lot of this is short-term gaming. we need to focus on the real thing. that is how i lead as u.s. president. eric: the critics are saying shutting down some but you just mentioned is absurd. it will never work you happy fda, the fbi fight against terrorism and crime. but you do have, it seems a point with this dance drama we go through. we have seen this movie all over again. in terms that we get to the edge and they pull back. >> i think the status quo is really what is absurd. we are on a path to fiscal armageddon if we keep walking in that same direction. conversely it might plans are deeply practical to come i plan to shut down the fbi.
9:28 am
even 15,035,000 agents we would keep but reorganize them hurt used move them to that u.s. marshal or dea or crime network at the u.s. treasury this is deeply practical but also necessary to revive what our founding fathers envisioned and also to revive us when to be necessary for steam letting our own economy and avoiding a national debt default in the long run. i think that's the combination is going to take great someone is deeply pragmatic but also keeps the northstar of our constitution in mind which has three branches of government, not four. you are right i am the only presidential candidate willing to go that far. but that is what is going to take to think on the timescales of history rather than just on the timescale of two-year election cycles. that's also why it's going to take someone coming from the outside but not in existing politician who needs to get that job done for the white house. eric: someone else is not existing professional politician, except he was governor of california of course ronald reagan. this debate will be held at the

9:30 am
reagan has violated that maxim. this is a bipartisan problem in our country which is exactly why it will take a leader from a different generation to reach in stand for the next generation. because the next generations the ones that bear the burden. my two sons and their generation do not have national pride anymore. they do not believe in the american dream anymore in part because they are the ones are going to bear the burden of our spending decisions of the national debt we're going to cripple them with it. i think i'm the youngest person ever to run as u.s. president as a republican and an outsider for that's what's went to take to ultimately get this right and think outside of the standard partisan boxes. and so my view is yes, declare economic independence from china. too that what was shut down the administrative state and resend those unconstitutional regulations here at home. and most importantly that is also how we revive national pride among young americans which is badly lacking. that is why i am in this race and i am confident that being honest with the people rather than reciting political plug it
