flooding the border city daily. the record high number of crossings is putting a serious strain on community shelters but welcome to a brand-new hour of fox news live i'm arthel neville. eric: hello everyone i'm eric ericsean thank you for joining . the pressure to try to manage the influx has been growing more intense by the day. scores of mostly venezuelans have been streaming across our border. they are part of a larger group of migrants looking to escape their country's unstable economy. dangerously high levels of crime. texas congr congressman tony goz says local authoritiesbrunt of the groundwork. >> border patrol agents are showing up to operate and processing centers. they are not out in the field they are not really doing their jobs. and they have not been doing their jobs. border patrol agents are out of the game. the folks doing that real work are the sheriffs and deputies. eric: the sink higher numbers now griffith jenkins with the latest on the ground.

she supports an open border. but she sees that we cannot afford to keep this up. that is why republicans of the u.s. house passed our border security bill hr two, pass it out of the house already. sitting over in the senates. and now we are trying to couple it with keeping the government open so that we can pressure the senate into passing the border security bill. we can't continue with the crisis. >> let's qualify base and she supports an open border. now i can open border with nothing, she would i imagine supports the way it stands now is legal to ask for asylum but after that, that's the whole problem. >> the time i've spent with her in the arizona legislature she was always supportive of what i would call open border policy. similar to what biden has now. you have 233,000 border crossings that happen in august

of 2023. compare that to just three years ago under trump was 50000. then you have another 211,000 migrants that flew directly into eight u.s. cities. then another 263,000 migrant that signed up on the one app. then they're up 500,000 venezuelans work permits. they will not be deported they are extending their parole. eric: the venezuelan policy applies with griff jenkins mentioned that with 472,000 or so who came here before july 31. that somehow gets lost in the message we just saw it in the video. but they may not get this. do they hear that? to other people in other countries in terms of coming here?

unacceptable operator by the state department transportation. inspectors found problems with the brakes on multiple buses. regency fixed each bus before it returned to service but the state never identified any problems with the bus that crashed. the department of transportation tells a fox news the vehicle involved in the crash was inspected in august of 2023, last month. upon purchase by the agency passed a semi annual inspection for this was the first inspe bus careened out a 50-foot ravine and tipped over off the side of the highway on thursday. five of the 40 high school band members involved suffered critical injuries. two adults died in the crash. the high school band director retired teacher you see them there. ntsb arrived at the crash site on friday the investigations expected to take between five days and a week. state police say faulty front tire it likel likely caused thet happen while the group traveled

turn the economy around. but especially how to avoid a government shutdown. arthel: where they were asked which candidate is extremely or very likely to defeat president biden, look at this. 66% said donald trump 865, ron desantis. 53% chose tim scott. 50% nikki haley, vivek ramaswamy got 45%. mike pence got 30% and 16% for chris christie. so can the former president p debates? the first debate those candidates up there jumped in the numbers, nikki haley especially a big impact on her campaign and people who are looking to support her. and polls recite nikki haley would far surpass being current president biden in a head-to-head matchup. it's pretty telling and something that again they can really capitalize on next week to build momentum and separate themselves from the pack rate but also to be a nominee than

president trump or i look forward to hearing from each of them because six of the 70 just showed on the screen there are going to be there next week. we will get to hear from them directly. as voters that is critically important. we need to hear from the candidates were running for office. they should want to earn our votes and donald trump should also intern our votes with the shame he will be showing up yet again. arthel: how can nikki haley will maintain her momentum? >> being the adult in the room. she really positioned herself last time her to specially talk of compassion on certain issues that impact voters. in particular talk about abortion. she was able to be empathetic and talk about her personal experience with adoption and struggles to get pregnant. talk about certain issues like childcare and how you can support women. coming from all different kinds of angles will appeal to a broader base of voters. and they beat the ones were not as vocally decisive about how they feel on that issue but who cared deeply about it.

lexi could be in a number of things that again thank you for having me on to talk about this. this aircraft is highly sophisticated but there's a lot of technology. i would c called an indicator what's going on across the department of defense and all f our services. the standards in maintenance and keeping things ready for a war are also degrading. along with everything else it seems to be happening with the department of defense. i consider aviation av maintenance a key indicator what's going on than the rest of the military. if we are seeing 55% readiness rates are some of our most sophisticated aircraft, that is really just a symptom of what's happened to the rest the military in general. before it let me stop you for a second period can you explain why something as basic as maintenance is an indicator? is it because it's basic? is it because you should be ready? why would a maintenance been

indicator what's going wrong? >> at first about when you're maintaining an aircraft it's one of those things you are using every single day. if your maintenance is bad it's out there on stage in front of the public every day part you are flying with them you are training with them as like other systems in the military that only occasionally get used. so to me that's on the biggest reasons. the other thing is not because it is simple it takes a lot of training a very specialized training on the contract side and on the uniform side. if you are losing any time with the quality of your training or any tanytime on the aircraft top them fixed where you're not able to get the parts because of funding or supply chain management issues, then ultimately what you end up with is a very expensive aircraft that cannot fly for many of those reasons for it may be all them or maybe just one. eric: i read some of the report it is unbelievable. maintenance staff that cannot look up the parts they want.

because they can act the part number for the cac the part number because in the computer it's which manufactured the f35 dinner database. they cannot get access to that. so it's like if your car you get a new carburetor at the mechanics as i'm going to look up your part. i can't get your part ford has it i cannot order that they have 10,000 parts backlogged, or talking f35. not talk about a vw bug. >> says exactly one of the problems. you've got aircraft even ground vehicles are increasingly sophisticated with regard to their technologies. a lot of the technology they are using belongs to the companies that sell to the department of defense and ultimately to the taxpayer. they keep a lot of these things hidden from the general user after uniforms. it requires a lot of contractors
