"the washington post" and abc combined on a poll that's not unique. but the result is relatively unique. it turns out that head-to-head crump beats joe biden by 10

points. that might be a secret. other tranels were so horrified by this they would not even report it. for abc they were panicked in saying it and immediately almost tried to walk back and diminish their own poll. >> steve: when you read what "the washington post" wrote and they said, you know, joe biden is struggling with the economy, with immigration, with the fact that the u.s. is doing too much in ukraine, they say, and joe biden's age, this appeared to be an outlier. in other words, we spent -- i'm guessing, they spent $100,000 probably to do this poll and got results they didn't want but they published it anyway. they said this survey is significantly at odds with other public polls that show that general election contest a virtual dead heat. the difference between the poll and others as well as usual makeup of trump and biden's coalitions in this survey suggest it is probably an outlier. so don't essentially don't trust it. other stuff says something else.

>> lawrence: i find the whole thing curious. you know, if you go back to 2020, looking at polling from back in there. there was a gallup poll that said 56% of americans considered themselves better off against donald trump. when they went down to the bottom of the poll 44% agreed that he had presidential qualities and 49% agreed with him on some of the issues. and so, when you put all of that together, people are better off under donald trump but they just didn't like his tone and tenure. why does that matter now? things just aren't going so well. 78% of americans feel like we are heading down the wrong direction. and i think, ainsley, this has to do with people choosing how they feel over personality, this election cycle, because things just aren't going right in the economy. >> ainsley: they didn't have to publish this. they could have gotten these results. "new york post" wouldn't have posted sthg positive toward trump. i thought maybe they are pushing this because they want a

different candidate. >> steve: right? >> lawrence: squeeze him. >> ainsley: then it sounds like when they walk it back, this is an outlier. this is unlike any other poll it. sounds like, maybe, democrats got on "the washington post." i can't believe y'all ran. this i can't believe you are saying. this this is unlike any other poll. oh, maybe you are right. let's paint it as outlier. >> brian: the problem is in may they did a similar poll and trump won by 7. head-to-head it's just overwhelming. 74% believe that his age and fitness or a huge detriment for him. >> ainsley: that's in the nbc poll. >> brian: and with just filling out the abc poll, which is pretty astounding, if you look at people and you mention only 15% think they are better off, when you take a look at what they president-what the current president is doing now with job approval. he is at 37% job approval. if you look at the final result. it is not surprising.

when you look at the other elements of this poll, that he is actually losing by this much. but it also shows you that he is almost incapable of selling his economic gains. he spent the whole summer telling us how great bidenomics was. and, get what? nobody agrees with him. >> so, regarding the question about his age and everything else. it's taking it's toll. one of the nbc questions was would you like a democratic candidate to challenge joe biden? and this is among democrats. and look at that. 60 percent said yes. and 36 percent said no. it's interesting. in the "the washington post" poll, when asked, who would you like, 8 percent said bernie sanders. 8 percent said kamala harris. 20 percent said somebody else. and 40 percent said i got no opinion. so, so many democrats want somebody else. >> ainsley: gavin wasn't on it. >> steve: nobody on the horizon

it's not that we can't get women in this profession, it's that we can't get anybody to this profession. we have got to hire qualified candidates. not just women. look, in that wapo op-ed. we had the discussion, for example, want holmes from the msnbc she said let's get rid of that 1.5-mile run we will recruit more women into this profession because no one chases anybody for 1.5 miles. we don't do a run to test how long you can chase someone we test for cardiovascular fitness. we have not to bash men to get more women in this profession. the profession doesn't need to be fixed. society needs to be fixed. policemen and police women do their job to frequent country. let's fix the false narrative and not worry about people's genders.

>> lawrence: sergeant, you always have a pragmatic approach to doing with this. you have got to change the messaging, too, to get people to love the job again. what do you tell young officers to the kids that are criminal justice students out there to inspire them to want to do the job? >> thank you for having me. what i do go out to the physical fitness exam myself with them and do the exam with them just to show them that anything is possible. even at my age, after 32 years in this profession. i love being a police officer. our responsibility as police leaders is to promote our profession to talk about the nobility of it and talk about the voice of the victims that's our responsibility i is tell people all the the time tell the story of alt amazing great work of the men and women do. if it's one or 500 i will do it it's a great profession. i cannot encourage people to come to any agency and join the

ranks of law enforcement. >> lawrence: in a newspaperrer why did you decide do the job. >> it's a calling. i movie people are called to this profession of service because they want to help and protect those who cannot protect themselves weigh are in a law enforcement crisis right now. it's not about a gender and willingness and to ability do the job women make some of the greatest cops i know. great empathy, compassion, nurturing, the sail qualities that keep them from the job. i'm all for supporting and enticing women to join our ranks. but we have to see that's a bigger problem. the left wing has criminalized officers. we have made our officers public enemy number one and wondering why we have a personnel shortage? this is the greatest job in the world. we get to be at people's side
