incompetent and i think governor doug burgum shown himself to be competent. self-made success story, humble roots, republican, there are a lot of people like doug burgum who will have trouble getting on the stage next time, like hutchinson. how does he continue? how do you continue, lawrence? >> lawrence: brian, just to build on your point, one thing is different from this diner, they like the people on the stage. they love tim scott's story and passion for america. they love governor desantis record in florida and through covid and love nikki haley's policy and how she stands on the world stage and love the fresh ideas from vivek ramaswamy and his new approach to doing things and being so candid, they love them all from that standpoint, they just don't feel like they

have what it takes to defeat donald trump. now these guys become the nominee, they will gladly vote for any of the folks on the stage, they don't feel like they took the thrown away from donald trump. that is important to note. >> ainsley: maybe that is why he's doing so well. his record and his policy. look at the list who was own. mike pence became vice president because of trump. nikki haley became the un ambassador because of donald trump. ron desantis won because of donald trump went and campaigned for him, desantis was behind with gillian. vivek praising him and chris christie was first to endorse him and doug burgum, i don't know his relationship with trump, a lot of them over their careers in some aspect to donald trump. >> steve: now push comes to shove and after the second debate no knock-out punches,

am. ron desantis had a special showing, i've had big fights and big wins. nikki haley, similar approach, and vice president pence, this is who i am, the approach i'm taking. vivek almost did a total 180's, not sure if that will work for him, especially as new candidate who came to his world view more recently. last week saying everyone is bought and paid for, this week saying let's all get along and saw all the incoming on him. in the spin room, he talked about, i'm learning as a candidate, this is a new phase, which is an honest admission from vivek, but tough to come into a campaign with an evolving learning mindset when you are learning against people who have been in office and running against a former president. i think doug burgum stuck himself out there trying to get

time where he could and was straight-forward on ev vehicles, but i think too little too late. should donald trump not show up and there are not breakthrough moments, they will be become debates and the challenge is to -- it is what ron desantis hasn't figured out yet, how do you chip away at trump's lead without offending his voters. we'll see if it reflects in the polls. >> steve: ron desantis challenged donald trump to a one-on-one debate and trump i think dismissed that. same time, the trump people put out a statement saying, enough of a republican debates. trump will win. let's go ahead and take on joe biden. >> peter: i saw that. you will see the rnc continuing to increase threshold for what it makes to make the debate

stage and that will lead to more robust debates because conversations can be had and maybe trump joins somewhere along the line. >> ainsley: to piggyback on what lawrence was saying, look at doug burgum, nice guy, done great for his state, he talked about ranchers and cowboys and farmers, he's a billionaire, i'm sure he runs his state, i've hired more people than anybody on this stage. every time he talked, i found myself thinking, we like him, but get him off the stage, don't take up time from the people who are really real candidates. >> peter: i think there is a lot of that and chris christie is running kamikaze drones into trump with no chance to win, raising his profile to be on tv in the future. >> steve: hey, we like tv, pete.

million. the attorney general ran on the platform of convicting him, that gets people more than upset and my view, lawrence, builds up the trump support. you are not giving me a chance to vote on my guy, you are trying to take his money, let alone his freedom. >> lawrence: you make a great point, the governors, christie and desantis, you have chris christie that is attacking donald trump in the wrong way, that will completely turn off his supporters, especially when he gets into the prosecution and he was someone that prosecuted rico cases, the maga base will shut you down immediately. when it comes to ron desantis, if he would have did this earlier and i see where he is going with this. his argument, donald trump is not maga enough, he wasn't really about the maga, he did do

lockdowns. i think if ron desantis would have initiated the one-on-one debate instead of not showing up for different moments, media hits and different communities high should have done earlier. i don't know the initial advisors, i think it was a misstep. the new ron desantis could work, but it is too late. >> steve: his donors have been wanting him to push and he did last night, see if it impacts polls. >> brian: someone not on the stage last night making news, gavin newsom, all wondering same thing. >> do you feel biden is holding you back from running? >> no. >> sean: are you kidding? >> brian: nope, he is not kidding, his words versus his actions coming up. that's a lot of gel.

our party has been billed on that movement. when donald trump came down the elevator he promised to govern conservative. what i tried to make clear last night in the midst of that hustle and bustle debate and i've made clear traveling around the country, the choice republicans face is whether to continue on that path or follow the siren song of pop limp for conserveative principles? donald trump is talking about, as others on the stage last night, about pulling back from american leadership in the world. we cut taxes, donald trump is advocating 10% tax on all goods coming into the united states, that would impact inflation and pocketbooks and seen the president shy away from the right to life. it is important republicans understand if you are looking for continuation of the policies

the republican party have been defined by over 30 or 40 years, i'm the most consistent and qualified and i will lead our party and country back to what made us strong, prosperous and free. >> ainsley: who is your biggest competitor and what is your strategy to make the next debate? >> i think that would be for others to say. in one national poll, we were ranked fourth in the last several days, but i'm not looking so much at this field and not even looking so much at donald trump, as i am in making sure we articulate our unique vision. a national survey, ainsley, said i beat joe biden 52-46. i think that is because of the broad appeal and back background we bring to this. we will work our hearts out.

learn anything new or dr differently about them? some are repeating their bios and talking points. the other thing some will ask is did anybody give me cause for pause? i'm on this path to support the guy to do the job in the future has done the job in the past. did anyone make me think twice about that? the other thing i see on the stage, respectfully, nobody is under oath, not a full story about how full-throated and all in they were during the trump presidency. i worked there every single day for four years, with exception of vivek ramaswamy, every man and woman on the stage was part of the trump administration, including doug burgum, his wife was helpful, as well. so in some ways, you have to distance yourself from the work you tried to support in the trump/pence administration and

tell americans how we would do it different and we didn't hear that. and electability, sucked the life out of great conservative candidates. voters don't ask who can win, they ask who can lead. the electability is why he is prohibitive front-runner, he's overcome that the establishment created to try to stop him. it is richly ironic. why do they talk more about trump than joe biden and kamala harris? my girlfriends and i, when we want to feel super smart, we say two words kamala harris, they hardly said her name last night. >> brian: do you think any of the candidates rather face gavin

newsom or joe biden? >> they'd rather face joe biden. >> steve: 100%. >> kellyanne: you know what you get, joe biden has no good news and no one is polling. nbc and these other friends of his who would prefer democratic presidents, no doubt, are running polls that must cost millions, to show joe biden and kamala harris have no good news. they are not above -- and i think that gavin newsom would be a wild card that people aren't ready for. it is difficult to dislodge a sitting president and we are getting late. nevada rules, you have until october 16th to qualify. sounds great on paper. democrats making big mistake keeping biden-harris for their party, but we'll take it.

>> i actually am uninsured, i lost my job during the pandemic as a new york city teacher, i was fired for not complying with the mask mandate. i have concern not having health insurance, but i like the idea that free market and unleashing power of the american worker is the answer. maybe as a 33-year-old i don't want to invest so much in health insurance, have a savings and if anything happens, i can use my savings, god forbid. i want to be able to move from my condo, to a house. be able to go to the grocery store and buy good food. there are people begging for teachers. dennis, you are a middle school teacher and have great benefits, but they don't pay enough in the overall salary. what did you hear last night or
