>> hello, i am jason chaffetz, nicole saphier, jimmy jones and sara carter. the "big weekend show" is happening right now. tonight we are watching capitol hill where the senate will vote on a short-term spending bill to keep the government open. if something happens, we will bring it to you. earlier a wild moment during the chaos among congress. progressive squad member congressman jamaal bowman pulled the fire alarm. about this obstruction? that's coming up but first, the big story is the high power of psychedelics. research not mastered magic mushrooms and other drugs like mdma is a reliable treatment for ptsd and depression. now congress is given the go-ahead for the defense department to do psychedelic medical clinical trials to treat active duty military and veterans.

>> i can personally attest to the benefits and treating posttraumatic stress through the use of psychedelic substances. as a stigma within the body and i believe stems from lack of education experience clinical use of psychedelic medications. it is not about legalization, it's not about recreational use, is honoring our promised military families confronting high incidence of suicide in the military and veteran community. we have a crisis in the idea we wouldn't research potential breakthrough treatments is unacceptable. the status quo is in adequate. >> this is just the latest sign using psychedelics to treat a variety of conditions is becoming more mainstream. from elon musk who earlier this year confessed to micro dosing ketamine to manage depression. to prince harry who used psychedelics to deal with grief and trauma from his mother princess diana's death. to nfl quarterback aaron rodgers

who touted the benefits to his mental health. >> one of the tenets of your mental health. that's what it did for me, work on my mental health and to have an experience like that. >> a lot of good points made. i want to go to you, joey jones. you served our nation. i think a lot of people on the surface will look at this and say well, this is so different, i don't know i can accept this, what you think people should know? >> people see this and think you're trying to get high, doing lsd or something and it's about an out of body experience and recreational way. the first thing like morgan sa said, this is not recreational and the other thing, if we assign prozac, zoloft and different synthetic drugs and

think it's okay and acceptable but you don't want to try the medicine that's worked for lawyers in this world for thousands of years, there's a whole array in each psychedelic or mdma affects the brain different. there's everything from what's legal in the country, religious exemption or hiawatha to going to another country and do something -- a tree bark that's very, a rough show but what this does is allows you to confront suppressed memories. the best way to explain, i was on an ied blast, the guy beside me died. it's probably back in the head, it bothers me. what happens with the hallucinogen, i may have him sit across the table with me and have a combination with him while i am listening but what's really happening is my mind is being challenged to confront the suppressed memory and work through it so what he says back to me is what i already have in my mind, i'm not allowing myself

to think through it and that's how the treatment is supposed to work and i can tell you, personally, i know dozens of veterans who have gone through it and the reason why people are so passive about it, many veterans will do it once, one time and it gets them to a better place they don't need to do it again and is not recommended to do it over and over. take a pill bottle everyday the va is fine with that but god forbid you go to a tree retreat and somebody does it with you and use nature's medicine and baby get through it. >> doctor saphier, there are a lot of people in the medical community suggesting this might work, is it worthy of testing in the military? >> joey did it excellent job of laying out to understand and he's right, psychedelic drugs have been used for decades. they were used for ptsd, tbi until 1985 when the fda put restrictions on. since then we have normal research on the use of psychedelics but with the research we do have, it showed promise when it comes to

treating ptsd. tbi as well as stroke and other things. when we talk about the devastating this specifically in our military, ptsd, when you look at standard treatment, ssri psychotherapy, less than 40% seek full permission. that's not where we want to be when we try to treat service members. the limited studies we do have, psychedelics different than ssri and they have shown great benefit over the 5% of people seeing a benefit. this is not about recreational use, it's not about you give a pill bottle to these veterans and they do it on their own. they do it in controlled situations in collaboration with psychotherapy and there is huge promise. one of the big concerns i have, there was a study earlier this year that showed from the nih alone, we waste about 100

million taxpayer dollars on money that goes to research and it's wasted on administrative blow or whatever it may be. it needs to be heavily regulated because veterans require access to quality healthcare and i don't want to see a penny of this go to waste. >> one of the veterans other is represented "fox & friends", let's listen to him and the concerns out there. >> some of the problems so far getting this through, have been your product. the bureaucracy doesn't want to deal with it because it's edgy, difficult and it makes them do work so we will keep pushing it. >> what's your take on what he's saying? is scares a lot of people because they are called psychedelics, they think of the 60s. >> is a negative connotation since the 60s and people are afraid, afraid they don't want veterans to become an experiment, they don't want to see people experiment to on, they want this to be solid science and i think we know it

does help. my husband is a veteran wounded in afghanistan, i understand joey what you're saying because we have friends that have gone through similar treatment and it's changed their life. there's a whole array of treatments coming out that utilize the same psychedelics but they are treated differently, done in a different setting, more a medical setting and medicinal. we are not taking people to the mountains saying there's some mushrooms, go crazy. there is a method to how it's done and with all suicides we've been seeing especially the rise in suicide with veterans, we have to do everything. that i do believe and i think congressman crenshaw is right. we made a promise to them. they gave everything for us and we made a promise to them we would do the same and we need to. >> if it's done in a responsible way, make sure we are given the

and democrats want to take away gas stoves, nothing could be further from the truth. >> now it's furnaces. the big one keep things that heat our homes. the biden administration with new regulations to reduce greenhouse gas emissions but the new rules could mean of the 60% of people, they've got to get new furnaces in the home, that means spend money to save money. i know you've read up on this, this is incredibly interesting, what did you learn? [laughter] replacing your furnace in your home. >> i did have to do some action to understand the differences in what we are talking about so i'm going to break it down simply. this is simple math conversation so what they are saying, have to switch to more energy-efficient furnaces called condensing boilers which recycles heat as to non- condensing boilers which

don't. they are more energy efficient and much more expensive. anywhere from two to $7000 so they say by 2028, all of the furnaces need to be these condensing furnaces. that's fine but when you compare it to non- condensing furnaces which are less energy-efficient, they have less expensive from 1000 to 5000, that's a substantial difference when it comes to the american household especially with the way costs are so they said they are looking at everything and they think the energy savings once you put these in will save people $57 a year once they have this in on their energy bill. i said that $50 a year, you have to add a lot of those years to pay the difference. who's going to pay for it? what about people who can't afford to pay their heat? >> it doesn't just cause manufacturers, to never government relation to hurt

industry and this time the industry that produces, let's go through the list, we should have a graphic. water heaters, dishwashers, air conditioners, washing machines, refrigerators -- they are looking beyond that, things like dehumidifiers. battery chargers, all kinds of things we use in our homes under this green new deal initiative. i want to bring this other thing up, the number of things they are looking at. more than one tenth appliances or things we use in our home, 110 taken or proposed to crack down on how we find comfort. >> it's crazy, i was in detroit recently, the united autoworkers were out on strike. i'm talking to americans working on the line at the ford plant living paycheck to paycheck some of them and say this is insane,

we have inflation, we can't afford groceries, i go to the grocery store and i'm like, i cannot believe how much milk cost and how much meat has gone up. now they are telling us, hugh explained the wealth that we are going to have to replace our furnaces with high energy efficient appliances and it's like a war on our freedom and our ability to choose what's best for our families and the industry. you also brought up what it's going to cost for manufacturers. it's going to cost a lot and what does that and with? us losing jobs in america. >> jason, i want to go back to that montage we will show but they are saying republican's are making this up, it's not even a thing. look what they are doing and i want you to explain where they are coming from because they got 12 months now to figure this out and we know what will happen the next 12 to 15 months. twelve months to come up with proposals and stone reviewing

>> she brings this dog and she's sitting there eating and the dog is on the floor like you might drop your fork and wipe off in the dog rubbing on the ground right there. somehow they can get a note from the doctor that says they are to week to exist without this dog with them 24 hours a day. >> obviously we know people with certain disabilities, visual disabilities, hearing disabilities and others, service dogs have done tremendous things for them should has it gone too far? it seems to expand to people who just like their pooch on their lap. >> absolutely. on huawei the alligator, his problem is he's an alligator living in l.a. somebody who is blind and needs a service dog in a rich person who's got to have her fluffy sit on her lap and everybody gets experience that. >> my husband was blinded in afghanistan and he will say on completely blind, i'm just completely blind so when i'm not with him, he needs danny and you can see danny with him in this picture and danny is amazing. we give him a bath before he gets on a plane but i've got a bone to pick with joe rogan and there is danny as a puppy. it takes two years to train these dogs to get them to where they can be with the family. she's not a service dog, i think they popped up my little sheep who robbed our ribs of the dinner table. that's a dog you do not want to take on a plane but these dogs take two years to train before they give them -- there she is. before you take two years to train them and bring them to the veteran or somebody who is legally blind and they are the

eyes for that person, service dog and it is frustrating when people have dogs and they are not really meant for an actual service and they are just bringing them into restaurants and it gives every dog in that name. >> that's what joe rogan was talking about. an emotional support animal, there's no certification for that. as a matter of fact, there is no certification for any of his dog the government hands out license says this dog is certified to be a dog of service, emotional support so there are a dozen or more organizations out there, some rescue dogs and some take dogs in service and turn them into emotional support dogs, no standard across the country and if a dog is command train, is declared emotional support and you feel you are protected to take it anywhere. i see veterans over and over, they have symptoms of ptsd or depression and the work it takes to get to the root cause and

maybe get to a better place like our pharmaceutical companies do, goodwill people with these organizations want to treat the symptoms and a service dog so you don't get upset. programs with that's come through in the dogs becomes debilitating to come to the program and the responsibly of taking care of the dog and adds to the stress and anxiety and too many people are embracing the idea of having an emotional support dog without doing the research understanding pros and cons and who actually needs one could use one or benefit from want and who it makes their life worse. >> we need to make it clear between emotional support dogs and actual service dogs. >> servers dogs provide a service. >> emotional support or just a family pet. >> i'm okay with it. big weekend flops coming up next. stay tuned. ♪
