today because the secretary of homeland security, mr. mayorkas, apparently snapped out of it wait, there is like a gazillion people flooding into the country. and now they are announcing that there is an immediate need to build 17 miles of border wall in star county, texas because of illegal entry. now, this was initially announced in june. it's part of what joe biden though announced in his inauguration. essentially they are ending the diversion of border money from military projects and using actual money that congress appropriated for stuff like this. >> ainsley: yeah, the dhs, they posted this announcement. and outlining just where this construction would be in star county like you said, steve, it's part of a very busy border patrol sector, seeing very high illegal entry. 245,000 illegal entries have been recorded this fiscal year in the rio grande valley sector. that contains 21 of these counties. everyone was shocked when they
3:05 am
heard mayorkas say this. they say there is acute and need to construct physical roads in the vicinity of the border of the united states in order to prevent unlawful entries into the united states. that is a sharp contrast to the early days of this administration. >> brian: i think we are missing the whole story. this president who got in saying i'm going to use high tech and we don't need a wall. i'm going to change these horrible policies has now found out that his policies are terrible. and it's caused the biggest collapse on our border in history. not building the barrier is not going back to the viking age. it is absolutely necessary. the thing was last month we found out selling the wall that we paid for as taxpayers for pennies on the dollar because the senate was beginning to move on forcing the construction of that wall. now, mayorkas is admitting that he is building just 20 miles of that wall. just 20 miles. so that's going to be in desperate areas of texas eagle pass area. but it should be 500 miles.
3:06 am
here's what he said -- look at all that all of that wall that should be standing, helping our border patrol and our country, instead of pure political political reasons. is he selling it off in order not to be forced to build it. here is what he said in 2020, remember. >> trump campaigned on build that wall. are you willing to tear that wall down? >> no. there will not be enough foot of wall constructed on my administration. >> brian: lawrence, totally wrong. now he has got to build it. he has a secretary of state in mexico city. he has two mayors scrambling there. he has democratic governors criticizing him. he has no choice. >> lawrence: brian, that was during campaign season. now we are at another campaign season and now because it's become an election issue, they are altering their position on it.

20 miles of road is a joke in the state of texas. they know the terrain that we have here on the border? it's clear that the president has not visited the border because he would know that if they only put 20 miles there, that the cartel is only gonna redirect the migrants that go to a different direction. so, again, i think it is for appearance only to show hey, i am trying to do something, but at the end of the day, 20 miles of border is not gonna solve the crisis that's at the southern border. why doesn't he not answer? why wouldn't he sell the information as well as all the technology, as well as all the border fencing to the state of texas when we tried to buy it when it had already been paid for by u.s. taxpayers. again, this has not only been a president that has been asleep at the wheel on this issue, but he has been quite divisive as well. when texas tries to do the security ourselves. >> ainsley: a little too late. millions and millions have come through. come over the border in the last three years since he has been

when you have got over 8 million people who have entered our country illegally since biden got in office, which, by the way is more than the population of 38 states, we have some real issues that are face are our country. you are seeing debates going on about how to move forward on that. i'm proud to say that, you know, as republicans this year alone we have addressed that hr 1 looking at energy production and increasing. it ie getting rid of some of the ridiculous taxes and regulations holding our country back with hr 2. we need to force this administration to do its job and force the agencies to do their job. we need to build a wall. we need to stop people coming into our country illegally. and then we also looked at something like the range act. something i pushed forward, which looks at regulations and the fact that we had $200 billion more regulations under biden's first year and a trillion more. you need relief and that's what republicans are trying to bring to the table. >> lawrence: congressman, there was a lot of debate about the appropriations bills and returning to remembering order. why wasn't congress been able to

return to the way we used to do things? >> well, when i first started. we did it that way. we did appropriations under open rules, all 12 bills came up. we voted all night long sometimes. it's a lot of work. but people just have to be prepared to do it. but, i agree with beth. we reflect the country. people elect us, we represent our districts. if we are divided, appear divided in congress, it's because the country is divided now. a good president would bring people together rather than split them apart. unfortunately, this administration has been focused on splitting people apart. i have never seen the number of labor strikes going on at one time that we have now. do you need any better proof that bidenomics is not working for the average american? >> lawrence: real quickly, congressman, who are you going to vote for in this speaker's race? >> steve scalise. >> lawrence: what about you congresswoman. >> steve scalise and kevin hern
