we begin this hour with the war on israel, more than 600 israelis, 600 r, are now dead as israel's cabinet officially approves the declaration of war for the first time since 1973. hamas officials say they will release number of soldiers and civilians they captured during the deadliest atack on the country in decades. >> israeli defense forces going after forces. hezbollah officials are pledging guns and rockets to hamas after claiming responsibility for an attack in the golan heights. >> also this morning, in egypt, at least two israelis at their egyptian tour guide were shot and killed in alexandria. the suspected assailant, an

egyptian police officer was detained. the foreign ministry says another israeli citizen was injured in the you attack. welcome to the final hour of "fox & friends" where we're joined by gilad erdan, the ambassador to the u.n. here on the couch with us in new york. happy to have you with you this morning. obviously our thoughts, our prayers with your entire nation. what can you tell us this morning is the latest of what's happening in israel? >> thank you for having me. these are devastating days for all israelis and as you showed your viewers, the numbers are unfathomable. i mean, we're -- we experienced an unpr dented attack -- unprecedented attack during our you jewish holiday, on the jewish sabbath. hundreds of israeli civilians were butchered in the streets, grandparents were -- and the elderly were taken, dragged from their homes into gaza, mothers
6:03 am
with their babies, sometimes only the babies were taken hostage. it's really unfathomable. unfathomable. and 600 -- i hope everyone understands, 600 fatalities in israel, pro force nailly, is like -- pro p proportionally lie having 20,000 american fatalities, 20,000 people who are being butchered, massacred by these savage terrorists. it's our 9/11. we should all understand it. it's our 9/11 and from today on things will never be in israel as they were. but we are strong. we are a resilient people. we've gone through hardships an we will win also this war. we will prevail. >> ambassador, you just put that into a really interesting perspective. so the equivalent of 20,000 americans. your 9/11. and we fought back after our 9/11. what do you think when you hear
6:04 am
a democratic congressman in this country, ilhan omar, say it's time for a cease fire. >> i'm not going to comment directly to ilhan omar. i said many times in the past what i think about the squad and their anti-semitic views. we're not going to listen to anyone right now. we are fighting for our people. today we have the security council of the t u.n. that wille convened. we expect everyone, those that support the democratic values, liberal values, that we expect all of them to support israel, to condemn explicitly hamas and to say that they support 100% our right to defend ourselves. we don't want any lectures you , explaining how to do it, what means to use. we are going to use every means at our disposal. because you know what? we are fighting exactly like you fought against isis or against
6:05 am
al-qaida. these barbaric terrorists have the same ideology. we should all understand who is hamas. they're not looking to compromise or have dialogue with israel. they're looking to annihilate the one and only jewish state. the charge is very loud and clear, you should butcher every guljew that you meet. that's what they did during the holiday, like they did during the holocaust. hundreds of kids, babies, our daughters are missing. there are so many people who are still missing and we are now -- you know, we are committed now to prevent these atrocities from happening again and we will do it. >> do you believe you'll get that support from both the current administration in the united states and the u.n.? you look at the u.n., the amount of resolutions they passed that focus on israel, condemning israel. do you really believe they'll
6:06 am
coalesce at this moment? will you have the space necessary to get the retribution that israel needs. >> i'm not naive. i have been serving and representing israel at the u.n. for the last three years. i know all of the moral distortions of the u.n. and the automatic majority against israel but today we expect everyone and first and foremost the free world, the democratic world, israel is at the forefront of fighting terrorism, fighting radicalism. we can all see the terrible pictures coming from israel every day. so i'm naive. but i hope that this time they will all understand what needs to be done and that is full support, full backing to the state of israel and our fight against terrorism, exactly as we were all united to back and support the free world, the democratic world when we all needed to eliminate isis.
6:07 am
because we realized they want to annihilate us, our way of living, our values. that's what we are facing now in israel coming from gaza. >> so you'll be asking for full support for what needs to be done in your words. so whats does need to be done? >> it's a very tough and hard question because obviously i cannot share our military's plan on tv. we don't want them to be prepared. but as you said and i believe everyone understands, that we don't want to hear these calls to restrain, for restraint, for calm of both sides. we keep hearing these. it's coming basically from the u.n. and the u.n.'s leadership, these immoral equation between the barbaric terrorists, these -- those who you a attacked us d israel, the democratic, the only democracy, liberal democracy in
6:08 am
the middle east that is defending its civilians from these barbaric terrorists. we don't want to hear these calls. we're not going to listen to them. we're going to use every means at our disposal in order to obliterate, fully obliterate the terrorist infrastructure of hamas and this time it must happen because it's about our existence. it's about our future. our future as the one and only jewish state in the world in the middle east. surrounded bye enemies. >> it's unfathomable, the trump administration, you were there on that beautiful sunny day, september 15th, 2020, when we had peace accords coming since 1996, first time since 1996 and now we're we are september of 2023, a much different story. trtrey on the ground in israel. >> reporter: the israelis preparing for a ground operation into gaza, we've seen lines of tanks headed towards the gaza
6:09 am
border. behind me i want to show you israeli artillery unit here staging, excellence have been flowing in this direction over the past several hours. they're on high spirits despite the trauma that this country has experienced because they are prepared for this moment. it is so difficult to describe what israel has gone through over the past two days. simply a massacre against civilians, the death toll acording to israeli media has now reached 600 people, both civilians and soldiers. they're starting to publish the names of those killed. but these troops say they are ready to do what they are told, they are ready to conduct any operation needed to ensure the safety of the jewish state. today, though, israel is facing a multi-front consistent forensic. the worst case scenario starting to take place. we saw hundreds of thousands of israeli reserve troops called
6:10 am
up, rocket fire from the militant group hezbollah taking responsibility and israel striking back in the north. so very quickly this is turning into what looks like a regional conflict. israel today declaring a formal declaration of war and we do expect days and likely weeks of fighting. back to you. >> all right, thank you, trey. stay with us, trey, if you'd like. i like to point out something that you brought up to the ambassador. you heard trey this is now spilling over, looks to be soon spilling over to a regional conflict. so much of your message has been for the international community, for the united nations. i'm curious what your message would be for your regional neighbors like saudi arabia. there's been a lot of progress made towards peace with saudi arabia. obviously this is a curve ball, a proverbial curve ball in the situation. what would you say to saudi arabia. >> i would tell them, again, to remember their new values that they tried to adopt.
6:11 am
i mean, mohammad bin sal man, he was interviewed for fox, he with everyone his will to advance peace with israel. it's very easy to understand that iran, the biggest danger to the future of the free world doesn't want to see normalization, peace agreement between saudi arabia, maybe the most important country in the suni arab world an and israel. by freezing the normalization with israel, they're just allowing -- they would allow iran, their biggest enemy, the radical shiite empire that want to impose radical ideology upon all of us, they will allow them to win so we hope we all understand that iran is also trying to derail the chances of achieving peace but to our other neighbors, it's a different story obviously, saudi arabia, because they want to advance peace with israel.
6:12 am
lebanon today, there's no such a country, lebanon. lebanon, it's a facade. they are being fully controlled by hezbollah. hezbollah is an iranian proxy. as i said, we are determined. we will do whatever is needed to win the war against gaza, against hamas. we asked many countries to convey a clear message to the lebanese government. we would see them fully responsible for every attack that will be initiated against israel. we hope that we won't need to deal and fight on another front but if we will have to do it, we will win as well. we did it in the past. we will do it this time again. but i hope it won't happen. the gaza -- the main front now, the primary front is the front against hamas, which as i said we are committed to obliterate their terrorist infrastructure. >> we're just getting news as
6:13 am
well from our secretary of state, ant antony blinken, he's reporting several americans were killed as well. >> i know there are dozens of americans, israeli american, holding american citizenship who are held hostage in gaza. dozens. >> does that mean they were looking for americans? you said dozens of israeli and americans. >> yes, there are many israelis who have american identity, citizenship. we still -- you know, we don't have all the names yet. we're still working to get all of the names of the missing people, civilians, soldiers, but as i said, dozens are americans and there's one thing, again, that we need to keep in mind. because after guardian of the wolves, we fought in gaza only two years ago and i remember
6:14 am
after the last war in gaza, which where the world put a lot of pressure on israel to stop and, yeah, we stopped before we obliterate -- fully obliterated the hamas terrorist capabilities and the whole world went there, secretary blinken, the u.n., they spoke a lot about the need to rehabilitate gaza and let me make it clear again. the rehabilitation of gaza or any economic incentives are useless with the radical ideology of like isis and al-qaida and hamas, you cannot change their radical ideology with economic inse incentives. you need to exact a heavy price of the perpetrators, that's what we need to do and we will do it. >> ambassador, dozens of american hostages, that's stunning and what comes to mind is former president trump criticizing the biden hostage deal with iran saying it would lead to more hostages, and now we're learning dozens of american hostages. a question for you, the $60
6:15 am
billion of assets with iran that -- 6 billion, excuse me. they say it's more like 60 bill 60 ido60billion when you considc theignored oil sanctions. the biden administration says it wasn't connected with this attack. your thoughts on this. >> we have fundamental disagreements with the current administration. this is not the time for us now to express and criticize the administration. we get full support until now from the administration to do whatever is needed in gaza but for the future we should all remember money is fungible. money is fin fungible. you can't make sure that money that is trans ford the hands of terrorists will remain only and be used only for humanitarian needs. it's naive to believe so. >> i fully respect information
6:16 am
is coming in and some of it cannot be released. that's stark information you shared with us about dozens of americans being held hostage. can you tell me, are there to your knowledge americans among the 600 reported fatalities? >> i don't know yet. we are still -- it's not responsible to answer right now. >> do you know how many children were among? >> many. >> m? many?>> you'll be at the emergey security council meeting today. you talked about iran. none of this happens without the blessing of iran, the support of iran. >> we saw the pictures of the leadership of hamas going to iran and they had a meeting with the butcher of tehran, president race. >.>> what's your message to ira? >> my message to iran is very clear. by the way, we are the only country in the world today that
6:17 am
is striking iranian forces and maly shas in syria -- militias in syria because we know their plan, their strategy. they want to surround israel with terror arr armies like ham, like hezbollah, the palestinian islamic you jihad and at the end of the day they want to acquire nuclear capabilities in order to supply them with a nuclear umbrella. their long-term plan is to, again, to you annihilate the one and only jewish state. we are their first goal. they cause death to israel, death to america. you we are the small satan, are you the big satan. their message is very clear. we had wars in the past. we've gone through hardships. we are a resilient people and we will prevail. we will win and we will win this time as well. israel a is a very strong powerful country and we will do
6:18 am
whatever we are forced to do. >> just quickly, your family is in ashkalan. are they okay. >> yes, thank god they are okay. my parents are 76 years old. they need to run dozens of time every day to their shelter and i hope everyone here understands the reality that we are facing in israel. >> you're in our prayers. >> thank you so much for sharing that reality with us this morning. >> thank you, ambassador. >> god bless. still ahead, israel striking back against hamas targets in gaza after the deadly invasion into the nation. >> general jack keane assesses the long-term strategy, next. feeling sluggish or weighed down? could be a sign that your digestive system

a fox news alert. hezbollah and fellow terrorists in hamas pummeling israel with rockets, killing hundreds of israelis and taking innocent women, children and soldiers hostage. defense forces hitting back, evacuating the gaza strip as it gets ready for a counter offensive in the area. fox news senior strategic analyst, retired four star
6:23 am
general jack keane joins us once again. thank you for being here. p i don't know if you heard the news from israel's ambassador to the u.n. that he shared with us. he said amangs the hostages there are dozens of israeli american hostage as well. he said all of this complicates their offensive greatly. whthey look at a coming counter offenses and hostages and hezbollah in the north, how do they balance it? >> certainly, i don't think necessarily it was selecting americans -- am-jews living in e area as hostages. they were sweeping up civilians to use as leverage which is something iranians pay testimony to on a regular basis. obviously the situation has an added degree of complexity to it. the israelis certainly are about restoring their border and
6:24 am
restoring their sovereign integrity because there's still fighting taking a place in israel itself at the same time as trey is accurately reporting they're beginning to build up their forces to conduct as you're accurately describing it a counter offensive to go into gaza. i think when they commenced this operation, it's likely to be a little different than the ones in the past, pete, because in the past they tried to get in and get out as quickly as possible, make a run to the coastline where a lot of the missiles and storage facilities are, destroy as much of that as possible to take out as much of the leadership as possible, and get out. i would imagine if their intent is to really decimate hamas and take it down as a terrorist army that continues to prey on them, they have to occupy he it.
6:25 am
it's not about a single military operation in and out. they've got to go in there and spend some time doing it as we have had to do, dealing with terrorist operations, specifically ourselves, in iraq, afghanistan and in syria. but what the ambassador said, i mean, it was compelling and gripping, his description of what happened to the israeli people and you can feel the passion that he has as a red li-- as aresult of it and the c. he's reflecting the commitment of the president and prime minister. they're going to be committed to the destruction of this organization. nothing less is going to be satisfactory to them, i believe. he provided that testimony very clearly to us. >> no doubt. general, you've shared a lot of insight about the capabilities of hezbollah in the north. they're even more capable than hamas. if it becomes an occupation or extended ground invasion into
6:26 am
gaza with israeli forces, does that likely bring hezbollah into the picture, even more capable and multiple fronts? >> yeah, well, they say it does. and it remains to be seen. i think there's a lot of leverage politically to put on them, not to do that, and hopefully that will have some success. but i think what the israelis are really focusing on, and they certainly are not going to ignore the complications of hezbollah and the sophistication that organization has. just as a footnote, i mean, had in the last year alone the israelis have conducted 200 air strikes into syria to prevent hezbollah from establishing missile bases which could rain on israel from another location other than just north of israel. they've actually taken out warehouses at the damascus international airport where the iranians fly the missiles in, store them in a warehouse and
6:27 am
put them on trucks and drive them over into lebanon. that ob operation i'm confident they feel very good about now because it's reduced obviously hezbollah's reach into israel from multiple locations but i think what israel is focused on, pete, once and for all we've got to deal with hamas and while there are extenuating circumstances that could complicate the situation, hostages are certainly one of them, the expansion of hezbollah from the north, other possibilities with syria as well, i think they're going to have a singular f focus here and go after the hamas organization entirely. >> you have clearly stated the main objective which has been rule nateing for a -- ruminating for a long time. they went in a couple years ago and didn't finish the job. if there was ever an opportunity it would be now. thank you so much. >> great talking to you.
6:28 am
>> still ahead, joe biden offers verbal support as critics blast the administration for empowering israel's enemies. former national security advisor in , next. to pray with me reak . in the name of the father and son, holy spirit. amen. lord jesus, come to us now. help us to surrender ourselves completely to you. help us to listen to your voice. even when we're distracted or tired, we pray this in the name of the father and of the son of the holy spirit. amen. thank you so much. i just want to encourage you that if you want to join me in more prayer, check out hallow it's the number one prayer app in the world.

6:33 am
walking the halls of the west wing, one of the things i heard often is ambassador o'brien is the preeminent hostage negotiator responsible for freeing so many americans. what would you do right now if you knew dozens of americans were held hostage. >> we have to return with strength. that starts with mobilizing our military elements, jsoc, we have hostage r rescue teams in specil forces. they need to be shipped immediately and fly to israel to prepare to rescue american citizens. we need the fbi hostage team deployed to israel. i recommended this last night to save israelis, we need to do it to save americans now. we're not paying a billion dollars per hostage like we did last week. there's a correlation between taking americans hostage and ransom payments. that has to end. we need to get american service men who are trained to rescue
6:34 am
hostages we need them on the ground in israel right away. >> our former boss, former president trump made the point that payment of hostages in the iranian deal would lead to more hostages. september 11th was that deal and here we are weeks later. >> i'm not surprised unfortunately because we saw what happened. will: the jcpoa where we paid millions of dollars for hostages then they took money and used it to support terrorists. this happened very quickly. the president of iran showed up at the u.n. just two weeks ago and from the podium threatened to kill u.s. officials and there wasn't a peep heard in response to that comment. so the iranians, they got 6 billion for five men hostages. their president came to new york and threatened americans on u.s. soil and why did we think they had agreen light to run an opern
6:35 am
like this. there are american sit suns held. we need to rescue them, bring them home. we need to let the hamas know the united states doesn't put up with that nonsense. >> the west wing was abuzz. we learned about the peace accords and you stood at the white house podium and it was a joe just, happy moment. how did we get here just three short years later? >> kaley, you know this. peace with streng isn't a sloga. when you're tough with adversaries and they respect you, peace results. we had peace in kosovo and peace in serbia with the economic normalization there. we had the abram accords which was -- s abraham accords that ws historic. that was a result of america being strong. when adversaries see we're weak and our friends and allies see that we're weak, this is what happens.
6:36 am
we have a world in chaos. that's what we're facing right now. it's an incredibly sad situation. it happened so quickly. >> it has. the biden administration acknowledged iran does support its proxy, hamas, they say they are not clear whether they knew about this specific attack. your thoughts on this. >> there's no way this sophistication took place without the iranians helping. whether they knew the exact timing i don't know. my guess is hamas, which is a puppet of t tehran like hezbollh to the north and the syrian regime are part of the iranian regime. iran is behind this. iran was involved in the planning. there's no question about it. iran would certainly have given the go-ahead. this is bigger than just a terrorist organization in israel. by the way, i want to say, our hearts go out to the israeli people.

america's greatest ally in the mideast under attack and as congress remains at a standstill without a speaker, this could impact how quickly we send any support they need. >> sunday morning anchor -- sunday morning futures anchor maria bartiromo joins us now. maria, great to see you this morning. what do you think about the domestic political situation, what we saw take place last week and potential impact on the news of t weekend. >> look, i think the plan is in place to have the speaker debate on tuesday and then a vote on wednesday. so that is happening. will it create an a expedited process? i think the process is expedited already and once again, it will reinforce the need to unify in the republican party. i mean, the truth is, is that the administration has plenty of authority right now to transfer
6:42 am
weapons, to create more humanitarian aid for israel. the question is, what will happen in the coming days? what will happen as the palestinians start trotting out dead bodies and calling for cease fire, will the administration encourage israel to stop? will the administration continue its position of supporting israel like they are saying? so we'll be watching takes place in the coming days. if there was a direct impact on america, then of course the white house would likely give a briefing to the temporary speaker, patrick mchenry right now. so far, there has been no special briefings for the gang of eight which of course includes the speaker of the house, which right now there is none, at the top. but the expedited process is in place. i think right now it's being talked about as more of a need to unify on the republican side, to ensure that our number one ally in the middle east, israel,
6:43 am
feels supported in every way, whether it's diplomatically, whether it's the need for weapons or humanitarian efforts as well. so that is going on and we will likely know soon enough where the speaker race takes us next week. if there is not enough votes for either jim jordan or steve scalise, then maybe i'm wrong, but we'll see next week how that plays out, the expedited process is in place. we're talking about this this morning when i speak with arkansas senator tom cotton. he's going to make the point this morning about all of that, what happens next, what do we need to see from the administration in order to continue showing support. we will get into the speaker's race when i speak with congressman jim jordan, chairman of the judiciary committee is of course one of the lead people in terms of become being the next speaker of the house. steve scalise as well. we'll talk about that with jim jordan. he is also going to make the point of the administration's

6:45 am
comment. i was reading the train script transcript ofthe interview. it was an credible interview. as we are learning more about who is being held hostage, including americans, it is more important than ever that the administration make a comment about this, explain to the world what its next move is and again, the response from the administration is critical. what will they be saying in the next couple days? what will they say in the coming week as the palestinians try to put pressure for a cease fire to stop israel at this point after the palestinians provoked this, unprovoked attack on israel. i think this takes the level of importance and a takes the level of the u.s.'s involvement here up to another level. so that is one of the key issues, also what you spoke with john ratcliffe about in terms of how we got here and the appeasement of this administration from day one on iran, and iran's proxies, will also be front and center now
6:46 am
that we are learning that there are actual americans right now being held hostage as as well. >> extraordinary development, maria. one quick question for you, back to the house speaker race. i see byron donalds, marjorie taylor greene among others. you're right to say the administration has a lot they can do without the legislature. but there's certain bills voted down by democrats, there was a party line vote, 217 democrats voting against a bill to sanction financial supporters of hamas, my point being, republicans should bring up this legislation in wake of the most recent attacks. do you think this causes them to unify around a speaker this week? >> i do. i think that we're seeing the process get expedited, we're seeing a lot of conversations saying, look, we need to unify now more t ever, this is underlying the issue. the fact that we can't talk about the gang of eight getting an p intelligence briefing right now in terms of what's really going on is extraordinary. we need to have leadership in
6:47 am
place on the republican side in order to ensure that they're getting the briefings that they need and you mentioned the financial as expect of this. i just want to point out that the markets will be reacting to this come monday morning, tomorrow morning. you're seeing that impact play out across the middle east, selloffs across the board, whether it be in israel or other middle eastern markets so you're seeing a financial impact on that score as well. obviously not as important as what we're talking about today with a hostage situation and hundreds dead. >> maria, we'll be watching the program. thank you so much for joining us. >> thank you. >> i'm going to share with you guys, pete brought up the -- i tweeted out a few moments ago what the u.n. as ba am a bass dd us. it was tweeted out that they would expect special ops command to be deployed as soon as

it's really unfathomable,

unfathomable, and 600 -- i hope everyone understands, 600 fatalities in israel, proportionally is like having here 20,000 american fatalities. 20,000 people who are being butchered, massacred by these savage terrorists. it's our 9/11. >> per capita comparison made by israel's u.n. ambassador a few moments ago on "fox & friends," putting the mass numbered of victims as 600 so far, revealing it's hitting home in the most grave way. >> i know that there are dozens, dozens, okay, of americans, israeli americans, they're holding american citizenship who are held hostage now in gaza. >> dozens? >> dozens. >> wow. >> former state department

spokesperson morgan ortagus joins us now. that statement we heard a few moments ago, at least those of us in the studio felt like while it shouldn't have been surprising, yesterday i was beginning to wonder how many among the dead are americans, and that's an open question among the dead. it does sort of -- even though unsurprising, changes the equation, doesn't it, especially with the biden administration. >> well, we know that terrorists attacked our best friend, most loyal partner in the middle east. we also know this is a rough estimate but about 200,000 israelis -- or americans that could be dual citizens or americans living in israel so like you said it should not be a surprise, even on 9/11 when thousands of americans were killed, there were plenty of people of other national at thises that were in the mix as well. so we should have seen an attack on our strongest ally in the middle east as an attack on us. because this is what the

perpetrators, the founders, the aiders of hamas, whichs is the islamic republic of iran, this is what they say. we need to listen to what they say. they want to wipe the state of israel off the map, when they chant death to israel, they also chant death to america so it should be no surprise to this administration especially that the islamic republic of iran who is actively trying to kill former trump administration officials in america on american soil, it should surprise no one that the same regime plotted to kill americans and israelis in israeli territory yesterday. >> what does the biden administration do? the optics of american citizens, american passport holders being held hostage inside of gaza, congressman michael waltz tweeted in response to that news that special operations command, american special operations command should be on the way to israel if that's true. whether or not that's the call to action, joe biden i can't help but think back to

the '70s and you iranian hostage crisis, you know, joe bidens has to do something if americans are stuck, being held hostage in gaza. >> that is a very eerie and striking parallel that you gave. i agree with you there. and we will see what comes of it in terms of if it's just americans dead or actually held hostage, mathematically, with how small israel is and how many americans are there, it's almost impossible but we'll let the authorities say either way. first of all, i would say the strong words yesterday from biden and some democrats were nice but words are not enough. they have to say if they give a strong statement and say the right thing, that means they can done the right thing, saying the right thing and doing the right thing are different things. this administration has to admit to themselves that their policies of appeasement has ben

afailure and led to conditions on the ground for what happened yesterday. they haven't enforced sanctions, they gave them $6 billion. iran is billions of dollars richer because the administration did not enforce the sanctions and they gave the money to hamas. >> i'm sorry, i'm up against a hard break. to your point, understanding iran's role illustrates the failure of this administration. always thank you for your time this morning. we'll be right back. >> thank you.
