mentioned to come together to find a speaker? >> you know what? i wish it would. but i have no confidence that these eight folks will do that they have personally put their political wants and needs above the interest of the country. everyone is frustrated with congress. i changed my life to come here to be a member of congress because the system itself is dysfunctional. but this is no way to try to correct the system by destroying it. they have no plan in place to get a speaker in and we are essentially paralyzed until we get a speaker. so, i would encourage these eight folks that sided with the 208 democrats to put the country's interest above their own, read the constitution and the rules of the house so we can get on with the nation's business and try to help our allies in israel. >> carley: thank you so much for joining us this morning. we appreciate it? >> you bet. >> carley: all right. >> steve: and that is where we stand on this monday morning. bebb gentleman minute hall joins us right now from our european news room with the very latest. benjamin? >> lawrence, steve, brian, ainsley good morning. still there right at the front seeing more of those rockets coming in from gaza. what we are also hearing is in the last couple of hours the israeli defense forces have finally retaken all the towns along the gazan border. about two days that some of these hamas terrorists have managed to hold on to some of these towns. we know for a while they were controlling villages and going door to door and killing families. some of the images coming out of those villages simply horrific. we also heard the israelis have now completely blockaded gaza. and the israeli defense forces come out with a statement saying that they have ordered a complete blockade of the gaza strip. they have even said that there will be no electricity, no food, no fuel, everything is closed. we are fighting human animals

and we will act accordingly. but the next step is going to be very, very difficult. and that's because of all the prisoners, the hostages that are being held right now by hamas there are at least 100 people, including women, including children, toddlers, elderly people, being held captive inside gaza, inside the tunnels. you see some of the images of them and you can imagine the operosities that they are seeing right now. what this does is add a different complication to the next step. we know there are 100,000 israeli forces getting together. they are planning on going into gaza if is very complicated because of the prisoners being held right now. in the past in hamas took israeli prisoners they would do exchange. in 2007. exchange 1,000 for one israeli soldier. hamas now has around 100, maybe over 100. including some americans. so it does look like a prisoner exchange for the moment. t. is not going to happen. instead israel has said it is going to go in and anile a late

how best it can but it's going to be difficult for a while the israelis have stayed out of gaza. despite all of the rocket attacks over the last few years, they knew how dangerous it is to go into gaza. that's because they know it will be full of booby traps. they will be facing an urban fight and so now finally they have decided they have to do it. one of the big issues i think on bakinger scale is perhaps whether iran was involved. we know iran supports hamas it. gist them weapons 2 trains them and gives them money. what we heard earlier today from the "wall street journal" was that they have that they have evidence that hamas and hesitate ba lat they met in beirut on monday and gave the green light for this attack to go ahead. "wall street journal" said officer of iran's islamic revolutionary guard corps had worked with hamas since august to i do advise the air, land and sea incursions the most significant breach of israel's

borders since the 1973 yom kippur war. those people said. if that is confirmed and yesterday secretary blinken said there was no intelligence the u.s. had yet though he did acknowledge that the iran ranses were supporting hamas, that opens up a different sen march joy. may need to retaliate against iran for the death of 700, maybe more of its own citizens. if that happens we could see hezbollah come down from the south. they have stayed back from the moment. they have launched some rockets but into very unpopulated areas they haven't entered popular. this is on the border and fear this could escalated into a regional dramatic war. for now the focus is getting in. saving those hostages and annihilating hamas as best as they can. getting rid of all military places. this isn't going to be days it's going to be months ahead change the policies towards them. last few years more gazans coming out of gaza. the 20,000 a day. things were considered to perhaps be getting better.
3:06 am
that's been reversed. the policy moving forward is going to be a district and a stern one. and so we wait to see exactly how that is going to play out. >> ainsley: i know four americans confirmed dead what about hostages? he said a dozen of them could be being held inside quaz. that did come from the israelis. they are saying there are some americans being held. yes. >> steve: jonathan, you had the good news that the israeli army has regained control of those communities along the gaza area that has been controlled by hamas. that's really good news. but now today what has happened in the last hour or so is you have hamas firing these rockets deep inside of israel. they are not content just to be along the border. now they are aiming at the capital. they are aiming at verizon and tel aviv as retaliation for the strikes on the people's houses
3:07 am
in the hamas areas. that just changes everything. >> yeah. hamas completely committed now to a fullout war. they said so about 50 days ago. they said they were preparing for a fullout war. the israelis maybe not enough attention was paid to that. they are going to launch everything they have go. they are ready for urban warfare street to street. those rockets they keep firing. we see some of the stronger range rockets as well until a few years ago they didn't have. it's thought that iran helped build and provide those rockets. those rockets can reach jerusalem and tel aviv. that's why this is so frightening. the iron dome system is very effective it blocks out about 80% of them. trey in the last 10 minutes posted a video showed the rockets still landing where he is that's one of the reasons why the israelis are going in. they know there are military factories. they continue to build rockets, they continue to build them. they build them in schools and hospitals. and that's why it's going to be

so difficult for the israelis to move in and to try to annihilate the terrorists while trying to protect the civilians in there. >> brian: by the way, trey going to join us. he needs a little bit of rest he will join us later in the show. benjamin, what is so interesting is they had these meetings according to the "wall street journal" in beirut where hezbollah is located. everyone is wondering will this be a two front war. what will it take for hezbollah to get involved. they it had squirmishes in disputed areas. you have to think if they were able to plan in detail the initial attack did they anticipate the reaction and is hezbollah plotting and planning when to come in? >> well, it's interesting. because yes, we have seen some rockets come from southern lebanon but they haven't targeted you had any of the populated areas yet. the message from hezbollah they are in. seeing whether israel are l. reach tout iran. if that happens you can expect hezbollah to come in a big way.
3:09 am
they have far more rockets than the hamas does. that really escalates things. right now hezbollah staying quiet for the moment. but that's another threat that iran has that hamas has. that hezbollah has. is they will come. they will escalate this if the israelis, you know, start to attack ever more. >> lawrence: benjamin i had an opportunity to talk to one of my friends in the idf he said the targets striking right now were already on israel's radar. when are they going to start attacking other targets and why didn't they not attack these targets before? >> you know, there has been a real balance recently. the israelis have been trying, you know, to hold back and they usually respond when hamas launches rockets. that's when they respond. they generally don't bomb, if there hasn't been any altercation. i think now they are realizing perhaps they held back. perhaps they should have been more involved in the past. big questions about how they didn't see this attack coming.
3:10 am
up to 1,000 of these hamas terrorists came across. that is not a small operation by land, by sea, by air. meetings that we are hearing from the "wall street journal" in beirut. and, yet, the israelis have said they had great signal intelligence. great human intelligence. and, yet, no warning at all about this. so, yes, the question will be asked, if a while, could more have been done? but right now the israeli focus is getting in, getting rid of the threat that is posed to them and straight away and obviously the questions will keep coming after that. one thing is certain that is israel is totally unified right now. in the past there was were concerns should they go over and escalate that? that ♪ being doubted right now. everyone i spoke to in israel from the political spectrum from the left to the right are unified. this is a terror threat and has to change. they see this as their 9/11 and they will not let it happen again is how they see it we expect them to go in and take out everything they can that has to do with hamas and their military capability. >> lawrence: is it true there was this perception it.
3:11 am
seemed like there was this perception that israel was the bully here. and so they held back some restraints there was some sort of intelligence that they saw them training but they didn't know the exact day they were going to attack or anything like that. israel held some restraint because in the world's eye there was this perception that they were the aggressors? >> yes. i mean, look, you look around the world. you look at how the u.n. responds forever and for many years israel has been the bullies here. they are the ones that have held gazans inside and surrounded by walls. but, the israelis have watched hamas train and mobilize constantly. they have constantly been aware of it. and now they won't be held back by what they would say the u.n. and many of these other groups say against them. this is their time to wipe out the evil. >> brian: thank you so much. that rowrnl report was astounding because it came out after antony blinken came out and says we have no idea, we have no proof or any word that
3:12 am
iran has anything to do with this when it turns out the al quds force leading meeting in beirut with hezbollah and hamas who really don't like each other sunnies and she a and they are meeting in beirut. you wonder this is happening over a series of weeks. some say april, some say august. at which time they plot and plan. they have hang gliders five different points of attack. pickup trucks, blow open the wall and come in and take over bases something that needs to have been rehearsed but there is no proof that it has been reinvestigatorsed before. you just wonder and here in america we could probably relate to this. if the distraction of their civic unrest in all the protests in the west bank had them focusing more in the west bank it means some in israel because of the judicial maneuvers they were just resign from the merlt distraction moves off gaza great opportunity to do something. >> ainsley: the stories were just horrific.
3:13 am
we all heard interviews with husbands or with family members. a dad this morning i heard an interview, is he missing his daughter. he was showing pictures his daughter. she was the one taken, begging for mercy at the music festival and her boyfriend was taken. and then i saw an interview with a husband. who his wife was in a back of a pickup truck and he was confirming the video was his wife. they were covering her head. and his two little girls. he was showing pictures of his children who had to have been 7 or 5 were taken as well and he can't find them. i saw pictures that are too graphic to show you this morning. >> steve: so bad. >> ainsley: bodies on top of each other covered in blood. everyone dead. >> steve: the israeli military posted that on x. formerly known as twitter. and they said you know, we thought about not showing it but the world should see exactly what kind of evil we are talking about. so to go back to the "wall street journal" article that talked about iran helped hamas for weeks and gave they say
3:14 am
yeah, we did it. apparently officers from the islamic revolutionary guard helped devise the land, air, and sea incursions. and while the united states says we don't have any evidence of that "wall street journal" apparently spoke to an adviser to the syrian government. iran involved in the lead up. the strike was intended to hit israel while it appeared distracted by internal political divisions over prime minister benjamin netanyahu's government. it was also aimed at disrupting accelerating u.s. brokered talks to normalize relations between saudi arabia and israel that iran saw as threatening. the senior hamas and hezbollah members told the "wall street journal." >> lawrence: if you are joining
3:15 am
the program you are looking at live pictures from gaza city as you can see the flames and smoke in the area. brian, i want to get your thoughts on this because i there is going to be a lot of evaluating when it comes to the administration. they have given the palestinian authority over $200 million in aid. of course the trump administration canceled that it looks like we were aware of the weapons land bring from tehran to beirut. this is where they were doing all these secret meetings as well. $6 million and the administration officials can push back and go back and forth about the money not being released they were examining this money. what type of criticism do you think that the administration is going to have now seeing all of their actions take place and now we see the first attack since yom kippur. >> they came in wanting to
3:16 am
reestablish aid to the palestinian authority even though they knew they were run by a terror organization hamas. they wanted to reestablish and hopefully get the nuclear talks back in action. to do that, they had to ease up on the sanctions and stop enforcing them. that's exactly what they did. their oil -- we were allowing them to make 400,000 barrels a day. now it's up to 3 million barrels a day. do you know how much money you get with that 6 billion was just the latest. this was part of two and a half years of kissing up to iran hoping to factor them into the world community while vilifying saudi arabia and calling them a pariah nation and then trying to get that back on track. meanwhile trey yingst is back with us today. i don't know when he sleeps but right now he is in the middle of this barrage that you are looking at the left side of our screen right now. trey, what is it like on the ground? >> yeah. it's very tense on the ground right now in southern israel. hamas and islamic jihad continue their rocket fire.
3:17 am
not only toward population centers along the border but also targeting major cities like jerusalem and tel aviv this morning. we were just in the city that sits two towns up from the gaza border. and hamas says they launched 150 rockets. and from what we saw that would be an accurate number. you could see israel's missile defense system the iron dome sending off their missiles trying to shootdown these rockets but the barrage was so large that they slipped past, slamming into buildings throughout the city. there was black smoke rises up from the sky. and as we were there we saw these interceptions and watched as firefighters and paramedics rushed towards these buildings looking for any survivors or anyone who was injured. right now we are headed closer to the gaza border where there are thousands of israeli soldiers tanks and a pcs they are preparing for a ground invasion at this hour. >> steve: ground invasion means all-out war. word to mark, the director in the control room.
3:18 am
can we run the little bit of sound that we ran at the top of this hour with trey yingst as incoming missiles were heading his way as as hamas started firing rockets deep inside of israel tel aviv and jerusalem? this is a little different than what we have seen in the past. if we have got that video, let's go ahead and show it? >> a huge rocket barrage just targeted the city of ash today. we saw multiple impacts across this heavily populated area we took cover. you see the rockets coming off the gaza strip and slamming into buildings in this community. >> steve: you mentioned a moment ago the iron dome is 80% effective. but they have only got so many iron dome rockets that they can fire up to defend the country. hamas is just shooting a bazillion things at them all over the place.
3:19 am
>> just to give you a sense of how many rockets have been fired since this round began, and i had to hesitate to call it a round. because we have covered many small wars between israel and gaza. this is the largest war that israel will face in decades. a massive, massive operation. and there is a reason for that in terms of the rockets. [broken audio] more than 45 rockets have been fired over the last 48 hours in the jewish state. just a comparison, during the war in 201, a war that lasted a 51 days there were 4500 rockets fired toward israel. so this is a huge, huge escalation by the factions inside gaza. and we have to remember how all of this started. it started on saturday morning, when israeli civilians were sleeping in their homes and hamas and jihadi militants more than a thousand of them crossed north of the border israel and
3:20 am
slaughtererred women and children. they bee headed soldiers they butchered bodies children and women. this is the reality on the ground and we can't look away from what has taken place. the war is just beginning. israel will enter gaza and according to the country's defense minister, no food will be going into gaza no. aid will be going into gaza. a total siege of the strip is about to take place. it will be a very violent and bloody battle. and it is expected to take weeks. the following days in israel are going to be incredibly challenging. >> ainsley: trey, several things, what do you make of the timing of this? i know that there was a holiday that the jewish people were celebrating. it was the last day of the holiday when this was happening. what do you make of the timing with the u.s.-led negotiations underway for this historic peace agreement between israel and saudi arabia? will that be jeopardized and also the airports there, do we have individuals trying to get out, trying to flee?
3:21 am
>> yeah. people are trying leave israel. and they have shut down a lot of the flights coming to the airport. the situation is changing each and every minute. even earlier today hamas tried to target the airport. so a lot of the major american carriers and european carriers have stopped their flights into ben gorian. >> yesterday they fired rockets and mortars into israel. the understanding is that this could erupt into a regional war. there are questions now, too. about how the americans will be involved we know there were americans killed in this massacre. we know there could be americans held hostage inside the gaza strip. and an american carrier is moving closer to israel to
3:22 am
basically act as a show of force against these militant groups inside gaza. >> lawrence: trey, i'm just curious and you brought up the hostage situation. traditionally when the israeli hostages 2006 it was one person for a thousand hostages of hamas. are the israelis abandoning that philosophy and just doing the hostage rescues themselves? >> at this point. 3:25 am
representatives, given the fact that we don't have a speaker, could be part of the timing by hamas. >> they could be as we leisure more it looks like this was happening before kevin mccarthy was ousted from the speakership. but what we do know is that there is no greater friend of israel than kevin mccarthy. in terms of american government this last year, kevin mccarthy our speaker of the house has been the adult in the room. we have been passing the appropriations bills. we did pass hr-1 to make sure america had its own energy supply. kevin mccarthy has been engaged in world affairs. we need kevin mccarthy back in the speakership right now. we need to get that vote done this week. and on the democrat side, i don't know if we will get our crazy 8 back in line or not. on the democrat side when we have that vote, anyone who is a friend of israel needs to go have a tea party or vote present and let kevin mccarthy get back in the speakership chair right now. >> steve: because, congressman, there is nothing the house can do until they elect a speaker. and i was talking to somebody on

3:28 am
is he actively involved behind the scenes saying hey, let's do this? >> no. kevin mccarthy will always put the country first. if the country needs him back and we can get him back in there, he will serve. i have no doubt. kevin mccarthy stepped aside because he thought it was the best thing for the country. kevin mccarthy will step back in if he has got the support and believes it's the best thing for the country and i can't see how he wouldn't believe that the country needs his leadership right now as the speaker of the house. >> steve: well, if he could get the votes, that would be. >> we don't need very many votes. again, if it a few democrats, israeli supporters would go have a tea party, we will have a votes. >> steve: right now the odds are long that this could actually happen. >> i won't give it that. facts are much different today than they were tuesday of last week. >> steve: apparently, mr. mccarthy is going to have a press conference today at 11:00 in the morning. any idea what that's about? >> i don't know. >> steve: all right.
