>> great talking to you, thank you. [explosions] >> dana: state of war, israel retaliating with new air strikes on gaza after prime minister benjamin netanyahu declared war against hamas. the terrorist group launched a surprise assault on israel over the weekend. more than 800 are reported dead. thousands of others wounded and about one men, women and children, including the elderly, all taken hostage. now we're learning at least nine americans are amongst those killed. welcome to a new hour of "america's newsroom," i'm dana perino. bill hemmer is off today. >> aishah: i'm aishah hosni. the fierce battle with hamas terrorists in its third day. we've seen the pictures throughout the morning. israeli defense forces are bombarding terrorist targets inside the gaza strip. meanwhile the u.s. is moving the

u.s.s. gerold ford carrier strike group closer to israel after president biden promised prime minister netanyahu that he would have full support from the united states. >> dana: we have trey yengst on the ground with breaking developments. trey, what do you see? >> just a few moments ago you might have seen on the live camera a huge barrage of rock earths from the northern part of the gaza strip. you could see the angle at which they were fired indicated they were long-range rockets. i'm told by my producer they're targeting jerusalem. air raid sirens sounding in the largest israeli city. a major escalation as the fighting continues. the israeli strikes continue along the border as well and artillery units working at this hour. also just got off the phone with the israeli military there are staging areas along the gaza borders. it may not only be a push from the north but also from the east
7:02 am
that would immediately go into some of these other neighborhoods in gaza that are heavily populated but also used by groups like hamas to hide weaponry. all this unfolding and erupting saturday morning when more than 1,000 palestinian militants entered southern israel taking hostages and slaughtering civilians. they went to a music festival and mowed down 260 people. many were wounded, taken from that area and brought back into the gaza strip. they went to communities along gaza and killed women and children. this was a barbaric act that unfolded and now today israel is preparing their response. behind me you can see israeli tanks staging along with soldiers. more than 300,000 reserve forces have been called up to fight in this war. there are strikes at this moment. i'm seeing just now coming across in lebanon on the
7:03 am
northern border. you not only have these troops staging on israel's southern border but also strikes taking place on israel's northern border after an infiltration attempt earlier today and rocket fire from a palestinian group in southern lebanon. a multi-front conflict and part of the reason the military posture is so high across the country. this is a state prepared for war. in the coming days will be difficult, violent and bloody. >> dana: thank you for the breaking news report. i want to bring in michael allen. he was with the bush administration, national security advisor staff and now works with global beacon strategies. great to have you, michael. one of the things that trey was just discussing is the fact that the israelis are figuring out a way to push back hard. they didn't ask for this but they are going to fight it as if they are going to win it.
7:04 am
now what do you think about this as trey just said now you have rocket fire coming from the east, not just from the north? >> there is a nightmare scenario for the israelis. they want to make an incursion into the gaza strip that is severely complicated by rockets coming over the northern border. a two-front war and complicated in gaza there is israeli and american hostages. it will complicate the force with which israel uses to go into the gaza strip. so a lot of problems for israel going forward this morning. >> dana: one of your questions this morning that you are trying to puzzle out is how involved was iran? what is your thinking today? >> well, i think the "wall street journal" article that's been so often referred to begins to confirm what we all know, hamas, palestinian islamic jihad and hezbollah don't make a move
7:05 am
without iran's knowledge and complicity. i think the israelis working with the united states are trying to figure out just how involved were the iranians in the planning and coordination of these attacks. and that puts a big issue in front of prime minister netanyahu. does netanyahu decide to go after these iranian terrorist networks all around the region? does he hit israel -- i'm sorry, does he hit iran proper? these are big issues he has to try and work through. we all know that the israelis have a huge intelligence network in iran. they in the past have assassinated iranian nuclear scientists. i think they are probably activating those networks this morning and you will see something big happen, i believe, in the coming days against hamas leadership. >> dana: will that extend also to hezbollah? >> if these attacks continue from lebanon into northern
7:06 am
israel, i think it will extend to hezbollah very quickly. they put out a statement yesterday that said hey, if as we will not attack israel as long as israel does not attack lebanon. but it sounds like from your reporting that that is beginning to fall by the wayside. rockets are coming over the border and i think the israelis who know they are vulnerable to a two-front war and beginning to figure out what targets they want to hit and when. i don't know they'll have the luxury of a choice of keeping things calm in the north while things are cooking in the south. i think they're very much prepared for a two-front war and a lot of conflict to come. >> dana: october 6, 2023, was a lot like september 10th of 2001. i know that you cover and follow the intelligence agencies very closely. you know that the united states and israel have great
7:07 am
coordination, great reputations. but there are questions about how this was missed. what are you hearing today about those discussions and is there any daylight between the israelis and the united states on this at this point? >> so first i expect that our intelligence community is working very closely with the israelis to figure out the extent of the iranian involvement. i think also they need to begin to talk about, although this can come later as well. just the nature of this intelligence failure. warnings, strategic warning of attacks is one of the most basic functions of intelligence. we've had notable failures at pearl harbor and on 9/11. this ranks up there as one of the biggest intelligence failures of all time. i think the israelis will have big questions about what happens. as for where we may di verge from the israel east, i worry
7:08 am
the united states will be too concerned about a regional conflict and soft pedal. perhaps they'll soft pedal iranian involvement as they try to counsel restraint on the israelis. i don't think that's appropriate right now. i know president bush and any american president wouldn't accept such counsel after something like 9/11 occurred. i think we need to get absolutely in line with the israelis, figure out what the next targets should be, what the next steps should be, and support them to the hilt. >> dana: i want to have you listen to former house speaker kevin mccarthy. he was on with trey gowdy last night. asking this question about intelligence failures and having to be right 100% of the time because they only have to be right once. watch him here. >> how did israel miss this? this could actually happen in america. our border is wide open. we caught more people in the month of february on the terrorist watch list than we did in the entire last
7:09 am
administration. there could be cells sitting in america right now based upon what is happening. >> dana: you also used to be on capitol hill as a staffer there. what do you think is happening? we don't stère a speaker at the moment. i don't think that will be a gigantic problem in terms of getting everyone on the same page in order to protect us at home not just in this situation eric shawn was just reporting. protests or problems in any of the cities across america, but about intelligence and americans have invested a lot of money in making sure that our intelligence is the best it could possibly be. we know it isn't foolproof. sometimes mistakes are made and things are missed. this one feels a little different given where we are today with modern technology and the intelligence sharing we supposedly have had in the last 23 years. >> i hear you, dana. i think that there will be big questions about whether we, the
7:10 am
united states, had intercepted communications from hamas and other iranians regarding this attack. we typically look backwards after an event like this to see what we have in our holdings. perhaps something had not been translated yet. i think those things are occurring now. i think the israelis, however, have the most explaining to do. they try to run sources, of course, into iran and i think here that human intelligence feature failed in a big way. >> dana: maybe a last question to you about the push from the obama administration, now the biden administration somewhat. they've been softer about it. but trying to do this agreement with iran over the last several years. how has that led us to this moment? >> dana, it is not just the $6 billion that the biden administration is trying to facilitate back to iranian coffers today.
7:11 am
i think the attack reminds us that this is a complete repudiation of the obama and biden iran policies. this gets us back to basic principles, which is that iran is a terrorist state, a revolutionary state. they are not friends of the united states or our allies. we need to treat them as such. i don't think any sort of diplomatic niceties and attempts to try to get along about their nuclear program or their support of terrorism are going to work. we need to toughen up. we perhaps need to go back to extreme sanctions against the iranians. i would like to see us resume sanctions against their oil at a minimum. and move forward in that regard. >> dana: michael allen, thank you for being with us this morning as this breaking news is unfolding. thank you. aishah. >> aishah: hamas's stunning attack on israel sparking new questions about the u.s. state department official rob mali,

>> dana: fox news alert on "america's newsroom," we show you israel at war against terror group hamas. the military moving tanks and troops to the border with gaza as it prepares to go after the enemy with all its might. over the weekend, terrorists stunned the country and the world with a coordinated surprise attack on three fronts. more than 800 people killed including nine americans. benjamin hall live in london with more for us. good morning, benjamin. >> good morning, dana. it's been a terrible two days we've just seen. where we are now is in the middle. atrocities hamas committed and rockets coming over and now people are waiting to see what the israeli response will be. they are currently bombing hamas targets in gaza. we've heard the rockets are being fired at jerusalem now. the longer range rockets usually

provided by iran. the ground offensive everyone is looking at now. 100,000 troops are massing on the gaza border and 300,000 reservists for what many people think will be an urban street by street battle. they have stayed out of gaza. they have fired back. they know there will be booby-traps throughout. they know to go in and totally destroy the hamas military targets they have to go in. what they have done so far is blockaded gaza itself with the israel defense minister saying there will now be no electricity, no food, no fuel, everything is closed and he went on to say we're fighting human animals and we will act accordingly. what, however, complicates the possible or upcoming ground invasion are the hostages that are being held. over 100 including it is believed some americans inside gaza held we believe in some of the tunnels that hamas has built. now hamas will be using them as
7:22 am
human shields and there is great concern that they will die if this offensive is carried out and when it is. that's what the israelis are looking at now. how best to go in. on a bigger picture there is the question about iran. what role did iran play in this? secretary blinken said yesterday there was no indication at this point that iran actively played a role. the "wall street journal" came out with an article yesterday said they had sources inside both hezbollah and hamas who said yes, iran played a big role. they gave a green light to this attack on monday. here is one quote from that article which said officers of iran's islamic revolutionary guard have worked with hamas since august to device the air, land and sea incursions. the most significant breach of israel's border since the 1973 yom kippur war. if that's confirmed, then it is a whole other level as well. we know iran gives them weapons and financing and training. if they were behind this attack which left over 800 is israeli

it's morally bankrupt. within minutes of women and children and elderly people being wantonly slaughtered by terrorists you had people in this country justifying the actions of those terrorists and the very next day rushing into our streets to celebrate the brutal slaughter of innocent people, civilians. i'm almost at a loss for words at how disgusting that is. unfortunately it is not a complete fringe position in this country. it is very much gaining traction in elements of the hard left particularly on campus and it absolutely turns my stomach. >> aishah: what's happening now we have new video coming in from pass i can tan. protestors are burning israeli and u.s. flags. this is spreading all over the region. people are now participating in celebrations over these attacks.

subjects probably whoever survived before taking them back as hostages to gaza. it is only a four-minute trip from here. they mass act erred. this is all little children. families out for a picnic. >> this first car was brought in by hamas on saturday morning. more than 1,000 militants according to the idf were part of this cross border operation going into communities and slaughtering civilians in their homes. you can just see the cars riddled with bullet holes, glass everywhere. there is blood in the backs of some of them and some of them just coming straight off of the road because people were shot as they were driving. off to the right here you can see this call in a ditch and bullet holes in the windshield there. blood stained gauze in the back of this car. just a horrific situation. i do need to warn our viewers this is a bit graphic what you will see but the true nature of

what took place along the border. the blood is all over the car and the van here. it is just a symbol of what took place, the blood shed and massacre against these civilians. we do know at this time israel is firing artillery shells into gaza using their air force to strike positions in the northern and eastern part of the gaza strip and there is a very clear indication that a ground operation is imminent here in southern israel. back to you. >> dana: trey yengst, thank you for the reporting. as you say it is important for us to see it as a hard as it is to make yourself do it. thank you for getting out of the car and bringing us the story. aishah. >> aishah: we're also watching on our screen live pictures of rockets being fired over gaza city here. hard to tell what exactly has been hit. what building, but you can see the huge plumes of smoke here

cascading now over the city. i want to bring in now house foreign affairs committee chairman michael mccaul. chairman, you have been briefed by the national security council and you saw trey show us just how brutally these hostages were taken from right off the road, taken, kidnapped whether women, children, elderly. of course, also looks like american citizens taken as well. what can you tell us about where we are in terms of locating these americans and bringing them home? >> first of all you are seeing the face of evil. the face of terror coming from hamas. but also from iran. iran is backing all this and they are behind all of this. i have been to that community many times in the past, the strip of israel along the gaza strip and i am getting reports back of people i've met with many times here now have been

killed by these terrorists. the images of little toddlers in cages. they kidnapped little 2 and 3-year-old children and put them in cages like animals. i have to tell you, the briefing, we are trying to get every american citizens out of there right now and warning americans not to go into israel. it is too dangerous. but what you are seeing right now with the bombings into gaza is an effort -- this is the first stage, right? the idf, what we're doing now is taking out the command and control operations within gaza. the second phase will be the far more difficult phase and that is because they do hold so many people hostage and they do hold human shields, civilians as shields that they will have to go in house to house not unlike fallujah in 2005 and clear out the terrorists. the goal from netanyahu was to remove all terrorists from gaza.
7:53 am
operationally from a military standpoint it is a very extremely difficult thing to do. it is very dangerous. it will take time. it will be very bloody as well. >> aishah: it will take time and a lot of assistance. trey yengst was reporting some of these hostages might be underground in tunnels underneath gaza, which makes this task even more difficult for not only the israelis but for the americans, for us to be able to get our people home. let me ask you this. how much money does the president have currently to be able to draw down from to send more aid to israel? because i imagine they will need that fairly quickly. how much more do you think they'll need in a supplemental? >> so we appropriated $3.3 billion for assistance to israel. the president has full authority to draw down on that. when we talk to the nsc and white house yesterday, they have

adequate funding in the short term. that's why it's essential we elect a speaker and get back to the business of the people. the first bill on the floor will be my bill condemning hamas for this terrorist assault on israel. what they will also need, aishah, will be replenishing the iron dome weapon system itself. in addition they need precision guided missiles but also the 155s, ammunition that is so desperately needed on the ground as they go house to house. we will have our elections for speaker on wednesday and i would urge my colleagues to not play games with this. this is very serious. it sent a message to the rest of the world that we are weak and dysfunctional. it worries me people like chairman xi saying democracy doesn't work or iran or russia or north korea. democracy has to work right now. the world is simply too

dangerous. >> aishah: i think many people across party lines can agree on one thing. the message is wrong right now. thank you so much, chairman. we appreciate your time. >> dana: we'll have more live coverage of the israel/hamas conflict as people are preparing for an all-out war and the whole world is watching. >> israel not only has the right, they have the responsibility to defend themselves and their people. and we need to support that. a n to get cash...surprise. some lenders charge hundreds upfront for your appraisal and other fees. not at newday. a veteran shouldn't have to come up with money to get money.

live images now coming in from gaza city and those rockets keep on being fired into that city over from israel. we just had on house foreign affairs chairman michael mccaul saying this is stage one where israel is trying to hit those targets where they believe those hamas terrorists are operating out of. stage two, he puts it, is the more dangerous stage which is where they will have to go almost door-to-door looking for where some of these hostages might be kept. trey yengst was reporting earlier some of these people, possibly even americans, might be underground. much more difficult to find in the tunnels under gaza city. >> dana: that's where hamas has done of its work. all the masterminding and planning. the big question today and we have a little more clarity than we did saturday morning. a hunch that iran would have been helping.
7:59 am
the wall "wall street journal" piece over the weekend that iran had a very heavy hand in the planning and you have now a situation where this war could expand. partly because you have the rockets also coming from lebanon israel from the north. hamas and hezbollah both backed by iran and israel responding decisively in the way that they choose and the time that they choose. >> aishah: the question now is does this spiral out of control? and how much does the u.s. get involved? we know that we have now moved our navy carrier fleet in the mediterranean closer to israel. we're waiting for kevin mccarthy to make comments at the capitol. congress, the house of representatives, does not have a speaker at the moment, which
8:00 am
really puts into question how in the world congress will be able to send any more supplemental aid to israel if that time and place arises, dana, where they run out of rockets and a way to defend themselves with the iron dome. we would have to replenish that and raises the questions could we do that quickly and urgently without a house speaker really puts pressure on house republicans right now to get their house in order. >> dana: and so here we are going to leave you from in us news as you go straight into "the faulkner focus" today. martha maccallum is in for harris, stay tuned. we have trey yengst on the ground and incredible coverage throughout the day on fox news channel and foxnews.com. martha maccallum is in for harris. >> martha: hello. thank you very much as we
