people. i want to show you the scene behind me here with artillery units preparing to strike the gaza strip. these are critical units. when soldiers move in, there are hamas and jihad units that use this area to engage in urban battle. i will pan over, white smoke coming up. this is the situation along the border, constant fire back and forth. a town called stook where another massacre took place. we expect this to continue today along the border. >> carley: how big a deal is that lebanon fire the anti-tank
1:04 am
missile to israel and there has been action in syria, as well, what is significance of that? >> trey: yesterday there were mortar shells fired from syria and responded with artillery strikes. when you look what is upon haing here, slowly, but surely, a multi-front conflict is opening up against the jewish state. israel says they have intelligence and soldiers to do it, but it was a nightmare scenario. today we understand that is what israel is facing and the trickle-effect of the attack in the northeast of the country, reminder israeli forces will not just be along the gaza border,

>> carley: thank you for joining us, we'll check in with you soon. >> todd: let us bring in navy seal cameron hamilton. what is the idf doing in intraing soldiers for the conflict that is about to become a ground invasion. >> good morning, thank you for having me. we have a couple scenarios unfolding. we have recalling of troops and reserve units and they will likely put them through a program so they can integrate well with existing forces and you have troops in uniform that have gone through war gaming and different training mechanism and programs for this. when we start talking about multi-front war fare, this is specific endeavor that is challenging for any nation to fold. what we see out of lebanon and
1:08 am
syria will only add to the confusion of the war. israel has been in this situation for quite a while and developed common techniques and strategies on how to mitigate that. train up reserve units and prepare for a long and gruelling haul in gaza and multi-front conflict. >> carley: seems like israel has to walk a line here. status quo is no longer possible given the terror attack that took place on saturday. if they go in forcefully it could encourage syria and lebanon to engage. how do you -- what is the ultimate end game and how do you prevent a multi-front conflict from taking place? >> it is an impossible scenario, it is not a scenario israel has
1:09 am
chosen. israel has been attacked time and time again in many different characteristics and responded appropriately. best thing they can do is rely on their training and technique to reduce casualtieses to civilians, which they take great pains to do. i trained with soldiers of the idf and i was astonished at the bravery and focus on minimizing casualties, even at the expense of their own troops. these are techniques they employ in gaza, they value human life so highly, they are willing to put their own servicemembers into harm's way to mitigate the risk to other populations. this blame of this conflict is on hamas. this rhetoric and actions are
1:10 am
atrocious and these actions have one intent and purpose to further embolden this radical behavior against israel and placate to the international community to perpetuate more action such as this. palestinians have an end game and strategy in mind that is focused soslowly eroding standing of israel in the international community's eyes and impossible scenario that israel time and time again has had to face where standards are not always fair. >> todd: talk about the reality of the fight. i spoke with a fox military colleague who said don't fool yourself, these soldiers know based upon the expected urban house to house combat they are about to engage in, this is somewhat of a suicide mission and these individuals, these brave men and women know that is
1:11 am
what they are about to undertake. do you share that grim reality? >> i do. obviously, there are quite a bit of factors i'm not aware of they are planning for. israel has a robust intelligence network and planning cells. likely they are strategizing down to granular level about key districts, roads, alley ways and they have munitions and how they unfold bloc to block will be something ushgnique, they will use best-kept tools to provide support with. the troops idf ememploys knows this is war of annihilation and they know if they are not willing to act as bastions to defend freedom and democracy in

israel, it would mean destruction of that peaceful land. they are some of the bravest and most noble people i've had the honor of serving with. they understand complexities of what happens if they don't fight. >> todd: cameron hamilton, we appreciate it. missing americans in israel knowledged to be captured by hamas include a mother and daughter from chicago. they were visiting for the holiday and have not been heard from since the attacks began. a rabbi joins us now. what is the latest you have heard? >> we know that our dear friend judith and her daughter natalie were spending the holiday season, they have been talking about this holiday trip for many, many weeks and they have been in israel, final portion of this holiday they spent in

southern israel near the border of gaza. we know that particular kibbutz was attacked by hamas militants who came in and went door to door murdering and savaging homes and destroying homes and taking people hostage, killing and hurting people on the streets and throughout that town. so we have not heard from judith or natalie, the family has not heard from them since the attack and we do know that people from that town have been taken hostage. >> todd: we deal with numbers that are so horrific in this conflict, hundreds, thousands, it is vital in a segment like this we need to put a face to the numbers and get into detail about the individuals.
1:14 am
what can you tell us about judith and natalie? thank you. that is really important question. judith is a member of our congregation and comes every saturday for shabbat services, she is a stanch part of our community, caring, loving, giving. a woman who is there for the other person, for another person, for community members and friends, for someone in need, she is there. she comes by the homes with gifts for the children and wants to be a part of everything going on. kind-hearted and generous, friendly person. her daughter natalie just graduated from deerfield high school in the chicago area and i'm sure she had great aspirations ahead. these are friends. these are community people.
