along the river getting briefed and learning about these app apprehensions and, bret, something else he's learning in just the past one week here in eagle pass, there were more than 10,000 migrant encounters and there were more than 1450 known got aways. meaning they were seen or observed on video cameras but not brought into custody. it comes as there's more than 60 miles of un-patrolled border in this sector alone because 90% of the border patrol agents are busy doing the processing. i can also tell you over in the rio grand rally, bret, where there's been time reporting. i'm just learning in the last few hours they've had some 17 syrians since monday apprehended in that sector as well as 19 migrants from iran. it's all getting a lot of attention because obviously the horrific events playing out in israel and because we're learning that according to our latest fox news polling, nearly 50% of registered voters believe

camera man randall will get any kind of view we can of this. we're about 20 miles you have the coast from gaza and this place has been a little quiet in the last couple days, but certainly the strikes against hamas militants inside gaza had been absolutely the most -- huge up tick of air strikes and in the back hearing hamas militants trying to strike back. there was again as you noted, bret, new report in the last couple hours of small ashed to - groups of military trying to seek out hamas rockets and seeking them out and look for hostages and there's still 150 kept inside there. this after an extraordinary warning as you noted from the

in a different situation. however, it's possible that the president could tip his hand more and he's on his way up to philadelphia and whether or not this is a definnive this is what the heat house does if that scenario plays out over the weekend. that's yet to be seen. keeping hand close to the vest. >> bret: one more thing on the president's trip to philadelphia. he's not talking about israel, i'm sure he'll have some remarks on the top of the speech, are they thinking they're going to breakthrough with messaging on other topics on that day? >> you know, that's a great question, bret. i was a bit surprised by that too only because of course this is a trip that was likely in the works for several weeks beforehand, but obviously the president's schedule has changed quite a bit this week given the news that happened since last saturday. why this event and why now. that's an interesting question and there's a gaggle happening on the plane on the way and it's only audio and we don't get live
11:12 am
pictures and that's one of the questions reporters asked and after looking away from some of the other news of the day, elements why this trip would be so important. the president is also still going to be doing a few things in dc over the weekend. he's got a dinner tomorrow night he's planning to attend as far as we know, i would imagine when you talk about messaging here, that's maybe why he chose to do 60 minutes.
11:13 am
is >> it's very hard to predict how things unfold in the coming days and they're being held by a terrorist organization in now a war zone. zone the missiles being launched by them in future attacks and putting hamas out of business forever, they do that quickly and with overwhelming force so that the inevitable brutality of war is done quickly to minimize the amount of casualties but also to limit the time in which the hostages are moverring around and kept at ever heightening danger.
11:14 am
>> sandra: can you talk a bit more about the tunnel system that was built quite some time ago and hamas has been using on a regular basis for quite some time. we know they've got leaders that have been hiding in there. this is a huge part of the operation and they've had a lot of time to prepare for this. >> well, control of the ground is only one part of the whole thing and underground tunnels is substantial and they're very deep. it's proven challenging to collapse these with bunker buster bombs in the paths they've been reported on and it's going to take either waiting them out so they come out on their own accord or going in and finding the hamas operatives inside and killing them where they are. but that is a very dangerous and very lengthy operation. i think the more urgent one is control of the surface so the israelis can move air defense and focus those limited supply ammunitions and hezbollah to the north and also potential threat to the west bank.
11:15 am
>> sandra: can you also talk about the evacuation of citizens from countries all over the world and it's a major on going effort on going and the u.s. said fbi and pentagon has people on the ground and they're providing special open ray torrs to recover -- operate torrs to recover -- operators to get people out and this is a massive operation that's ongoing at this hour. >> not as one would expect and an evacuation of the third party civilians of hot active war zone and extremely problem matt and i can challenging and most times in history it's not gone very well. there's been undue casualties and damage that's occurred in the process of trying to do that. the u.s. has moved with a strike group and it does provide the president some options and does provide a platform in which to move helicopters as well as
11:16 am
aircraft to get those americans out quickly at the leisure of american forces and that comes with significant amount of risk. another layer of hamas trying to get to second layer that hamas has built saying they're not bunkingers for gaza civilians and other terrorists they can continue to fire rockets at israel and plan operations to launch terrific rests into israel. we can only imagine what this is going to look like and how sophisticated the planning underway is for this, bret.
11:17 am
>> one way they like to fight is inter-ming and will mix with the population and i don't see that changing and despite some palestinians are able to move to the south out of declared area of the israeli telling them to get out. there's going to be civilians, many probably held against their will and i don't see the threat of hamas using human shields is changing or going away. it's going to be building and fighting when it starts. >> sandra: brent, we really appreciate you joining us and giving us your int insights on . thank you. >> thank you. >> sandra: all right, tensions high on college campuses as we've been discussing and it's been happening nationwide and we have a live view from college in new york and cb, what are you seeing down there at the college? reporter: well, sandra, tensions
11:18 am
continue to rise at college campuses across the country and here at this college and i want to move out of the way and give the viewer as better look and it's a group of 50 or 60 students and some are wearing traditional scarves covering heads and face and others are carrying signs in support of palestine and a prayer is happening right now. signs reading from the river to the sea, palestine will be freeway. i've seen other signs quoting the koran and others referring to israel as a settler state and we're going to try and move in a bit closer. this protest here follows countless others that have happened in the city and across the country this week. hundreds faced off in dualing protests in columbia's campus and one telling me 500 people gathered to support palestine at another protest at a college across town and most standing in solidarity for palestine and one student accusing israel of creating propaganda.
11:19 am
another saying this. >> people are taking sides and i'm taking israel's side and as much as death is tragic, there's no two sides. it's free palestine. whether there's a situation and people are oppressed and not have a right to have their voices heard, they have a choice. reporter: some students calling ha mas martyrs and, sandra, back out live at the protest this is a prayer getting underway and the traditional scarves right now and everyone is silent as the prayer continues. we're told this group is going to march to time square and, sandra, i want to mention this week, dozens of house republicans called on education
11:20 am
secretary miguel car doe that c- cardona going out and monitoring the campuses right now. >> sandra: that's happening live in new york city at this hour. cb, thank you. bret. >> bret: cities across the country, sandra, ramping up security as former leader of hamas as we've been talking about and calls for a day of rage. in new york city, there's no credible threats at this time and they're putting additional officers in place at busy areas like schools and places of worship and nate foy live in time square and a huge propalestinian rally happening in less than an hour there and, nate, what are authorities telling you? reporter: well, bret, that beefed up security presence you talked about but where i am right now, which is right near time square, this entire area within the hour will be full of pro palestine protesters and you'll see palestine flag pole
11:21 am
attached to this truck here and protesters are starting to fill in all sorts of different signs here. many of them saying free palestine and, you know, a whole bunch of things are being yelled at this point and the intensity will only increase as the afternoon continues, bret. but i spoke with special agent in charge of the new york fbi field office today. and he told me exactly what we heard from governor hochul and mayor adams. there's no specific threats they're monitoring and with that global day of jihad that was called for by the former leader of hamas. they are really concerned about what could happen. they say they're prepared for it in terms of how they interment exactly what that means, they declined to tell me today but the former leader of hamas told anybody who supports palestine to show their anger on the streets today and that's the reason for the beefed up security presence and also new york city specifically really
11:22 am
focusing on schools and houses of worship, not only the locations of these protest especially like where we are right now. governor kathy hochul spoke with the white house and department of homeland security last night and she's ready to call in the national guard if needed. >> bret: looking live at air force one landing in philadelphia and president joe biden meeting with officials at the airport as he getting ready to head out and give a speech. we expect he's going to give remarks and one would think in a day like this where all the news is generated out of what's happening on the ground in israel and all the times he's talked about what the u.s. backing up israel. we expect some kind of remarks at this event in philadelphia but that's not the purpose of

the event. and we will see him live later on today. as tensions between pro palestinian and pro israel demonstrators grow around the world, some say they fear anti-jewish rhetoric may only get worse. let's bring in ambassador mark, a former spokesperson for benjamin netanyahu and cassioppi baseball games dorman to the uk. thank you -- ambassador to the uk and thank you for being here. i want to start broadly over what's group of peopled over the past day and a couple of days ago and where you see things standing as of this hour? >> well, we've had a few difficult days in israel and from defense, it took us awhile to clean up the terrorists that infiltrated in our country and hostage situations, and it took us a few days to get control of our own territory.
11:24 am
now we've moved from defense to offense and hitting terrorists in gaza till we continue hitting them hard until we have that's the goal on october 7. >> bret: as hard as it is to believe, anti-semitic re-mashes and posts have gone up some 500%, we're told, since all this began. despite our reporting of the depravity of terrorist on children, terrorist on families, and what we saw from the hamas attack. you see these anti-israel protests here in the u.s., around the worship god, this call to action, this global jihad call, a day of rage was

11:29 am
i think the international community has to think seriously about how we deal with those sorts of governments. >> bret: yeah, am bos dorman, wondering looking through images about people protesting and supporting palestinians and maybe some are anti-israel and if you make a distinction and talking about hamas and the terrorist organization and having to annihilate it and if between hamas and palestinians broadly and explaining to our audience and then secondly as you look at and get ready for what's going to happen likely in days, this battle that's going to go into gaza to try and take out the terrorist threat from hamas. how it may affect the world's perception as those public images go around the world in a minute.

the -- hezbollah leader said today the group would not be swayed by calls to stay on the sidelines of the ongoing conflict between israel and hamas saying the party was fully ready to contribute to the fighting. what does that tell you about what could be happening next in that region? >> with all due respect to admiral kirby, that doesn't pass a smell test and it's a situation created by the ziti lamb ick republic of iran and hamas doesn't know and hamas doesn't have the capabilities to put together an attack like the one mounted on october 7. hezbollah does not have the capability to produce 100,000 precision guided missiles in that war-torn reck of a country that's lebanon. of course iran is behind it and if there were any doubts, iranian foreign minister came out in the last couple days and

>> sandra: fox news alert. benjamin netanyahu did just address his nation and the world saying "soldiers are fighting like lions. all security forces, citizens, all united." much will be told about the bravery of our people, he said, on that terrible saturday. "we will not forget" said netanyahu a moment ago. to the families, he said i spoke to several families of those killed. we will never forget what our enemies did and will not let the word forget. netanyahu is saying this is only the beginning. the enemy just started to pay the price. he then said he spoke with the

u.s. president, joe biden, and leaders around the world. that he and his country have the support from them. we will beat hamas. it will take time. but we will win, said benjamin netanyahu just a short time ago. all right. meanwhile there's chaos unfolding on capitol hill as the war in israel heats up, majority leader steve scalise is out of the speakership race now. does jim jordan have enough support to become the next nominee. that's the question at this hour. shannon bream has more on whether congress will take swift action without a leader. first, we head to the hill where aishah hasnie is standing by. she's reporting live on this. what's the very latest, aishah? >> hi, sandra. i just was told that house republicans will take an internal closed door test vote on jim jordan at about 3:10 this afternoon.
11:55 am
so just about 15 minutes they'll get back together inside a conference room and take a test vote to see if he has the 2017 needed to take this to the floor and do an official speaker vote. in the meantime, a lot of pressure is intensifying on house republicans as the israeli hamas war continues to go on. i can tell you house foreign affairs chairman, michael mccaul, was just at the white house. he's now racing back to capitol hill to make this test vote that's about to happen. he was basically discussing with the national security council about a possible aid package for israel, which of course would need a house speaker, if that was going to happen. i'm told that mccaul basically asked to beef up all of the different funds, all of the buckets that the president has the ability to draw down from. that includes increasing the cap to the special defense acquisition fund, which
11:56 am
currently has a cap of $2.5 billion. this would help israel get their hands on more weapons, more parts, more munitions quickly. it could help ukraine and taiwan. we heard the biden administration was going to ask for a large supplemental for israel, ukraine and die want. some backlash about that on the hill here. chairman mccaul is not opposed to the wider package. nothing can move unless we have a house speaker. marco rubio has been saying that there are about $3 billion available previously approved for the president to draw down from. meantime, a lot of pressure on these republicans to come together today and pick a speaker. listen to what congressman garcia said earlier today. >> everyone in the party should realize there's a national security imperative here to fill this seat. put aside your political and personal differences and get on

board for the big win. >> so here we go. the test happens in about ten minutes, sandra. >> thanks. aishah hasnie. thank you. bret? >> as we said, any additional aid for israel up in the air as congress struggles to elect a house speaker. let's bring in shannon bream, "fox news sunday" anchor and chief leal correspondent. it's a mess. the 217 number is the magic up in. it's always about the math. right now it does not seem like jim jordan can get there, at least behind the scenes that's what we're hearing. >> and i reached out to folks from different wings of the gop that would align in different ways. i didn't get any sense that they would come to something that they can coalesce around. as aishah said, around 3:10 they'll try to go to the test vote. we had congressman austin scott. he's not a well known guy.
11:58 am
doesn't make you think he could be somebody to rally the troops and get to the 2017. he seems ernest about this run. >> yeah, he's from georgia. a seven-term congressman, this is a protest vote. he was a mccarthy supporter. mccarthy was on set with me last night. i asked him different ways if he was pulling himself out of consideration. he said it's up to the conference. it could be awhile, right? you think? >> it could be. i mean, this congress surprises us occasionally. i don't think that they have a solution to the speaker issue. they know the external look it is for them. you heard congressman mccaul just over at the white house talking about aid. he said our enemies are watching this. our enemies that don't wish us well and don't wish israel well. it's not a good look for us. we have serious work to handle here. we have these little buckets of people that say i won't vote for
11:59 am
x. how do you get them together? >> democrats saying the only way forward is a bipartisan power share. republicans are not going for that. >> yeah, i don't see them buying that yet. >> we just have heard that north korea has transferred weapons to rush for ukraine. who is on "fox news sunday" this weekend? >> to that point, we have john kirby with us and senator tom cotton to talk about the foreign policy issues. cotton is working with mitch mcconnell to freeze the $6 bill. and ben sasse says it shouldn't be hard to make a statement with a lot of moral clarity about what is happening as we see the protests on campus all over. >> thanks, shannon. >> see you later. >> sandra: just an update here. good to see shannon. nominating speech is over. voting around 3:10 eastern time.
12:00 pm
they will call members back and try to hold a vote over the weekend. >> it's a lot happening. i appreciated how much happens from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. sitting in this chair. >> sandra: now you know. just to add to that, biden in philadelphia. this is a live shot. so i believe he is just starting his remarks there. the shot is not great but we'll continue to monitor for anything on the ongoing war. bret, thanks for joining us here. good to have you here today. thanks for joining us. i'm sandra smith in new york. >> it's great to be here in for john roberts who is on assignment. and "the story" starts right now. thanks, sandra. >> martha: thank you very much, you guys. good afternoon. i'm martha maccallum at fox news head quarters in new york where pro palestinian protesters have taken to the streets and are clogging times square at this moment. you have heard that
