angeles. israel conducting airstrikes and localized ground raids in gaza at this hour, the israeli military says the latest rounds of attacks killed a senior hamas member involved in planning last saturday's horrific attacks in israel. murad abu murad was killed in a strike targeting a building in the gaza strip. it comes as israel continues to urge palestinian is to leave the northern part of the gaza strip, warning the combat will intensify. they've also extended a 24 hour window to leave that was issued early friday local time. and new video also coming in overnight showing damage from the israeli city of ashkelon. hamas armed wing al qassam saying friday that it launched 150 rockets toward that city. there are now reports whether or no new reports yet whether any israelis were injured in that attack. it's been exactly one week now since hamas staged those shocking, brutal and deadly attacks against israel. israel has been striking back hard all week. in addition to
1:02 am
airstrikes and targeted ground attacks. hundreds of thousands of israeli troops are amassing. there's no word yet when we could see a full scale ground invasion as israel continues to go after hamas fighters in the gaza strip. they're also facing a threat from hezbollah in on the northern border. the israeli military says the situation there is very intense with hezbollah firing anti-tank missiles, surface to air missiles and drones toward israel on friday. the idf, however, says all attempts at striking israel were intercepted. for more on this, let's turn now to senior fox news national correspondent kevin corke. kevin yeah, very interesting recap there, marianne. i'm actually looking at a couple of different things , too. i just want to share for the viewers at home. rocket alarms have apparently been sounding in community cities near the gaza border, despite a ten hour respite. and so we'll try to figure out what that might mean or what that might not mean as we get more reports from our reporters on the ground. we've also been chasing
1:03 am
a report and have not yet confirmed it, but there's a report that gazan rockets hit an education center in the southern border town of sderot, as well as the roof of a hesder yeshiva in the city. a pair of rockets, we're told here. but again, we have not confirmed that report. that's coming from the jerusalem post and others. we will have to see what the ultimate confirmation is on that or not. there's something else i thought was very important as we've been having our conversations throughout the night here on fox news channel. there's an idf arabic language spokesperson sharing on that. the idf will allow safe movement for gazans on two main roads into southern territory between 10 a.m. local time and 4:00 pm. that's important because, as you know, we've been reporting that the idf ultimately warned that gazans should leave the northern part of that territory and move south. right now, we are being told that there are at least two main roads that
1:04 am
will allow safe passage between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. today. we'll see how that all plays out. but for now, it is still a very precarious situation. we continue to watch live pictures, but for now, marianne, back to you. yeah, kevin, thank you for that. if you're just joining us, israel is still conducting airstrikes, also localized ground raids in gaza. they've also been warning civilians to go to a different part of the gaza strip as these airstrikes will continue. and they're trying to get civilians out of harm's way and giving quite a bit of warning on that. also so earlier, they did kill murad abu murad, who is reported to be the head of the hamas air force. that information coming out just a little bit earlier this has been our continuing coverage of the situation in israel and gaza. keep it right here on fox news channel for the very latest. for now, we go back to whur regular programing already >> for now, we go back to ourat regular programming already in progres they dis and embed ay bad as english might not

when people talk about what's happening. real clari we get lost in thest weeds on well, one side against the other. people try to sort of have some moral equivalency there againstreally, in this circums. >> yeah. first off, kevin, thank you for having m thise. i think you've identified it cory clearly with the contrast between the israelis and hamas. it couldn't be more apparent. it couldn'ntw and itt be more pe with what you see. their tactics are very much at the what yo expense of humane and the israelis take great efforts and great pain so as to preserve human life. we see that in their tactics. we see that in their.nning. >> t and so the benevolence of that nation and some of the bravery those soldiersvolence e in was just remarkable. and it deserves our full i wiged supporn are ret. and i wish the international community would stand with them more consistentlernationy in tie this, because as we know, they've experienced it quite ext and theyperien will probably continue to experience it more in the future. colonel, let me bring you in on the conversatioce. n. ersati and i think cameron made a great point. he talked about this idea that ionron made g really feel like the international community has to step in there and show

more consistency. what say you? >> well, you know, i think wel that the international community really, i think really wrapped around making sure that innocent people don't get hurt anymore in this. and we't saw it with the saw you know, the barbarity from the hamas in those people at the concert. i mean, it's still hard to get my head wrapped aroundpeople . and i think there's pretty universal condemnation on the hamas. thine isrettyi where there mighe room for, you know, additional viewpointsmight be is that the palestinian people are being victimized really because the hamas is within them. but they're still being killed l in large numbers, up to 600 children. and, you know, i don't think anybody wants to see any more o anybody f that. >> no question about that. i want to share a biuestt of so earlier. this is from special report, former cia. director panetta wa asked about some possibilitiesds that may happen here. i want to share this and then get your thoughts on the other side. hey have show thicameron, first to you,

but here's the sound from leon panetta. >> any invading force would ultimately be called having to go in to door to door fighting, building to building ,room to room, basement to basement. this would be this would be very tough in terms of being able to ultimately be able to get at hamas and be able to destroy them. i think he's spot on.on. >> this is one of the most challenging things one could possibly have to endure in warfare. wouldn't you agreegs oneould? i would. urban urban warfare is never an easy matter to to undertake from a military strategy. when you add the complexitymili of hostagetarys and some of tho unique scenarios, it only makes matters worse and more itg. is onun so time is of the essence. unfortunately, i, i think the world would wish that israel had more timewould and had the means to pragmaticallywish use diplomc efforts to release these hostages. pbut i don't think that's

reality. i think given the rhetoric and the nature and behavior that we've seei ericn from hama, unfortunately going door to door, street by street, bloc k by block is what's goingbloc to be required, because this is ak isedn enemy that is very fierce. they're ruthless. sois have been on full now for quite some time. and i think israel's forced, as i've said before, really in an impossible scenario. and i think that thibes is the only option that they have to pursue. >> colonel davis, i know you know great deal about thise. as well. it would seem to me that in a circumstance like this, the idea of trying to protect the innocent i, yet rooting out the actual problem, the fighters from hamas, thism a is fraught with peril. how prepared do you suspecs. t the israelis are for this eventuality? >> welou preparel, that's exacty the right question. there are two factors we got to take a look at. e were tone is the israeli sidet the second is the hamas. that on the israeli side hamas,r they're probably not very well prepared for this because they are not t ared for trained to execute these really complex operationsi

and their special operations forces. oper one of the things that really took me by surprise and you can't understandatone of t by ie you actually see it was we were in the southern portion of israel looking into were gag we had jusazt gone through some of their tunnel techniques . and as we were looking overza into gaza, they brought out a map and they and tou said, doy what that is right there? and i said, what is that? that's a schooousee whl. a scho that's that's a one was a u.n. building. they had painted u.nol. on sideh of it. and i said, well, what's the issue with them? they said most of those buildingf those s being used tol tunnels. that is where they're starting their tunnel systems out because they know that no israelis are going to take so much flak if they were ever target that. but that's what hamas does, right? hamas takets schoolchildren, they take women, they take children. they use them as human shields. men, children as huone of the y does concern me about the israelis right now is they'rdoe used to going into these tunnels and clearing them or even just demolishing them the, knowing that hamas is in there. now that we have reports that these hostagein theres mign there. that adds an a completely different layer on to that inami c of what they're dealing with.
1:34 am
>> so excellent point, seth. us upwrap uwrap with your thoughts? yeah, there's question hamas, other militant groups, islamicsh ,have useder civilians as humana shields. they will do that again in thisd conflicts and . and we'll also see them do things like they've smuggled weapone s and fighters in ambulances and staged them at hospitals. so, i mean, they're trying to increase civilian casualties in this fight. so we have to be very vigilant n in understanding what is hamas disinformation coming. but it's this will be a tough fight. >> certainly appreciate your perspective, seth jones and derek anderson. gentlemen, thank you so much. appreciate that. apprecianow to the debate on coe campuses and the allegations. some presidents on those campuses have been slow to condemnnuses hav the attackss by hamas. last night, elizabeth corbett's

injured in that attack? it's been exactly a week now since hamas staged those shocking, brutal and deadly attacks against israel. israel has been striking back hard all week. and in addition to airstrikes and targeted ground attacks, hundreds of thousands of israeli troops are amassing. there's no word yet when we could see a full scale ground invasion as israel continues to go after hamas fighters in the gaza strip. they're also facing a threat from hezbollah at the northern border. the israeli military saying the situation there is very intense with hezbollah firing anti-tank missiles surface to air missiles and drones toward israel on friday. the idf, however, says all attempts at striking israel were intercepted. for more, let's turn now to senior fox news national correspondent kevin corke with more. kevin. mary anne. very interesting. as we continue to get new information at this hour, i just wanted to share, there have been more rocket attacks in fact, at this very hour, there are sirens that are sounding in jerusalem

and into the central and southern parts of israel. you may recall in our last hour, we mentioned that sirens were being heard along the gaza border. and obviously, that has now expanded. in fact, one attack, we are told, has resulted in at least four injuries, one of them critical. so clearly, the circumstance is beginning to escalate. and i say that understanding that as you pointed out now we have two main roads that will provide at least purportedly provide safe transport for people to move from one part of the territory to the other, at least until 4:00. now, again, that could change. as you and i have been reporting throughout the night, the us government, while saying all the right things publicly, has been privately urging the israelis to be measured in the way that they approach this and as you've seen, we've seen surgical strikes to take out some of the leadership in hamas and they will need that sort of

precision to enable many of the civilians to have a chance to move from the northern part of the territory to the south. i also want to mention this, and i know you have been talking about some of the broader global impact of the day of rage and obviously this ongoing conflict between the israelis and hamas. i just read a report i wanted to share this is from reuters out of france, the french president, emmanuel macron, has ordered 7000 soldiers to be mobilized for increased security patrols after a teacher there was stabbed to death in an islamic attack. this is the real fear here on the ground, as you can imagine, in this idea that what is obviously a conflict between a very specific group of people could obviously spread regionally and perhaps even globally, something we'll keep an eye on for you. but for now, back to you. yes, we certainly will. and hopefully those residents there in gaza or continue to move and get to a safer place in the southern part of gaza. all right. thank you, kevin. i'm marianne

2:49 am
as we see live picturespict and explosions and otherund? munitions happening there live on the ground. so it's in gaza.s >> i was in gaza a few yearso, ago on a normal when they're not under attack, it's a place that's on the brink. they don't hav e in resources. it's overcrowded and now they've got an evacuation order. there's rougs roughly 500,000le people in gaza city. peope'gaza cits roughly a millin people in the northern area that israel has ordered to evacuate. t i don't see how it's possible that they can all evacuate in time, but that's what they're trying to do right now. regarding what leaders are asking israel to do. the u.s. is obviously publiclyua embracing israel, maybe quietly asking israel to do you know, to be pragmatic about this evacuation. nation the united nations notably has pressed very hard on israel to back off on this evacuation evacuation order because they thinkacuation going to be a humanitarian disaster. other countries are also likely weighing in israel, but israele

is going to do what israel wants to do, and it does have a right to go afte r. and it believes that it has to do this evacuation in order to properln ordey accomplish that mission. >> excellent point about the u.n.>> and, david shares with u, spencer here, because this is not just sortspence of a bill relationship here. we're talking about we're heg about a global community that is watching this very carefully. look, obviously, no one wants this to become a regional conflicts to. but in a circumstance like this, as we see these live pictures, the temperature is rising. >> definitely rising.defini and i think, you know, david'ste right, the situation for situa nwho live in the gaz strip is not good, but it's important to realize why that is. you know, all this international aid l this id goe, whether it's sewer pipes, to try to cut down on communicable diseases it's t most of the rest of the world eradicated years ago. those sewer pipes are then cut ofld withf by hamas and usedp by as rockets to kill israeli children. and so there's a reason there are very bad. and it's you know, you look at even just this evacuation order,as the idf has been warning them, get out, get out, we're coming in. and yo u, hamas, tellinge
2:51 am
people don't leave because their whole strategy is to have these human shields in placeg pu in order to prevent theoretically israel from doing action that theys in have everye right to do based on what hamas did to them. and so it's -- it's a horrible evern on all fronts, but it's important that we continue to remember everything, however bad it may e get. this is all a reaction based on what hamas did and things that are notd d good exactlye of because of hamas. >> not long ago, we heard an idf spokespersonm. that members of hamas are embedding themselves within the civilian population. they say this is a cynicalan po to prevent civilians from moving out of the areaprevens the north, as the israelis have suggested they ought. this have suted they also somett allows them to avoid detection ,some circumstances. and we've talked at length, david, about of these tunnel h s, ey other ways that they are able to infiltrate our civilian populationarfiltrates. i want to ask you both something that is just realli wl i think doesn't get talked about often enough. teone of the frustrations is for the people that live in gaza
2:52 am
is, they feel like we're getting rations of water, o get it every two weeks. we don't get freedom of travelw, ,of access. we are treated in an apartheidda systempa as been suggestedck onh by some. the pushback on that is israelai a right to defend itself against terrorist organizationgs like hamas? and if people are caught in the middle, that's unfortunate, but it's a reality on the ground. does that sort of unpack the complicated nature of what's going on, david, org am i oversimplifying it? >> no, that doeson or ifying . you know, the people of gaza are also hostages of hamas. the last election in gaza wastha in 2006. >> can you imagine? st electio17 ago, many of the po aliv in gaza weren't even alive when that vote happened. they didn't choosee when hamas.o and hamas has not held more, has not held elections since then because they know how unhappy the people are with

their leadership. so it's the hamas militants that this needs to be aimed at. what we don't want is a cycle of violence. yes, israel has to go after everyone who is responsible for this attack, but they have to cr very careful not to create a new generation of terrorists ,a new generation of people who support a support, an organization like hamale who ss excellent point. and i think the other thing >>d say, david andsa spencer, you can speak to this . it's an all bets are off circumstance. you know, children and women and killing children and indiscriminately attacking civilians. there is this urgency now, it would appear to me, to say thiss is it. this is the line in the sand iti and. whatever we have to do to root this out, we will do . s what and that's what we're seeing culminate right now. and these live pictureculminghs >> is that is that your take on this? well, it's a situation where, again, this not the first time, obviously, that hamas or any of these iran backed organizations has gone afterr israel. right. this happens continually. this just happened to be sort

of the exclamation anation on a very long string of aggression toward israel and its people. and you have now with thise scale of a situation and as torrific of a situatioion asn, l does not ever want to be back in this position again. and i hear more off now as we're watching. but when you think about israel does not want to bisraeloesn'ter a situation where whether it's ten years, 20 years oron'tw 100 years down the road, they don't want to be in a place where, again, these iraniaan n militants and terrorists are coming across the border, killing their childrenoss th, their wom. they want to make sure that doesn't happen. and if they decided that the status quorpaing again, this al. reason the gaza strip is there, you know, israel withdrew years ag few yeao and the whole idea s they're going to have it and they're going to be able to govern themselves. obviously, they picked hamase gn as their government, and that has not gone well for them. but israel, i think, is up a weo against a point where they don't have a choice as far as just the normal isn't going to do it. >> we're watching the camera pan just about to give us, again, a sense of what's happening as spencer speaking, you've probably heard more explosions in the backgroundprobab in fact, we see fresh smoke right there to the
