the first reaction, she was screaming and then shouting. the other reaction was the happiest moment in my life and the third reaction after everybody went home and i sit alone and watch the video was i couldn't stop crying because i see my baby in pain. >> mike: rockets continue to strike israel from gaza strip and in the north as hezbollah continue to ratchet up tension and risk of opening a second front. as far as the ground offensive, it will start when the commission meets needs of the army.
5:05 am
the offensive may be somethingel else, we're watching for that. >> steve: something we're watching for, when they will open the rafah portion in gaza with egypt. that has been a bone of contention because people inside gaza want to be able to go to israel and people in israel with humanitarian aid want to bring it to gaza. the gate is closed. >> mike: you mean egypt, that is where the aid is coming from. egyptians want to bring in the aid and end the siege against the gaza strip. the other real difficulty you have there, you don't just have palestinianians, you have foreign nationals, including americans who want to get out.
5:06 am
the gate does not open. back to you. >> ainsley: check in with jacqui heinrich with more on president biden's trip tomorrow. >> after the president leaves israels, he will head to jordan and speak with the egyptian president there to move the situation forward that we've been seeing unfold for last couple days with people having difficulty getting through the rafah crossing. the biggest part of his message to underscore support for israel. another part is directed to other actors in the region. >> president biden will underscore a message to any actor state or nonstate trying to take advantage of this crisis to attack israel, don't. do that end.
5:07 am
he deployed two aircraft carrier group and other military assets to the region. the president will coordinate closery with israeli partners to secure release of hostages taken by hamas. >> the u.s. is concerned a second front could open in the war. iran has vowed to hold the u.s. involved militarily if it gets involved in the conflict. the troops are advising and medical support, not fighting. the president ramped up pressure on china, holding considerable influence over iran to dissuade them from stocking the fight. russian president vladamir putin is meeting with xi jinping. he is offering support in averting crisis in gaza.

trying to flex his muscle there. biden, who went to ukraine after russia invaded ukraine, leaves for israel later today. we are not sure what kind of as assurance the u.s. received from hamas. this is dynamic situation and u.s. is taking every step necessary to ensure his safety. >> steve: things are moving fast. >> lawrence: quickly, i know you have been talking with white house aids, any calculation to aannouncing it and not keeping it secret? >> i think it is important that everyone there realize the u.s., we have been encouraging the

5:12 am
malcolm gladwell's 101, everything converging and boots on the ground, i don't want to see that, i don't think this campaign is like we see ground campaign pushing across open terrain. what israel is doing with idf targeting bad guys and taking them out is key. that could last 24 hours or a few weeks, that is the situation whether or not that campaign is a short term or long-term objective. >> steve: lawrence. >> lawrence: i am curious as we're talking about boots that are on the ground and the special forces, how are boots on the ground, infantrymen going to

be able to navigate the hostage situation? you do thousands of rounds per week, what you train in. it is different for infantryman. is there speed training to get them up to par to deal with the situations? i think that is what everyone is afraid of, will we lose hostages in the middle of the war? >> it is a tough situation, we have infantry that has to take that ground, it is very important. special operation utilizes infantry to obtain structures and target areas where hostages will be kept. it is a campaign on the ground. to make that happen, you have to be on the ground. when i hear 2000 servicemembers on the ground and they call them
5:14 am
support, that might be in position for the humanitarian crisis that is bound to happen. that is a sign of things to come. i hope people on standby have gotten the word they are training rehearsing right now. that could happen soon. >> brian: the attack itself, it started october 7. hamas political leadership said that the operations, they were shocked they were able to stay on the ground so long and shocked about the number of hostages they were able to get and how quickly the israeli army collapsed. is that a one-off or is that part of the delay and kecalibration before they go in to gaza? >> i don't think that is delay at all. when you have a civilian
5:15 am
population that is unarmed, one thing i say routinely, america is a super power because of our ability to defend ourselves as civilians. that is profound and these people on outskirts, 15 different sites had no fighting chance. no one is coming to save you, you have to defend and protect yourself. part of the issue, this could happen. 19 people, 19 losers with box cutter utilized. this is something they were not expecting, but should have been prepared for. israeli defense force general and command staff from the top to the ground, when asked, how did this happen, why did this happen? they said, we failed and that is
5:16 am
them taking responsibility. i don't know if you will see that anywhere else, especially the united states these days. that is profound, they failed. >> ainsley: brian interviewed a lady on the show and she was an activist and she said she was raised to hate jewish people. i want you to talk about the ideology and how we fight that. >> hamas as entity is just like isis and using palestinians and the palestinian people, babies, children, women to advance their agenda like isis. they hate jews, they hate israel and are willing to sam fies their own people to annihilate the state of israel. >> ainsley: they have been brainwashed since they were
5:17 am
children. cartoons teach them. they learn to do their math by saying, there are nine jews, if you kill five of them, how many are left? >> it is sad. i grew up in the military and i've been all over the world, yemen, pakistan, libya, iraq, afghanistan. young men and women, if the women are allowed, are taught to hate at a young age by all the religion leaders that are preaching this routinely. when you grow up that way, you are playing stab the jew, that is a game they play. that is alarming and that culture resonates and you get that antisemitism. when you have 30 student groups in harvard advocating for
5:18 am
hamas's position, you are representing a terrorist organization that kills innocent woman and children, that is mind-boggling and disturbing and something we should pay attention to. january 6, why pay attention to january 6 with the doj investigating and not paying attention to sympathizers are terrorists on the street of the united states. >> brian: we were not having pro-al qaeda rallies, we were not going pro-isis, we were against al qaeda and isis. you see jubilation after the attacks, it is crazy. i don't know how we got off track so much. >> this is not a militia or movement, this is terrorism. there is a binary difference, it is 1 or 0, they killed innocent
5:19 am
women and children. pay attention to that. the doj as analysts are analyzing open source information and could roll 1000 january 6 protesters, but not paying attention to people chants kill the jews. we need to deport those people if they are not american citizens and if they are, we need to be investigating those people. >> brian: we used to. >> lawrence: are you concerned with the guys wearing the star, their focus. the generals are worrying about wrong things, not worried about defeating terrorism, they are too woke and all this other stuff. >> my mind has changed a lot since my post-military
5:20 am
experience. i had an idea, i was in it rolling full steam ahead and understood priority of work. priority of work are counter terrorism, number one. joint special operation command has global pursuit of terrorists, number one priority and should always be. fact hamas has done this attack and we're doing right things politically and going to israel and making this campaign, we should be doing that. all these other things going on in the world, we should bring it down, collapse and get back to the focus. if not, based on a weak porous bo border, we are likely to see another september 11th. >> steve: talking about in
