the we are getting a statement in from the idf right now. they say a short while ago three hezbollah terrorists were identified in the area of the border with lebanon. idf aircraft struck the terrorists. additionally, we are learning from the military that israeli snipers took out gunmen that were along the border with lebanon. so, it gives you a sense of why they were telling civilians to shelter in place. clearly some infiltration attempts along the border and it does follow that rocket fire yesterday that drew an israeli response. now here on the southern front, the israelis continue to strike targets along the gaza strip. last hour saw it live here on "fox & friends" as the israeli warplanes were hitting targets on the eastern side of gaza and the northern part of the strip. we do expect in the coming days we will get more about that ground offensive that is looming, but i do want you to listen to this israeli colonel we spoke with who talked about the timing of all of this.
4:04 am
okay, we don't have assad for you there. but we spoke with the colonel yesterday who said this is going to take months. and it is significant when you look at the timing of everything because the soldiers here have to keep morale high. they understand this will be a difficult battle ahead. and the defense minister laid out the plans today for what israel will do. they first are going to try to enter and destroy as many weapons capabilities that hamas has as possible. and then ultimately get the security apparatus inside gaza handed over to someone else. this is not something that israel wants to maintain for the rest of the existence of the jewish state. ideally the egyptians or maybe the palestinian authority will step in. already we have seen the difficulty in getting any sort of deal done. if you look at the southern border crossing between gaza and egypt, it has been incredibly difficult just to get the humanitarian part to go through into gaza. i'm told we do have that from israeli colonel. take a listen to this. >> so this trucks are not just
