5:00 am
is happening in israel and we heard the president last night asking for aid for both areas. that cannot happen, we cannot send money and help with the fighting unless we have a speaker because the house has to vote. republicanings need to close in and come together like the democrats do and choose a speaker. >> brian: yesterday in the closed-door meeting gaetz got up and got screamed at by kevin mccarthy. he was told to sit down and booed. >> ainsley: he started all this. >> he said his irish got up. somebody else started cursing, i was the victim of a drunk uncle. people look at matt gaetz and say, what was your plan, the crazy eight, bring the whole country down, bring down the profile of the republicans. there was no plan and the reason
5:01 am
kevin mccarthy needed 15 rounds. >> ainsley: kevin mccarthy said i will not run, steve scalise said i'm out. jim jordan can't get votes. who else is there? newt gingrich or lee zeldin. >> lawrence: mccarthy is saying to give jim jordan some grace here. he's only been at this for a couple days, i had three months to prepare and get a consensus and it took me 10 rounds. >> ainsley: what don't they like about jim jordan? >> >> lawrence: i had a representative on and i try to get representatives to say what about jim jordan do you not like? go on record. they keep saying, we want to handle this behind closed doors. part of the method they are talking about, they want to do it behind closed doors in the caucus and jim jordan wants them
5:02 am
on the record to face constituents. >> brian: couple of things going on. number one, the reason why appropriations bills were not done, moderates have a different view than conservatives and he said before you become speaker, wo out things that stopped us before and get a consensus on what type of speaker you will be and how to get appropriations bills done and where to take the stand. i know that congressman we were talking to yesterday is for ukraine aid, he thinks it is important. jim jordan doesn't or doesn't seem to. matt gaetz doesn't want any. it wasn't they were lazy or wanted to tan in summer, they were not agreeing. >> lawrence: to lead to consensus. >> brian: they couldn't. if you need the four from new york, you could probably do it, but you are not close, why take a risky vote in purple district
5:03 am
for guy that is bright red conservative that might hurt my re-election if you are not close anyway. that is what lawry's point was. >> ainsley: he will take the podium in 30 seconds. it is 8:02, it is 8:00. he said after the second vote, we picked up some today, a couple dropped off, but they voted for me before, i think they'd come back again, we keep talking to memberings and working on it. >> lawrence: they said there is no budging for them. >> ainsley: have they been on the record and said that, all 20? >> lawrence: pretty much, majority of them that said -- to brian's point, a lot of them, including kay grainger, they don't agree with structure and this goes back to promises that republicanings made on the campaign trail, said they were going to return to regular order
5:04 am
and they have not done that. >> ainsley: you think they need to get in a room and not leave the room, order in food and stay in the room like sean hannity said until they have a speaker. don't they owe that to the american people? >> brian: who can stay in the room, there is nobody, mccarthy was closest and got 70 rs. i think we're about to see jim jordan walk in. there he is. >> thank y'all for coming. you know, a few years ago pauley and i got a call from friends live in dayton, ohio area. we live north of there. they asked if we were free to go to dinner a few nights later. they said, before we go to dinner, we're going to tour the wright brother's home. great. we enjoy history, let's learn about these amazing two americans. we go there and you pay the lady
5:05 am
at the door $5 from the historical society and you learn things about the wright brothers, the bicycle shop and gadgets and gizzmonths. fascinating tour. last stop is orville wright's bedroom and they tell you about this particular wright brother. then they close the tour by showing you two pictures. first picture they holdup, that first flight 1903 in kittyhawk, north carolina, in this thing they called a plane. first you see that and how did that thing get off the ground. the truth is, it barely did, flew 100 feet, got a few feet off the ground. you remember that picture from eighth or ninth grade when they teach that in school. i thought, that is amazing. they put that picture down and
5:06 am
holdup a second picture, 44 years later, 1947, chuck yeager breaking the sound barrier in a jet. i was like, wow, that i didn't know. amazing. 44 years few guys flying a couple feet to another american breaking sound barrier in a jet. that was end of the tour. they put that picture down and we are walking out and as we are walking out, it hit me. wait a minute, why did they stop there? i represent ohio, all of glaze county ohio, home town of neil armstrong, 22 years after chuck yeager break the sound barrier, steps on the moon. think about it. 66 years, one lifetime, from two guys flying 100 feet to putting a man on the moon. it is a great country, great country, greatest country made
5:07 am
of great people. those people, i think, are starting to doubt and wonder about their government and where our nation is headed. they see an open border. they see crime in the street and know what it cost to put gas in their car issue food on the table. they see a war in israel, our strongest ally israel and what is happening there and help israel need and see a government weaponized against we the people. the government supposed to serve us has turned on the taxpayers who pay for it. i think the american people are thirsty for change, hungry for leadership and frankly they know that the white house can't provide it. they know the senate won't lead and they are looking for house republicans to step up and lead and make change on these important issues. we got important work to do. important work to do. we need to help israel.
5:08 am
we need to get appropriations process moving so key elements are funding in the right way, textually our military, get back to committee work and frankly continue the oversight work that i think is so darn important. in short, we need to get to work for the american people. we need to do what we said we were going to do. we need to do what we told them when they elected us and put us in office, we can't do that if the house is not open and we can't open the house until we get a speaker. my favorite scripture verse second timothy 4:7, paul is old guy giving advice to young guy timothy, fight the good fight, finish the course, keep the faith. i tell folks, i love that verse because of the action in it. the word. americans aren't timid folks, they are people of action and word of that, fight, finish, keep the american spirit.
5:09 am
americans expect their government to fight for them. they expect us to finish our work. and they expect us to keep faith with the principles and values that made us the greatest nation ever. made us the nation going from wright brothers to neil armstrong, that we have to keep in mind and the attitude we have to have. quickest way to get working is to get a speaker elected, that is what i hope we can do today. i'll take your questions. >> good morning, layout your path. are you going to call roll call vote after roll call vote today and tomorrow into the weekend and try to wear your opponents down? >> stop. you said we were going to between first and second vote lose 10 to 15 votes, stayed same, picked up a few, lost a few, the ones we lost can come back. there have been multiple rounds of votes for speaker before, we all know that.
5:10 am
we need a speaker as soon as possible and get to work for the american people. thank you, congressman. to be clear, you plan to ride this out this weekend if we don't get votes today? secondly, president biden is sending $100 billion foreign aid package here, to congress, is that something -- >> you are making the case for why we need to keep the house open. can't vote on that, can't pass anything in that until we get the house open, i got to see the package. we certainly need to upon had israel. i got to see the package. we can't do that if the house is not open, more reason to get the house open as soon as possible. mr. jordan, what do you say to people of israel, prime minister netanyahu that you are not able to provide aid to israel because the house is so locked up. >> again, you are making my case. i got 200 votes, the speaker designee, the sooner we get thissish mr.ed, better for the
5:11 am
people of united states and the great state of israel. >> your conversation with members yesterday, were you able to get any that didn't support you to switch votes? >> we had a good conversation and we'll continue to do that. fastest way to get to work for the american people is to elect a speaker so the house can be open and get things done. >> i'll take a couple more. couple more. >> mr. chairman, thank you. congressman said that -- 2020 election and ask you two questions. one, what was your intent when you e-mailed memo to the chief of staff meadows -- >> just that. >> saying that should forego -- 2020 was stolen? >> i think there were all kind of problems with the 2020 election. the e-mail was argument for
5:12 am
donald rumsfeld, accomplished lawyer, i forwarded to him, all it was. >> can you walk through what is your plan this weekend, if you pick up any votes or lose votes? >> our plan this weekend is to get a speaker elected to house of representatives soon as possible to help american people. last one. >> what is your message for people of israel? >> we stand with them. >> you don't have votes to be speaker. >> we stand with israel, i've been there five times, amazing people and country, we need to help them by electing a speaker. thank you very much. >> lawrence: that was jim jordan. the speaker designee giving a pres conference about status of the speaker's race. doesn't look like he has support yet, brian and ainsley, not sure purpose of the press conference. he took questions, looks like he's trying to rally the troops.
5:13 am
>> ainsley: i like he had a press conference, being honest and telling the people what is going on, interesting way to open this press conference. we were not sure if he was pulling out or this is the status, this is where we are and i talked to the hold outs. he started this is great country, telling the story of wright brothers and touring the wright brother home. we have to have their attitude. mentioned second timothy, fight a good fight and finish the race and america is a good country. >> brian: okay, i don't know the point. everything we learned, we knew except jim jordan is not quiting and there is no steve scalise in the background, no kevin mccarthy about to happen, no congressman hurn. put me in coach. jim jordan says, use bible as inspiration to push myself over the finish line.
5:14 am
what bible are the other 20 using because they believe they are standing against jim jordan and don't seem to budge. we had two victoria sparks, not going to run for reelection, came to his side and congressman malfa, came over and he lost four more, ended 199, needs 217, democrats not budging. >> ainsley: we saw chad pergram, first question in the front row and chad joins us now to be on with us. what do you expect? will there be a vote today? he made it sound like they will come up with something over the weekend? >> that was my question to him. we will go in at 10:00, house meet at 10 and wouldn't have a vote until 11:00 and i tried to get mr. jordan to answer what the plan was, would they continue to go through roll call vote after roll call vote, he said we had lengthy elections
5:15 am
before, referring to what happened with kevin mccarthy, 15 rounds in january. what you don't see happening is ability by jim jordan to change the congressional physics. he met with be ms last night who were opposed to him and didn't move the ground whatsoever. yes, we're going to continue to try, we keep being told that number of no's might rise. he had 20 no's on tuesday. 22 on wednesday. it might go. i was told this would be escalatory, the word used, effort to have more votes against him in each succeeding roll call vote. people turn around and say what are you doing here mr. jordan, they want to see where the votes are. he had a meeting with john rutherford, republican yesterday he said he demonstrated his lack of leadership with how he treated steve scalise. mike lawler, republican, walked
5:16 am
out of the meeting yesterday saying we need to empower patrick mchenry and get the house open. jim jordan kept saying get the house open and do the people's business and address the middle east crisis. they could do that if they were to elect speaker pro tem. i think what jim jordan is trying to do, prevent that effort by david joyce, republican from ohio, what want to give the house more time and empanel patrick mchenry to have the power. they have done this before. i talked last hour, in the early 1960'ses after sam rayburn, the speaker died and empowered john mccormack to be the speaker and passed major legislation, including creation of the peace corps during that time. you can do that. patrick mchenry can't do that as just acting speaker pro tem, if you were to elect him and might
5:17 am
have coalition of democrats and republicans come together and this would go to the front of the legislative line. nothing jim jordan or patrick mchenry can do to side swipe this and probably have a cocktail if democrats and republicans vote for them. >> lawrence: it doesn't look like that has support of leadership from my understanding steve scalise did not support that. elise stefanik did not support that and jim jordan did not support that. >> he did one point yesterday. >> brian: i thought so, too. >> it is hard to read, they changed their position so many times. he came in yesterday morning at 11 and said, i will not continue my bid, not have a roll call vote today and i support the effort with patrick mchenry and three hours later they said there would be a vote last night and there wasn't, now there will be a vote this morning. if i have whiplash here, you
5:18 am
will understand. that is the problem the republicans have, one member put this, i think jim banks, republican of indiana, said there is no leadership right now. something interesting a member shared with me late last night indicated to me said when kevin mccarthy the former speaker, comes to talk to the conference, everybody gets really quiet. i asked could they possibly elect kevin mccarthy the speaker pro tem. they said, no, they don't think that is possible. anything is possible and he does not seem to have the vote. >> brian: quote to close from michael waltz, we're in unchartered territory as country in the middle of a middle east war. i'm a veteran, if you blowup a bridge, you better have another one to cross. those eight did not have another one to cross. there was no plan, chad. that is why we're in this place. they just want to blow things up, they don't have a plan.
5:19 am
>> ainsley: chad, it matters to americans because we can't give aid to israel. >> lawrence: can't do anything. >> ainsley: can't pass anything without a speaker. >> chad: that is right, you had antony blinken meeting with mitch mcconnell yesterday, chuck schumer democratic leader said they will start that package there. there is more support for bundling ukraine and israeli bill together. they did pass a bill with 300 votes, more republicans voted no than yes, just for ukraine in late september. there is support in the house of representative, the senate could try to jam the house and house have no say. may try to get the speaker pro tem or jim jordan, take it or leave it. would jim jordan stand in the way because the president asked for so much money for ukraine.
5:20 am
they can't do anything until they get a speaker and he failed to change votes as john rutherford leaving the meeting, this was not about changing our minds, the opponents were trying to get him to change his mind. >> brian: he is a military officer. they are determined to ruin your weekent, we will make them vote and get a speaker today. >> chad: i've been here two of the last three weekends, this is hotel california, you can check out any time you want, you can never leave. >> lawrence: thanks, chad. >> ainsley: unrest in the west bank, there is fire and there is smoke. i believe we have live pictures. are these live pictures? asking the control room. you see smoke, fire, the west bank and looks like tankers in the background, people walking around. israel defense force said it made several arrests overnight in west bank, capturing 20
5:21 am
operatives and killing another 12. president biden calls on congress to send more aid to ukraine and israel, even though we don't have a speaker. >> president biden: hamas and putin share this in common, they both want to annihilate neighboring democracy. completely annihilate it. >> brian: humanitarian aid on the egyptian side of the rafah border crossing and united nations plan to get trucks in. they want to send 20 trucks. >> lawrence: trey yingst and tim kennedy live. first we go to jacqui heinrich with what is happening at the white house. president will bring a package today.
5:22 am
>> jackie: the white house believes there is support for multiple national security objectives, sending urgent request for $105 million aid package. the president underscoring why this is necessary investment. >> hamas and putin are different threat, share this in common, they want to annihilate neighboring country. it will pay dividends for generations, keep troops out of harm's way, build a world that is prosperous for our children and grand children. >> jackie: money for israel, border security, humanitarian assistance, but bulk of the money would go to ukraine and expected to of coer them for about a year, votes for small packages has become difficult. some in the senate took issue with the president's delivery.
5:23 am
>> why is joe biden going on national television and selling people on a ukrainian escalation when joe biden is talking about the terrible tragedy in israel. it is a separate country and separate problem. what the president did is disgraceful. if he wants to sell the american people on 60 billion more to ukraine, should not use dead israeli children to do it, it was disgusting. >> jackie: getting this aid package passed in congress is facing uncertain timeline with no speaker in the house. >> brian: heard. >> lawrence: real quickly before i let you go, i saw the white house statement about special operator photo of the delta force. it was insufficient, are we going to hear anything about the soldiers? their identity is now out for the terrorists overseas, many they have killed themselves.
5:24 am
is the white house going to address this >> jackie: so far all we heard about this is an apology and acknowledgement that the photo was taken down. i would expect there will be questions they have to answer about this at the next briefing and over the coming days. this was a very big mistake that could have real consequences for human lives. >> lawrence: right. >> brian: 23 after the hour, to live pictures of the unrest on the west bank. go to trey yingst live on the ground in southern israel. hi, trey. >> trey: good morning. live pictures are very significant amid developments this morning out of southern and northern israel. it shows israelis are starting to face a third front in the west bank overnight in the city of corum. you have protest in the street
5:25 am
of ramallah. the images from inside gaza and information and disinformation coming out of the gaza strip is affecting the entire region. you want to get to breaking news from the gaza border. in the distance, we've been watching and i'll show you video shot by the cameraman along the border, you see destruction in this video. fox's camera capturing israeli airstrikes as rockets come you hava the gaza strip, 7300 have been fired since the october 7 massacre and continue to target central israel 14 days into the conflict. israelis continue airstrikes and have been taking out top hamas officials from the military and political wing of the organization as the anticipation grows ahead of that expected ground operation. we did speak with an israeli colonel to get an idea of how long that operation might take.
5:26 am
take a listen. >> furious. right now we have a national, historical mission to do, clear gaza from hamas regime. mention these pictures encourage us to do the right thing and convince us that we should be prepared for a long battle. >> trey: we should be prepared for a long battle, you heard the colonel there in southern israel. the battle likely not to just take place in the south, along the northern border with lebanon. more information coming in just now, israelis are using artillery to hit southern lebanon following attacks by hezbollah earlier today. they used an airstrike to kill hezbollah militants after they
5:27 am
fired into israeli territory. back to you. >> brian: that is pretty significant. to reiterate, in the north, something must be coming across, they told 22,000 people to leave that town and go into some townhouses provided by the government. they might have news hezbollah may be going more offensive? >> trey: yeah, absolutely, they cleared kiryat shmona. they saw what happen with the slaughter of the civilians and worry those civilians will be the first killed if ground war erupts in the north and there have been missiles fired into the israeli territory this past week. there is concern and plans in
5:28 am
place to get people out of the way and active fighting we've been monitoring for the border between israel and lebanon. you see smoke rise from the horizon, israelis responding with airstrike and drone strike and artillery along the border. >> ainsley: bring in tim kennedy, his resume, army ranger, sniper, special forces and co-founder of save our allies, saved people in afghanistan and ukraine and now trying to save some hostages. tim, tell us the latest. >> it has been heartbreaking, we are in ashkelon, north of gaza, the most rocketed city in all of israel. over 1000 rockets this week. you hear drones overhead. we were in egypt earlier this morning to figure out how they will get people out of the rafah gates. tens of thousands will come out,
5:29 am
american hostages and refugees, it is a mess. one of the scariest thing is temperament around israel. being in egypt, it was difficult to move through the border and two to be an american going into egypt related to knowa israel crisis. it is difficult here. >> brian: what do you mean difficult for you, people gave you a hard time to let you in or try to intimidate you? >> hard question to answer. we're in bearsheba yesterday talking to police units, they had to respond to the area on the east side of gaza, they lost one quarter of everyone in their department was injured, is missing still or was killed in the fighting. you can see the despair and brokenness in them and things they saw on the ground. the difficulty, the logistics, not being able to move and
5:30 am
figure out how to fill the gaps in between all the aid coming in and where we best use and how we need it here. difficult is the only way to describe the emotional damage to see the pain in these people's eyes issue these women and children were so horrifically killed and tortured. it is difficult. >> lawrence: tim, you were on the ground before the administration was on the ground to evacuate the americans that are there. how many americans are we talking about you have to evacuate? >> the days immediately following the terrorist attack by hamas, we were flying people on private planes via haifa. they are running constant flights. remembering the men and women that do the work, mr. rogers said look to people doing the work and people trying to help.
5:31 am
people here from the american government were doing amazing stuff. first few days, it was hard, people were hiding in bunkers and too scared to leave the position they were at after seeing the videos coming out. we had to physically find those people and escort them to be flown out. that was like flying on a one-propellor airplane from haifa to cypress. >> brian: there asatellite phots of people gathering. they don't mind giving away their position. i guess the word is first you get the bulldozers, tanks, troops, would you subscribe to that theory? >> yeah, but as you know, when you are fighting insurgency,
5:32 am
there is bio-traps, they are hiding behind hostages and civilians. we are just north of gaza, you can hear the drone. they do every war crime we are not allowed to do, that is what they do. they are pure evil and they have had control of palestinian for too long. gaza's control as these poor, incredible soldiers, brave men and women going into gaza, every inch they will have to fight for in the most barbaric ways possible. those people, hamas, evil demons, fighting every corner to try to do the most evil type of warfare you can imagine. >> ainsley: tim, what are the chances of us getting these americans? 11 unaccounted for and the hostages, chance of going in and saving them in all of your experience? >> you want the jessica buchanan
5:33 am
instance when they kill the terrorists and rescue the american. that is not going to be the case. expectation management. there is desire for hostages, the things they have experienced, because of brutality, absolute evil carnage, the things they did to victims they murdered here are indescribable, unconscionable, that is what the idf will have to fight through to find hostages. make no mistake, hamas will kill these people in an instant, hide behind them, throw grenades at them. they launched the rocket attack from hospital, launched from civilian locations in hope the idf will respond and more civilians will be damaged, that is what hamas does. >> lawrence: u.s. military, special forces, been training with israelis for a long time.
5:34 am
you guys specialize in hr hostage rescue. do you think there will come a point talking about american hostages, they will need help of the american military to get this done, to get hostages? >> the motto of save our allies, here i am, send me. they heard the voice of the lord, they responded, here i am, send me. every soldier will raise their hand and fight street by street like we did in fallujah. nobody better. special units are most incredible war fighters and that will be the hardest war idf has ever seen. >> brian: factor in something else, turns out hamas has a spokesperson located in lebanon. osama hamdan says this, they
5:35 am
don't know how many hostages they have and say islamic jihad have some of them, at least 30. they say there will be separate request for citizens of other countries for the israelis, military and regular. they are looking to exchange some of the 1100 prisoners the israelis have. having set moving parts, where do you start in trying to get them back alive. >> an amazing book called "the new rules of war" talk about how difficult this new type of war is, non-state actors that are proxies for iran. that coward hiding in the war zone is not with his guys fighting for his promise land. hamas does not care about the palestinians, they are like oligarchs and he's in a different place, probably a villa. to that, the trying to
5:36 am
negotiate, the president of jordan, they captured one of their pilots and burned that guy alive, the president of jordan went and got everybody single isis person he had and hung every one of them. you cannot negotiate, they do not recognize any form of trade, they want to win and hurt people. >> ainsley: the white house tweeted this picture of biden meeting special forces, their faces were not blurred out, what does that mean? will they work again and how much danger did that put their families or themselves? >> first, everybody that works within the government is human, fallible, all of us. men and women on the ground are most incredible men and women i've had opportunity to work with, we are still human. that is a devastating mistake, our identities while you are
5:37 am
working especially in as operator undercover, you have to keep your -- who you are protected and hidden. those men are in jeopardy. groups like hamas and hezbollah and isis-k, al qaeda, all branches looking for opportunities to take a face, get a name, figure out who their families are and start attacking these people. israel has been experiencing this for decades. >> lawrence: 45 years. tim, 45 years, this has never happened to delta force and now happens now. >> they are the most elite fighting force on the planet, second to none. professionalism and capability truly the most -- if you walk next to those men, you are walking next to giants. it is heartbreaking, men that have dedicated so much of their
5:38 am
lives to this idea of service and being part of the department of defense and special operation unit on the planet, in history of mankind, that is who these men are and they are vulnerable because of mistake. >> brian: something you said, when they burned that pilot alive in a cage and jordan came and hung every isis prisoner they had, that builds on the guy i talked to yesterday whose dad co-founded hamas and said israel can't worry about the pr, explain it later. the people you are going up against are the most brutal ever and it will take that type of mentality, you can't win a pr war and beat them. that is what it will take to be successful. he said, don't go in the tunnels issue not sure if this is against rules of war, put in poison gas and kill them all. if you go down there, they are prepared to die and prepared to
5:39 am
kill you and it will be hard to get out. should we get used to be successful, do we have to get as brutal as they are or are we going to continue to fight the pr, lose the pr and lose the battles? >> yeah. we are a just nation, a nation of law and does the most remarkable things. we climb cliffs, storm beaches, we hear jews are being killed during the holocaust, we will go and kill everybody that stands in the way to free them. do i want to fight the way they do? no. do we have the appetite to do what we have to win the war? we do not. american people do not understand what happens in war. what happens in war is worst thing one set of humans could do to another set of humans. hamas is pure evil and it is unconscionable the things they will do to win. not that we need to do those things, he is right, if you
5:40 am
worry about the propaganda or public relation fall out from you having to fight in war to win a war, you are destined to lose the war. you have to fight the fight to win that fight with no other thing on your mind. if i'm running toward gunfire, i'm not thinking about the camera or the next person judging me. i have to win that fight and that is what they have to do, fight inch by inch to win and nothing else but to destroy the enemy trying to destroy them. from the jordan, from the river to the sea, palestinian will be free, that is a call for genocide. a call to kill everyone in the way and every single jew here in israel. israel has to fight for their existence right now. >> brian: they were chanting that in new york city. >> ainsley: gas the jews in sydney, death to america, wipe israel off the face of the earth. >> brian: they will be holding civilians in front of them while
5:41 am
trying to kill guys like tim kennedy. >> ainsley: thank you for everything you do. >> lawrence: appreciate it, tim. up next, shannon bream's take on president biden address last night, that is next. my a1c was up here; now, it's down with rybelsus®. his a1c? it's down with rybelsus®. my doctor told me rybelsus® lowered a1c better than a leading branded pill
