>> the failure to teach this story to our college kids, high school kids. we've seen protest test yesterday is what's leading us to some of the anti-semitism and young people standing with hamas. >> brian: they might know the story and don't care. >> ainsley: how can a group of do this to other human beings? if you are a mother, you know how much you love your child. to know a group of human beings has stolen these children, god knows what is happening to them in gaza, and that's why we need to pray for them and eradicate the evil. >> brian: 30 of these hostages are kids and a lot of them are senior citizens. incredible. >> it's all about how we respond to this. catch brian's show on saturday as well as radio right now. >> brian: radio in four seconds. see you. >> ainsley: pray for israel. >> we need to get a speaker as

jacque heinrich at the white house but we begin with trey yengst. >> anticipation is growing around that expected israeli ground offensive that could come in the next few hours or days. right now we're along the israel/gaza border and watching as the israelis strike gaza and more rocket fire continues to southern and central israel. i will step out of the frame and have my cameraman pan into the gaza strip. you will see some of the buildings along gaza. the israelis have been targeting different hamas positions with thousands of air strikes. since it began on october 7th it is remarkable 14 days into this conflict the factions inside gaza, hamas and islamic jihad still have the ability to fire an central israel. air raids sounding to the west jerusalem today. you will see video we shot

earlier, a destroyed mosque. the air strikes are pummeling gaza hitting the positions on the northern and eastern part of the strip in preparation for that expected ground operation. we spoke with an israeli colonel over the past 24 hours to get an idea what is to come and how long the ground operation might deck. i want you to listen to what he had to say. >> right now we have a national historical mission to do which is to clear gaza from hamas regime. these pictures encourage us to do the right thing and convince us that we should be prepared for a long battle. >> be prepared for a long battle. that is the word of a top colonel in southern israel as this looming offensive hangs over the heads of so many soldiers here in the southern part of the country.
6:05 am
i do want to shift our attention north where right now as we speak israeli artillery is pounding hezbollah targets in the southern part of lebanon. this in response to small arms fire and mortar fire earlier today. the israeli military telling fox news that three hezbollah operatives were killed in an air strike after they attacked northern israel. back to you. >> gillian: trey yengst in southern israel for us this hour. thank you. >> shannon: moments before the president's address american forces were targeted in iraq and baghdad. strikes against u.s. troops escalating in the middle east as the israel, hamas war intensifies. jonathan hunt is live with the latest. >> good morning. this is the latest attack in a series against u.s. assets in the region. this one confirmed by u.s. officials, perhaps coincidentally and perhaps not happening at 2:50 a.m. local
6:06 am
time in iraq. that would have been 7:50 p.m. in washington, d.c. just before president biden walked into the oval office last night to address the nation. the rockets were fired at a military base used by u.s. and coalition forces near baghdad international airport. u.s. defense official telling fox quote, initial assessments indicate two rockets were fired, one was intercepted by a counter rocket system and the other impacted an empty storage facility. there were no casualties reported. there are also reports of another attack, rockets and drones in this case on another base in western iraq this time that houses u.s. and other forces. and those attacks, of course, follow others on wednesday in iraq and syria all happening since the war between israel and hamas was sparked by the attacks of october 7th.
6:07 am
u.s. officials say the attacks will not deter any u.s. mission. >> take all necessary actions to defend u.s. and coalition forces against any threat. any response should one occur will come in a time and manner of our choosing. >> there are bad actors and risks throughout that region. yesterday u.s. naval assets in the red sea took down three missiles fired by houthi rebels south in yemen. now those missiles were not directed at the u.s. naval ships. more likely they were headed for israel. but they just show that the u.s. has a lot of potential targets there down in the red sea and off of the west coast in tea mediterranean. isis remnants in iraq and syria. president assad in syria. no friend to the u.s. since he was named a pariah president in

america? history taught us when terrorists don't pay a price for their terror, when dictators don't pay a price for their aggression they cause more chaos and death and more destruction. >> we'll get details on the 105 billion he is requesting from congress in about a half hour. the bulk to ukraine. expected to sustain them for a year as getting more frequent packages through congress has become difficult and also fund israel's defense, border security, taiwan, threats to the indo pacific and support assistance. indications from lawmakers this might not fail through congress not only because we don't have a house speaker house. cotton supports israel and ukraine he expects much of this will have to be changed in the proposal to insure it serves american interests especially amid concern the humanitarian aid been announced for gaza might not reach the people it's intended for. >> hamas is the government of gaza and we're not going to
6:10 am
grant billions of dollars in aid that will be resupply for terrorist groups. we talked about what we do to address the situation at the border. we need to make legal changes. we won't spend billions to put illegal aliens up in a new york city hotel. >> expect to get the details at 9:30 and see the president later on this morning before he is expected to head to delaware for the weekend. >> gillian: jacque heinrich at the white house. >> shannon: let's bring in former secretary of state mike pompeo. good to see you this morning, sir. >> good morning. good to be with you. >> shannon: i want to play a little bit of what president biden said last night. he did mention iran. here is what he said. >> president biden: iran is supporting russia in ukraine and supporting hamas, and other terrorist groups in the region and we'll continue to hold them accountable, i might add.
6:11 am
>> shannon: your reaction to that. he admits they are bad actors. we know what they are funding and fueling but says he will continue to hold them accountable. a lot of people are skeptical that's been the case. >> shannon, his remarks struck the right tone, that is to say this matters to americans deeply, what is happening in europe, a ground war, what's happening in the middle east, atrocities against the jewish people and effort to wipe them off the state that is rightfully theirs. that tone part he got right. sitting behind the resolute desk you have to be resolute. he was none of that. he mentioned iran, you are right. credit for that. he has done nothing to hold the regime accountable. he has done just the reverse of that. iran has $70 billion. when he took office they had $6 billion. it's the money, license, the green light this administration gave to the iranian regime that puts us in the place we are.
6:12 am
shannon, the other thing i didn't here is we have 30 americans killed. he roughly passed on that. we have hostages, american hostages held. more hostages being held by iran today of americans than we had when he gave them $6 billion in ransom a couple weeks back. passivity, weakness, your adversaries don't fear it. two wars started in 2 1/2 years. when president biden speaks to the nation about what he is going to do, i think it strikes hollow. i hope he gets this right. i hope he puts america back on its front foot. if we do that we can deter iran and vladimir putin but it will demand real leadership from the white house. >> gillian: this is gillian. president biden last night in his remarks also reflected on the sort of environment here in the united states following on 9/11. take a listen to this and i want to get your reaction.
6:13 am
>> president biden: when i was in israel yesterday, i said that when america experienced the hell of 9/11, we felt enraged as well while we sought and got justice we made mistakes. i caution the government of israel not to be blinded by rage. >> gillian: mr. secretary, is israel the side in this war that needs to be cautioned against rage? >> that line was unbelievable. i'm still angry about what happened to america that day. i have not forgotten that or when we loss 13 americans in afghanistan due to the same understanding of evil that i think the biden administration lacks. they don't get there are bad actors in the world. when we have a friend in israel we ought not caution them. they will be in a long battle not just in gaza, a long battle across the country. they will be in a battle to save
6:14 am
their nation from what the palestinian want. they want to march to the river from the sea and wipe them out. we should be providing them the tools that they need. we should be full throated in their support and not tell them what to do. if we get it wrong it will reflect badly on america for decades. the person told not to have rage is the people who have declared the second day of rage, the iranian regime and political islamists that want to do harm not just in israel but across the world >> shannon: let me ask you. there are concerns for aid getting to people that need it. the white house has talked about this $1 hundred million dollars they want to pour into egypt through gaza. real concerns whether it gets to the people or ends up in the hands of hamas. do you feel we have the structures in place and tracking in place to make sure it gets to people who desperately need it? >> shannon, there are no
6:15 am
structures. this is handing it over to the u.n. and hope that hamas gives it to the people that need it. the chance anyone believes that will happen, these folks who raped women and slit throats of babies, any chance those folks will take food and fuel that they can use for the military arsenal and give it to people suffering? no, there is no chance that happens. this administration has fundamentally misunderstood the iranian regime. they have empowered them by giving them money. now give them another $1 hundred million in so-called humanitarian assistance? it will neither be humanitarian and actually harm our israeli friends by giving tools, power, capability to the very people who on october 7th tried to wipe them from the face of the earth. >> gillian: yesterday president biden confirmed that hamas and islamic jihad launched a rocket out of their own territory that failed. it resulted in an attack, it
6:16 am
dropped on a hospital or in the parking lot resulting in the deaths of more than 100 palestinians on tuesday. how is this different than a regime like assad in syria who gases his own civilians? >> gillian, it is no different. the hamas leadership doesn't care about the civilians for which they are the governing authority. indeed, when they have their own civilians killed they use it as a propaganda tool. they use them as human propaganda machines. so it is no different. i think the biden administration needs to take that on board. this evil is not going away unless america stands up and defends the things that have mattered to this country for 250 years. gillian, i saw this when i was the secretary of state i saw us losing deterrents against iran. we took serious measures,

imposed real costs on the regime. a strike on solomony. when you get on your back foot we never -- we have the chinese communist party rattling sabres, conflict at embassies across the world. we have the capacity to prevent further escalation and saving american lives. >> gillian: we have to leave it there. thank you for taking time with us this morning. >> gillian and shannon thank you both. bless you. >> shannon: mike tobin live from southern israel. hello, mike. >> i want to show you the israeli defense forces something some of the weapons they seized off the hamas invaders. this is an efp and designed it produces a pinpoint hit of molten metal penetrating the

>> shannon: live pictures of some things going on around the world. look at the streets in yemen. you can see there are thousands, maybe more tens of thousands out there protesting in the streets. that is another foreign policy hot spot and headache in administration and leaders of freedom around the world have to deal with. that's the feeling there this morning at 4:24 p.m. their time. >> gillian: u.s. navy warship shot down three missiles believed to be targeting israel
6:26 am
as missiles were fired by the houthi rebels out of yemen. they hijacked the government there. iran has repeatedly warned israel could face more and more deadly attacks over the coming days. the pentagon is laser focused on trying to deter iran from entering this conflict on the grounds directly. bring in colonel davis joining us now. the u.s. shot down these missiles believed to be targeting israel by houthi rebels in yemen. how significant is that? >> it's significant because they were fired at all. they have the capacity to fire. those were cruise missiles with 2,000 miles of range on them and they were shot down. we don't know where they were going but it was possible they could have been going into targets in israel. so it's good we shot those down. the last thing we need is for this war to expand. i think that's one of the biggest issues, the biggest thing the administration has is to make sure this is contained in gaza and doesn't expand where
6:27 am
it could cause america to have to go to war. that's what we need to focus on. >> shannon: we talked about the north and lebanon and the incursions and hezbollah. that's a different beast equipped in a different way. another front that israel or other free world doesn't need to be open. >> that's the company to whether it expands or not. does hezbollah come in? they said their plan is to engage a new northern front against israel if israel goes into gaza. they have to know if they go into gaza they need to be prepared for a second front and we have actually the former hamas leader yesterday television saying we want hezbollah to come in on our case. we want iran to come in further. three pleading to this active resistance all over the middle east to join the fight. they want to expand it. we want to keep it contained. >> gillian: if you look back over the last few days, colonel, you have seen u.s. military assets directly attacked in

iraq, syria. you've seen protestors assault u.s. embassies and consulates around the middle east. it would appear that to citizens of the middle east the u.s. is just as much part of the public facing in this war as israel is. how do you move forward? >> gillian, i have been saying on fox news for years that our troops in syria and iraq do nothing for american national security but it keeps them a target of opportunity for these violent groups. now you are seeing the potential risks america faces because so far we've been lucky. none of the drones or attacks have killed americans. but the minute one does and tie it back to iran we have to respond to americans killed. we can't turn a blind eye to americans getting killed. we don't need them just sitting in the desert wondering if they get killed next time. that's a potential we have to be
6:29 am
careful about. >> shannon: 30 americans killed with hamas october 7th and beyond that. how do we respond to that? we actually do -- some people would argue we are at war with these groups. american lives and those missing and hostages. >> it's true. what we have to do is protect americans that aren't killed yet and make sure it doesn't go further. we need to deter iran. our own intelligence, israeli intelligence said they don't see any direct planning by iran for this. we don't want to airan to start a war. pompeo said we need to deter iran and not to actually go to war with them. that would be catastrophic. we don't need that. israel doesn't need that. >> gillian: two nuclear powers fighting a ground war. >> shannon: it sounds world

some college and university diversity programs designed to eliminate discrimination and hate are actually fueling the fire. dr. lee is a former dei director at a college, a public community college in california. dr. lee, thank you for being with us. talk to me about what you see as being behind a lot of the anti-israel and anti-jewish sentiment we're seeing on campuses. >> thank you for having me on today. unfortunately what we're seeing is toxic ideology guiding a lot of the dei programs on our american college campuses. this ideology is rooted in critical social justice instead of the classical social justice which most of us are familiar with when we hear that term. critical social justice really does look at putting people in identity boxes based on race and

gender. it sees people as victims or oppressors. it sees us as a perpetual struggle or power and privilege and focuses on oppression instead of human agency and free will and all those things that you would associate with classical social justice like equality of opportunity. instead we see the focus on the equality of outcomes in the critical social justice ideology. and in this rootedness something i discovered as i worked at the college was deeply entrenched anti-semitism is that there is this view of jewish people as white oppressors which is historically inaccurate and twisted narrative needs to have in order to not focus in on authentic jewish inclusion. not happening at just a few

universities but several across the nations. >> gillian: jews have been accused of being white opsors, minority oppressors. it comes in fits and spurts the way people like to discriminate against jews here in america. take a listen to this. this problem is not in any one location. here on the east coast georgetown students are speaking out about a distinct sense of anti-semitism in their classrooms. >> as soon as the terrorist attacks occurred it become a hostile environment for jewish students. people are scared to go to class. you have to sit next to classmates posting anti-semitic rhetoric and rallies that spew anti-semitic rhetoric. the universities are not stepping up and they are staying silent. >> gillian: what's the appropriate thing for university administrators to do in the face of these anti-israel protests?
6:55 am
>> the appropriate thing. some can debate. if you take notice, there were all of these solidarity statements issued by colleges and universities. as the students noted so many are silent. they have been silent. they are silent as the over 200 hostages are taken from their homes. innocent civilians, babies, children, really just mothers, fathers, civilian people who were taken, silence from these universities who tell us that, you know, silence equals violence, right? that's one of the critical social justice slogans. they are very silent. they are doing the opposite. we see the protests and they aren't protests, they are celebrations celebrating the actions of a terrorist group hamas and, you know, what's happening there in israel.

and it is so unfortunate to see that. toxic ideology. >> gillian: we are coming against a hard break here and have to say goodbye. thank you for joining us. we appreciate your insight and expertise. >> shannon: heading to the hill. as we await action on another speaker vote by the house gop we hear from top democrats hakeem jeffries talking with reporters ahead of what will be potentially a very momentous, busy day on the hill. let's listen and see if we can hear from him. >> from the very beginning of the republic going back to 1789. and by the way, who created jim jordan? who normalized jim jordan? who is about to nominate jim jordan? that's clear. >> are you okay if they were to go ahead and elect a speaker pro tem as they did in the early 60s

after the house so they could operate. you are saying that type of option is on the table and something you would be okay with because of -- >> all options are on the table to get the house back open so we can do the business of the american people. >> is mchenry the only name in that conversation? >> no. >> who are the others? are there other names? >> i think you have to ask the other side of the aisle who they are willing to put forward. >> if every democrat went to the floor and voted for a republican today, you could probably find a handful of republicans who would join you organically in the moment. would you take that step? >> for a republican to be speaker of the snooze we have to have a real conversation what it would look like. >> is it a challenge that -- >> let's be clear. we have said repeatedly for the last two weeks that we are ready, willing and able to find

a bipartisan path forward to enter into a partnership with our republican colleagues to reopen the house and get the business of the american people done, to solve problems for hard working american taxpayers. we just need some traditional republicans to join us. instead of rejecting bipartisanship, they need to stop embracing extremism. >> thank you. >> is there any scenario -- >> shannon: you have been hearing from the top democrat in the house hakeem jeffries and chad pergram will give us an update in a second. he was asking questions here as you heard a number of the reporters saying is there a coalition that can come together? who can democrats support? would you allow patrick mchenry. he will fill us in, too.

doesn't sound like leader jeffries has any solution they have not fought over on the hill. >> gillian: doesn't look like it will come to a conclusion any time soon. looks like january is still on the table for a new speaker election. >> shannon: we think they'll go for a third round for jim jordan. chad pergram. our brain on capitol hill bit and knows the history involved. catch us up to speed, chad. >> what's going to happen in 2 or 3 minutes the house of representatives will come into session and they will first go to a quorum call to determine how many people are here and have the nominating speeches for the third round as speaker. that's what they will do. we expect jim jordan to possibly lose that involvement he has shown attrition on each roll call vote he had so far. we anticipate that he would lose more votes today. jim jordan held a press conference at 8:00 this morning

saying he will stick in the race and try to keep members here and vote after vote after vote to try to wear the other side down. he had a meeting with the 20 or so opponents that he has last night and made 0 progress. they say there is nothing they can offer. they said you have gone a bridge too far for us in terms of how you treated steve scalise. he had one of his allies this morning, scott perry, basically poe poeing some of the death threats the members have had. he said we're members, this is what scott perry said. we get death threats all the time and called it a red herring why some of the members were unwilling to support jim jordan. the number could grow later today. the danger for both sides, democrats and republicans. it is dangerous and what i asked hakeem jeffries a few minutes ago if he would be able to have all of his members here on every single roll call vote throughout the weekend because it is about the math. we don't know the magic number
