opening a second front in the war. joey: this comes after the idf hit several iranian backed terror hubs in lebanon overnight. at least 15 communities across israel's northern border are under evacuation orders. rachel: to the you south, a second round of aid may make its way into gaza, a convoy of 17 trucks is currently on the egyptian side of the rafah crossing, awaiting permission to cross. pete: overnight, idf says it has taken out a senior hamas commander. joey: the israelis are ramping up you attacks with troops and armor on stand by for a looming ground invasion. rachel: let's go to mike tobin who spoke to a parent of one of the hostages being held by the terror group. mike, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, rachel, good morning, joey and pete. let's first start out talking about what we see here on the

ground close to the gaza strip. the number one question we get all the time and we turn it to the idf is when will the ground invasion start. the spokesperson said they'll start the ground invasion at a time, place and manner of their choosing. something unique happened today and that is something very rare. an israeli air strike into the west bank, the israelis fired on a mosque in the best wank in the town of janine, the mosque was followed up with ground forces, developed intelligence that a cell was operating out of the mosque. the idf called the mosque a ticking time bomb and the cell accord offing to the idf was eliminated in a chamber under underneath the mosque. the idf arrested some 450 hamas operatives in the west bank since october 7. the release of natalie and judith raanan is welcome nice wwelcome news.a son has been mie

october 7th and presumed to be a hostage, he says the move by hamas doesn't necessarily give him optimism that his son will be released, he believes it's a tactic. >> this move of by hamas is very val craigslisted in terms of -- very calculated in terms of when and who is being released. i don't think it's an indication of any kind about what is going to happen moving forward with the other hundreds of hostages that are still being held. i think it's part of their you attempt at psychological p manipulation of the israeli public. >> reporter: rachel talked about those 17 trucks on the egyptian side of the border a short time ago. those a-trucks got through, you have 17 trucks moving in today, 20 trucks moved in yesterday. they're limited to carrying food, water and medicine. they're not allowed to carry fuel, not allowed to take

supplies above the evacuation line that has been drawn in gaza, about halfway down the gaza strip, with the idea that none of the supplies are supposed to make it to hamas operatives themselves. the estimate as far as hostages go is now 212, that does change just about every day, 100 people are missing and israel says some 307 israeli soldiers have been killed since october 7. back to you. pete: thank you very much for that update, that report, really appreciate it. the hostages are yet another variable, a complicating point, joe see. we talked about this imminent ground invasion, you've got hostages there as well. we talk about relief not going in the northern part of gaza. when you look at a ground invasion in the north of gaza, from an infantry trooper spec testify, what should we be thinking about. joey: this is urban war sphaer. if they use ieds, they'll be
6:05 am
set before israeli defense forces get there. some of the other things to look at, all the buildings that have standing are sniper positions, some of the ones that aren't, if you can get elevation on your enemy, you have the high ground. the high ground usually wins, sniper positions, places like this is a choke point. i'll draw it here for a second. if israel is coming in this way, this is a choke point because if they want to go that way or that way, they have to go through the intersection. choke points are used by the enemy, they booby trap those because they know you'll probably go there. pete: you'll have direct fire trained on choke points as well. joey: drones were not a part of our war. we had them for surveillance -- pete: if you heard a drone that was a good thing. joey: that is another element. chances are they're not coming in through the air. with the high elevations, enemy can hide, hit them with a rocket, take a plane or of helicopter out. pet.pete: another dynamic is thr
6:06 am
rain. is theterrain. let's move forward to the next -- just sort of a graphic example, joey. this is a portion of gaza as it looks more or less today, talk us through this. joey: we talked about this earlier. i want to go you through a different point now. say they clear their way into town coming from this direction, don't know where this is, fairly hypothetical. they're going to take a long time to get there, dealing with all types of hazards along the way. the p enemy sees that, has time to stage bombs, ieds, people if their objective is over here and they have to clear through a laid waste area, what that has become is camoflague. that is now cam plage for -- camoflague for all types of weapons. you could have a directional charge in the rubble that is eye level. they get through troop carriers, they get out, start clearing buildings, next thing you know in the rubble a black box turns
6:07 am
into a giant fragmentation. pete: could be pressure detonated. one thing that j joey pointed o, house to house clearing is not the type of thing where you walk down the street and check the buildings. if you want it to be clear at the squad and platoon level, not just one block, but block after block, it has to be coordinated so one unit isn't getting too far in front of the other which is immensely complicated and dangerous. joey: you're trying to make sure the ground isn't trying to blow up, make sure the buildings don't become rockets in your face, the war is in all directions when you're moving into an urban environment. we're going to clear this and move on to -- so these -- pete: by the way, this guys a tech, explosive ordinance disposal guy, knows what all these things do and how dawning dawningruss they would be. joey: this is mainly
6:08 am
manufactured. these are manufactured in places like ita italian land mines, yugoslavian rpgs. this pushes out bullets, thousands at one time. other types of rockets, pgs, hand grenades. the thing to remember is that almost all of this can be employed by one person and take out a lot of people. these specifically here, sorry about that, these specifically are rpgs, ro rocket propelled grenades. this is what sets it off. if you get the fuse up against a hard surface this will become for lack of a better explanation an armor piercing and destroying device so if there's a troop carrier, a heavily armored, looks like a tank but it's for moving troops, and they hit
6:09 am
correctly, they could kill everyone in there. >> that's why it changes dynamics. some prefer to fight in urban war fare. it changes the advantages of an overwhelming power. joey: absolutely. when i went to -- we took 200 marines to clear a town. it was a heavily mined town. we might have only fought a dozen enemies but they stage weapons in buildings and would shoot at us, by the time they figured their location they would run to the next building. that tactic would work well in gaza, takes much less people to do it. pete: as we fast forward here, we talked earlier about the marine unit which could join the u.s. forces but the hope here is deterring a larger war. joey: as we talked about on the show and we talked about the marine force or unit coming up to join this, we have two carrier strike battalions or
6:10 am
strike groups plus the marine unit. what you have here is the capability of an air base, artillery, direct fire and bodies that can go on land and take care of our own. pete: from zooming in on the gaza strip to the strategic location, israel is in for a big fight and america is in the neighborhood. we'll see what happens. lieutenant colonel jonathan conrikus talked about how israeli forces would prepare for the kind of fight we laid out. >> hamas are cowards. their whole strategy is built upon hiding behind civilians or under civilians. when the going gets tough they have a tendency to put down weapons and try to leave as a last resort. the working you assumption is hamas prepared the battlefield, various dimensions of war fare ready for us, specifically
6:11 am
tunnels and hamas at least in the first and the intermediate stages will fight and will try to evict heavy casualties on the idf. that's our working assumption, that's how we are preparing for operations and that is how we're going to address the situation in terms of the assets that we will be bringing to the floor once the next stage of operation commences. rachel: you guys, it was sofass fascinating watching you explain the weapons and how complicated a ground invasion will be and so my question to you is given how deadly it looks like it is going to inevitably be and also the civilian casualties that whim wl happen as a result, is the ground invasion inevitable or is there anything that could possibly stop this from happening. pete: that was an interesting part of one of trey yingst's reports earlier. i asked him that question if a ground invasion is inevitable and hezbollah says it's getting involved if a ground invasion happens then you have a two
6:12 am
front war and he insinuated there might be other approaches that maybe netanyahu is anticipating right now. the enemy is anticipating you go in one spot, one way, maybe that's not the way israel will go because it can get retribution a different way. what hasn't changed is if reality of the israelis that were slaughtered and the need to defend borders. what that looks like, we played out the predictable playbook but that doesn't necessarily mean that's how it will play out. joey: we don't know how hamas will respond. maybe they make the calculated decision that some sort of calculated retreat, taking hostages with them and negotiate from afar is better, that happened in the '80s from lebanon. we don't know what their ability to move in and out of gaza is as far as high value targets. we don't know the mentality of the lower level fighters, i don't know if they're persuadeable. everything i know is they are
6:13 am
not. we saw what ground troops did in israel to civilians. i don't know that many of them are going to turn. we don't know. rachel: yeah. pete: a lot of questions. rachel: one thing we do know, our southern border is open and probably one of the most dangerous times in all of our existence, truly. we've had some record breaking numbers, check this out. in september, 269 -- over 26 # 269,000, these numbers -- it's almost hard to wrap your head around it. in addition to that, we have record numbers of known terrorists who have crossed our border. this year alone, 169 that we know of. by the way, that's in addition to more than 45,000 known chinese citizen crossed the border. joey: you go from the lowest up to higher, so the fact that it grows from two in fiscal year 2017, zero in 201 # and look
6:14 am
at '22 and '23. it amazes me. i don't know what the administration's response would be, maybe they say they have more people there to interindict. we know that's not true. rachel: the trump campaign may take -- let's put that back up there, 2019, zero. pe.pete: you draw a line after fiscal year '20, you say that's a border policy and over on the right is a total abandonment, it's invasion, these again to your point, these are known on the terror watch list that we encountered, not the got aways that we have no idea who they are or why they're coming here which is why i hear if from viewers, we talk to people, why the level of anxiety and uncertainty is so high right now. you've got a land war in europe with uncertain outcomes, now a looming land war in the middle east, the potential for war in the south china sea, china try to move. an a absolutely open and porous southern border, who knows who is here and what their intentions might be which
6:15 am
creates a leverage point and dynamic throughout the world and our universities are turning our young people -- joey: ideological war in our border. pete: it's a scary time. you don't have leadership in the white house. rachel: and we're broke as a country. $33 trillion in debt, printing money like there's no tomorrow, handing out money to every country, many of them with much lower debt levels than we have. it's a really scary time and you're right, we've never been closer than we are right now to the brink of world war iii and you just have to look at what's happening just at southern border, national security which should be number one job of government, fail. how can they control all these other things that you're talking about, pete. pete: in times of uncertainty, all you want as a free people is leadership is strong leadership that says this is who he are, this is what we represent, this is how we'll represent our people. americans were killed, americans are held hostage. this what is we'll do to you if
6:16 am
you harm americans, you don't hear any of that, no calling out of the enemies. we've got aircraft, we're got carrier strike groups, a marine -- the concern of so many people is how would they use them and are they really using them to deter anything, to didn't deter the taliban from taken over afghanistan, didn't deter putin from taking over ukraine. joey: my concern is they're nothing less than targets at some point. i don't mean they're vulnerable to be attacked. i mean they have become targets in a place where an attempted attack brings us into war. i understand the posturing and use of deterrent if you're using the wrong verbiage, it is a posturing and deterrent. if you're not, you're sitting there saying we'll let them punch us in the face so we have an excuse to go to war. that's not what we're looking for either. pete: feeling very uncertain and we pray for an outcome. rachel: absolutely. joey: we have more to talk about. coming up, as the world fights for the release of hostages, a

up group of american rabbis are heading to israel offering prayer and support. their message, ahead. rachel: first, israeli forces are ramping up attacks as rockets ring out of gaza, how hamas' terror could turn into the next global conflict. pete: former nato supreme allied commander general philip breedlove joins us next. why didn't we do this last year? before you were preventing migraine with qulipta®?

rachel: we return to our breaking coverage of the war in is israel but first quick headlines, a massive manhunt for the estranged son of a metro nashville police chief. r authorities say he shot two officers in front of a dollar general store in laverne, southeast of nashville. both victims are in stable condition. chief drake saying, quote, despite my efforts and guidance in the early and teenage years my son john drake junior, 38 years old, resorted to criminal activity and is a convicted felon. he has not been a part of my life for quite some time. he now needs to be found and held accountable for his actions. wow, that must be tough for him as a father. to another fox news alert. police say the suspect in the

6:23 am
building a network of tunnels. allied commander general phillip breedlove joins us now. general, thank you for joining us. i know you have valuable insights on this. what do you see happen whatting in israel as far as u.s. involvement moving forward? >> well, first of all, joe see, thanks for having me on board and well done, you two, in explaining capabilities, just previous to this. i would remind as an airman there's also a buildup of tactical and strategic air that maybe you want to address. so there are a lot of signals that we are sending and two carrier battle groups with all its capabilities, the attack in strategic air and others, these are clear signals to those around the area not to broaden this war. but that is the clear message that's being sent by everyone outside of israel in the area. is that the war will broaden.
6:24 am
i will point this back also to ukraine where we are deterred in some ways by the threat of a broadening war there and i think that hamas, hezbollah and iran are taking some pages from those books and making sure that everything now focuses on this is going to get bigger if israel goes important that western leaders to include the united states stand firm in their support and that we not a allow ourselves to be inadvertently deterred by the rhetoric that's out there. we have to be honest and accept the possibility but we should not be artificially deterred. joey: this is not a political question, it's a question of reality. as a supreme allied commander of nato forces you probably understand better than most what our buy-in with ukraine, even this war that israel is getting into compared to our allies.
6:25 am
when the president sits there and says the weapons and munitions we're shipping to ukraine have been sitting around collecting dust and we'll replace those with new, better one, i don't want to say how true of a statement is that but maybe how literal of a statement is that? are we that much more vulnerable supplying two wars, essentially? >> well, you know, we can't hide from the fact that the consumption is up. the good news is that the beginning of this war in israel is not the same consumption except for maybe in -- israel has a military that's highly sophisticated and we're supplying them with different kinds of high tech, very precise capabilities whereas in ukraine we're still supplying a lot of one, five, five and other of sort of -- joey: artillery. >> capabilities. joey: thank you for joining us. looking at your crystal ball, seeing these military units in the sea there off the coast,
6:26 am
does that look like a unit getting ready for combat or deterrent or both? what do you think the signals are? >> well, the signal is we are capable. now what we need to determine is do we have the intent, do we have the policy, have we made the decision to act. joey: p general, thank you for your service and leadership, thank you for coming on and sharing your expertise in the signal intelligence and air capables of the air force is incredibly important and i will never, ever disregard that again. thank you, general. >> thank you. joey: all right. coming up, 18 days since mccarthy's ousting and the search is -- well, it's still on for a house speaker. congressman byron donalds is throw his name in the hat. he wants to be speaker. he wants to give us his case for the gavel, next.

rachel: we're back with a fox news alert right now, a convoy of 17 trucks rolling up to the egypt gaza border crossing looking to bring humanitarian aid to the palestinian people and earlier prime minister benjamin netanyahu meeting with israeli commandos and issuing a stern warning to hezbollah. trey yingst is live on the ground in southern israel with the latest. trey, what do you have? >> reporter: yeah, rachel, we are following some breaking news right now along the gaza border where there are reports of an anti-tank guided missile fired toward israeli troops in the kibbutz. just yesterday, our crews was inside with the israeli military looking at the position, that they are taking over and trying to clean up the aftermath of that october 7th massacre. there are many israeli troops around the area, it's about one and-a-half kill on the terse kie
6:32 am
border with gaza, it would be the first attack in a number of days as the war enters day 16. i want to talk about the preparations in southern israel. there are thousands of troops preparing for that looming ground offensive by the israelis, air strikes continue behind us and inside gaza they're firing rockets towards southern and central israel, remarkable given the fact that there are been thousands of israeli strikes. inside gaza the destruction is extensive, the death toll past 4600 people. in israel, the death toll remains at around 1400 people after the massacre. i want to shift our you a tension to the north with lebanon where hezbollah remains active, firing roberts into northern israel, launching guided missiles and drawing response by israeli forces. in the distance we can hear fire along the border, likely israelis firing into gaza. i want you to listen to israel
6:33 am
prime minister benjamin netanyahu who spoke yesterday from the north. >> if hezbollah goes to war with israel it will make the mistake of its life. we will meet them with a force they cannot imagine and the consequences will be devastating. >> reporter: off in the distance we can hear israeli air strikes and the small arms fire, if this remains a air and ground battle israelis say a they're increasing the number of air strikes against gaza to p pair prepare for the ground invasion. rachel: thank you. as war rages in the middle east congress is entering its 18th day without a speaker. as several candidates including our next guest are throwing their hats in the ring ahead of a ballot vote on tuesday. gop congressman byron donalds joins us next. congressman, thanks for joining us this morning. so what is your pitch to the gop conference? what are your priorities?
6:34 am
>> my pitch is very simple. first, we've got to get back to work immediately. we have to get these appropriation bills done. we must secure our border. if we're going to continue government funding the border must be secured and the white had house has to realize that and take us seriously. number two, we have a true ability to expand our majorities, past this congress. we can do that with strong direct lead leadership where the white house knows where we stand, the american people see the strategies and the work the republican majority is trying to get done. i believe that. number three, we can have unity in t conference, it will start with a fresh voice working with our colleagues to accomplish the mission that our voters sent us here to do. rachel: you talk about the border. we just did a story on it. we went from zero known tour. terrorists captured under donald trump, we are now up to 150 in
6:35 am
the last year. this is really scary. we have a bill coming up, you know, biden put forward where he has money dedicated to the border but i feel likes that's just for enforcement. what can congress do to make sure -- i'm sorry, it's for processing versus enforcement. what can congress do to make sure it's used to protect our border and enforce security there versus just using it to process more people? >> oh, let me be very clear. we don't have a money problem with respect to the southern border. we have a policy problem. the policies were put in place by joe biden when he became president of the united states. those policies have to be reversed. house republicans have supported the strongest border security package that has ever passed the house of representatives in hr2. the elements of hr2 frankly all of it should be implemented immediately by the white house. they can do this tomorrow. so if the white house is going to come and say they want more money, then we're going to say no, you mead to change your
6:36 am
policies. because the american people want to be -- they want to be supportive the around the globe. we are going to be supportive of israel. but we must secure our border. it must occur. it needs to happen immediately. rachel: what's your position on more money for ukraine? >> my position is we have to change a number of things. we need an inspector general over there accounting for the dollars. number two, the white house needs to actually have a strategy for us and what's the purpose of and what's the end goal of all of this, all of that has not been clear and here's the biggest one, rachel. this money has to be paid for. the white house wants $60 billion. meanwhile, one of the key elements of their plan with respect to the green new deal estimates are it's going to cost the american people 1 to $2 trillion. we have to pay for this money. we don't just -- we can't just send it out without any ability to take care of the purse strings of the american people and we need to make sure that's done. rachel: are you suggesting the money go out to ukraine but that we maybe take it away from what was allocated for the green new
6:37 am
deal or are you saying ukraine has enough money? >> what i'm saying is two things. we have to evaluate what ukraine already has. but number two, if the white house is going to say their primary mission now is funding ukraine, and they need to defund one of their other priorities. we are $33 trillion in debt, a $2 trillion deficit this year. we can t not continue this because the fiscal health of our nation will be in jeopardy. rachel: i have a couple questions. quick one on this. if you become speaker will you release all of the january 6-footage? >> i will. absolutely. rachel: okay. great. next question. we are obviously as you know -- this is probably the most dangerous time in our lifetime, on the brink of world war iii, hewe want to support israel to protect and defend themselves. how do we and how does congress -- what do you do to make sure that america doesn't get drawn into yet another conflict? >> well, this is going to be the toughest thing. we have to be supportive of israel. they are our ally. they were attacked.
6:38 am
and they must obliterate hamas. i am fully supportive of that as are my colleagues on capitol hill. with respect to being pulled into world war iii, something none of us want, this is going to take leadership in joe biden, leadership he has not shown to any point at this time. as far as going back to the iranian sanctions that were under president trump and having this white house reverse course with some of their desires with iran, try to negotiate through the back door, that will be a big step forward to avoiding this global conflict. number two, there has to be a strategic vision and goal for what's happening in ukraine. if you can get those two things accomplished, that will the take us to a much safer place around the globe. rachel: i think most of the viewers agree we need new leadership. what has that fight among the republicans in congress done to potentially damage the presidential election for republicans? >> well, look, i don't think that -- once we get past this, and i think we are going to get past this pretty quickly and i
6:39 am
think we're going to get back to business. we're going to continue to go back into this political discussion, this fight with the white house about what the true priorities of america are so i don't think it's going to damage the presidential election. lelestsbe very clear. joe biden's presidency has not been good for the american people. they know in spite of the impasse of the house leadership. i think we're going to get back to work, we're going to demonstrate what conservative leadership is in the house of representatives and we're going to be just fine in 2024. rachel: i know a lot of people hope you get this done on tuesday. good luck. enjoyed having you today. >> thank you. rachel: take care. coming up the growing ties wean between hamas and china, new warnings the ccp is using the terror in israel to stoke you new cold war with the west. maria bartiromo is here with reaction, next.
