accused killing 18 people and injuring 13 others. in maine has stretched into a second day. the father of one of the victims becoming emotional talking about his late child who was the manager at the bar, which was one of the two shooting locations. i go to church i believe in the law and i believe in . but why do we have to go through these kind of miserable, miserable times? this has never happened in our two cities, never is the worst thing that's ever happened. these two cities where it just really hit you hard watching the victims and the families, those who are suffering tonight as the manhunt continues. >> welcome back, everybody. i'm kevin corke in denver. jenkins kevin, great to be with you on this busy friday morning of breaking news. it's 3 a.m. on the east coast, 10 a.m. in israel. and that's where we turn now to the middle east. u.s. fighter jets striking iran linked sites. syria a short while ago
12:02 am
in retaliation for attacks on american troops in the middle east. the strikes follow a 19 attacks on us bases in iraq and syria that's injured at least 21 u.s. personnel. meanwhile all let's go now to fox news correspondent mike tobin, who's on the ground in israel with the latest. good morning, mike. >> good morning, greg. from the very latest is, of course, the u.s. has now engaged in combat in the region, striking at two targets in eastern syria, very near the iraq border. and two of these targets are bases, if you will, used by the iranian revolutionary guard corps. and this is in response to repeated attacks, more than 21 attacks over the past two days against u.s. personnel by iranian proxies. and the attacks have come in the form of missile and drone attacks against these personnel, and they have resulted in some injuries. and one u.s. contractor died
12:03 am
of a heart attack while he was sheltering in place from from these rocket and drone attacks. you have some 21 u.s. personnel who have suffered minor injuries, things like traumatic brain injuries. so the u.s. has responded to this. but a statement from u.s. defense secretary lloyd austin was very deliberate to mention ,as it does not change, it does not represent shift in the approach to the u.s. support of israel, the war between israel and hamas. now, the u.s. has been sending things, has always supported israel's military and has been sending things like 155 millimeter shells to support the the israeli artillery and also interceptors for the iron dome system. another iron dome battery was being sent to israel, but it does not change the fact that there have been a couple of strikes. it does not change u.s. support to israel. the u.s. has bolstered its personnel with some 900 personnel moved to fences likethat missile batteries, patriot missile batteries
12:04 am
and additional iron dome batteries to to the area. but the u.s. was very quick to say doesn't change. this does not represent a shift in the u.s. policy, but also that the u.s. will not hesitate to use force if. these attacks against u.s. personnel in the region continue. meantime, the israeli strikes into the gaza strip continue and there has been another israeli incursion into the gaza strip. as far as ground forces being used, this has been in the area of sharjah, which is to the northern end of the strip. and usually what we see now with these incursions into the gaza strip, the israelis say that this is about removing personnel hamas infrastructure and anti-tank infrastructure. all it preparation for this anticipated ground invasion. >> griff witte mike, i just want to follow up on that. and of course we understand that a ground invasion is is imminent could come at any time now so that the ground
12:05 am
incursion, that small brief ground incursion you just mentioned. big news overnight. our viewers now just learning about it. but is that perhaps a little bit of a prod, a little bit of a prelude to, preparing the battle space before this incursion anticipated incursion may come . i think preparation of the battlefield is the is the precise word to use there. and that's what we're getting from the israelis. we saw yesterday's incursion. they brought out the big armor plated d9 bulldozers and they talked about removing anti-tank positions. i've been in gaza and i've seen one of the things that palestinians do time and time again is they make giant sand berms, which would be an obstacle to the merkava tanks in as far as combat. you bring in the bulldozers, you can get the sand out of the way and make it easier for the israeli armor to move the gaza strip. you also know that there are a lot of traps that are being set. quite possibly the israelis are getting on the ground, removing those traps, fighting positions that hamas would use. so you really described it
12:06 am
best, saying preparation of the ground ahead of the planned incursion in just, i guess, a follow for what we may see. it's obviously friday heading into the weekend. we may see further proxies because on fridays, of course, attacks have come. any sense for sort of where we're headed? >> we go into the weekend, mike? well, one of the things you note is, in fact, i just heard from from an expert, an israeli think tank pointed out something that i guess is is rather obvious. we don't think about it that often. iran doesn't get its own hands dirty. >> iran operates through its proxies, through hezbollah, always an iranian proxy. the houthis and hamas was once independent. they ran out of money and iran was very quick to open its arms and open its purse strings. and now they do. hamas doing their dirty work for them here in the region, which is also very interesting because hamas is a sunni organization.
12:07 am
iranians, of course, are fiercely shiite. but when they a common enemy, they'll come together. and when they're useful to iran and hamas needs money, that's an alliance of convenience. >> griff mike tobin live for us on the ground in israel. >> mike, stay safe. great reporting. thank you, kevin. you got it. >> thank you. turning now to our other big story overnight, law enforcement working round the clock to hunt down the gunman suspected of killing at least 18 people in maine. we're learning that agents from ,an elite border patrol tactical unit, are on the ground assisting with the search. we turn now to fox news correspondent molly line. >> she's live in lewiston, maine, with the very latest. molly, i just been going over some of the victims in this circumstance. >> a bar who loved sports, an avid bowler and husband, a pipefitter with a two-year-old daughter. another hard worker raised thousands of dollars for breast cancer research. it is the devastating reality.
12:08 am
people, neighbors, loved ones who are the victims in this senseless crime, in a community is obviously hurting this morning. yeah, it is heartbreaking to see what's unfolded here in this community. you mentioned just some of the victims. a lot of fathers on that of victims. and here we are, more than 24 hours after the two mass shooting sites, after this occurred. and the suspect in this case, robert card, remains at large. you mentioned that elite unit that is an elite border patrol unit, border tac agents, they are now here on the ground in maine, joining a great deal of assets that are now out all over rural area, rural community. >> there are these small cities like, the city of lewiston, surrounded by other smaller communities and dotted between that, the fields and the waterways and some pretty difficult terrain. the border tech agents, they're joining many others that are here on the ground per bill maloof and of course the senior senior customs and border patrol sources telling us that they've been
12:09 am
very successful, resolving several high profile cases. most recently, danielle cavalcante, the pennsylvania murderer that had been escaped, they hope to hunt down that individual and bring him back into custody. a very busy here on the ground. throughout the evening, though, the suspect, robert carter, is from a nearby community bowdon, where the his family has a number of properties. it's kind of a compound situation. there are a number of structures on that property. a lot of action there. the course of a couple of hours this evening. there were flash bangs and law enforcement calling for someone in those buildings to come out ,specifically referencing robert or anyone else that was inside to come out peacefully, hands up, that they wanted a peaceful resolution. no one ultimately came out. and then once search warrants were executed. turns out there was no one in there. we don't know if they collected any evidence that might helpful in the investigation. still waiting to hear more on that and. the other thing we're learning is that the coast guard is now
12:10 am
involved. that is another agency joining a long list of assets that are involved in this. they had a helicopter up earlier in the day near boothbay, which a beautiful scenic oceanside, part of maine saying that they got a hit. there have been a lot of these this type of information coming out that there's some sort of tip and law enforcement over response and looks to see if there's anything there. but thus far, no sign of robert card. >> molly, i want to drill down little bit on what you just mentioned there. this idea that the coast teams are. i know that the car was ditched not in, but in another town, not even in lewiston. and i guess there are waterways and tributaries, as you and i have previously. i'm fairly familiar with maine, as are you. i know that a lot of ways to hop on to a watercraft and try to make your way out of a particular area fairly quickly. i that's why at least it would seem the coast guard is also part of the search.
12:11 am
is that your understanding? >> yes. so the where the vehicle was found, the suspect vehicle was a white subaru. it was found in nearby community about 10 minutes away. the community's name is lisbon. through that town. there's a long river and as you mentioned, the dock. so now there's hasn't been any strong clarity that robert card exiting the vehicle went to the dock and got in a specific boat ,went somewhere specifically. but nothing's been ruled out at this point in time. investigators don't know where the individual went, where this went. >> so they haven't ruled anything out. and you're right, maine is filled with rivers and a whole lot of lakes as well. lots of swamp, but also beautiful coastal oceanside. and for someone, as they know, robert card, to be someone who's familiar with the water, with boats, it's certainly not something they've ruled out. and so the coast guard is now among many agencies that are involved looking at, you know, possibly robert card escaping via water and in some way.
12:12 am
>> kevin, one more i want to just bring your way and this is all i'm going to ask you to sort of draw on your experience. i know that you mentioned the previous manhunt of the escaped convict. we also had the boston marathon circumstance. how does this compare in terms of what you've seen collectively in terms of resource is coming on the ground? yes, there are limited resources when you are relatively city, 35,000 or so, but when you bring the full weight of the state of maine and what would appear to be a growing of federal assets, i'm imagining that is perhaps different than your previous experience. >> what can you tell us about that? molly? you know, every a search for a suspect, every manhunt has its own unique circumstance is. but of those two scenarios that you talked about, the boston marathon bombing manhunt followed and the dannemora prison escape the prison escape is more
12:13 am
similar to what we're seeing here terrain wise, even even suspect wise. this suspect, robert card, has the same sort of capabilities as matt and sweat. who were they? prisoners that escape from the dannemora prison and similar terrain, you know, upstate new york and all across maine. there are these rural areas in potential cabins and hiding spots. the two inmates that had escaped in dannemora had holed up for a period of time in a remote cabin. in this case that could be a possibility, perhaps robert cray managed to escape and find a place to hole up. the question is whether or not he planned that part of this or stumbled upon. it is out there in the and could lock out on on something and so is there a bunker type scenario where if there was this was part of the plan an escape plan was in place then is there somewhere where there are and and clothing and facilities
12:14 am
that someone who's escaping might want? or is that not part of the plan? but it could still be something that's stumbled upon similar to what happened in dannemora, the boston marathon bombing, that for a period of time in that manhunt, the suspects is what put forward. and investigators didn't know yet who they were in this case. they put out a name fairly quickly, the horrific events that unfolded just before 7 p.m. were happening here in the in the city of lewiston and by 11:00 that night, they had announced robert carter, the person of interest, and had put his picture out and had some information to work with. the boston marathon bombing had a little bit of a different and there were days where they weren't sure who were the suspects were. it was a longer period of time. and then ultimately it was a very violent and they were very well-armed with bombs and everything. when they tried to escape and move through the neighborhoods just outside of boston. but at this point in time, we do know that this individual,
12:15 am
robert ray, potentially very dangerous, not only from the information we have from clearly allegedly involved in the murders intent that it happened, these two buildings, but also just skill wise, this is someone who served in the military, the army reserves. we know that he's trained were weapons are concerned hunting experience, potential survival experience, boating experience, kind of an outdoorsman type of person in, a state with a lot of opportunity to enjoy outdoor activities. so this may be something that he's very familiar with, the terrain and everything else . >> kevin, an absolute chess match obviously unfolding, right before our very eyes. terrific reporting, as always. mollie, thank you so much we'll talk to you again real soon. meantime, u.s. airstrikes in syria could set off a cycle of consequences that could rock a region already on the edge. military intelligence officer john jordan weighs in with us next.

and going to life. fact that man. together we can end school choking tragedies. >> just hours ago, president biden ordering the u.s. military to conduct airstrikes in syria in retaliation to attacks on americans service members. two u.s. fighter jets struck weapons and ammunition facilities in the region. for more on this, let's bring in foreign military intelligence officer john jordan, who has been with us morning early on this busy news day. and john, for any of our viewers, maybe just waking up, learning that two f-16 fighter jets are struck in eastern syria, specific targets selected believed to be ammunitions and weapons depots of the irgc weapons. lucas tomlinson was reporting that may have actually even been used in the attacks in recent days on. american forces in syria,
12:21 am
in iraq. what do you make of this response? >> this is part of an emerging strategy by iran using proxies to force the u.s. into a situation, series of humiliations and embarrassment with the ultimate goal to force out of the middle east so that iran can assert itself as the hegemonic the middle east and reestablish get sanctions relief. as europe gets tired of this and europe as had enormous commercial interests lost in the region. and this what this is part of an emerging strategy. so these these targets that were were hit were self-storage facilities, rockets that were shot against american military personnel. the iranians knew that we were going to do this. it was planned. in fact, beat us into it. the reason for that being is so they characterize this for the middle east as, hey, the united states is getting involved in another struggle in the middle east is islam versus the west. and all over again to undermine the progress made during the abraham accords and scuttle
12:22 am
any israeli saudi peace deal? >> you know, john, you mentioned that the iranians likely saw this coming in sort of goaded as into it but as a military intelligence officer, did the biden even have a choice? >> they sort of had to respond . >> yeah, this is kind of set up by the iranians. they had to there was a if you do, if you don't. and that was what was set up this way, the iranians. and don't kid yourself. the iranians are behind this. i mean the head of the head of one of the heads of hamas said on russian television, i'm a russian speaker. i saw it. and october eight said, you know, started planning this when the united states withdrew from afghanistan and the united states started to accommodate iran and iran's economy and coffers of swell since then. and the $6 billion, that's a drop in the bucket compared to the quiet sanctions relief that they've received in the last two years. so is part of a broader strategy that was set up this way. they wanted the u.s. to hit those targets, and that's for a domestic political not just
12:23 am
in iran, but throughout the middle east. >> and john, the pentagon is admitting fully that iran is center of gravity here. their fingerprints are all over this. and we we hear a lot in going to hear the coming days about this strike and if there are additional ones about the escalation ladder in terms of the, you know, the proportional response in retaliation that we just delivered. so we're we're. talk to me about that escalation, larry. talk to me about what you think may come in in the days, weeks ahead. >> yes. the conflict grip exists in several domains. there's the information, public public relations part of it. cyber, diplomatic and so forth. the iranians may actually decide to fold here because, you know, they there's no reason for them to invite further american military action, maybe a little bit more. but they've already kind of got what they want it now. they've got a lot of big military equipment in the
12:24 am
region. and american fighter planes bombing and bombing groups inside of syria. that's kind of what they wanted. here's what to watch out for in the next shoe to drop is probably going to have to do with china, because you you you cannot even draw a straight line. everything in this world is connected both in times based money and interests. and look for china to have some sort of incident with perhaps the philippines or in the south china sea designed to humiliate united states while we're focused over here. so i think that's the next thing to watch for. and i think that would tend to demonstrate that there is some degree of either direct or at least tacit coordination between america's at this time. >> that's a frightening prospect, john, to think a of a chinese escalation of sorts would certainly complicate the picture, as you so well paint it. but let's talk about things. is a foreign military officer. you have advised the marine corps special operations command on sort of their planning for things.
12:25 am
and in what you're watching in terms of iran's behavior. what do you specifically think that they're looking at? and then what would be sort of their response to those hypothetical situations? >> well, right now, you know iran isn't going to directly do anything themselves or they're going try to. they're going to use proxies to do it, whether it's islamic ,hezbollah or hamas or any of a number of other other groups. so what you have right now is the iranians that they may actually kind of form in some sort of disaster. wouldn't surprise me if you see tomorrow some sort photos of maybe some casualties or some civilian casualties, some of public relations horror show the result of as a result of these strikes that was maybe pre-positioned. kind of like what the hamas did to the israelis of the hospital thing and this is geared towards an iranian and a middle eastern audience designed to reshape opinion, make it impossible for some of these gulf states, including saudi arabia, to do what they really
12:26 am
want to do, which is form not necessarily an alliance, recognize israel to have a bulwark against iranian expansionism. so i to look out for the next step, being in the information warfare realm. >> it is a multi-pronged warfare here, both on the ground with bombs and in the information space in jordan. thank you for getting up early with us. great insight, as always. have a great weekend. meanwhile, president biden finally took a stand against iranian proxies amid intense domestic pressure to make a move. plus, the frantic manhunt continues for that main mass shooter accused of killing 18 people. stay tuned. kevin corke and i have live coverage continuing. >> eloise asylum was a living. there's something here. thousands of patients died. >> not every one left. i want to find out exactly what they've experienced. i'm trying to connect the.

12:31 am
mike tobin is on the ground in israel with the latest. hey, mike what can you tell us? well, the big development, griff, overnight, is the fact that the u.s. f-16 have struck at two targets inside of syria. so the u.s. is striking in the region at two bases used by the iranian revolutionary guard corps. and this is not in direct it really not at all. in response to the israel hamas conflict, but it's in response to the 19 or so attacks that the u.s. service personnel in the region have been subject to over the past ten days. those attacks have manifested in the form of of cruise missile or drone attacks on u.s. personnel. one u.s. contractor died when he had a heart attack sheltering from the rocket attacks. 19 u.s. are only tell you 21 u.s. personnel have had minor injuries such as traumatic brain injuries. now the u.s. was very clear to ,at least in a statement from secretary lloyd austin, to make
12:32 am
the statement that this doesn't represent a change in u.s. posture as it relates to israel. hamas conflict. but it is a direct response to the attacks on u.s. personnel. now, the u.s., of course, is supporting israel militarily in terms of artillery. in terms of iron dome interceptors, in fact, they're moving another iron dome battery into israel, and that is a joint u.s. israel project project to intercept and defend against incoming rockets. in addition to that, the u.s. has increased its force posture in the region by some 900 u.s. personnel. you know, the two carrier groups have been moved into the region. and also the u.s. is moving northward, batteries, patriot missile batteries and further armed iron dome batteries into the region to protect u.s. personnel. and that statement from lloyd austin says that u.s. will not hesitate to use force force if there are further attacks against u.s. personnel. the reason they hit those bases used by the iranian revolutionary guard is because the attacks on u.s. personnel
12:33 am
are said to be directed from iranian proxies in the region. if you notice, iran doesn't do a lot of its own dirty work. it uses proxies to do attacking and destabilize destabilize the region. as it relates directly to the israel-hamas war, there was new activity overnight, of course, new activity in the form of airstrikes that is part of every night. but there was another incursion into gaza strip just to the northern side of gaza city, on the northeast side of the gaza strip. this incursion was on the ground. what we got directly from the israelis is it was a preparation for the ground invasion. it involved hamas personnel and anti-tank positions of hamas. what we saw two nights ago when when israel went into the gaza strip and back out, they used the big armored plated d9 bulldozers. and what that really speaks to is preparation of the ground. head of, the anticipated ground invasion grip.
12:34 am
>> well, that's a great point, mike, and it certainly seems we've been told time and again that a ground incursion is is. any sense that that we're really at the point now where it could come any moment? and are you hearing any increases in those air strikes this morning? we haven't noticed an increase in air strikes. they really are persistent. two nights ago, two nights ago, they were quite prolific particularly on the northern side of the gaza strip in terms of coming at any moment, the forces are in place. so it really seems that decision is now up to israel's leaders. there is some reporting to the effect that there's conflict inside of the war cabinet. there certainly is conflict in terms of israel. israel's leadership, benny gantz and benjamin netanyahu, are together now, far as what they call the unity government in this crisis, but their bitter political opponents in the lead up to this, there is debate in israel about how the ground
12:35 am
invasion should take place or whether it should take place at all. so there is a great deal of debate. we know that the ground forces are in place. there was reporting from the wall street journal that the ground was held up while the u.s. got its air defenses into. israel pushed back at that, saying that the israeli war cabinet, israeli defense minister, they will make the decisions when the ground offensive begins. and then that's really situation here. the forces are in place and we're waiting to see if the tanks roll rolled in. we will be watching mike tolbert on the ground for us in israel. >> mike. thank you. kevin turning now to our other top story, the manhunt for the suspect in the deadly mass shooting in lewiston, maine is now in its second day. this course comes as the community tries to come to grips with the tremendous tragedy. we go back to fox news correspondent molly line. she's been on the scene for us for the past couple of days. i just want to bring
12:36 am
people molly, to date on what we know about the wounded. eight wounded remain at central maine medical center, five of them in stable condition, three in critical condition at this hour. and they are all being treated . we can also share at this hour molly, you and i have been talking about this possibility of maybe the suspect, robert card, could be trying to move north or perhaps toward the border. and i guess you have some information about that. >> what can you tell us? yeah, just a little bit of information. the canadian sorry, the canada border services agency has reporting that they're of the tragic events as they unfolded in maine and that their officers have alerted to the high risk of this situation. >> and they say that they're going to be on the lookout with all of their law enforcement partners and they express their thoughts are with the citizens of maine and all those affected. >> no surprise at all. >> they're right. we we know we're very close to the canadian border here. maine and new hampshire and vermont very often have law
12:37 am
enforcement partnerships and relationships between our border patrol, the canadian mounties. and to keep an eye on that. and that border is pretty well secured when it comes to cameras and alerts and monitors. and it would be, you know, a good possibility to be a bit if you were on the run, didn't know what could easily get picked up by one of their cameras or sensors and it could possibly get you caught. so i know that they're heading for the canadian border would be something that this particular suspect, robert card, is looking to do. but they definitely have a lot of assets up there. meanwhile, their assets all over the state because this manhunt, as you as you noted, continues at hour. >> you know, there are been helicopters up in the skies. there have been drones up in the sky, dogs on the ground, tactical units as well as a new arriving major piece tactical asset in this ongoing search as the bore tack,

the elite border patrol border tac agents are now on the ground in maine. they're assisting in the manhunt for robert card. this information coming from a senior customs and border patrol source that her own bill milligan, that this border tech unit has arrived. they are on the ground. the portuguese essentially a special forces unit within the border patrol. they they do this kind of work. they travel around the country to assist in manhunts like this. they help track down and find the pennsylvania murder suspect that it escaped and bring back into custody in early october. daniela cavalcante just last last or rather last month, boardwalk also breached and killed the vivaldi shooter in may of 2022. so this is the type of work that they do, the type of work they're experienced for, and now they're here and on the ground. i'm going to be joining all of the assets. they're already out there. and when daylight comes, will most likely see the law enforcement continue their here on the ground today. very, very busy. made a lot of noise out in the hometown of this suspect,
12:39 am
robert card. he lives in bowdon, which is about a 30 minute drive 16 miles from here, from the city of lewiston. and they used flash bangs and we're calling for him to come out of the a family residence there. no one ultimately emerged and the suspect was not found. but they did their due diligence. search warrants were issued. we don't know if anything was found. we don't know what sort of clues they have and we don't have any indication that they've moved closer or zeroed in on an area. but they continue their search for robert card. >> kevin yeah. bowden amazing college town there. and i wanted to run one other idea by you, molly. while we had you in a circumstance like this and you have great experience covering stories like these in, addition to trying to set a perimeter, which in this case could be is why does the state, given all the particular data collection, we also know that law enforcement can
12:40 am
use equipment that basically can detect a heat signature that could certainly be useful in particular when you're doing overnight trying to find this person dogs, naturally that has been tried and true. but i found it interesting in some of your reporting earlier that the coast guard is also involved solved in this particular circumstance. what can you tell us about that angle and why is that important at this hour? >> it's important just because there's a lot of water up here in maine. >> there are a ton of lakes, a lot of rivers, a lot of swamp land. and of course this beautiful coastal rocky shoreline. we know that this suspect robert carter has some familiarity with the with waterways owner, a owner of a boat, an outdoorsman. so this is just one more part of making sure can are available and ready to deal with any type of terrain. all of the waterways that are around. so they're joining the part of the team. also very experienced law
12:41 am
enforcement personnel as well. it always helps to have that extra eye in the sky. and that's been something that has been important throughout this search from the helicopters to the drones. and now we know coast guard is also up in the sky and out in boats, keeping an eye out. >> a lot a lot of people looking for robert cray. >> absolutely. and obviously reminding all the citizens molly to loosen shelter in place and just be safe there. and that obviously applies to you and your great team there. molly line for us. thank you so much as always will be with you throughout the day. the u.s. airstrikes, meantime, may heightened tensions between u.s. and iran, which are already at alarming levels. >> let's be honest. our very own lucas tomlinson will join us live after the break with more on that. script jenkins and i continue our coverage here on fox nation nation. something unexpected has arrived from experience. >> a debit card. the all new experience, smart money, debit card and digital checking account.

12:46 am
forces in the middle east. meanwhile, the israeli army conducting targeted operations in gaza for the second time. let's go live now to fox news correspondent lucas tomlinson who is live in tel aviv early this morning. it's a corridor for the east coast in a cordial 11. your time, lucas, what can you tell us? well, griff, the pentagon says this was an action taken on the orders. president biden, defense secretary lloyd austin saying a pair f-16 fighter jets. these vipers likely launched from al dhafra air base, uae carried out a targeted strike, a, quote, narrowly tailored defensive strike is what the pentagon's calling it, against iranian backed interests in eastern syria. this is largely ungoverned spaces. the town of abu kamala, that's along the border with iraq. if you remember just a few years ago, this was isis's stronghold. and with 900 u.s. troops in syria and 2500 more in neighboring iraq that had been attacked 19 times over the past ten days, pressure was building washington for the biden administration to take action.
12:47 am
that's exactly what they did early this morning. griff and lucas talk to me about this second brief ground into gaza for our viewers, maybe just waking up on this busy friday news day and learning the airstrikes also in israel, we had the idf going in gaza right for the second consecutive day, griff mechanized forces from the israel defense forces went into gaza, this time pushing as far into central gaza is what the idf is saying now backed by airstrikes into the into gaza and killing a number of hamas operatives. we just learned that the idf yesterday killed hamas's deputy intelligence chief. no doubt this is probing. we heard from israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu saying his forces will move into gaza. the time in a place of their choosing. he will not back down any pressure from the international community. so no doubt the israeli forces are flexing their muscle,
12:48 am
trying to keep hamas off guard and also showing them that they can move in and out. and that's exactly what they did. and the idf saying that all its forces after conducting this raid are now outside of gaza right now. griff, it just for clarity for our viewers, this early friday morning, the defense secretary lloyd austin, putting out a statement saying specifically that that these narrowly tailored strikes that the u.s. carried out in eastern syria were in self-defense. it's intended to protect and defend u.s. personnel there, separate and distinct from the ongoing conflict between israel and hamas. you can see there adding the u.s. does not see conflict, has no intention or desire to engage in further hostilities with these iranian backed attacks against forces are unacceptable. and so as we talk about sort of potential, next things to come with regards to the us strikes in syria, lucas it's referred often to as an escalation letter.
12:49 am
what possibly could come in the future and what we're watching right now in the situation room of the oval office, president biden would be given a list of options, a menu, if you will, of what targets to strike. and secretary of state anthony blinken said the u.s. will take decisive and swift action to defend itself. that's exactly the way the pentagon is tailoring this. by the way, griff, the pentagon can claim that this is separate and distinct from the israeli hamas war, but not sure all of our viewers will believe that even if they haven't had that much coffee this morning clearly they're linked. but the pentagon is saying this is separate, this is about self-defense. now, if these attacks on u.s. forces, the region don't stop, certainly there's other options. look at the timing of this strike. early this morning in eastern syria. it hit didn't hit fighters, it hit infrastructure, it hit weapons storage facilities, which the pentagon claims were weapons, drones, missiles used to attack u.s. in the region. if those attacks continue, the pentagon says it reserves
12:50 am
the to carry out even more strikes. and if they have to do it again, perhaps they step up and start targeting barracks and start killing actual iranian backed fighters in the region. >> brad lukas thompson live for us on. the ground in tel aviv. lukas, great reporting. stay safe, my friend. >> meanwhile, israel's regional conflict is provoking fears, a multi-pronged war after the u.s. show of strength by targeting iranian proxies. >> more on that ahead. >> oh, hello, it's me, talking socks made from magic alpaca, the coziest most versatile fiber anchor packers with buttery, soft on feet, kitty feet, working feet running, playing and relaxing feet. my entire family loves practice cruiser. they're warmer than wool, softer than cashmere. >> whittle away moisture plus their thermo regulating safe 20% on your first order at packers scum we're making world a much cozier place. >> fox is proud to bring

there. and as our reporting from lucas and lucas tomlinson and mike tobin overnight, this second ground incursion briefly gaza from idf forces. you know, kevin, it certainly feels like we are on the precipice of that larger ground incursion going into gaza, the ground war, if you will, beginning in. you know, it's interesting. i think going back to our other story with the airstrikes, president biden striking those two specific sides with a targeted response to attacks on u.s. personnel in syria and iraq. i think it's fascinating, kevin, as we head into friday to see what the response will be from official washington overnight, at least one from senator marco rubio, the republican senator from florida, vice chairman of the select senate committee on intelligence, calling those strikes an important step, kevin, towards reestablishing deterrence against future attacks against americans.
12:56 am
we'll see where this story goes. yeah, i think you're right. and i think it will actually be balanced perhaps with some criticism, griff, that maybe the administration simply didn't go far enough. that will also be a storyline that will be watching here fairly carefully. i do want to mention this very quickly in the time that we have left, the manhunt is ongoing up in griff. i think what's really interesting vortex, which is an elite group of border patrol agents also in on the work here and the coast guard as well. that should ramp things up as the hunt continues. >> yeah, that elite board taking to the border patrol has saved the day. and dana moore in new york in 2015. last month in pennsylvania, i put my dollar on them. they're a huge asset. kevin it was great to be with you overnight. thank you for staying up with us.
