it is dismantling the entire system they established, it is not a number of people, it is the system that needs to be taken out. they are operators, planners, masterminds from the prime minister of hamas down to the last operator, they all need to go. >> carley: this is veering into diplomatic territory a bit. hamas if you can believe them, says they are willing to release 200 hostages in exchange for fuel and for israel to reduce airstrikes, what does israel do in that scenario? >> so obviously we don't take anything hamas says worth even the time we are giving them to comment on them. we are putting the issue hostages as top priority of the defense force and diplomatic efforts.

it is not something we are seeing hamas hide behind civilians, i have talked on fox about hamas positioned explosive drones on the rooftops of houses and making houses a military target. i did see the comparison of before and after up to now, but it is important to know strikes are against specific military targets and it goes to show how deep and how in depth hamas is embedded infrastructure, terrorist infrastructure within palestinian society, basically putting all of gaza at risk. we are trying to take out assets and making sure we differentiate against noncombatants and infrastructure and it is a challenging task. >> carley: peter lerner, thank
