10:00 pm
border. the idf says it is increasing those ground operations. cannons continue to thunder. there are 900 u.s. troops in syria at small bases. >> a new phase of the war is developing before our eyes. >> stay with fox news. >> our aim is to achieve both
10:01 pm
of the targets, to defeat hamas and to bring our babies, women, elderly men back home. >> the israeli military stepping up air and ground attacks in gaza, signaling it's moving closer to an all out invasion. the heavy bombardment knocking out phone and internet service to 2.3 million people in the gaza strip. it's effectively cutting them off from both the outside world and each other. hello, everyone. i'm jonathan hunt in jerusalem ,where it's now eight on saturday morning. and i'm kevin corke. it's 1 a.m. here in washington. people not terribly far from here up in maine can sleep it off a lot better tonight. suspect in wednesday's mass shooting that killed 18 people has been found dead. this following an intense two day manhunt filled with fears he might strike again. >> like many people, i'm breathing a sigh of relief
10:02 pm
tonight knowing that robert card is no longer a threat to anyone, no longer a threat. >> joining us live from the scene is fox news correspondent cb cotton. >> cb, good morning. >> >> hi, kevin. robert card is dead for words that are going to have thousands here in maine's second biggest city, sleeping with a lot more ease tonight. we know that this accused mass shooter was found in a heavily wooded area. with it, an apparent source inflicted gunshot wound in lisbon, which is only about 10 to 15 minutes drive away from where we're currently at in lewiston, where the mass shooting took place. >> now, kevin, of course, this is not the conclusion everyone wanted, but tonight the governor emphasizing this news means he cannot hurt anyone else. >> like many people, i'm breathing a sigh of relief tonight knowing that robert
10:03 pm
card is no longer a threat to anyone. >> i know there are some people and many people who share that sentiment, but i also know that his death may not bring solace to many. but now is a time to heal. >> now this late breaking news comes as a little more than fourth, a search of a little more than 48 hours got underway. an intense search for the accused killer. dive teams on friday zeroing in on the androscoggin river near the boat ramp where card's subaru outback was found abandoned. a rifle found in that car is now being tested to see whether it was used in the shooting. this gun, one of many the suspect owned, according to law enforcement sources. now, the suspect is accused of killing 18 people and injuring more than a dozen. he also left behind another key clue for investigators, a suicide note which was found as they searched his home
10:04 pm
in bowdon, maine. now, investigators are continuing to process the scenes where these community members were horrifically gunned down. a bar and a bowling alley. the bowling alleys manager, a youth bowling coach, a 14 year old boy and his father. among the victims, investigators is revealing card was found early friday evening ,but they're staying tight-lipped on how long he may have been in the woods. >> we found that body of 745 and it's 1025 now. so there continues to be a lot of work that needs to be done here at the scene with the medical examiner's office. >> now, a press conference has been scheduled for tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. eastern. kevin, the question so many people in this community are now wondering is how this army reservist with a document had a wall recorded history of mental health struggles. how was he able to keep his firearms? how was he able to keep these weapons? back to you. >> certainly, one of the bigger questions we will be tackling
10:05 pm
and i'm sure officials there will be tackling for many days to come see, be cut. and thank you, as always, my friend. we appreciate that. the community of lewiston, maine, can now obviously breathe a sigh of relief. the immediate threat facing both law enforcement and people living in the area is obviously now gone. >> but the investigation into the mass shooting, as could be just said, is far, far from over. >> we want to turn now to fox news contributor ted williams, former d.c. police detective and defense attorney. >> you know, ted, i speculated the first night that this was a likely outcome, certainly a possible one. so before we dive into the information that we're learning. how surprised are you that we are where we are this morning? >> well, i am somewhat surprised because i thought perhaps that this cow would not have to use the word coward cabin. i thought that perhaps he would not have taken his life, that he had gone out into the woods. but i got to tell you, i'd like the people of maine.
10:06 pm
the people of maine now can reclaim their lives. they can now reclaim their lives. but now they can breathe for the 18 that are no longer here with those that will not be coming back on this story. but this man is just something that was just so shocking and unexplainable. when you think about it going into a bar and just shooting up the place where people are just trying to enjoy themselves and then they go to a bowling alley where you have a father and a son bowling, what would went down and killed them. when you got a husband and wife that in the 70s, in the twilight of their life, they are mowed down and killed. and then we've got all of the rest of the individuals, unfortunately, that were killed and the dozen that were injured. so the training that we are all really having is that robert carr cannot not hurt
10:07 pm
anybody any more. and he is no longer here yet. >> central maine, the hospital there, we're still dealing with about eight people still hospitalized, five in stable condition, another three still in critical condition. you mentioned more than a dozen others injured in this circumstance. >> i'm just curious, though, about where we found mr. carr. and i say we i'm talking about law enforcement. this really was a community effort. people wanted to find this guy and get him off the battlefield, if you will. and yet it was fairly close to where i guess he had left the car. so how surprised are you that his remains were found where they were? >> i'm not surprised about where the remains were found. i got to tell you, because we know that he left that car in lisbon, maine. now, once he got out of the car, the big question was, where was he? and you would have to believe
10:08 pm
that investigators would have gone over the area in which his remains were found. i don't know, mr. romanes, but i do know that is we know that around 7:00 last night, his remains were found. we know that he was self-inflicted gunshot wound, that he killed himself there in those woods. but as you've said, kevin, the investigators and now is just beginning. there's so, so many questions that have to be answered, be covered. some of those questions are and primarily is how did a person with mental illness. how was he able to get these long guns? ar-15, the gun that was used to kill all these people and the wounds so many. you know, i'm looking at some of my notes. that's obviously one of the big
10:09 pm
ones. and i think there are others, ted, that you've mentioned and during our coverage over the past couple of days, among them not only how was he able to acquire this, apparently he had been at least temporarily hospitalized. and in that circumstance, again, you would expect that someone would make sure upon his release that that would not be something that would be available to him . but obviously, those are questions for the days ahead, and i'm sure there will be many others as we continue to look at what has happened here. thankfully, though, tonight for the folks in maine, it is a chance to finally rest easy. ted williams, thank you, my friend. >> would appreciate it very much to you, my friend. turning now to our other top story, tensions rising in the middle east as israel moves closer to a full invasion of gaza. israeli defense forces are once again conducting targeted ground incursions and communications have been knocked out in gaza. we'd like to bring in chief correspondent and our co-anchor for tonight, jonathan hunt,
10:10 pm
live in jerusalem. jonathan, you have so much experience in gaza. this is a situation where not only do the israeli forces have to be very careful as they try to perhaps engage in a more grand scale, a full scale movement into gaza. you're talking about tunnels, you're talking about who knows what else is over there. >> but i think the planning has to continue because we're still dealing with hostages on the ground. yeah, it's a daunting prospect and a terrible sophie's choice, if you like. the prime minister netanyahu is weighing here. kevin, on the one hand, there is a great desire within israel for that ground invasion to happen and for hamas as the israeli government has promised to be completely destroyed. on the other hand, there are something like 229 hostages being held somewhere in gaza. every one of those hostages has a family that desperately wants
10:11 pm
to get them back. so prime minister netanyahu is having to weigh the prospect of getting those hostages back with how that will be impacted when the major ground invasion goes on, that we have seen these targeted raids over the last 12 to 24 hours on the ground. but also we've seen new airstrikes. and it appears, kevin, that what they're doing right now is very much targeting hamas military leaders. for instance, we just got an announcement from the idf within the last few minutes that they took out with an air strike, the head of what they call hamas's aerial array in one of the most recent strikes. now, this was the man they say ,who is responsible for hamas's uav is its drones, its paragliders. and you'll remember some of the terrorists on october the seventh entered israel and launched their strikes by coming out of gaza via paraglide, too.
10:12 pm
so the israelis will certainly consider taking out the commander of that particular unit, a very valuable strike indeed. and it will continue. i want to bring in now as we talk about all of this, fred fleitz, who is vice chair at the center for american security at hfp. he's also former chief of staff at the national security council. brad, great to have you with us this morning here from jerusalem. the the late hours obviously back in the united states. brad, i wonder what you make of the of the raids, the ground raids that we have heard about. we don't have a lot of detail on them into gaza today and this clearly stepped up airstrikes. is this the last phase, would you say, of the softening up, if you like, before the major ground invasion happens? >> charlie, it's good to be here. well, israelis obviously picking up the pace of operations and we've heard
10:13 pm
reports over the last few days that maybe israel is going to delay the invasion to get hostages out, that the biden administration is asking for this premature netanyahu he will order an invasion when he thinks the time is right, when he thinks that his military is ready. but the first stage has to be to clear the way. we know that hamas was ready for an invasion. they knew this was happening. and we know they're there are there are landmines, there are traps or snipers. so there's simply can't be an abrupt and an abrupt invasion. israel has to clear the way and put their troops in when they think the time is right and the ground is ready. and what about the weighing of the the hostages, the fate of those hostages? obviously, brad, in this situation, those hostages are worth much more to hamas now alive than dead. but what happens when those ground troops come on, come in,
10:14 pm
and the hamas forces start scattering along those tunnels? what happens to the hostages then, who are presumably held in one in various individual places throughout the tunnel network right now when they have to start moving them? it's a different game, is it not? >> it is. it's a terrible choice. hamas took these hostages to delay or prevent an israeli invasion, and it's been trickling out. small number of hostages to buy time. and israel has to make a decision. when has it waited long enough? when will it push the invasion? it's got not to let hamas dictate when it sends troops into gaza and unfortunately, some of these hostages are going to be lost. israel, israel has to make a calculation when it will move and when it will take the risk of endangering hostages because it simply can't, by hamas, continue to operate as a terrorist organization in gaza. >> brad, i wonder if you were on the national security council now, what you would
10:15 pm
be giving in terms of advice on how we deal with iran, how the u.s. deals with iran in this. they say no direct involvement in october the seventh, but we know that they fund hamas. we know that they're funding and directing hezbollah up in lebanon, that that could yet be another real front in this war. so what should we be doing vis a vis iran right now, brad? >> well, i'm glad you asked this question. if i was with the next security council, the first thing i would say the next career adviser is stopped, the leaks and public criticism of israel. if we have problems with the way israel is executing the war, you know, those comments that president biden said he wants a surgical strike or no occupation of gaza, if he believes that privately, that's fine. but there shouldn't be daylight between us and israel at this critical time. israel is our ally. it shouldn't have to deal with america second guessing and criticizing how it executes
10:16 pm
this attack. iran is behind the hamas terrorist attack on israel, the worst attack on the jewish people since the holocaust and act of . i think the u.s. response to iran, the air strike that i guess took place 36 hours ago, was too weak. i think there should have been an attack that targeted the leaders of iran, led militias in syria and iraq . but more important, hundreds of millions of dollars, almost billions of dollars of aid is going to hamas through the failure to enforce sanctions against iran. we have to bring back maximum pressure against iran, put tough sanctions on it, and stop trying to renegotiate the terrible nuclear deal from the obama administration. >> brad, fly to always great to have your expertise. thank you so much for being here, brad. now it is israel. here comes these ground
10:17 pm
incursions into gaza. the u.s., as you heard brad just mentioned, is also striking back at iran backed fighters who've been targeting u.s. troops here in the middle east. how concerned should we be about that part of the conflict escalating? more on that straight ahead. fox news is proud to bringyo you this. she's a hero moment. she's a hero moment. even today, only a quarter they'd go, oh, you don't look like an engineer there. pis preconception. n spac some things are for boys. but diversity drives innovatioen . >> my goal is to really fliplu the script. pick something that you love pick something that you love and goeprint. >> how do we live in space? how do we live on the moon? i want to help figure that out. >> you can create a blueprint if you can see her, you can be her. >> do you have trouble hearing conversations? are you constantly asking loved ones to repeat themselves? do you miss out on discussions or talking with friends?

10:21 pm
10:22 pm
and we're just getting started . >> welcome back, everybody. kevin corke in washington. hunt joining us from israel as we continue our live coverage of both the major manhunt ending up in maine and, of course, the ongoing battle between israel and hamas jonathan. the numbers, frankly, bear repeating. 1400 murdered, more than 400 wounded. and most importantly at this hour, 229 being held captive in gaza. this makes for a precarious circumstance for the idf, to say the least.
10:23 pm
>> yeah, and they are extraordinary numbers. kevin. there are extraordinary numbers of killed as far as we understand it, in gaza as well. and 2.3 million people in gaza in the grip of what is acknowledged by everybody here to be an ongoing humanity tearing crisis. we're just getting some information from the israeli defense forces, though, kevin, that i want to turn to first. we you saw and heard on fox the huge explosions on the skyline in northern gaza over the last 12 hours or so. we now get some detail from the israeli defense forces as to what that was all about overnight. the idf is telling us fighter jets struck 150 150 underground targets in the northern gaza strip. those include the terror tunnels as they call it. the tunnels that we've been talking about a lot, underground combat spaces, spaces and additional underground infantry.
10:24 pm
so clearly, a very intense move to go after the actual tunnel, not tunnel network in northern gaza right now. and as israel steps up these air assaults and the incursions into gaza, the u.s. strikes back at iran linked proxies that have attacked american forces in the middle east. hours after striking two facilities in syria, they also shot down an attack drone in iraq. now, this comes as president biden, a short while ago sent a war powers notification to congress on the syrian strike. now, to sort this all out, we're joined by retired u.s. naval officer steve rogers, formerly with the office of naval intelligence. steve, great to have you here with us. what do you make of these latest actions, particularly those two strikes against what we understand were ammunitions, facilities in eastern syria? >> are we doing this the right way? steve? >> yes, we are, at least up
10:25 pm
to this point. was a proportionate attack a warning, a message, if you will, to iran? but we have to be perfectly clear or make it perfectly clear to iran if they pull something off like that, again, attacking u.s. bases and injuring and putting the american troops in the crosshairs that they will suffer dearly. we have to understand as a country that we're dealing with maniacs over there in iran and in the mideast. they want israel destroyed. they want the united states destroyed. and i remember ronald reagan's motto of peace through strength, where we got to show some strength and some guts and hit him and hit him hard. if they decide to carry on acts of violence against the united states and israel. and steve, we've got a map up right now. all the us positioning of forces throughout the region. do we have enough? >> are we positioned correctly, in your view? >> yes, i believe we are at this point. missiles or rockets or
10:26 pm
whatever could come from any bordering state, if you will, of israel. and we have enough firepower out there to take them down like did down with the yemen a week ago where they attempted to shoot missiles actually over our ships and our ships took them out. does when you see that kind of u.s. naval presence, do you think it is effective deterrent to iran or is iran thinking at this stage, steve, as i think a lot of people think they might be, bring it on. we want a regional conflict. >> yes, i believe that nothing is going to deter iran. they want a regional conflict. and keep in mind, you've got russia as a player. you got china as a player. and they've got their own reasons why they want to see a regional conflict. >> so we could be finding ourselves in a situation where we are deeply engaged in the mideast and i think we should be israel should be the priority. we got a situation in ukraine that certainly putin wants get our eyes off of that ball. >> and then president xi, he's probably scratching
10:27 pm
his right now, looking at the clock, getting ready to do what he's been wanting to do with taiwan. so, of course, we don't want to see a regional war. we don't want to see any war. but we don't want to see israel destroyed. >> yeah. and steve, as you look at american forces across the middle east, some of those some of those troops that we have in various parts of syria, for instance, in iraq, for instance, are they well protected enough, in your view, by the forces that we have positioned now? >> oh, yes. now, i believe they are well protected. perhaps. a week or so ago, not as good as they should have been. but now we have we had to make a decision. we're going to protect our troops or we're going to let iran have their way. problem we're facing is iran's perception because of the leaving afghanistan, where that was a big deal. they feel that we're weak, that we're not going to strike back, we're not going to fight back. but those two fighter jets that hit those ammo then sent
10:28 pm
the message that look at this is just a let's say, a soft attack. >> the next one is going to be very hard, if necessary. >> hmm. steve rogers, fascinating to talk to you. thank you so much, sir. and with that, let's go back to kevin in d.c.. all right, jonathan, thank you. coming up, a two day manhunt that continue by storm finally comes to an end. ahead, more on the community in mourning and what's next for law enforcement. >> maine? >> do you have trouble hearing conversations? are you constantly asking loved ones to repeat themselves? do you miss out on discussions or talking with friends? then you would benefit from m.d. hearing aids. don't waste thousands of dollars on expensive hearing aids or settle with the frustration of cheap amplifiers. right now you can get two revolutionary m.d. neo hearing aids regularly. $999 for only $299 a pair. >> i feel that m.d. hearing

kitchen nightmares mondays on fox and watch anytime on hulu starts saturday strong with big news saturday on fox. dillon gabriel has oklahoma back on top of the big 12. this could be a good one, folks . the six reigning surging sooners face off against the jayhawks in a tough road test. listen to this crowd. it all starts at 10 a.m. eastern with big noon. kickoff is a party out here, baby. let's go. the best pregame, the best announcers, the biggest games oklahoma kansas. big news saturday on fox. >> welcome back, everybody. the manhunt in lewiston, maine, following that massive shooting rampage is over. the suspect, robert card, found dead friday evening from a cellphone, flipped a gunshot wound. card had been wanted by police for killing 18 people at a bowling alley and a restaurant in lewiston. his body was found ten miles from the shootings. >> however, an is still underway as police now try to determine a motive.
10:34 pm
>> joining us once again live at the scene is fox news correspondent c.b. cotton, c.b.. a sigh of relief, to say the least. but as i mentioned in the intro, the hard work continues for investigators. >> hi, kevin. it certainly does. and the big takeaway is that robert card is no longer a threat to this community. and while people here process this news, another reality is setting in, kevin and of the immense grief this community will have to face in the days and days ahead, as 18 people are laid to rest. law enforcement say robert card gunned down those 18 people and sometime after he turned the trigger on himself, we know he was found with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound early friday evening in a heavily wooded area in lisbon, which is only about a ten, 15 minute drive from here in lewiston, where the mass shooting occurred. and kevin, even though card is dead, we know this
10:35 pm
investigation is ongoing. the governor is telling the community tonight that they are committed to looking into the facts of this case and figuring out what led up to this horrific tragedy. >> listen, i know that law enforcement continues to fully investigate all the facts so we can bring what closure we can to the victims and their families. and these are the 18 victims killed at either the bowling alley or the billiards bar and restaurant in lewiston. among them, four members of lewiston deaf community who were playing, a 14 year old boy and his father, the manager of the bowling alley and a youth bowling coach. >> we're going to we're going to grieve for the families that lost loved ones here. we're going to continue to work. we're going to persevere. and we've become better people for it is in terms
10:36 pm
of working together as teams. now, a press conference has been scheduled for tomorrow at 10 a.m. eastern. kevin, i suspect people are going to be asking a lot of questions about the suicide note, which was found in one of robert cards homes. we know this from law enforcement sources. i also would think people are going to ask a little bit more about the car which was abandoned where a gun was found inside that car, that abandoned car found at the boat ramp. we do know that gun is being tested to determine whether or not it was used in the shooting. people are going to have a lot of questions in the days ahead. back to you. yes, indeed there will be. i know you'll handle all the coverage for us. thank you so much. tonight. again, we'll talk to you later on. meantime, for more insight, we want to turn to attorney and fox news contributor leo 2.0 tomorrow. >> leo, this is frankly not terribly unexpected. if you think about some of the speculation that i had the very
10:37 pm
first night and yet now that we are where we are. two prongs here. first is what happens from a law enforcement perspective. they continue to look at this. and also from the legal side of things, they are going to be families that are going to be looking at ways at a minimum, feel like they deserve some compensation for the horrific acts that happened here. is that is that right? >> do you think you are? absolutely. thank you very much for the old question, kevin. you're absolutely right. let me just mention tomorrow, if i was at that press conference, two questions. how long was he dead as far as time of death, very critical. can they tell you how long the body was at that location? that'll be the first question. and when will the toxicology report be determined or when will those results? we know that usually takes a little bit longer to see what was in his system. those would be the first two questions. if i was at that press conference, you're also right, kevin you're spot on. >> there's going to be 18 civil lawsuits at minimum from family
10:38 pm
members who are going to file a wrongful death lawsuit against him. >> in addition, i think the quality of the yellow flag law needs to be examined not by those involved, but by independ observer, because i'll tell you, that man was institution of lies and that the yellow flag law, which allowed a psychiatrist or a medical practitioner to basically hold and keep weapons away from him. why wasn't that done? >> there's going to be a clash, kevin, between his medical privacy rights and the right to know whether or not, unfortunately, maybe someone internally dropped the ball as far as holding weapons from this man? >> can i ask you something about the lawsuits? and, you know, listen, clawback is a complicated circumstance. negligence cases happen all the time. and yet i'm just curious what happens, leo, for the people who are currently hospitalized, we're talking about more than a dozen others were injured. some are in stable condition. as i mentioned earlier,
10:39 pm
about five of them at central maine. and then another three are still in critical condition. can they recover in this circumstance? >> absolutely. kevin, i want to be very clear. when i said 18 that you can expect anywhere between 18 to 30, 40 lawsuits. >> the company, a store owners, those who are injured, have a viable claim against the estate of this individual. whether or not they collect anything is another story. but they'll be able to do discovery and also ask those questions why wasn't this individual prevented from handling weapons? >> so there's lot going on because, again, there's going to be an examination of a yellow flag law. i'm not here to discuss gun control or not, but whether or not that yellow flag law was handled properly. law enforcement, medical practitioners, all involved, they're going to be asked some hard questions. i applaud the officers, kevin, who did a great job in working the last 48 hours. and like i said again, i can't stress its enough, i hope c.b. or somebody asked those first
10:40 pm
two question time of death because he was within what, 15, 20 minutes from his car. and my understanding is that the officer had located that area or investigated that area. so it can be very interesting tomorrow, the press conference. >> yeah. time of death and also talks. and obviously, yes, we're going to want to get into the yellow flag laws. that's a conversation that i imagine will extend well beyond this investigation. >> leo tyrrell, thank you, my friend, as always, we appreciate it. >> thank you. thank you very much for having me. >> to break down to our next top story, israel is stepping up its ground and air assaults in gaza hanging ever closer to a full scale ground invasion. we welcome back the chief correspondent jonathan hunt, who's standing by live in israel. jonathan breaks there. how are things looking at this hour? yeah, 840 saturday morning here now, kevin. and over the last 12 to 18 hours, we have seen
10:41 pm
and heard gaza being pounded by israeli strikes. and the idf just told us in the last 20 minutes or so that they actually hit 150 underground targets overnight. now, that is key because clearly they are targeting the tunnel network that hamas uses and that we have talked about so much. meantime, communications and power in gaza have also been cut off as israel continues to ramp up these attacks. just this hour, as i was saying, the idf saying they hit about 150 targets in the northern gaza strip. that's where hamas is using these tunnels so widely let's bring in now former military intelligence officer john jordan. and john, i wonder if you could talk a little bit to what these latest strikes are all about here. presumably, this is trying to really soften up and take out much of the hamas military leadership that is hiding
10:42 pm
on the ground right now. >> john. yes. and it's also to disrupt, command, control and communicate as well as negate to the to the extent intelligence permits, ammunition depots and troop storage and troop staging areas. so the idea is to uncouple or decouple all of the different parts of hamas so that when israel goes in, whether they go in piecemeal or all at once, they're fighting independent units, not a cohesive whole, supported, controlled and supplied centrally. >> now, but it's the thought of the kind of urban warfare that the idf seems about to get involved in is a terrifying one, john, that this tunnel network, the amount of planning that hamas has clearly put into this. october 7th didn't happen without months and months of planning. and clearly, hamas was planning for the aftermath, knowing that israel would come after them.
10:43 pm
>> yes, john. jonathan, you're absolutely right. this has been in the planning for over two years. i mean, hamas said so in russian television a couple of weeks ago. america has to face a fact here that this did not just happen by itself. this has been planned. and we have to accept that at least at a minimum, with the tacit complicity of the russians, the chinese, and even the north koreans. it's important to understand the sinews of this alliance. i mean, you have iran sending drones and equipment to russia. you have china now buying iranian oil. now that the biden administration is looking the other way. they've let the iranian economy off the map. now they're able to more fully fund their malign activities around the world. and they're feeling emboldened and they're terrified by the prospect of an israeli saudi settlement. so the name of the game here right now is to kind of separate hamas from iran, if possible, and keep hezbollah out. and that means real deterrence with iranians, not just moving some pebbles around in syria. it means real deterrence,
10:44 pm
threatening and possibly the iranian oil terminals at jask and kharg. and that might be something the iranians won't expect. but they would certainly pay attention to jonathan. >> right. and john, i'm interested in and the point you made on on hezbollah, we also just got a notification from the idf that they struck more of hezbollah's military infrastructure in southern lebanon overnight as a as air strikes up there in the north. >> how likely do you believe it is that hezbollah launches a real second front in this? >> i think it's quite likely unless iran is deterred, because if they don't, hezbollah loses a lot of credibility and then that's essentially iran and hezbollah hanging hamas out to dry. and i think that's politically untenable. i agree with the previous guest that iran wants a regional war if possible, and so does china and sort of russia. but they want it on their own terms. so there has to be real deterrence and that means going
10:45 pm
deterring iran directly so that they turn the force it off. and that means going after them economically. and you can do that, but you would require the biden administration to do a complete 180 on their policy towards iran, and that may not be politically tenable for them. >> all right, john jordan, we got to wrap it up there. thank you so much for being with us, john. and with that, back to kevin in d.c.. all right, jonathan, thank you. coming up, the hunt for the suspected mass shooter in maine is over, but several questions still remain about the horrific attacks he carried out. >> don't go away. our coverage continues after a quick time out. >> attention. this is an important message. if you suffer from lower back pain, give pain and shooting pain down your legs. you could be experiencing a sciatic nerve pain attack. >> now, researchers have discovered a simple switch to instantly turn your pain off. it's called be active.

10:51 pm
>> and how long will the investigation into this mass murder continue? i think a lot of people are under the mistaken opinion that, well, i guess that ends it. but that is not the case at all. >> no, kevin, you were absolutely right. and this is a case that leaves a lot of lingering questions. and they're certainly going to be. so, you know, he was found less than a mile by 1.1 or so away from where he had abandoned the car. and i confess to some surprise in light of the fact that good bloodhounds were almost certainly deployed, according to the reporting. you would have thought that they would have gotten to him pretty quickly. that begs the question, if is maybe, as leo terrell was mentioning, maybe he was someplace else for a while before he came back there and did what he did, or maybe he did it immediately and somehow rather it was just missed. but, you know, the message that he was sending is kind of unmissable. this is a location that he was reportedly fired from the main recycling center and the
10:52 pm
reporting is that he was found either near or even in a dumpster. so when you put those facts together is and some of us have mentioned when folks like this commit suicide, it's generally their last statement to the world. and i think the statement in his mind there is kind of unmissable. >> so they'll be looking at that. they're going to be looking at motive. and as you've mentioned, they're going to look very hard at what was missed relative to the yellow flag. well, let me ask you and i appreciate you sharing that. i think people are quite concerned, naturally, about the people who were injured. is there going to come a point, paul, do you think, where they are interviewed, where law enforcement would like to debrief them? you want to be careful. these are people who are still in hospital. we have five in stable condition over at central maine. others are in critical condition, at least three at last check. >> and yet, i'm curious about is that an area where you would have to try to get more information? >> you will, although i would caveat that by saying the immediate necessary
10:53 pm
necessity for it now is somewhat lessened because obviously the threat has been mitigated. >> unless we find that somebody was helping him, somebody knew about it, that you know, didn't raise the alarm very clearly. this guy was exhibiting some real signs of distress. and this goes again, the note and the motive. you know, he was reportedly had begun to hear voices and had created something in his mind that the people at these two locations were talking about him. and he had connection to both locations. he reportedly frequented them. and i can't help but think it's not a coincidence that in the second location, the bar it was deaf tournament night for and he was losing his hearing, which was a very isolated experience, especially for somebody who's already suffering from mental illness. so it seems like he was conjuring some narrative here that is sort of sort of coalescing in this. it's this is speculative, but it feels to me like we're getting an image of a guy who was really developing an
10:54 pm
edge against the world. right. and he was apparently if he was frequenting those places, some of the victims may know him. and so, yeah, they're going to go into that. yeah, they're going to have to look into that very carefully. >> paul moreau, as always, my friend. and certainly appreciate your time and looking forward to having more conversations in the days ahead. >> thank you so much. thank you, kevin. turning now to our other top story, israeli defense forces expanding their ground attacks in gaza, which includes knocking out power and communications in welcoming back once again the chief correspondent jonathan hunt, who is standing by live in israel. 7000 palestinians have already been killed, apparently of more than a million displaced, jonathan. this is an ugly circumstance that is likely to get worse before it gets better. >> it's certainly going to get a lot uglier. and overnight, the israeli air force has been pounding gaza. one 150 airstrikes we heard as we approach 9 a.m. here on saturday morning, 150
10:55 pm
airstrikes against underground targets that obviously is meaning the tunnels that hamas is using, the tunnels that they have built over so many years, and where they have so many supplies, military and otherwise. we also heard of ground incursions into gaza and skirmishes with hamas forces, presumably also looking for reconnaissance on where those 229 hostages might be. i'm jonathan hunt in jerusalem . stay with fox for our continuing coverage. kevin, back to you in d.c. jonathan, it's so invaluable to have you with us as always. we certainly your reporting and obviously stay safe, as i've mentioned. i'm kevin corke here in washington. we'll have much more on the now over manhunt in maine. >> answers yet to come. j.p. m and we thank you for watching fox news channel. we continue our coverage we continue our coverage throughout kneasy >> jpmorgan wealth management. it's easy to get lost in investment research,
