ground and the sky, prime minister benjamin netanyahu calling this second stage of the war, the idf claiming it's hit hundreds of key targets in the past 24 hours including hamas command centers. gaza's health ministry says 8,000 people have died in the territory, most of them women and children. welcome to a special hour of "fox news live," i'm mike emmanuel. aishah: mike, good to see you again. i'm aishah hasnie. power is now being restored for many in gaza after israeli strikes put the region in a communications blackout saturday. the idf hitting areas near one of gaza's largest hospitals saying hamas uses that hospital as a base. meanwhile, thousands of palestinians today broke into aid warehouses searching for basic survival items, searching for food. the u.n. calling it a sign of growing desperation and decaying civil order in the strip. mike: we have fox news team coverage with alex hogan and trey yingst both live in southern israel.

let's go first to trey. hello, trey. >> reporter: yeah, mike, good afternoon. we have an update to the start this for you. we understand according to the spokesman for the israeli military that 239 people are confirmed to be held inside the gaza strip. that number continues to rise as the israelis investigate and gather more information about who exactly was taken into gaza a and who was killed following the october 7th massacre. we do have some new video for you showing the israelis operating inside the gaza strip. we know two the nights ago they started what they are calling an expanded ground raid, but every indication is they will continue to push deeper into gaza. today our cameras were watching as the israelis were operating behind us on the edge of gaza, tanks and also artillery units near to the border firing deeper into gaza. the israeli airstrikes do continue at this hour, we can hear fighter jets overhead, and there is an understanding that the 450 strikes overnight will

rise as the israelis look to put new pressure on hamas and the palestinian people feeling that pressure first hap. the aftermath -- firsthand. the aftermath of this krone video capturing the destruction, some neighborhoods leveled as residents are still being told to head further south as the us a reillys push deeper into the northern part of the strip. many tent cities have been set up, the video coming outed of palestinians going into a warehouse that is being controlled by the united nations to try to get any sort of food and signifies that they can. -- supplies that they can. one piece of positive news tonight, the palestinian red crescent saying 24 aid trucks were able to pass into gaza through egypt's rafah crossing, an indication that there could be conversations and pressure being put on the israelis and, of course, the egyptians to the try to get more aid to the palestinian people. mike? mike: trey, we just saw a readout of the conversation from president biden and prime minister netanyahu where the white house is emphasizing the need to step up humanitarian

assistance. sounds like a common theme because there's a great need, correct? >> reporter: absolutely. and we're not just talking about food and supplies, but also direct medical aid. there are thousands of injured palestinians who are not able to get proper medical treatment because hospitals have been damaged. they are low on power and fuel, and they're unable to properly treat these individuals. a very vulnerable population. and you saw the images of the tent citieses, and many people have heeded those warnings by the israelis to head south. but very quickly they will run out of supplies. and that is part of this parallel story that we have to cover here, the thousands of vulnerable people who are injured and the more than 2 million palestinian civilians who are not fighters that are currently stuck as the blockade continues on gaza. mike? mike: trey yingst live in southern us ceil finish do israel, thanks very much.

aishah: our alex hogan is standing by as our coverage continues now, the war entering a fourth week, and israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu saying this will be a very long and difficult battle. alex, what are you seeing from where you are right now? >> reporter: hi, aishah. in this part of southern israel we have been continually hearing the sound of jets, you can likely still hear them overhead with artillery and tanks constantly rolling by the street where we are standing right now. meanwhile, the id finishing, the israeli defense force, says that in the last 24 hours it managed to carry out strikes on about 450 targets. remember, it said it is continually going after hamas tunnels as well as other key infrastructure. and tonight we're also seeing new tension in the northern part of the country with the border of lebanon. remember, it was just last night when the country's defense minister, yoav gallant, said while the focus is here on the northern gaza strip, the country will not stop and will not his at tate to defend itself on all

fronts. we've seen smoke billowing up from gaza today. the international criminal court tonight is calling on israel to insure that a civilians in gaza have access to food and to medicine. thousands of people in gaza today were breaking into a warehouse to get their hands on flour and hygiene products, again, just giving you an idea of the desperation there. now back here practically the entire town has fled. [speaking in native tongue] >> translator: this should be the last war,this is the expectation of all of us from this situation. and the residents as well. no matter how hard it is for them, the residents have patience. they are begging the state and the military in what they need to do to end this once and for all. >> reporter: and to give you an idea of what it is like for our team and for others who are here as we were setting up just a little bit earlier for this live shot, we could see a few rockets in the distance that were being fired toward where we

are. we were able to run into a helder within about 10 seconds -- shelter, within about 10 seconds we could hear the impact of the iron dome. aishah: alex, that's a great point because i think it's so important to remind people that even the israelis there in those towns, they can't -- they have to be so on guard because they are also being bombarded by these rockets. just in the town that you are at right now, i mean, what is it like? people are not going outside, are they? >> reporter: no. there's a very large military presence that you see practically everywhere you drive, and that is about -- you do not see many civilians. only 10% of the city is still here. most of the residents have fled all across the country. i talked with the spokesperson for the city who is here manning the -- more tanks pass by right here. no civilians, just military presence. that spokesand person told me for the remaining people who are here, they are urging them to

leave, but there is a call center. the hospital is not exactly what they would hope for at this point, they're sending them to another city. there is an infirmary here, but the main focus is to ask people if they can leave and go somewhere else safely, that is the message they are trying to to send. aishah: just incredible. a whole town deserted, alex. one more last question for you. any idea, any indication from the military portions that you are talking to -- forces that you are talking to on the ground, we've heard prime minister benjamin netanyahu say this is going to be the a long war. is there any indication of when these people might be able to come back home to even collect some items and then go back to where they're hiding? >> reporter: well, i asked a similar question today about that, when will people start to come back, what does this look like, and over and over again what we have heard is that same message. they're in this for the long haul. for a lot of people who have lived in these border towns and cities, they have been used to continual conflict and tension. they're hoping, they're saying that they're patient this time

that this will be the end to some of these attacks that they have seen on their towns and on their cities and that there's no rush in this sense. of course, that's going to create a lot of frustration especially for people who have fled kibbutzes that are in these small villages who have yet to go back. one man didn't even have time to grab his passport. but when people can start going back, i'm sure it will be a relief, but there has not been the sense from people that i have talked with that they think they will be able to come back and return to these homes in the short term. aishah: not worth trying right now. just so much fear on the ground on both sides of this border. alex hogan, thank you for your wonderful reporting, we appreciate it. mike: let's bring in a former israeli diplomat who has served as spokesman for the israel hi consulate in new york city. welcome, sir. >> thank you, mike. pleasure to be with you. mike: so now that the war has entered the second stage, what are your concerns? >> well, first of all, the major

concern for the idf and the government is to bring back our hostages. you have over 239 confirmed, and and i should mention a few dozen whose whereabouts are unknown, so they could be also inside the gaza strip. and at the same time, there is the overarching goal of eradicating hamas if' governance over gaza, it military and political capabilities. just like alex just said, israelis can no longer go back to the south living there knowing that on their very border there is another chance for the kind of massacre that we saw in israel three weeks ago. mike: how dangerous do you expect this urban fighting to be as israeli forces look to eradicate hamas but also try to rescue those who are being held hostage? >> you know, this is going to be a tough fighting mainly because of hamas' barbaric nature. as the idf has shown proof, they have major tunnels and headquarters underneath hospitals, clinics, schools. their own terrorists were

interviewed by the idf stated clearly on video to the extent of hamas' use of palestinians as human shields, and at the same time they have shelled israel up to now with over 8,000 rockets targeting civilian population. so this double, triple and quadruple war crimes perpetrate by hamas must come to an end, but it's clearly going to be an uphill battle. mike: prime minister netanyahu with is warning of a long war. are the israeli people prepared for that? >> the israeli people definitely in the south have been ready for it for many years now. even in the last eight rounds there has been a demand of the israeli government to finish the job because hamas' threats overth south and all of israel really has been very prominent in their rocket launching. and there was a fear of something like that could happen. i can assure you that this is an unequivocal demand by all israelis at this point that this situation can continue no more, and hamas can no longer be a

viable inti telephone our -- viable entity on our southern border. mike we know the white house is emphasizing the need for the israelis to step up allowing humanitarian aid to the to folks in gaza. is that what you've heard relay through conversations with president biden? and what about the effort to get humanitarian aid to civilians? >> so, first of all on the humanitarian issue, mike, i just want to say that the word humanitarian should also pertain to the hostages being held by hamas, and i'm talking about the elderly holocaust survivors, babies, women, children, and there needs to be a clear demand from them. at the same time, the idf made it clear we are not at war with the innocent people in gaza, and we are allowing humanitarian supplies to come into the south of the gaza strip. it's only hamas -- if only hamas allows the palestinians to move from the area of the fighting to the south which right now we're hearing of hamas establishing roadblocks, shooting people who are trying to escape the combat

zone. so it's quite clear that the reality that hamas is interested in as many palestinians casualties as possible is one of the more difficult situations we're up countering -- encountering now. mike: i lend after september 11 -- i remember after september 11th the country going through different stages of grief. i'm wondering where the israeli people are three weeks into this war. >> that's a very poignant question, mike, and i've got to tell you that so many of us haven't even begun to grasp what thing magnitude of the atrocities. every day that goes by we keep on hearing more and more about the nature of the cruelty of hamas' actions of or torturing children in front of their parents, of torturing parents in front of their children, of torching babe with byes alive, beheading them. it's very difficult to cope with this, and it's going to be a while. but right now we are focused not on the grief as i like to say, our tears are now fire, and we

now have to eradicate that hamas from our southern border after which there will be a time when we're going to have to mourn the terrible, barbaric massacre that occurred on our southern border. mike: thank you very much for your time, sir, i wish you well. >> thank you for having me. mike: aishah? aishah: well, mike, another u.s. military base in syria was attacked overnight. it's the latest in some 20 the attacks now just this month on american military facilities in both iraq and in syria. all this as the u.s. has bolsteredded its military presence by moving the uss eisenhower carrier strike group into the eastern mediterranean closer to israel. chief national security corps respond jennifer griffin is live at the pentagon with all the moves. you're tracking it all, jennifer, what do you know today? >> reporter: well, this attempted drone strike on a u.s. installation in northeast syria did not cause any casualties and no damage to the base

infrastructure according to well-placed senior u.s. military officials who i poke to. in fact, the iranian proxy drone landed in an open field posing no threat to the al shaddadi base. the pentagon and white house have sent a warning to the iranians with a pair of airstrikes on unmanned weapons storage facilities last thursday night and a message conveyed by the swiss directly to tehran that the u.s. response will escalate if u.s. troops are harmed. >> if american troops are attacked by iran and its proxies, we will respond. we did respond. if attacks continue, we will respond. and i think the iranians understand our message. and we, of course, are taking every measure necessary to protect our forces, to increase our vigilance and to work with other countries in the region to try to keep this conflict that is currently in israel and gaza from spinning out into a regional conflict. but the risk is real and, therefore, our vigilance is high. >> reporter: meantime, the u

uss dwight d. eisenhower, which is enroute to the persian gulf, entered the mediterranean today, another message of a deterrence to tehran. the real problem facing the israelis right now is tow -- how to attack the miles and miles of hardened hamas tunnels under gaza. u.s. forces have trained with the two specialized israeli units who focus on clearing the tunnels. the idf relies leased this -- released this rendering of how they believe the tunnel network runs right underneath gauze -- gaza's main tunnels. president biden did speak with prime minister benjamin netanyahu today. he also spoke to egypt's president el sisi, the saudi defense minister will be at the white house monday as concerns grow that this conflict between israel and hamas could spill over into the region, forcing the u.s. and its allies to confront iran directly. aishah? aishah: yeah.

working very hard to prevent that. jennifer griffin, thank you very much. mike: a shooting in tampa, florida, leaves 2 dead, 18 others wounded and a crowd celebrating halloween running for their lives. police say at least two shooters opened fire just before3 a.m. in an area packed with bars and nightclubs that had just closed. police say one suspect is in custody, another still on the loose. aishah: the the lapd says it's you talking about account has now been suspended over the posting of footage of a violent attack on video-sharing platform. the department's channel posted video of the attack to seek the public's help in identifying the suspect. youtube now says that it's removed the video for violating its terms of service. it showed two suspects punching a victim and hitting them in the head with bolt cutters. no arrests have been made in that case.

gathering outside of his home, they're placing flowers, some of them meeting for the very first time, sharing their feelings over this tragic loss as they honor this actor's legacy. now, tmz reports that his assistant found him unresponsive yesterday morning here at his home in the jacuzzi, several hours after perry finished a 2-hour match of pickleball. they also report that first responders did not find illegal drugs at the scene, but they did find numerous prescriptions including antidepressants and drugs to help with anxiety and chronic obstructive pulmonary if disease. many fans now heart broken by the sudden loss of this tv icon who have just, again, 54 years old. so you're tearing up. you were crying. >> i was. even my husband -- even though i never knew him, you don't know how much somebody that you admired can actually hit you so much. >> reporter: people crying, people hugging,, very heart

broken. and take a look at this, this is perry's last instagram post from six days ago. he posted a nighttime photo of his hot tub and said, oh, so warm water with swirling around makes you feel good. i'm mattman. that post has more than a million likes and thousands of tributes, many people saying they feel like they've lost a friend. there's the also a statement on the official friends instagram account, it reads: we are devastated to learn of matthew's passing, our heart goes out to his family, loved ones and all of his fans. the 54-year-old actor is most known for his sarcastic, witty and fun-loving role as chandler on friends we all loved. that show ran for ten seasons. but he was also known for helping people struggling with addiction by sharing his own powerful story. he opened up about his decades-long struggle with alcohol and drug use which resulted in a number of medical issues and a brief stint for him on life support as perry detailed in his 2022 memoir

aishah: the grieving process just beginning in lewiston, maine, the deaths of 18 people in a mass shooting on wednesday night has left this small town just starting to pick up the pieces after a 2-day manhunt ended with the suspect being found dead near a recycling plant where he used to work. nate foy foy has more from the scene. >> reporter: the healing process continues to inch forward here. during a prayer service this afternoon, a candle will be lit in the honor of the 18 people murdered many wednesday night's shooting, and there will also be an individual moment of silence for each of those victims. there was a similar event last night in lisbon falls. take a look at this, 150 people showed up for a candlelight vigil. many of these people using faith to persevere through tragedy. there are still questions about the warning signs missed before the shooting. maine police departments received a statewide alert just last month to be on the lookout for robert card after he made threats against his base and fellow soldiers, but we spoke

brooklyn where you saw thousands of protesters marching on the streets, they also started walking across the brooklyn bridge, shutting it down temporarily to traffic. protesters say they're trying to prevent additional deaths and injury to palestinians in gaza as israel attempts to destroy hamas strongholds there following the terrorist group's attack on israeli civilians on october 7. >> we know that the palestinian people have been so resilient in the face of many invasions like this, and we hope that palestine will continue to fight for their right to be free. >> reporter: a pro-palestinian rally in los angeles also attracted several thousand people, many of them college students. and while some protesters at these rallies are calling for peaceful two-state resolutions, others are chanting from the river to the sea, a slogan that many interpret as a call for the elimination of israel as a

mission. in new orleans a student who shot this video of a protest that turned violent just outside the campus of tulane university says he believes student protesters from other nearby colleges brought their rally to tulane for a reason. >> tulane is a 44% jewish population of students, so it seems like they're specifically targeting such a university to, you know, promote hate and to an tag nice jewish students and to, frankly, scare us and make it so we're afraid to go to class. it's deeply concerning. >> reporter: in connection with that protest, one person was arrested for allegedly writing anti-semitic graffiti on the side of a building just off of campus. tulane says it has beefed up police patrols following that protest that took place on thursday, and there may be additional arrests as police review video of the protest.

including tel aviv. it comes as israel's prime minister announces stage two of what he warns will be a long and difficult war with hamas. lucas tomlinson is live in tel aviv right now with the very latest prosecute ground. hi, lucas -- from the ground. >> reporter: aishah, israeli forces have now been inside the gaza strip for nearly two days now, and israel's prime minister says they're going to be staying a while. speaking to the nation last night, netanyahu said, quote, the war inside the gaza strip will be long and difficult, and we are ready for it. this is our second war for independence. now today netanyahu visitedded a navy base not far from gaza where he met with members from israel's navy seals who recently assaulted the beaches of gaza. netanyahu took some heat after a late night tweet last night insisting he was not warned by his intelligence chief about the potential for hamas to launch that attack prior to october 7th. he deleted the post some 9 hours

later and issued a rare apology afterwards. israeli forces have now been inside gaza for two days now, pushing two miles south along the beach. israel using dismounted infantry along with tanks and artillery. the israeli flag was flown over gaza for the first time today since 2005 two. thetop -- popular sentiment is to support this push into gaza. we recently spoke with a former infantry officer whose daughter and boyfriend were killed at the music festival during the october 7th massacre. >> hamas is an organization that should not exist anymore. i'm not saying this because of hatred. anyone that's in gaza now is associated with with hamas. we will take gaza down. gaza will not be the same. gaza will be flattened down. >> reporter: he also says it's time for the palestinians to strive for peace. aishah? aishah: lucas, really quickly, you're in tel aviv which is such

a normally lively, lively city in israel. can you tell us about the mood in this city right now especially as people begin to really take in the fact that this is going to be a long, long war? >> reporter: it's pretty quiet here, aishah. you can, you know, walk along, go to the markets. i'm looking around at the streets, it's very quiet right now. of course, with 360,000 reservists called up and everybody's mind on the war, it's just not the scene that it used to be for obvious reasons. but the mood is very bullish, very hawkish. most people here support this incurse, this invasion into gaza, and they want to see hamas destroyed, aishah. aishah: okay. lucas tomlinson, thank you. mike: the biden administration says it will support a humanitarian pause in the gaza fighting in an effort to bring home hostages. the white house calling for israel to do all it can to protect civilians in its war on hamas terrorists. alexandria hoff is live in

wilmington, delaware, where the president's spending the weekend with more. hello, alex. >> reporter: hello, mike. well, this is really the first time that u.s. and allies is are split with israel on this idea of a humanitarian pause. the idea behind that would, of course, be to get humanitarian aid into gaza and that sill tate the safe passage of hostages. the israeli defense ministry have rejected these calls from other g7 countries essentially saying hamas cannot be trusted during a military pause. here's national security adviser jake sullivan on that. >> a humane mantarian -- humanitarian pause would be a good thing to get hostages out, but you can bet hamas will try to use that to their advantage as well. these are the things that israel is trying to grapple with. >> reporter: republican senator james lankford shares concerns that hamas will not adhere to a good faith pause in fighting. >> if you pause, it gives opportunity for hamas to dig in

more and to be able to lay more booby traps. so it is a judgment call that has to be made on the ground based on intelligence ooh right now. >> reporter: so the next hurdle for the white house will be getting the $106 billion aid package through congress where new house speaker mike johnson says that he's going to push through a stand-alone bill that unties aid for ukraine and israel. >> there are lots of things going on around the world that we have to address, and we will. but right now what's happening in israel takes the immediate attention, and i think we've got to separate that and get it through. i believe there'll be bipartisan support for that, and i'm going to push very hard for it. >> reporter: we've not heard directly from the president while here in wilmington aside from a statement and a thumbs up about the tentative uaw deal with stellantis, but we do know that the president spoke with the president of egypt today, also prime minister netanyahu. the white house says during that call president biden reiterated israel's right to defend itself, also they discussed getting

president trump, while anti-trump voters wouldn't forget his four years as mr. trump's loyal number two. and many saw it that way when he entered the race, he was kind of doomed from the beginning. is that how you saw it? >> that's right. i think it was hard for him to find a constituent i city. there's a a lot of distrust amh him and, certainly, represent represented a wing of the party that was ascendant so -- 10 or 15 years ago. i'm not sure that those are the things necessarily that are animating a lot of republican base voters right now who are really just angry as the way things are going. they want the economy to be the improved. they're not motivated by a lot of the small c conservative principles that motivated mike pence and that he has stood for all of his political life. and, again, the the republican field has just been totally stuck for months now. donald trump's lead is so prohibitive, it's hard to see anything but a catastrophic

event changing that, and maybe mike pence is one of the first candidates to confront that reality. aishah: and that was going to be my next question. is this beginning of a domino effect? are we going to see any more people drop out before the edge of the year? >> i think and new hampshire will be -- iowa and new hampshire will be where we start to see some of the candidates fall off, but these debates with thresholds of fund raising that some candidates could find more and more difficult to meet after, you know, donors may start to realize that -- [inaudible] so static because nothing, not indictment, no amount of money has been able to change donald trump's lead, and it might just be a waste of resources to continue pouring money into these super pacs ask campaigns for other -- [audio difficulty] and as you start to see that dry up for trump's opponents, it could mean there's that much less for anyone to dislodge his lead. aishah: okay. let's switch to the democrats here. some news in that world in that now we have congressman dean

word choices that the israeli forces are using. heir not the calling it an invasion or incursion, they're calling it expanding military activity. but with there's no sign these israeli forces are boeing to be leaving anytime soon. and one more point, mike, as much as there's been a lot of focus on gaza and the plight of refugees and people that have moved from north to south, don't if forget there's 250,000 israelis who were forced to leave their homes now and are internally displaced inside their own country. we interviewed some today, over 250,000 have had to the move, leave their homes both in the northern part of the country and in southern israel, of course, next to gaza. living in those kibbutzes or small towns, and is you've seen thanks to steve harrigan and greg palkot what's going on in northern israel with those hezbollah rockets. so there are internally displaced people that are refugees in this country, but the mood is very hawkish though. people in israel want to see their forces go in, they want to see hamas crushed, its top

leaders killed, mike. mike: lucas, taking folks at home behind the curtain, you are a united states naval academy graduate, you've worn the uniform of this country. and in that context, lucas, you understand the consequences of war and what's at stake for the israelis in this conflict as they go into gaza. what about that? finish. >> reporter: i think there's a lot of pride here in this country. they were punched in the face, no question, on october 7th. 400 casualties, people -- 400 casualties -- 400 -- 1400 casualties. it was horrific. but this country is uniting, and they want to go in and finish the job. they want to go into gaza and clean out hamas. they're very aware of the sentiment. leaders we spoke to here in this country say they do not want civilians killed. they understand it's a fact of war. but one of the things that israelis are looking at also is the united states navy, mike.
