option than the 80-year-old president who will not get line wine, better with age but only worse, he lost his fastball, if he had one, in the end we have a rematch very few want, trump and biden, this is a good candidacy it will remind voters there is another option perhaps we will get some traction. but in the end if is a losing effort. >> joe concha thank you for joining us on a sunday night, and you for spending part of your sunday with us, hope with you a great week ahead. you can find us on the trey gowdy podcast, good night from south carolina.

>> israeli str troops are now on the ground in gaza, the next stage of the war is underway with relentless attacks from ground, air and sea. prime minister netanyahu vows that battle has just begun. and iran warns israel has crossed red lines. good evening i think jonathan hunt in israel with a special two hour edition of fox news live it is 4 a.m. monday morning, here in jerusalem, once again, people in the region will be waking this morning to the violent sounds of war. over the weekend we saw most intense bombardment since the war between hamas and israel began this month. and idf troops have raised the israeli flag in gaza as they continue to push into
7:02 pm
the palestinian territory. and war casualties are climbing death toll in gaza now reported to have passed 8,000. more than 1400 people have died on the israeli side. unprecedented numbers. in decades of israeli-palestinian violence. civil unrest also becoming a problem across gaza, 3 dozen trucks entered on sunday, largest aid shipment against the war again, humanitarian workers tell us that the assistance is still short of the needs and thousands of people broke into warehouses to take flour and basic high hygiene products. the world watches and wonders, all this carnage, what does it mean for the future of the region. over the next two hours,
7:03 pm
we'll be bringing you team coverage of latest developments in the mideast and in u.s. we have alex hoff in delaware, and former israeli ambassador to u.n. danny danon will join us in moment we begin with alex hogan close to southern border. good morning to you alex. reporter: you can see the border with gaza, the lights shining just over my holder that is just -- shoulder that is how close we are, he can hear artillery early into the hours, the idf last night raised the number of hostages taken into gaza 239 people country defense minister sat down with many of the families last night talking about highly qualified people he said are part of the defense team, idf is pushing forward with
7:04 pm
the offensive releasing this video saying went last day struck 450 hamas targets, we have seen spoke rising from gaza as israel pummeled the area. going after hamas infrastructure. the show of force we're seeing will put more pressure on militants to return the hostages, spokesperson said that soldiers and residents are ready for the conflict. >> this should be the last war, this is the expectation of all of us from this situation. and thes redents as well, no matter how hard it is for them, the residents have the patients, they are begging state and military to do what they need do it end it, once and fore all. reporter: country is steel reeling after october 7 attacks, among effort is collecting the vehicles destroyed or set on fire of
7:05 pm
cars that were driven off the road when people were killed. in all of, that in preparation of returning this country to some sense of normalcy in gaza daily bomb bbombardment creating concern, president biden held talks with prime minister benjamin netanyahu saying that flow of humanitarian aid into gaza needs to be improved what we're seeing just hours ago, the largest aid convoy to arrive in gaza strip, 33 trucks, but jonathan, aids workers say this is not enough yet. >> you are seeing and hearing a lot of out going from the israeli position you are close to firing into gaza, i wonder about incoming. given the city has been one of the many targets for hamas rockets. have you seen and heard many
7:06 pm
of those rockets coming in today and tonight? >> we have multiple times needed to leave everything, run to shelters, one point we left camera we capturedded footage of the rockets coming toward where they are, they were intercepted. this has opinion a target for the last several weeks. so the city is largely a ghost town. 90% of the people who live here, have fled. you hear the sound. that was out going, there is no way to know who might still be here, when that incoming art artillery could happen, 10 seconds is nothing in terms of time you need to get yourself to safety unless you are directly next to a shelter, thankfully, we are. >> alex we very much impeach appreciate you being in.
7:07 pm
we'll be back to you throughout the next two hours. >> and president biden returns to white house from telecommtell delaware tomorrow, he spent the weekend talking to middle east leaders. the white house says that president discussed minimizing civilian casualties and gets hostages released during his conversation with u israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu, alex hoff with more. reporter: good evening, in addition to prime minister netanyahu president biden spoke with egypttion presipresident. the focus wass accelerating aid to get to gaza. and to netanyahu, the president said, i reiterate that israel has every right
7:08 pm
to defend itse citizens from terrorism and a responsibility to do so. -- vice president harris added to that in a interview on 60 minutes. >> without any question, has a right to defend itself that said, it is very important that there be no conflation between hamas and the palestinians, the palestinians deserve equal measures of safety and security. reporter: for first time in three weeks we're seeing u.s. and allies disagree with israel on something, over the idea of a potential humanitarian pause to military action to get aid into gaza or hostages out, israel has rejected calls, saying that hamas cannot be trusted to honor such a pause. a concern that national security ad adviser jake
7:09 pm
sullivan did not dismiss. >> it would be a good thing to get hostages out, you can bet beththat hamas would use that time. >> tomorrow the saudi defense minister reportedly visiting white house, administration would not confirm it was the case. >> alex, what do you get the sense that amount of pressure that president biden is putting on prime minister netanyahu regarding humanitarian corridors? we hear talk. is the sense you are getting from your sauc souse sources it is intense or let's do it if we can, approach? >> i think that the we have seen the tune change in a
7:10 pm
small way, statements from the conversations that president had with netanyahu. that it was first and foremost, we support israel defending itself, now reiterated with focus on humanitarian aid, president wants to make sure that u.s. is on the right side of that part of the story. deeply intertwined with fact we want hostages out of gaza. for those hostages to be in a condition where they come out, gaza has to be in a condition with people can survive within it. >> so many complexities, alexandria hoff thank you. >> joining me now, retired lieutenant colonel dakota wood, great to have you with us, what do you make of the ground movements that we've seen over the weekend appears rather than "shock
7:11 pm
and awe," israel is taking a more gradual approach to moving the troops in. start military maneuvers? >> absolutely, this spelling difference between urban combat and tank warfare in an open desert, when you have a lot of maneuver space you can do those things with maneuver forces, tanks, you know long range fields of fire, you can see where the epenemy is, you get into an urban environment, every window, basement, doorway, rubbled streets, that makes movement difficult, hamas has something what over 300 miles of tunnels. you have this vertical 3 dimensional battlefield, air power can only do so much. can only apply a bomb against a specific target, it takes infantry on the ground supported by tanks to get the anti-tank weapons,
7:12 pm
out of range, right? they have to get on those streets inside of the buildings, in the sewer systems and the underground structures. to find and root out the enemy. and to hope we find the hostages and rescue them. there is no other option but to go in on the ground into gaza. >> and dakota, we seem to see here, we're not getting the complete picture for good reasons from the idf . but appear to see the troops moving town the beach, west side of gaza, from the northern border. and maybe they are going to slowly move across into the meat if you like of gaza city? but seems that is kind of a pincher movement to come town that west side when you -- down that west side when you control the northern edge and eastern edge with your borders you have, is that what is going on here? >> it is an is
7:13 pm
an en. >> fighters and support their cause. they will do this complete circlement to ever extent they can to prevent resources from coming to hamas and contain them, p slow methodical move through a city to minimize civilian casualties, minimize that but also most affect of effective against the the enemy. >> what about calls for humanitarian pause, we hear as alex hoff reported there is some pressure from the u.s. for israel to bring about some sort of humanitarian pause. at least allow a lot more aid to get in there then
7:14 pm
from various other factions much louder calls for a complete ceasefire. what do you can make of the merit of those calls, dakota? >> biden administration is trying to have 't both ways, either they have never studied warfare, or they don't understand and appreciate the threat that hamas poses to israel. inspite of facts about beheaded babies and murdered young people and the atrocities perpetrateed. the abjecty it second. >> humanitarian aid coming in will be taken by hamas. energy, food, medical supplies, to sustain their effort to combat israel. israel has no interest in
7:15 pm
excess civilian casualties, everyeverybody shared on social media is more p propaganda. they have no objective, no interest no gain to administration more than what -- damage more than what needs to be damaged or injury more. the flathe blame is on hamas.. >> thank you so much l lieutenant colonel dakota wood. let's bring in now. danny danon, who served as israel ambassador to united nations from 2015 to 2020, he is a member of israel's parliament. the knesset. thank you for being with
7:16 pm
us. i wonder who is making the calls here? in terms of what happens minute by minute with the israeli military from your extensive experience. is this prime minister netanyahu making every single call here? or is this the leaders of the idf making the final decisions? >> so we have a strong democracy jonathan, we have a cabinet, the cabinet makes the decisions, and the military implements, these listen to the military, i sit on the foreign affairs and defense committee we meet with the generals almost every other day. and also with the cabinet ministers, we see how it goes. and we are strong bond between the military and the government. but at the end of the day, the responsibility is on the government. once the government decided we want to eliminate hamas,
7:17 pm
and spring the hostages back to israel, now it is military to do, that and to decide thousand do it, how -- how to do it how to maneuver, and they are doing it as we sp speak, my advice, take your time, do it slowly, we don't want casualties to our forces and minimize casual to civilians and gaza and hamas wants to do opposite, they want to increase the casualties, i trust idf to do what snided what is needed to achieve the goals we set for them. >> you mentioned word responsibility. i know this is early to get into it. but clearly there are a lot of israelis who are asking questions, i feel from my short time here on this visit, the questions are getting louder, who bears responsibility for the intthe intelligence
7:18 pm
failures? do you have any thoughts on this, i know it difficult when you are in middle of a war, but what bears responsibility? >> what happened in last 48 hours, was i think a mistake. we all agreed that we're not dealing now with the inquiry. we will postpone to day after we win the war and defeat hamas, then, as we speak. you know, we start to hear about concerns, and people start the blame game, i told my colleagues enough, don't do it now, we don't pla blame the military, i trust the military. we will do the inquiry what the day comes. those who made mistakes will have to pay a price, but today we p work together united to defeat evil and hamas. i know it is tempting, we all to look at what happened and ask the questions, but i think now we are to be pch patient about it.
7:19 pm
>> mr. ambassador, tap into your experience at united nations for a moment, we're expecting a meeting of security council monday, assume you would expect not a great deal of support from the u.n., given its history. >> no expectations they passed a resolution calling for a cease-fire, they could not condemn hamas, they could not speak about our victims about the babies that were kidnapped and 3 weeks ago. so we have no expectations from u.n. and i will tell you something more, even if they passed a resolution against israel woe we will continue. >> okay mr. ambassador i'm sorry i have to interrupt, a break we'll be back to you later in the hour thank you so much. >> coverage of the war in

weekend israeli forces went into the northern end of the gaza strip and they intend to stay there. they have raised the israeli flag. and we're told that more of those troops will move in fradly. gradually, we bringa erin cohen. freight to have you great to have you, what struck me the troops were going in. a lot of people expected a "shock and awe" approach with hundreds of tanks, and instead it seems that idf is doing a dpra gradual move. and build slowly. >> what you see, we have a term, it means this is a
7:25 pm
slow and deliberate clear, fool us once, shame on us, israel, followed hamas, into gaza last time we had an incursion it got bloody quickly, there was a lot of casualties to the israeli sides, the units that went in, israel slowing to down, iting not be shame on us gain. israel has a lot of intelligence they have been able to actualize in a short period of time, pegasus system listens to phone calls in gaza to get real-time intelligence, they are also using is a layered approach. nobody is stays static, you have those small pockets of special ops, my opinion they will be layered with tank units they are systematically but carefully dismantling the leadership, neutralizing dozens of hamas
7:26 pm
leaders at a time, starts with cell phones cut up on, and the disabled. as tanks and special ops move in they the have dozens of aircraft overhead providing support, they will keep rotating so they are not moving target, israel taking its time right now there no need to rush in there, focus on the tunnels. jonathan: at some point, aaron, if you are going to eradicate hamas. you have to go into those tunnels, troops have to go in there will be hand-to-hand combat at some point, or does the idf have the technology that will renterender that a moot point? >> i think there has been a misconception, people have
7:27 pm
idea that by they have to push in with all 300 thousand reservists, the ground war in my professional opinion started about two and a half weeks ago, this is a counterterrorism focused operation, it is special operations based. we'll see an extended operation over months, 6 months to a year, iz let's w israel will continue to pick apart and get intelligence, then work seselectively, i don't think we'll see a monster push, i think it will be israel's finest special operations units, that general staff reconnaissance unit imam focused on hostages and focused on tunnels we have up to 220 thr, hostages. this is a work in progress.
7:28 pm
work but i don't think you will see a men a monster push. jonathan: aaron there is nobody better than you to guide us through the complexities, we'll be back with more of our live coverage of israel's war against hamas. back in a flash. this she■s a he even today, only a quarter of stem graduates are women. they'd go, oh, you don't look like an engineer. there is this preconception. some things are for boys. but diversity drives innovation. my goal is to really flip the script. pick something that you love and go for it. how do we live in space? how do we live on the moon? i want to help figure that out. you can create the blueprint. if you can see her, you can be her.

i'm fine. that smack looked bad. not compared to the smack down i'm giving you. you sure you're, ok? you know you're down 200 points, right? lucky, she convinced me to get help. i had a concussion that could've been game over. in actual reality, you've only got one life. don't mess with your melon. if you hit it, get it checked. jonathan: welcome back to our continuing coverage of the war in israel as israeli forces continue to push into gaza in their pursuit of hamas fighters, in their efforts to rescue the 2 39 hostages held somewhere in gaza. let's go live to lucas t tomlinson in tel aviv with the latest. reporter: good evening. officialy say that israel forces killed up to 55

senior hamas leaders, and the israeli troops now in gaza strip, the defense minister said they are not leaving and time soon [speaking in native tongue] reporter: israeli forces spending a third night in gaza. covered by drones and stacked by helicopter gunships and jets, idf raised the israeli flag in for the first time since 2005, israel sent mechanized forces into gaza begin trfriday night. you have film from a drone overhead, popular sentiment here is that the population supports this incursion to gaza, we spoke with a gentleman here he would like
7:34 pm
to see israel nuke iran, not just in gaza where israeli forces have been active, commandos launched a raid in rest bank today. the idf rigged a leader's thousahouse to blow it. and a former member of the golani brigade. >> i hope first, gaza will be wiped out, not because we want but because we have to dedefend ourselves, i hope our forces will go in find out ought -- all of the hostages and bring them back without negotiations. reporter: about half of the hostages are foreign nationals, including up to 10 americans. jonathan: a difficult decision for the government of israel, and for the

jonathan. thank you very much. no, i don't have any information about my children. and the father. i don't know know what conditions they are kept, i know they are under ground. it is a bad condition, i have to say my child, my boy, he was just celebrating his 12 years old birthday in gaza, they mom, she was 80 years old, carmela, she was just celebrated her 80 years old birthday. and just after the day after, we count out she was kidnapped and murdered. with my niece. what can i tell you? you can imagine, it is like your little boy, kidnapped
7:41 pm
with his pajama, cruelly taken from the house from a safe place from his bed. and then disappeared. now for three weeks. for three weeks. no information. i don't know who nothing about them, you know. >> hadas, i cannot imagine the pain you of are going through, i wonder what you make of prime minister netanyahu's actions regards hostages and whether you believe, some of the family do there should be an everyone for everyone swap, israeli hostages returned for israel releasing palestinian prisoners it holds do you support that?
7:42 pm
>> i think the all -- nationality, must make sure to release them immediately. okay? they must get an agreement. and to release to make a prison exchange, yes. to make a ceasefire. to do the best to bring them home. immediately. they can't be a victim of this war. you can't make a war on exexpense of children and babies it is unbelievable. i think they must you know, this must be the main priority, the main thing. nothing else. of course, -- >> do you believe that the prime minister is approaching this in the
7:43 pm
right way? >> i want to believe, i want to believe. he is behaving in a wise way. i want to believe they are doing their best. but i am very terrified from you know they went into gaza, i don't know if it can hurt. i think our children are in a huge danger in the middle of this war. we all have a broken heart. terrified and like a nightmare. that three weeks nightmare. since they went to gaza, even more, i can't sleep or eat. we can't think about anything else. we are just terrified. i have to trust it. you know, i have to trust my government they are doing their best.
7:44 pm
but the all world must understand, and to make a big pressure to make an agreement to send them home, as quick as possible, i want to my girl and my son to be freedom, normal life, to go back. jonathan: of course, hadas, the whole world hears your message, right now. we're all heart broken for you. and we all look forward to the day that we can vow, here -- have you on here and see you reunited with your family. hadas kalderon thank you. >> we must not forget. it is a really cruel hands, you know. like isis and al qaeda, they are like monsters, we know of how it will end, we must rush, we have a small

jonathan: pro-palestinian protests expanding in the world this weekend. with demonstrators filling streets of madrid. and athens today. jeff paul with more. reporter: we're seeing protests all over the world, thousands getting together to voice their opposition to what is happening in gaza and israel, hoping somehow it will be enough to help stop the war. one of those places madrid, spain, thousands waved palestinian flags and chchanted in chip, it's not war it's a genocide. some calling prime minister netanyahu a murderer. >> it is a shame what shaping to palestinian people, and whole of europe are supporting it we should
7:50 pm
take to streets and mobilize there is at least a cease-fire. reporter: elsewhere in world, a large group of protester seen in beirut, lebanon, a sea of palestinian and islamic group flags, and similar pro-palestinian demonstrations held in india, saying that world is standing silent as people in gaza are being bombed and many are left without food, water and medicine and essentials to live. >> they are dying. in the darkness. there is no light. it is just so cruel. we can not just accept it. reporter: in london several were recorded after estimated -- arrested after estimated 100 thousand gathered to protest the on going war, several arrested to suspicion of hate crimes, two were arrested for assaulting police officers, one of the officers had to be transported to the
7:51 pm
hospital with a head injury but is expected to make a full recovery. jonathan: jeff paul from london thank you very much. >> let's bring back in danny danon former israeli ambassador to united nations. and member of israel's parliament. mr. ambassador, when you see the pro-palestinian protests we're supportive of concept of free speech but when you hear things like israel is guilty of war crimes there must be a cease-fire to protect the palestinian team. what is -- people, if you were standing in front of those protesters what would you say to them? >> i would ask them what about the victims, that were massacred and kidnapped israelis, i have not seen them marching streets when we were butchered three weeks ago, you know this sincsince is incitement -- it is incitement. today in russia a plane from came from israel and landed
7:52 pm
at app airport in russia and muslim radicals walked into the airport, pay got into the plane, they were looking for israeli and looking for jews, at last minute they were stopped by security forces. incitement leads to violent, we include all governments to not a well you incitement. those who call for violence should be arrested and stopped, this is just the beginning of the war we should not allow it to happen. jonathan: we're looking at video now, of that attack in russia. ambassador, at the airport in, it is extraordinary to think those kind of things could happen, it does make you suspicious at least that certain governments are not trying to clampdown on this kind of absolute disorder, does it not? >> absolutely, you know have so seen calls from russian
7:53 pm
government they have not condemned violence and they called both sides for ceasefire. you cannot make that equation between israel and hamas terrorist, you have a terrorist organization, and you have a state, and we were attacked unprovoked on october 7, it was unprovoked attack against israel we should not hap accept that language and demand authorities make sure that jews are safe in the world. jonathan: what of the question of humanitarian aid getting into gaza mr. ambassador should be there more aid getting in. is that just iz israel's responsibility? >> so, i tell you what the challenge is that hamas is taking advantage of aid. you know two days ago, unwa they tweeted to hamas raid
7:54 pm
aid storage and stole fuel and medicine and food, after two hours they erased that tweet, we know that control in gaza is in the hands of hamas, whatever you bring in to gaza you have to make sure it goes to people who need it, not the hamas, you don't want to fuel the war fa against israel this say very sensitive issue. jonathan: i think from the grandmother freed from being a hostage in there last week, mr. ambassador, we heard her say that down in the tunnels where she was kept, there are plenty of medmedical supplies, and food, pre presumably much of the aids had been being stock piled, this has
7:55 pm
been plans for a very long time. >> absolutely, they have enough fuel and food in tunnels, now, they are asking for more fuel, they just want to make sure they have enough to fight with us for weeks and months, we should not allow it. we're working with international community to mind ways to guarantee that aid will go to people in gaza, but it is really hard, because the u.n. is weak, hamas don't listen to them. but we try to find a mechanism that will support the population in it, but not enforce hamas, we'll in the give fuel to those who are fighting againsts t us. jonathan: mr. ambassador, i have been coming here to israel for more than two decades now, i have to say i have never seen this country more united, are you proud of the unity? do you think it will hold? >> first, i'm very proud,
7:56 pm
you see people volunteering, my son is in south with the people who are down there. everyone is sending stuff to the soldiers, and able to put politics aside and walk together as a nation, and jewish people are united. people from all over the world, are sending stuff to the troops, and we know that we will prevail it will be a language -- long operation, at the end of the day we have no choice but to defeat evil. jonathan: are in mr. ambassador danny danon, it has been a pleasure and honor thank you so much for being with us, ambassador. >> thank you. jonathan: 5 a.m. here in jerusalem. our live coverage of israel at war will continue as israel troops move in to gaza and hold their positions, raising the israeli flag inside of gaza, that is war that the prime minister has said, will be long, and will be difficult,
7:57 pm
7:59 pm
everyone has a community to lean on: a neighborhood, school, kids' teams, where you worship, work, work out, or any other place or group where you choose to belong. communities can provide support when you need it and even when you don't know you do. like when it comes to preventing underage drinking and other substance use. you've talked with your kids and shared clear expectations, but you're not with them every minute. your community members - friends and relatives, teachers and coaches, faith leaders, and other important adults in your kids' lives - can be your eyes, ears, and a supportive influence when you're not around, reinforcing your messages with your kids

jonathan: the sounds and sights of war. israeli troops are at this hour on the ground in gaza. confirming the next stage of the war it under way with relentless bombardments in the ground, air and sea. and israel vows this is only the beginning [speaking in native tongue] jonathan: i am jonathan hunt in israel with continues coverage of the latest developments in the middle east, and reaction from the world. it is 5:00 a.m. here in jerusalem, people in the region will be waking this morning to the violent sounds of war, or the weekend we saw most intense

middle east remains a troubling question. alex hogan is live in city of sderot in southern israel next to gaza border. where many are seeking shelter, hello alex. reporter: hello, it morning, israeli defense force struck million infrastructure in syria, after hours before we heard from the idf they were reporting launches from syria to israel. we are here near the gaza border, i want to give our viewers a look at what is looks like when rockets are fired here, we immediately ran for cover, but our camera outside was able to capture what it looks like, the rocket lights up the screen before the top right part of the screen, you will see it is intercepted. it has been a constant sound of artillery over head, jets and tanks rolling past us in
8:04 pm
sderot, with the idf they are importanting to push further into -- continuing to push further in. israel said it took out more than 450 targets, grinding on its offensive. as conditions worsen for civilians, the latest aid convoy arrived this morning about 3 dozen aid trucks. u.s. president president biden reiterated yesterday with israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu they need to follow international humanitarian law after thousands of people there went to a warehouse, where they were stealing food and hygiene products, underlining the desperation for people, here on israeli side of border, a lot of little towns have converted buildings to war romsrooms like this, someone pulled up footage what we saw hamas militants in real-time 3 weeks ago,
8:05 pm
driving into the town and gunning down a father and son, 3 weeks later is a guest on town -- ghost town, 90 percent of the city has fled. it is far from a quiet night, we have been here since y yesterday afternoon and heard constant drum of jets overhead, and drones and artillery. jonathan: alex, the people of sderot, they are used to the rockets coming in but vast majority have left this time. it speaks to just how different this war is. and how eerie it must be for you to be there in what is essentially a ghost town now, you can give us a sense of how it feels? reporter: i think it a strange thing to hear when we go to the conflict zones, people talk about the fact that they feel used to
8:06 pm
hearing the sounds of sirens and rocket attacks that something that has become normalized to them, this is say very different conflict, you mentioned in last show, a very different stage that israel and the conflict with palestine, they have not seen. we're hearing this artillery in the background. early in morning, this is only ramping up it is a quiet town when you drive around the streets they are bare, it is just a military presences that we see. there are 10% of city population,s red less -- residents who still live there but they are urging them if they could get further away, they urge them to do so. jonathan: alex we're very grateful for your courage, and reporting this early monday morning in israel, alex hogan in s sderot

thank you very much. jonathan: white house said that president biden talked about limiting casualties and getting hostages released while on a call with israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu, alexandria hoff with more from where president biden is staying tonight in delaware. reporter: good even, jonathon, president biden spoke by phone with egyptian presidency, see sisi. the president said, i reiterate that israel has a right. which prioritized protection of civilians. the biden administration is supporting the idea of a temporary pause on israeli military action to allow for aid to get to gaza, or hostages out if they were to be released, israel rejected
8:08 pm
this, saying that hamas would take advantage of a pause. senator james lankford we'd weighed on there. >> this is a judgment call that made on the ground by intelligence right now. >> vice president harris said that administration has no plan to send combat troops to israel or gaza, and asked about iranian proxies firing on u.s. military bases and airstrikes in syria. >> what is the message to iran. >> don't. >> president biden said, don't. >> right. one word, pretty straight forward. reporter: national security adviser jake sullivan spoke to that as well. >> to increase our vigilance
8:09 pm
and work with other countries in the region to try to keep this conflict that is in israel and gaza from spinning out into a regional conflict, but the risk is real, and vigilance is high. reporter: tomorrow saudi defense minister is reportedly paying a visit to white house, white house is not confirming that at this time am but those are reports, and to next month, president biden is expected to meet with chinese president xi jinping, that would take place at a summit in san francisco. jonathan: alexandria, what is the sense you are getting of level of concern at the white house that could develop to a regional conflict, how worried are they about that? reporter: you know we heard that president biden has been treating this delicately, i think there
8:10 pm
are some critics of president who say it is too delicately and overly concerned about iran getting involved in a way that would require u.s. troops or hezbollah perhaps would get involved. i think this is something that president biden is trying to balance, he a trying to balance a bit of conflict within his own party with you have progress of wing of democratic party that president so far has not adhered to their demands, but at in point, the cries will be louder, it is as pla balances act for president biden. jonathan: alexendria hoff thank you so much. >> let's bring in mitchell barrack, he served as a speech writer to top israeli and aide to benjamin netanyahu when he was deputy minister. mr. mitchell thank you, i want to focus on prime minister netanyahu, you know him. and have worked with him
8:11 pm
closely, how do you believe he is handling this? it is a horrible position to be in this situation. so many complexities, and difficulty, how do you think he is reacted and ledez leisrael. >> i would use one word failure, we have to split in two, his leadership until october 7 and leadership from october 7, he failed in both, he failed by we had worse year in history of israel in the last year in power. dealing with judiciarial reforming, he spit country in two to pass it israelis were hating each other, over this judicial reform. since october 7, a total failure, besides he has not taken report, yesterday he attacked idf, and security services, put you on a tweet. jonathan: we heard that prime minister saying that
8:12 pm
tweet, i was wrong not words you hear from a man like prime minister netanyahu. >> right, but netanyahu that is -- his strategy. he said it already. it got out, it hit the base, the basineds that netanyahu thinks that army is responsible he is not. since thin then he maybe met with hostage families once or twice and done no public appearances people will scream at him. he has not visited people in the hospital, his wife is in hiding, his two sons, one in miami. the other i believe learning in oxford or cambridge. it has been a failure of leadership, he has not.. empathized with anyone. jonathan: people for photo that t-- forget there a huge number of israeli displaced. talking of revenue crisis, i
8:13 pm
wonder what you make of -- talking of leadership. of president biden role in this the pressure put on the israelis from white house now, for temporary pause to allow more humanitarian aid, how is president biden doing. >> president biden is the one that is saving israel at-this-point here, is the leader we don't have, the person who. empathizes with isr. our team here, of netanyahu, is not really capable. they did not have a strategy on october 7, they don't have one now. >> let me ask you, on a personal level, your son is in the israeli military, how are you feeling about what the military is doing, the risks they are taking. what they having to deal with. >> i have two sons serving on active duty. one in tank war one in golani infantry brigade, i
8:14 pm
am concerned but i am proud, they are here to defend their family and jewish people, i have zero confidence in prime minister netanyahu, and someone that trashed generals it true he caught us off guard on october 7, we were not ready it was a horrible loss of what happened. the soldiers from ground level up are motivated. one of my sons, they have replaced three of his commanders they have all been killed this a very difficult spot, everyone one of our friends is impacted. and has children in it. but people there is no choice at-this-point. it is a privilege for them to serve at-this-point and to be defending their people. jonathan: they are an. >> thank you so much mr. michelle barrack. >> we bring in retired army brigadier general, what
8:15 pm
do you make of the military action we have seen over the weekend, it seems that to me a lot of people were expecting a "shock and awe" hundreds of tanks going in, thousands of troops pouring across the pofe the border at once, idf seem to do this in a gradual fashion is that smart strategy in your view. >> great to be with you, i think what the idf is doing is on point. they are developing the situation, they are doing intelligence prep oper -- preparation, they have a complex battlefield they will fight on with hostages and civilians and rubbles and tunnels and high-rises and booby-traps. i'm sure the technology is
8:16 pm
now in gaza. so, i think what the idf is doing their strong is intelligence collection, they are doing limited targets strikes to weaken the command and control long logistics and armament of hamas and to go in penetrate where it makes sent to do. and come in and move said piece, if you get too far in you can en envelope yourself by the tunnels. jonathan: at some . there will be hand-to-hand combat necessary? once they go down into the tunnels and israeli people, you would say, as a veteran of the military, have to prepare themselves for casualty the that will inevitability come. >> yes inevitability, this
8:17 pm
is tough business, and that speaks again to taking time to gate the intelligence right -- to get the intelligence right, the flesh and blood is going in there, the gentleman you were just speaking with at two sons, one in north and one no the south, you know they are -- up against savages d hamas, and so it c will be brutal 4 man stock going to a building and determine friend or foe, hamas hide behind civilians, they are making it hard. jonathan: on the potential for regional conflict. you look at way that the u.s. military is now positioned. the extra forces that have been sent to the region. and red sea, mediterranean sea, the bases that we're seeking to defend, you are comfortable with the way that the u.s. military is
8:18 pm
positioned? this region? >> i am not comfortable with anything. with this whole situation. i think the appeasement strategy of biden administration with iran, and i equivation has undermined israel. and you know, if president biden is their savior, they have a long way to go. because, they can't unhinge themselves from iran for some reason. and they are giving money to iran, and support to iran. and. about the message you are sending to israel people. by giving 6 billion dollars, unlocks 6 billion that you know iran will use for weapons and you know, be
8:19 pm
able it support the houthi rebels and shia militia groups in iraq and the hezbollah in the north and hamas. iran is running this, this is their war, by cozying unto to iran it lead us down that path, they have a lot of explaining to do they need to get serious real quick about countering the iranian influence in the region. jonathan: b brigadier general anthony tatta thank you. >> thank you for joining us. >> businesses need 5g solutions today. that's why they choose t-mobile for business. las vegas grand prix chose t-mobile to help power operations for one of the world's largest racing events. mlb partners with t-mobile to advance how the game is played.

jonathan: against israel protest have been breaking out on u.s. college campus, tensions running high at pro-palestinian protest at tulane university, protesters getting violent. worry more on that, and the complexities of this conflict we bring in dove waxman, professor of ucla center for israel studies,
8:24 pm
great to talk to you. before we get to b bigger tech pure, -- picture, as a profess or what do you make of this? >> i think it is both. it is an expression of free speech, some students have the right to protest and to voice their opinions, but what is happening as a result of some of the protests, that jewish students in particular are finding themselves harass and in intimidated, they have been forced to hide in some instances, students have over right to gather, they don't have a right to intimidate to harass or bully, others. i should say that some of these statements that have been made by some students, and others not always
8:25 pm
students in the protests, they are also really disturbing in the way in which s seem to accept hamas' attacks again innocent civilians in israel, in terms of rhetoric of slogans in particular the atmosphere it is creating on college campuses not all. but some, it creating when many. >> yjewish students are describing as hostile environment. jonathan: on macro level we hear world leaders spout some of the aim criticisms -- same criticisms, turkey president erdogan this weekend saying he supports hamas fighters, accusing israel of war crime, it goes from this sort of lower level of college campus to world leaders. >> well, i -- yes, i think certainly term its of
8:26 pm
international left, if you like. in particular on western left. there is a tendency. we have seen it on college campuses and heard from prominent academics and left wing politicians are who in their opposition to israel, their semp th -- sympathy for pehl palestinians are unable too recognize or condemn hamas for its shocking acts of violence, they in how confuse their stdesire to support palestinians with supporting ham ahamas, it is possible to support palestinian cause, while also making clear, that hamas is a terrorist organization, that is shown itself to be unwilling of any kind of support. jonathan: a very good point. professor. just on the politics here in israel, you study it so
8:27 pm
closely, i wonder how you see the future going for prime minister netanyahu, he a wartime leader. israel was united behind him sending troops in but we're hearing, criticism now. of the intelligence failures and of his approach both hostages back. -- approach to getting hostages back, highway do how do you see it playing out. >> i think we lost almost all of his support. domestically, and he is unpopular, he was already unpopular because of his government judicial overhaul. particularly for the events of october 7, his refusal to accept and responsibility, he is unpopular among the israelis it hard for him to rebuild any kind of domestic support, but he hopes that i think by demonstrating his ability to be a wartime
8:28 pm
leader somehow he will be abwill be be able to save his political career, i don't think that will happen, i think his legacy will be forever tarnished by what happened on october 7. >> professor waxman thank you. >> 5:30 monday morning. here in israel. we will be right back, with more of our live coverage of israel at war. jonathan: welcome back to jerusalem, at the sun comes up and israels enters the fourth week of its war against hamas. >> pro palestinian protests have been demonstrated throughout the world. jeff paul with more. reporter: we're seeing protests here in europe and all over the world, thousands of folks gathering to voice their opposition to what is happening. in gaza and in israel. hoping in how it will be enough to help stop the war. one of those places is madrid, spain, crowds of people waved palestinian flags, at times chanted in spanish, it's not war, it's a genocide. some had signs calling for

apologizing for seeming to put the responsibility on the heads of shin bet. is the some point there has to be an accounting for a failure of what has been called the strongest intelligent services in the world. >> you are right, the question is now the right time to point fingers. or is time to at least acknowledge that a mistake happened, find out where the intelligence failure was and if from there and months ahead, look back to where the actual failures were. it is -- we're had a real mess right now, but is something we request d -- we can do, i'm running for congress in north carolina as former intelligence officer on platform of send intellgence too dc, our

policy n noton u.s. but elsewhere are weak it has invited global instability, in past few weeks iran al arkattacked american forces 16 times and we have responded weak weakly on that. >> what do you think of the positioning of u.s. assets in the region now, we have seen these attacks on the u.s. troops in various places in the middle east we have maps of the posture we have taken. to we have enough aso thes here, and i'm talking about the military side of this not the political, are we strong enough in the region?
8:44 pm
>> i would say we're getting there, the fact that we have two carrier strike groups in eastern med t mediterranean sends a strong signal. in case they try to send some of their i think 150 thousand or so rockets from lebanon to israel, perhaps the americans could try to intercept a great deal of, that, with regard to rest of the middle east there seeming to be antiaircraft and antidrone activity we're setting up to protect our forces it is about force protection at this point. but from force protection you need to send the signal this is not anyone else's fight, to try to dissuade any other actors from getting involved. military side certainly is
8:45 pm
positioning itself well at-this-point. jonathan: interesting, in this matt, all roads lead back to iran. whether or not iran had a direct involvement in the attacks of october 7, hamas would not exist without funding from iran, hezbollah in the north, would not exist without iran 's backing, what to we do about iran there seems that there is little you could to militarily speaking without sparking a c confligeration. how to you get iran's influence out of the groups? >> that is a grit -- great question and remember that russians are backing iran, iran over course of russian invasion of ukraine has been providing many drones and ammunition up to russians, but russia and iran are

rich, pause of the high oil -- because of high oil prices in military we call it center of gravity, if you take away their money that a key component toward weakening them ramping up american energy prescription would bankrupt them and china requires a different strategy to deal with. the chinese are trying to get involved with, one way to strengthen our alliances in countries -- east asia and economic. and this is the way that i think that we could tackle this situationer to get the other countries to lose influence in the region through the economic side. jonathan: and matt, with your back young, you know the capabilities of idf well. are you confident that the israeli different forces will win this war however long it takes? >> i worked with idf when i was part of central command,
8:47 pm
i am highly confident they are very capable of for accusations of war crimes and such, and genocide, i have never seen evidence with regard to, that they are laser focused on trying to find actual targets and taking out military targets, they have no interest in going after civilians from what i've seen, with them, i am highly confident they will be able to fix this. as best they can. jonathan: matt shoemaker thank you so much. >> and our continuing coverage of israel goes on, after the short break. to duckduckgo on all your devie

jonathan: tensions continue to rise in middle east as israel starts what it calls a second wave of this war. targets strikes on gaza by the israeli defense forces are ramping up as people there is a things have gotten worse in terms of humanitarian crisis. let's bring back now, mitchell barrack. former aide to benjamin netanyahu when netanyahu was
8:52 pm
deputy minister, looking at political future of israel in a moment in the wake of the war, for the moment. present, i have never seen this country, as united as now. >> i think this is true. we had worst year going into this war where israelis were divided on the judicial reform, they hated each other, there were groups that was baseless hatred, anger, and disrespect. and all that changed on october 7, we saw worst in israelis before october 7 we see the best in people in every single group. getting together, working together. putting aside differences, and from a civilian level, until you get to government, from a civil analyst, everyone is working together. to fight this war, to support each other, people that are out there fighting, the families that have been if you go to a hotel where there is people staying, who
8:53 pm
have been refugees from the south and north, people are bringing clothes, and food, and kid kids to play, my kids who are teens they go to play with kids and calm them, people are urighted. jonathan: interesting. a lot of people that i have known over the years, who have been big support is of two-state solution say we have to get there in end, this not time are in that talk we have to deal with this, it is changed the dynamic then. >> correct, as israeli and jews as bad as things are it leads to something good. and as bad as things are in in the end something positive will happen away too early to talk about geopolitics in the region, to talk about that we're right now in the event, we're fighting for our survival in many ways in north and south.
8:54 pm
jonathan: a time and place, to talk about domestic politics, i have gotten's sense, that while country is united in fighting this terrible enemy, hamas, there is a beginnings of bubblings of discontents with the leadership. first, questions about the intelligence failures that -- were horrible on october 7. and then political leadership from prime minister netanyahu, since then. how do you think that plays out. >> israelis are first that i want to complete what has to be done, we're talking victory in is too late to talk about, that we're protecting israelis. the fact of the matter is that, israelis are focusing on winning or protecting, israelis, andy this will deal with political fallout after, it does not happen when netanyahu says we have
8:55 pm
to be united and he tweets out criticizing the army, he kee keeps digging himself in. >> he said there is a time to talk about inte intelligence failures and he did it. >> on his time, for him to talk about his responsibility there is never a time, the war is never finishing this war could go on for weeks or months, or longer. so, the problem is that a lot of israelis don't t feel they have a leadership this one party brought in the others were not for political the reasons. so, this bubbling up, it is getting worse, israelis don't feel that there is a real plan and there is someone who is uniting people, a lot of political appointments that we've seen, have gone to political loyalists of netanyahu and not people that show koo competence and
8:56 pm
relevances. >> and israel wins this war. >> we have no choice. we have no choice. it not only the worst day as many say, since holocaust this is the worst day this country this 2000 years, roman empire destroyed our temple and took thousands of jews, captive to be slaves in rome. we should remember that there is an afternoon of titas that this happened. we will be stronger for it and get our political act in order by electing real leadership that really cares about the people and is moving forward. jonathan: mitchell great to talk you to, mitchell barak, there concludes our coverage for moment of on going war between israel and hamas. after a weekend in which israel has significantly stepped up its strikes in gaza 450 airstrikes
