who is m.b.s.'s brother by the way meeting at the white house today with the senior white house officials discuss the war in israel. >> ainsley: this comes as president biden holding emergency phone call with benjamin netanyahu urging the israeli prime minister to protect innocent civilians in gaza and allow access to humanitarian aid. >> lawrence: as israel enters the second phase of the war, alarms are blaring across the israel, gaza border right now. offenses are airstrikes on hamas forces in gaza while the u.n. warns civil order is declining in the region. trey yingst joins us live on the ground in southern israel with the latest. what can you tell us, trey? >> yeah, hey, guys, good morning. we understand today, according to the israeli military, that i object fan tri troops are issue 'king deeper into gaza. i do want to show you the northern part of the gaza strip behind me. we have been watching this morning as israeli tanks go back and forth near the rubble that you see there in the distance. some of that white smoke on the

ground is from illumination rounds that the israelis are launching into gaza. they are trying to mark new targets. over the past 24 hours, 600 airstrikes have been conducted against the gaza strip. at different hamas positions. a significant amount of damage. and you see in the aftermath video here some palestinian journalists took a drone up over one of the neighborhoods that has been targeted by the israelis. some blocks are completely wiped from the map. the humanitarian situation inside gaza is getting more difficult. death toll rising. hospitals overwhelmed. yesterday, palestinians storming a u.n. food ware house inside gaza, trying to get any sort of supplies that they can get their hands on. this comes as the region braces for the possibility of the conflict behind me expanding to a broader war. national security adviser jake sullivan discussing this issue yesterday. take a listen. >> we, of course, are taking every measure necessary to protect our forces, to increase

our vigilance, and to work with other countries in the region to try to keep this conflict that is currently in israel and gaza from spinning out into a regional conflict. but the risk is real and, therefore, vigilance is high. [explosion] >> with vrabel forces operating in the northern part of the gaza strip, we have been talking with palestinian civilians. you can hear that outgoing artillery there. one civilian told me today that the israelis have targeted the two major roads connecting northern and southern gaza. an indication that they may be trying to cut off access to the fighters that would valve on the ground to the northern part of gaza and then ultimately encircle this area and burn deeper into the city. guys? >> brian: so, trey, this whole slow-walking into gaza, 100 yards at a time, two miles in, putting the flag in for us on the outside it seems surprising. they are not doing a d-day like invasion. this is a gradual push. and the flag on an area that

they never wanted and gave away i also found surprising, are you? the way they are conduct this operation was always one of the options for the israelis. it wasn't largely seen as the most likely. just simply due to the troop build-up along the gaza border. we should note it's early in this conflict. these could be the literal days of the ground invasion. it's hard for us to tell what the plans of the israeli forces are they are being so delicate and careful with the information that the israelis won't even confirm social media video that is coming out of gaza as to not give the location of their troops we do know because we have seen the video. we showed you there. the israelis are operating on the eastern and western side of gaza. on the eastern side we have seen the israeli tanks going back and forth behind the buildings that are mostly destroyed. despite the destruction, can you hear the fighter jets overhead.

they are still managing to launch rockets. we saw it from the rubble targeting israeli population centers 24 days into this war. thousands of airstrikes later and ongoing artillery has not deterred hamas from firing on israeli population centers. >> ainsley: trey, what is the latest on the hostages? i know the number is 239. they are saying that number is not final. >> hostage number continues to rise each and every day as get more information about who is alive and who is killed in the october 7th massacre. the israelis are working around the clock at the highest level to try to negotiate with regional partners and those involved in these conversations to see if there is a diplomatic solution to get any of these hostages freed. remember, already four have been released from gaza. two american citizens and two elderly women from the community ofner rose along the border.

conditions they can survive. as israelis pummel the northern part of the gaza strip, it becomes increasingly more likely that these hostages will be caught in the crossfire of the battles that are developing just yesterday hamas' brigades popped out of the tunnel engaging infantry troops on the northern part of the ground of gaza. gives you a sense not just air campaign and rocket response coming from gaza but real street-to-street fighting starting to take place across the strip. [explosion] >> lawrence: trey, we are hearing a lot of activity as you are doing this live hit and you said the word invasion. but the israelis haven't used that word yet. it appears to be an invasion, but they have used the words like raids and all of that. is this more of a semen particulars things because some of the pushback they're getting internationally? >> yeah. look. the israelis are being very

sensitive with the information here. i'm just turning around. they're launching more of these illumination rounds trying to mark targets across the gaza strip. my cameraman will pan in here so can you see that round over the tree top there. in terms of what is taking place here, we have been very careful with our information and what we are providing. what we understand right now is that the israelis are conducting an expanded raid into the gaza strip. there is no indication this is the full scale ground invasion. but, again, the vearlings aren't going to tell us if it is. so we have to be patient with this reporting. what we can confirm right now there are israeli forces operating in the gaza strip behind me. they may go in for a full days or weeks and pull out and more go in there and taking territory and adding troops. we simply won't know until it takes place. behind me they continue to mark those targets so artillery you hear in the distance can fire more accurately at gaza. >> ainsley: all right, trey. thank you so much. we appreciate your reporting. stay safe out there.

there were so many different riots and protests all around the world over the weekend. did you see the video of russia? in russia they had airport anti-israel mobs go inside this airport and storm because flight was coming in from tel aviv. look at this. two were critically injured. demonstrators were holding palestinian flags and shouting anti-semitic statements and chaos erupted that happened in israel -- i mean in russia. >> brian: a huge surprise, perhaps. and it looks like man, if you are a -- if you are an israeli or you are jewish. and you come in from israel where you just left a war. >> ainsley: just trying to stay safe. >> brian: you come in and you see this, you wonder will you be safe? am i better off in israel? >> ainsley: something they have to worry about lawrence. getting out of flight in israel when i land is this going to happen to me? >> lawrence: you had people climbing up on top of the plane. they were looking in every cavett of the plane looking for jewish people.

when this apex is happening in san francisco. what's your reaction and what do you think that conversation should look like? >> well, first of all, i would also add to your great list that china has been almost completely silent when it comes to iran-backed terrorist activity against u.s. military bases and, of course, iran-backed proxy attacks against israel. and so we know that china essentially backs the palestinian -- the terrorist attacks against israel. we have seen developing axis between china, russia and iran. if president biden goes to xi jinping hat in hand looking for help in these areas, it's further evidence that the biden administration still sees china as a potential partner in helping and doesn't understand that china is working against the united states. any time we see these activities whether it's in the middle east or russia vs. ukraine, china is swigd our adversaries because they want the united states to

be weakened and to weaken u.s. alliances. >> ainsley: what do you make of that he allowed that spy balloon to fly over our country. fentanyl is killing so many young children. we interview the parents all the time. what do you make of the president's lack of response. >> president biden seems to believe that china can still be a partner in all of this. every time whether it's blinken or joe biden or janet yellen they go to china with hat in hand and look for way tosca pit late or appease or look the other way thinking that the aggression will stop, that the provocation also stop. instead, it's ramping up. it's getting much worse. so we really do see a direct correlation between the appeasement and increased provocations in aggression. we have to take a different approach. president biden should go to xi jinping and say we understand that you are enjoying, that you are benefiting from all of these instabilities in the middle east, russia vs. ukraine. if you think this isn't a moment of opportunity where the united states is weak and on our back foot and can you move against

hamas has built more than 300 miles of terror tunnels beneath their cities and they do sadly live up to the hype. even into israel some 100 feet deep making them immune to airstrikes and filled with booby strikes targeting israeli troops. they wanted the israelis to come forward. retired special forces officer liam collins wrote the book understanding urban warfare joins us now from. what can you see this seems to be a unique way to start an urban war. flatten the city the best can you knowing that maybe greatest danger is beneath the surface. >> yeah. i mean, the tunnels are particularly nasty for attacking force. a g.p.s., cell phones don't work underground. so it's easy to get disoriented. radios don't work very well when you turn a corner so communication is a problem. breathing can be a problem especially if you have to try any kind of breaching down there. this is not thinking about an enemy trying to kill with you booby traps or shooting aimlessly around the corner.

concrete walls act like funnel ricochet bullets attacking force. why israeli wasn't going to send people down there as a last resort. use drones to scout out a tunnel first. >> brian: talk about this thing called purple smoke that essentially put it in purple hair, they will put it into the tunnel and see where the smoke comes up. to see where it could connect. and how far it might go. and they also talk about using sponge bombs that kind of fill up the tunnel. just a way to avoid that one-on-one moment that hamas wants that the israeli forces don't. yeah, without auto doubt. i mean i have seen videos right, give you an example a bomb that can hit a tunnel and you don't know where it's coming out and overpressure can take down a building two blocks away because that's where the tunnel exit goes. that's why i want to put the foam or smoke or something down there to really understand what is the physics of it tunnel where does it examiner and exit

what could be some of that collateral damage you might want to avoid. >> brian: you don't want innocent people hurt. that's not the objective of the idf where it was with hamas. people don't seem to point that out. however, when they shut down the power, and shut down the fuel, it hurts hamas, and it hurts the people. evidently we are saying for humanitarian purposes put everything back on. but when you put everything back on, that allows hamas to be able to communicate. how do you split the difference? this is a normal challenge in terms of. displace out of the conflict zone. that's where you are trying to shut off power keep the fuel going. minimize that so can you get the civilians down on the south. hamas is trying to use them as human shields. doesn't want them to displace. that makes it a challenge for the israelis as they are trying to conduct this really challenging ground attack. >> brian: so, colonel, they are saying this is not the fog of war. this is the smoke screen of war.

it's pretty clear they do not want to tell us what they're doing. they don't want this to be d-day, we are coming in. >> yeah. part of what -- the smoke and obscure the movement for the israelis. right? they want to have that to their advantage. they want to be able to move at night. use that in an urban environment it's such a challenge it. takes away technological add advantage tages that they have or advanced have. attacker move underground. hide in those buildings so the israelis have got to move slowly as you said, right? this is a very slow movement, deliberate movement as you try to go in there and oftentimes you don't want to enter a structure that has a hamas fighter and do room-to-room battle. you want to eliminate that threat without going in there and putting your soldiers at risk. this is why it's so destructive. >> if you saw the threat that turkey is going to fight for -- on behalf hamas that iran says you crossed a red line and hezbollah continues to rocket
