americans are now mourning the sudden death of "friends" star matthew perry after an a parent drowning in his hot tub this weekend. the actor was spotted enjoying dinner with friends only a week prior. also posted a photo on instagram relaxing in his hot tub five days before his death. fans are rightly kind of finding a bit weary. the la county medical examiner's office performed an topsy and arbery awaiting the toxicology report. his death is currently listed as deferred.

we have dr. marc siegel, dr. nicole safire. good to see you both. dr. safire, i really don't know if people are sober can die in a hot tub. i guess it can happen. i don't know. i'm not a big hot tub person. i do like master spas. i've been in them. he's had these addiction issues. according to reports he spent $9 million on rehab centers, over a dozen trips to rehab places. what do you suspect happened here? how do you die in a hot tub if it's not something else involved? >> will certainly matthew perry has been very open. he spent about three decades of his life addicted to opioids and alcohol. it's been about one year since his book release talking about his drug addiction and the fact that he has been sober for a few years. he has come off of that high of that book tour and it is

possible that he slipped into feelings of loneliness and depression. it's certainly possible that when his sobriety started taking drugs again he said himself in the memoir i am capable of sobriety unless something happens. we don't know. right now they already did the autopsy and are deferring the results of that until the toxicology report comes in. to be honest, you can actually die in a hot tub not from drug overdose. ibc with history that's the first thing people think of. but cardiovascular disease, heart attacks, pulmonary embolism, all things can cause sudden deaths. three decades of drug use and alcohol use does predispose someone to cardiovascular disease and also sitting in a hot tub can make the heart work harder. there are some medical reasons aside from drug use that could potentially lead to sudden death in the hot tub. he was posting some cryptic messages on social media in the last couple weeks that certainly has people skeptical as to what

was going on in his emotional and mental state. seam ekiyor take, dr. siegel? >> i agree with what she says. that was very comprehensive. the top person i spoke to today said drugs have to be on the list. there were prescription drugs in the house. one was a sedative. he could have taken the sedative and taken too much and gone unconscious and slipped into the water and then drowned. but the other issue is he is a big smoker, sean burke he is playing pickle ball at a high tilts. he's a former jr. tennis player in canada and is used to a lot of exertion. but he has a lot of medical problems for key burst is:and had the opioid problem. the combination of weight shifts, alcohol and smoking could have predisposed him to a cardiac arrest. they are doing the toxicology report because they think or need to rule out that drugs may have played a roll. to nicole's point he's been vocal about that. i think matthew perry would want
