continuing breaking news coverage of the war in israel on america's late news "fox news @ night". our war coverage begins in moments. there is also breaking news in the death of matthew perry. the cast members of "friends" have issued their first statement on perry's death. we will have that for you. new information about matthew perry's autopsy and questions about his release. we will have dr. joining us for the latest on that. meantime, a live look at gaza sunrise which happens in 56 minutes. israeli prime minister and german netanyahu shows no signs of letting up on hamas, rejecting calls outright for a cease-fire as israeli forces pushed deeper into gaza attacking areas north and east of the main city as they fight to control a major highway in gaza. there are battles underway. alex hogan is live in tel aviv with the latest on what is happening on the ground. alex? >> reporter: trace, the white

also all the security forces in the military is that the ground action actually creates the possibility, not the certainty, but the possibility of getting our hostages out. >> he brings up a debatable point because a lot of families wanted them to wait on this ground incursion, the ground operation, not yet a ground war. he thinks may be going in with idf is the best way to get the hostages out. what do you think? >> right now hamas is holding hostages as basically a form of currency. they will not give it up. there has been talk about doing a trade for all of the hostages for the 6000 palestinians held in custody. that will not work. a lot of those palestinians will go back and fight for hamas. the best scenario quite frankly is if there is any kind of cease-fire it should be for hamas to say if you're going to surrender and give up hostages and weapons and. that will be the way if the hostages will get out of there. either by force or hamas giving

them up. >> hamas also released video of three hostages. we are not showing the video addressing an angry message to benjamin netanyahu. it appears that israel is calling this old-school propaganda. what do you make of the release of this video? >> thank you for having me. you are absolutely right. we see a lot of coercion tactics and profound techniques to manipulate people into saying a variety of different things. it's difficult to ascertain clearly how accurate and truthful these hostages are presenting themselves. we have to recognize they are in a nearly catastrophic scenario if they say something wrong or don't play the game they are being lured on or if they are given special treatment and don't respond properly. they will be retaliated against. it is challenging for us to take the statements presented in some of these videos accurately. >> i think it's pretty clear that the idf is expanding its ground operation. not yet calling it a groundwork. where careful of that because
8:08 pm
it's a ground incursion and it gets bigger and bigger. listen, this is not the storm of normandy park it's not all at wants proposition. they have to build up and ready the battlefield. and so forth. there are hundreds of israeli casualties and heavy fighting. this thing looks to be getting better. fair assessment? >> absolutely. hamas is setting up beachheads within gaza and hopefully they will come to the sea. what will happen is the small forces are essentially holding territory. they've gone in and taken out hamas terrorists and other minefields and then the larger force will pass through these beachheads. then you will see them enter into urban territory where the real dangerous and deadly combat will begin. they are taking a little bit more of a methodical approach. hopefully they come in from both land borders to hook up and isolate hamas. >> you are saying come pictures of gaza. i want to put this map up.

this is the attacks on u.s. forces. there are 24 of these attacks. mostly all in iraq and syria. is another response coming from the united states and should it? >> ultimately what we have to do is show with strength and deterrence so that attacks such as these are not something to be pursued by other groups. it's a difficult balance to strike. on one hand that is not our conflict. it's the israelis conflict to mitigate with the region. on the other hand we are here to show robust military support. what we've seen in the previous administration was a stronger tone and rhetoric so that our enemies if they were considering engaging u.s. forces they understood that the reprisal for such an action would be swift and ruthless. my concern now is that many in military leadership as well as the resolve of the current administration does not project that same degree of seriousness. ultimately we are putting american troops potentially at greater risk. >> a lot of people share that
8:10 pm
concern. thank you both. the level of anti-semitism on u.s. college campuses comes as a shock to many. but perhaps more surprising is how college administrators have responded. film allusion is live with the threats as well as the response. >> reporter: blatant anti-semitism continues to rear its ugly head every single day. we are not just talking students. now we have a group of professors at columbia university who are backing up students who they say support hamas. more than 100 columbia professor signed a letter today defending students who support what they call hamas military action in israel on october 7th rather then terrorist attacks which is what it should be called dark the professors called on school administrators to protect those students from, quote, "disturbing verb nations on campus. jewish students on campus tell fox news they are not doing enough to fight anti-semitism and they feel unsafe on campus. >> my jewish sisters and brothers and i are on the

phone about how people want to kill me and want to bomb my home and our home as a jewish community. it is terrifying. >> i just came back from israel. i am stunned by the amount of shock and hate. not even shocked. i am stunned by the amount of hate and fear on college campuses in the united states. >> i do not happen to be a jewish mother. i'm a christian mother. but i am terrified about what i have been seeing on social media. that was the first time i ever saw that sound that you played and tears here's phil.my i's. this is very serious. i am not shocked, though. i am not shocked because this is what we have been shouting about and warning about for years at prager you. marxism has infiltrated our colleges. it has infiltrated our high schools and now our elementary schools. the past few decades has resulted in students defending
8:14 pm
violence against all facts, defending terrorist organizations like hamas on campus. this is the result of our failed and hijacked education system. >> i want to play some sound from pro- palestinian protesters. look. >> you can shut down a chapter but not us as individuals. >> young people do not support the genocide in palestine and do not support the occupation of palestine. >> do they realize when they are saying river to the sea they are calling for the extermination of israelis? >> some do and some don't. it's an education system that is now breeding ignorance. unfortunately we have been warning about this since 2009 that we are seeing increased radicalization. consider that most students don't even know the basic facts of the holocaust. only 13% can identify aspects of
8:15 pm
american history including world war ii. now you have school boards talking about doing away with proficiency standards when it comes to reading, writing and math to get a high school diploma which will not work well. it makes it easy to radicalize on college campuses. these students are calling for a second holocaust and we need to reassess the education system and bring it back to the sense of nationhood that it was built upon. >> i want to get you both on this. do we have this harvard poll to put up on the screen? this shocked me. this is the harvard harris poll. we do not have it. but it showed that 52% are in favor of israel and 48% are not. there it is. finally. 48%. with the margin of error this is a dead heat. this is a 5050 proposition. >> it is evidence of how severely our students and young learners have been brainwashed again against all facts and all
8:16 pm
reason. they have been brainwashed through 1st defending violence with blm protest. it's one little group that feels as though they are oppressed and violence is absolutely okay. it is not okay. our children have been brainwashed to feel that way. what we are seeing on college campuses is a result of that. >> nicholas, the same people that say words are violence are literally in favor of exterminating, eradicating the jewish population. final thoughts. >> this is a result of the anti-semitism and anti- western civilization we have seen in our culture being pushed in the education system. we have to get back to the assimilation process. assimilation is what is essential. >> nicholas jordano and jill good to have you on. former president trump is still way up in the polls for the 2020202024 presidential race. there is a brand-new battle

underway for second place. the senior national correspondent kevin corke is live in d.c. with who is gaining ground and giving ground. >> a brand-new iowa poll shows 43% of likely republican caucus goers back former president donald trump. that is up a point from august. proof that no matter how many court cuts political opponents try to/in with he remains resilient and very popular among the gop base. however in a bit of a surprise former un ambassador and south carolina governor nikki haley has moved into a tie for second. a distant second. haley and florida governor ron desantis are neck and neck at 16% according to that survey. that's a 10-point jump for haley who was at 6% back in august. it's a three-point slide for desantis who is at 19 just a couple months ago. a haley campaign spokesperson tells "fox news tonight" that it

is, quote, "time to start talking about a two-person race. one man and one woman. we will see. in fact, haley is not just second in iowa, she is also second in new hampshire and in south carolina according to the latest surveys. again, quite a bit of distance from the former president. >> i have always been the underdog. i enjoy that. it's what makes me scrappy. but no one is going to outwork me in this race. no one is going to outsmart me in this race. >> still a long way to go before it's time to vote. i should add this. adding to the potential uncertainty of the coming iowa caucuses, this is a fascinating number. a majority of likely caucus voters, 54%, say they could still be persuaded to change their first choice picks. but right now it is former president by a longshot. >> kevin corke, we will get back to in moments. let's bring in spencer brown.

and former chief of staff to congressman ken buck. welcome to you both. i want to put this back up. the pole, just so everybody is clear on who is leading and who is not. this is the des moines register nbc poll. the former president at 43%. desantis and nikki haley 16%. even if it was just trump versus desantis or trump versus haley, spencer, you have very little chance with two and a half months to the iowa caucuses of overtaking the former president. >> that is sort of a political lifetime. that much time is a lot. so is the former president's lead. even though 54% of people might be able to convince that their first choice is not actually their first choice, there is a lot of work to be done. other republicans have been chasing this momentum. fewer have done that and have dropped out. nikki haley is showing the ability to build momentum. i'm sure her team is looking to
8:20 pm
capitalize on that in the third debate next week and continue to do it because she has a lot of ground to make up if she is going to seriously challenge trump. >> speaking of nikki haley, someone will finish second in iowa. they say in the olympics silver may be silver but it is still second but could easily give that individual momentum to attract republicans who are not sold on a third trump nomination and are looking for a candidate to consolidate the field. what do you think about that? >> listen, i think this has become a never trumper dream. it is deranged. number one president trump is up 50 points nationally and up 27 and iowa and 30 and south carolina and 30 in nevada. this raisi is running away with. mike pence just dropped out of the race. look at this year from now. the autopsy autopsy of every single republican candidate who challenged president trump. they thought there is a way to beat him but there isn't.

he has become invincible. even with four indictments he has gone up in the polls and it hasn't hurt him in the general election. a bloomberg pole came out last week. he is up four points on joe biden in nevada, michigan and ohio. these are key states to winning back the white house. nikki haley is competing and down 27 points. president trump is running away with this. >> this is the vivek ramaswamy. he said this about israel minding its own business. watch. >> my message is clear. give an ultimatum to iran. you stay out and we stay out. i am looking after making sure that our americans are brought out of harm's way. >> i have about 15 seconds for each of you. he got booed a little bit speaking to some jewish republicans. >> he is definitely differentiating himself from other republican candidates. i don't think in a way that republicans were hoping to see. it will end up being one of those things that nikki haley
8:22 pm
wants to take him to task on the debate stage. >> your final thoughts? >> real quick. i think the comments by vivek ramaswamy doesn't understand foreign policy. a mosses an evil terrorist group. the u.s. has cysts today with israel. going forward in 2024 there is no greater person than president trump. the most president we have had. that will show going into 2024. >> they do like him. coming up the latest developments in israel's war on hamas. and one of america's favorite friends died over the weekend. the others have issued a first statement. there are new questions about matthew perry's autopsy and who might be facing liability. we will have that coming up next. ubrelvy is another option, it quickly eliminates migraine pain. do not take with strong cyp3a4 inhibitors. allergic reactions to ubrelvy can happen.

the start of the long-running tv show "friends" matthew perry past away at age 54. research scientists joins us as we look at the cause of death. criminal defense attorney explains why the autopsy is deferred along with some legal questions. but first how matthew perry is being remembered tonight by his former costars. >> the cast of "friends" broke their silence over perry's death today. telling people magazine they are devastated. he was family and they will have more to say after they are finished grieving. pair he was found dead under water at his hot tub in his la home saturday afternoon. he was 54 years old. authorities have done an off's but hasn't released anything. they did rule out foul play. we are still waiting for the toxicology report. they found prescription pills and the cause of his death right now is listed as deferred.
8:29 pm
the show perry started on, "friends" was a cultural phenomenon. 10 seasons from the mid-90s from 2000. 25 million viewers per episode. in an interview last year he said he would want to be remembered for his ability to help people with drinking problems. >> when i die, i don't want "friends" to be the first thing mentioned. i want that to be the first things mentioned. i will live the rest of my life proving that. >> in his private life he admitted spending $9 million to try to get clean. briefly getting sober back in 2001, the year he was nominated for an and me. he said he relapsed 60 to 70 times with an addiction to vodka and painkillers. at one time telling diane sawyer he took 55 vicodin pills a day. it's a struggle he says he later helped others overcome. >> that's amazing. standby if you would. it's amazing because the former

president of the national association association up medical examiners wrote the following here quoting hot tub drownings are usually associated with an underlying heart or neurological condition or alcohol and/or medications, drugs. they didn't find any illegal drugs on the premises, doctor, but they did find a list of prescription drugs. what do you make of that? >> it could be anything at this point. when someone is in the hot tub they cannot sweat. the water is hot. body temperature rises. when it rises so much and you are unable to do anything about it, the blood moves to the outside skin. when the blood moves away from the core of the body the heart has to start raising. if someone has an underlying heart issue as someone on drugs for their life might have had, their heart could stop catching up with all of its demands. ultimately the organs give out. that is one possibility. or if he was intoxicated with other some type of drug whether it was illegal or anything else.
8:31 pm
>> fair point. the autopsy is finished and i have been asked this 19 times. it is being deferred. usually you get pending. why the deferred? is this a legal thing? >> it is a legal thing. we can predict four to six months from the date he passes is when we have toxicology results. in this case there is obviously a suspicion of serious narcotics and/or alcohol being used. as the good doctor just mentioned it is rare to pass away in the tub. this is why it's important to have the medical examiner get the toxicology results. what does that mean? that means getting tissue and blood samples and sending them off to get the results analyzed by a lab. so that people don't run into conclusions and jump to conclusions. we've had serious deaths caused by police officers and others where there is indictments and criminal charges within three days. we need at least four to six
8:32 pm
months to get toxicology results. >> who is investigating this case locally? >> the best of the best of the lapd. that is the division they put on the high profile cases. the best of the best when it comes to detectives. >> people with a history of rapid weight gain and rapid weight loss, it seems they have bad health outcomes as they get older. >> they generally will. if he had underlying cardiovascular disease or blockage of a coronary artery in his heart, i am speculating, obviously. that is something you can't tell just by looking. that requires a lot of microscopic analysis of organs. that will take a full autopsy. something they haven't had time to do yet. >> there were no illegal drugs found in the house. there were prescription drugs found. if he was prescribed something by a doctor that ended up causing him to drown, with the medical professional be liable for that? >> absolutely there would be an
8:33 pm
investigation. where the liability would rest would hinge upon what the answer to the following question is. was it over prescribed in the world of xanax which are benzodiazepines which can cause fatality during withdrawal? or opiates. there is now significant dea investigations to look at the prescription history of prescription fraud or potential for over prescription. there could be liability. is too early to tell. >> thank you all. up next we will check in with luke lists tomlinson on the ground in israel as breaking news continues. plus the mainstream media showed glaring bias in the way it covered the bombing of a gaza hospital. the media appears to not have learned any lessons. we will show you examples of that, next.

expand ground operations in gaza. when it comes to calls for a cease-fire the israeli prime minister says no. lucas tomlinson is live in tel aviv with the latest. >> reporter: last night israel's prime minister celebrating the rescue of one soldier who had been held hostage by hamas. as you mentioned he rejected calls for a cease-fire. >> just as the united states would not agree to a cease-fire after the bombing of pearl harbor or after the terrorist attacks of 9/11, israel will not agree to a cessation with hamas after the horrific attacks of october seventh. the bible says there is a time for peace and a time for war. this is a time for war. >> reporter: israeli soldier rescued rescue tonight by israeli special forces was captured during the october 7th massacre outside gaza. she has been reunited with her family after a medical examination deemed are healthy.

this is proof of our ability to reach the hostages. israeli forces have now spent the past four nights inside gaza and have pushed more than 2 miles deep. some tanks and other mechanized forces were spotted south of gaza city yesterday. the idf says 55 senior hamas leaders have been killed in operations in gaza since the massacre by israeli forces. we spoke to one of israel's top tech moguls and a former infantry whose daughter of palo alto, california and boyfriend were tragically killed at the music festival massacre on october 7th. her father says gaza should be leveled and there should be no deals to release any of the remaining hostages. >> i hope our forces will go in and find all of the hostages and bring them back with no negotiation. anyone in gaza now is associated with hamas. we will take gaza down. gaza will not be the same. >> reporter: there are now 238
8:41 pm
hostages remaining inside gaza this morning and those include up to 10 american citizens. >> lucas tomlinson live in tel aviv. thank you. israeli defense forces are attacking gaza from several directions. watch this. >> we are operating against hamas on all dimensions simultaneously fighting on the ground, in the air. we are using all of the assets that we have available in israel in order to collect information about the hostages and to understand where they are and eventually to bring them home. >> reporter: jonathan hunt is live in jerusalem. it may not be a full-scale ground force yet but the ground operation is clearly expanding. >> and it will continue to expand, trace. the idea is not giving us very many specifics with good reasons obviously. what we have been able to glean from the movements we have seen as you take a look at a map of
8:42 pm
gaza is that the mechanized work is that lucas mentioned are coming down the coastal strip of gaza to that side of gaza city. then we are seeing more movement from that northern border. that is far more difficult. on the coastal side they are going down a beach. not a lot of opposition. but when you come in from the northeast which i have crossed that border many times you quickly get into a town, a refugee camp which is densely packed areas. that's where the urban combat we talked about so much will come in. we are seeing troops we believe coming in from the south and east of gaza city. it appears they are trying to essentially surround gaza city. that is the easier part if there is any easier part. then they have to go in and find the hamas fighters above and below ground. that is where it gets difficult. that is where there will be israeli casualties. that's where the prime minister is preparing israel for a long
8:43 pm
and difficult war as he puts it. >> meantime and anti-semitic russian mob just stormed a russian airport looking for jewish passengers. here's the u.s. state department and what they had to say. >> we call on russian authorities to publicly condemn these violent protests, to hold anyone involved accountable and to ensure the safety of israelis and jews in russia. >> do we know what happened, jonathan? >> it was quite simply a mob rating the airport trying to get to what they believe were jewish passengers on board a flight from tel aviv. what is interesting is the deafening silence from the russian government in terms of condemning the anti-semitic actions and slogans that were being chanted by that crowd. of course, there is no one perhaps happier in the world to see the world's focus on the war in the middle east. while we watch what is
8:44 pm
happening, what is unfolding here in the middle east, we are paying much less attention to what is happening in eastern europe and vladimir putin's murderous war against ukraine. he is very happy for us to keep the focus on the middle east and not what he is doing in eastern europe. run and cover for vladimir putin. thank you jonathan. let's take a look at how the media is covering the conflict with the founder of the last people forget, a digital holocaust museum. this is for me. the headline reads as follows. associated press slammed for headline calling anti-semitic lynch mob in russia an anti- israel protest. what are your thoughts on this? >> i will be honest, trace. as the daughter of immigrants from the former soviet union i think this headline is extremely laughable. that's the only way to describe it. it takes a 15 minute history
8:45 pm
lesson or google search to understand russia and the specific region and understand the history. thousands of years of jewish people. this was simple. it was not a protest. it was an angry mob looking for jews to harm. the fact that we are act this point where i have to wonder to myself, which is so ridiculous, if the people putting up these headlines are trying to shield the world for some reason of the anti-semitism that exists. or if they believe that if a plane landed from tel aviv and people decided that was a good time to storm an airport screaming where are the jews in an effort to do that for the government. >> here is the cover photo of the spanish huffington post. i want to put this up. they right at the same time, as soon as a reader opens the spanish huff post article they are met with an image likening nazis to israel and holocaust victims to gazans. the same people who want another holocaust against jews.
8:46 pm
they pulled this down, elizabeth. the huff post pulled this down. somebody knew this was horrifying to put up. >> i am glad someone figured that out. like you said i run a digital holocaust museum. i am sorting through materials and images from the holocaust weakly. i find any comparison to nazi germany disgusting. usually it proves that people have no idea what it is there talking about are they seriously diminish the atrocities we saw during world war ii. both of which were horrific. what we saw coming out of israel, you know as well as i do, the photos, stories and videos have been beyond traumatizing. unfortunately thanks to hamas we have a comparison to the holocaust. that is october 7th, 2023. spent this is an nbc reporter today on today. watch. >> each new palestinian death carries a risk of emboldening israel's enemies, isolating its friends and inflaming old
