it matters because the balance of power in congress is so tight that those four seats could make all the difference. >> bill: so it was a big night last night for democrats in certain states like kentucky, beshear held on. he has been a popular governor. some approval ratings have him as high as 60%. >> dana: a young man. >> bill: he ran up the numbers higher this time around than he did four years ago when he won. abortion passed in ohio. that will be in the state's constitution. in virginia you have to think it's going to be very interesting to watch how glenn youngkin governs over the next two years. he has talked at great length about education in virginia and flipping the senate and it didn't happen. >> dana: he came up short. great to be with you today. harris faulkner will take you through the next hour. here she is. >> harris: we're watching a professor on capitol hill right now tackle the rise in
8:01 am
anti-semitism that's happening on college campuses across america. in fact we've heard from already. students, former student who spoke eloquently who just graduated. the house judiciary committee is holding this hearing on free speech on college campuses with college students and professors. the hearing is also looking at that anti-semitism and anti-israel sentiment and violence toward jewish students and those who support those jewish students and those who support israel and its war on blood-thirsty hostage-taking terrorists in gaza, hamas. we're watching all of this and monitor it. there have been some heated moments. you can see one of the protestors has gaza taped across her mouth. a couple of them do. but as this makes news, we'll go back. let's go forward now. president biden is practically begging israel to take a three-day pause in fighting
8:02 am
hostage-taking terrorists. biden urged israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu to take a break in fighting against hamas terrorists to release 10 to 15 hostages and use that pause to verify the identities of every hostage. netanyahu reportedly does not trust hamas to hold up to their end of such a deal. well, yeah, hamas decapitates children. i'm harris faulkner and you are in "the faulkner focus." the white house is down playing any friction in the relationship between the united states and israel. >> can you characterize the closeness of the relationship right now? >> it's extremely close now. we're friends and friends don't have to agree on every single nuance and word. these are two men that have known each other a long time and i don't think it's any shock to anybody that on a political spectrum they aren't always in the same place on every issue.
8:03 am
>> harris: he is talking about president biden and prime minister netanyahu who said this, by the way. >> the fighting in the south is advancing at the might that hamas hasn't known. gaza is encircled and we are operating in it and keeping the pressure on hamas every day. so far we have killed thousands of terrorists above the ground and under the ground. >> harris: israel's defense minister said idf forces are tightening the noose, his words, around gaza city. that push signals israel's plans now to control gaza's security after the war. something that netanyahu says is unavoidable. house foreign affairs chairman michael mccaul. we begin with fox news war correspondent trey yengst in israel. trey. >> good morning. the challenge for the israeli military right now is they have gaza city surrounded but there
8:04 am
are still thousands of palestinian civilians amid the battlefield. they have opened up a new humanitarian corridor to get some civilians souths. the medical facilities are collapsing despite the fact aid in flowing to the strip. take a look. >> hospitals in gaza like this one are overflowing with patients damaged by air strikes and limited in supplies. some are on the brink of collapse. we're experiencing a medical disaster. all the medical supplies have run out and medicine for cancer patients has run out. the hospital's director explains we are heading towards the catastrophe. the israeli military says 665 aid trucks have entered gaza since the war began over a month ago. on those trucks was food, water, medical equipment. what do the managers of the hospitals say they need? we've been talking to medical facilities saying they're running out of supplies to treat
8:05 am
wounded patients? >> i think that they are also in a very difficult situation because they are trapped between this situation and hamas. i know that hamas took over on their fuel supply. i know that hamas runs basically the way that they are getting the medical supplies. >> the united nations that coordination with israel and aid to deliveries. the aid is not enough to support the more than 2 million palestinians living there. israelis point to hamas taking resources in the past that were meant for the gazan people and despite the situation, there is no humanitarian crisis in gaza. >> we know and i can say for sure there is no humanitarian crisis in gaza. >> i would push back on that. you would say there is no humanitarian crisis in gaza? >> i am saying once again there is no humanitarian crisis in
8:06 am
gaza. i know the situation is not easy but we are in a war. we didn't pick -- choose to enter this war. >> there is a humanitarian crisis inside gaza. the challenge though is the fact that the 2 million palestinian civilians living there are ruled by hamas, a group now fighting a war against israel from civilian areas. >> harris: thank you very much. republican congressman michael mccaul from texas, foreign affairs committee chairman and on the homeland security committee. the perfect person to have as my first guest. welcome in "focus." first of all, we have stayed in places after wars and when you hear prime minister benjamin netanyahu talking about the unavoidability of giving security to the people in gaza, what is your reaction? >> well, i think what their plan
8:07 am
is to not occupy it. they'll learn from our mistakes in afghanistan not occupy gaza. as you talked about they want to encircle gaza city, eventually suffocate out hamas out of the tunnels, and then eliminate the threat. they are currently building a blockade from northern to southern gaza which is turning into a humanitarian zone and now we're seeing about 100 trucks per day go through the rafah gate from egypt to israel right now. but a pause is -- i think i would say let's give them a pause once they release the hostages. a candlelight vigil on the capitol steps. we met with the families whose children are in these awful places in the tunnels. that would be a good start. get something out of a pause not give them a pause for nothing. >> harris: these words are so chilling coming from the brother
8:08 am
of a man taken hostage by hamas terrorists. listen to this. they are a warning to all of us. >> this is a wake-up call not only for israel, not only for the jewish community, this is a wake-up call for will of you here, all of america, all of europe. you are next. >> harris: your reaction. >> we've seen threats from overseas hit us here at home. 9/11 is a good example of that. when i chaired homeland security committee how many special interest aliens got in. how many on the terror watch list got in. inspired attacks over the internet which is what director wray talked about coming from hamas, his biggest concern. harris, how many of the 200 on the terror watch list are from the middle east or are hamas? we don't know the answer to that question. that is very dangerous as a
8:09 am
national security expert. >> harris: did you see senators ask mayokas, the homeland security secretary, where the 169 are or any of those that have come across the border since that number was given to us a couple of months ago? people on the terror watch list? he couldn't answer that question. >> he couldn't answer that question. how could you be secretary in charge of defending the homeland and not know where 200 suspected terrorists are in our country. it is mind blows hand shows you how dangerous the foreign policy but the border policy as well. all this ties together. the threats from overseas and then that last line of defense on the border which is why we need to have border security along with the other threats that we see coming from russia, china, iran, north korea.
8:10 am
>> harris: it disqualifies him and surprised he is sitting in that. he makes the president looks worse by sitting there and biden has a bad enough reputation with an open border. he doesn't need help not knowing where the 169 and now 200 as you just pointed out. we have had more people come over who are on the terror watch list. all right, let's -- >> he knows better. i know him. he is a u.s. attorney. >> harris: he knows better. >> he knows better. that's what's so awful about it. >> harris: he lost track of 85,000 migrant children in the last year and a half. disqualification for the job for the post. all right. here is an editorial board asking why isn't biden demanding hamas release american hostages? former national security advisor john bolton is warning israel is running out of time before biden damns it to defeat. blinken's trip demonstrates the
8:11 am
dangerous misconceptions underlying the middle east policy and shows how rapidly biden's superficially strong support for israel is eroding. the idf are racing against time before biden wilts under domestic and international pressure and enemies -- >> john bolton and i often agree. i agree with him in this case as well. instead of helping israel eliminate the threat, they are calling for a humanitarian pause. can you imagine after pearl harbor or say 9/11 we had another country telling us we had to take a little bit of a pause before we took out the enemy? i think look, we'll take a pause if they'll release the hostages. john bolton is right. president of the united states has never called for their release. you know, the members of congress did bipartisan just yesterday in passing a
8:12 am
unanimously passing a resolution and stood in front of the capitol steps talking about that with the families and candles in hand. they need to come home or we'll eliminate hamas. that's the choice right there. >> harris: so you say we will eliminate hamas. would we commit to helping israel do that even more than we already have with munitions and money at this point? >> no. >> harris: i thought it was not a hair on an american's head. now more than 30 dead that we know of at the hands of hamas but also our military bases are getting hit. the number of men and women in peril has gone up to 40 attacks against military bases. men and women in the military in the region. american contractor also killed in those attacks. >> correct. this is all coming from iran. their fingerprints are all over it. the proxies of iran, hamas, hezbollah and iran-backed
8:13 am
militias in iraq and syria. you have the carrier strike forces in the mediterranean, persian gulf and nuclear submarine. they waited eight days after the strikes had happened. when i say we, we help them to respond to hamas. honestly the administration doesn't have authority from congress to go after hamas directly or hezbollah without an authorization of use of military force from my committee, the foreign affairs committee on capitol hill. >> harris: is that coming? >> we are looking at it in the event it's necessary. god, let's hope we'll never have to pass that. >> harris: yeah. it could just be retaliation for hurting our military men and women. you are talking about a level up going to war. chairman mccaul, thank you for being in "focus." appreciate it. >> thanks for having me. >> harris: the white house is simply blowing off president biden's awful poll numbers.

>> harris: we have breaking news now, ivanka trump is testifying in new york city and her testimony will follow her dad's as well as his adult sons eric and donald, junior.
8:20 am
they testified this week. trump is accused falsely inflating assets to get better deals on loans and insurance policies. he argues there are no victims. everybody got paid off. i haven't had a legal expert say it isn't true. if ivanka trump speaks at the microphones or breaking developments inside the courtroom we'll bring you that immediately. democrats scored victories last night notably without president biden or former president trump on the ballot. many races defined heavily by the issue of abortion, which drove democratic voters dramatically to the polls. big numbers. virginia state house will be fully under democrat control now. remember, the governor there glenn youngkin was saying he wanted that not to happen. he wanted to flip the whole house was up for grabs. he wanted one side to flip.
8:21 am
the whole senate up for grabs. none of that happened. that will prevent state republicans from passing new abortion restrictions and again youngkin and republicans had hoped the state house to flip the state senate. governor youngkin had projected razor thin margins that that republicans would win. >> these races will be decided by hundreds of votes in large turnout. even going into next year i expect the exact same issues will be so important to virginians and americans because this is what impacts everybody's daily life. >> harris: in kentucky andy beshear won re-election. in ads he painted his challenger as extremist on abortion. again that toying. the gop saw bright spots. republican reeves held onto the governor spot in mississippi avoiding an upset from democratic hopeful brandon presley, a second cousin to

elvis presley and republican's painted new york's long island completely red with the party candidate getting a landslide victory, the top elected office. garrett tenney has more on how abortion energized democrats. not a shocker but held them together last night. garrett. >> notably in ohio abortion not only energized democrats, it also energized independents. if that is what happens in 2024 it could a problem for the gop especially in swing states. apologies for the voice. voters in the buckeye state overwhelmingly supported adding aboring rights to the state's constitution guaranteeing a woman has access to abortion up to the point of fetal viability determined by their physician. what's notable in the exit polls is that while the vote largely fell along party lines, 64% of self-identified independents supported the measure and in
8:23 am
swing states in tight races we know the independent votes can be the deciding factor. democrats are celebrating this as a big win going into 2024 when abortion is again expected to be an issue in races across the country. coming into yesterday's election pro-life groups argued that campaigns against abortion -- campaigning against abortion rights would be a winning strategy in next year's election. >> we know the winning recipe for push can candidates when you run on the issue and clear about the limits you support, when you are willing to go and expose the extremism of the democrats and their stance for abortion in all nine months. that's how you win. >> that strategy may come into question after yesterday's election results. >> harris: take care of your voice, thank you so much. it was a late night. more on those results and what they could tell us about 2024. lee carter veteran polling expert and president of a

polling company. i have trump sound bites waiting in the wind. the president said in the last 7 or 8 weeks that roe v. wade reversal republicans are speaking inarticulately about it and he said it's pursued the republican terrible state level restrictions that could alienate much of the country. the desantis ban in florida was a terrible mistake. is it playing out? >> absolutely. we looked at the mid-term elections last year and said we saw a red ripple. that was because of abortion. when you talk to women voters, really important. women female voters are very much what's making the decisions here. nine in ten democrats say the primary reason to go to the polls is abortion. seven in ten independent women say it's a primary reason they will vote in these elections. when that happens, they turn out. other people stay home.
8:25 am
we're seeing even if it's not that popular it is driving the polls. republicans are failing to deliver a message that is compelling or to deliver policy that appeals to people. if you ban or boycott you are losing. it's antithetical to what americans want. >> harris: this isn't about biden or trump. people will vote democrat on this one issue. we've known it since june. this is not a surprise and if fact that republicans couldn't get on similar messaging across the country is a surprise. they have had quite some time to know that this was coming. >> it is a big surprise. you look at youngkin. the message out there banning abortion over and over again. only in the last week he tried to defend himself and change that word. it was a big mistake. republicans have to get this right. the only one outside of donald trump talking about this is nikki haley. we don't have the votes without

"politico" with two ideas on what this all signals for democrats and joe biden in 2024. on one hand they say it's time for dems to chill out. polls are one thing. actual votes are another. these are not election returns consistent with a president whose approval numbers are struggling. on the other hand they write time to freak out. the polls are absolutely right. the problem isn't the democratic brand it is joe biden. you say what? >> i say they're right on both counts. look, a year is a long time. anything and everything could happen. i don't think joe biden will be more appealing one year from today than he is from today. >> harris: will he be better? >> he can't overcome the challenges. at the same time republicans shouldn't be taking a victory
8:27 am
lap. the only people who have worse polling numbers than joe biden are republicans right now. not donald trump. i'm talking about republicans in congress are widely unpopular. they seem out of touch. one being abortion. not seen as pro-women and don't seem to have a plan to address issues. a lot of people say republicans do bert on the economy. what are republicans going to deliver on the economy. they haven't made the case. they made the case how bad things are not how good it will be on the other side. >> harris: you said seven out of ten women voters care about the subject of abortion. that's more than the economy, no? >> well, the primary issue thaws than day-to-day people are saying is the economy. seven in ten say the number one thing driving them to the polls is protect women's rights and abortion. a holistic view of women rather than looking at abortion. they are voting saying i need to
8:28 am
protect my right as a woman to be in charge of my decisions. >> harris: glenn youngkin figured out the word ban was problematic. he only had days to turn it around and trying to have a red senate and house and didn't get it. >> we've seen it in abortion or any other issues. bans and boycotts are negative in this country. >> harris: the biden white house dismissing the president's poll numbers and finger pointing going on. pointing at the media and all the coverage saying it's our fault. biden's re-election campaign sent a memo to news outlets. despite the hair on fire sky is falling tone we've seen from media coverage over the last few days, political predictions more than a year out the end to look different a year later, end quote. press secretary karine jean-pierre and the vice president carrying the same message. >> we should take polling with a grain of salt. a year ago back in 2022 there
8:29 am
