8:22 am
people peel off. he's so far ahead in the national polls and his base is so, so solid, it really going to be hard to break that. neil: this happens the same week, we got news of colorado trying to take, you know, donald trump off its presidential ballot next year. now, that's being fought and might go all the way to the supreme court and other states entertaining that. bill barr was on the show a while ago, the former attorney general, weighing in on that. >> the court has to smack this down quickly. i think the legal argument here for it is ridiculous and i think even more importantly, it's highly destructive and exactly the tactics by the left that created donald trump in the first place. their sort of anything goes tactics, that created trump p in the first place and continue to breathe life into him. so russia-gate and the bogus
8:23 am
cases in new york and the cases in atlanta and so forth strengthen him and this is an example, this has helped trump. neil: what do you think of that, that it's going to boomerang on democrats? >> i think democrats and republicans alike agree that this is going to help trump in the short-term. trump has been successful in creating this narrative that he's the victim, that the democrats are out to get him and they're politicizing the legal battles. and one of the most effective so far against trump that he's a threat to democracy and he tried to overturn it before and he's going to do it again if he becomes elected president. so this happening in colorado, what looks like an attempt to interfere with the election, directly contradicts the biden administration's argument that, you know, that the democrats are on the side of democracy, and so, i don't think that this is the last we're going to hear of this. i don't think it's really going to carry through to the
8:24 am
election. and i think that ultimately, voters need to be able to decide the election and it doesn't-- democrats don't want to see it in another way. neil: you know, lee, another thing came up this past week is this emergence and increasing talk of a third party that could be quite disruptive or maybe because of the disruption it's going to work, this go round. this prompted, you know, a back and forth with jim messina, the former top aide to ronald reagan-- i apologize, barack obama. i'm sorry, it's the weekend. and a middle ground way out. i want you to respond to this. >> any sort of pretention that any third party has any chance here is completely b-s so the question, who do they take votes away from? in states like arizona, joe biden won by 11,000 votes,
8:25 am
georgia around the same number. we can't have a third party taking away votes. >> and the greatest threat, i'm afraid for my old friend joe biden, who is this year just not selling what the american people want to buy. neil: what do you think of that back and forth on a third party. depends who the other candidates are? >> it does depend who the other candidates are, but when you look at the candidates out there right now you've got rk, jr., west, and others, and pulling away from joe biden and numbers head to head between joe biden and donald trump, donald trump is winning. when you look at head to head with the five third party candidates out there, it really does hurt joe biden and i think that's in large part because joe biden's approval ratings are so low and so many people don't want him to run again. now, approval ratings for donald trump are low, but joe biden is lower so a lot of people are saying i'd like to
8:26 am
consider somebody else and you look at rfk, jr. polling in some polls at 25%. there's an appetite for something else, i don't think that people will be willing to throw away their vote in this election. both parties talking about democracy, in 2020 the democrats are the ones who said democracy was at stake. now republicans are just as likely to say it, 55% of republicans say democracy is at stake, in large part because you see some of the issues like you have with the colorado supreme court, and people are saying, you know, this is -- this is a real problem that it does seem like democracy is a threat specifically on the republican side now. a different argument than the democrats are making. neil: you know, one of the arguments that the democrats have been making, they think the trend will be their friend the line they are talking about earlier.

increasingly better or more stable economic numbers, a delayed impact, i get that, between the markets hitting new highs and some of the off the chart retail sales numbers and propensity for sales numbers. they say that will happen and be felt in more than enough time when we get to the election, americans will be grateful and happy. it won't be like the late turn-around for george bush serves that came too little too late to help him in 1992. here we have a lot more time for that to register with folks, what do you think of that argument? >> i believe it to some extent. i think that biden spent the entire year trying to explain to people or at least tried to champion some successes we've seen in the economy. there's a chance the economy could have gone into recession, it didn't. we've seen the economy grow, we've seen unemployment stay low while he's also in a place where he needs to acknowledge that people aren't feeling like the economy is strong and that we've seen this disconnect the
8:28 am
entire year between how different economic metrics that show positive signs and the continued negative ratings that voters have to the economy and therefore, biden's handling of the economy. i think as the year goes on and there continues to be strong numbers, there will be some positive impact for biden and he's going to spend the next year trying to connect with voters on that issue and to continue to have them and feel this is something that really is more positive than negative. neil: all right. and to both of your points, still 11 months to go here. it's getting close with iowa and all that, still a ways to go. thank you, i appreciate it very very much. in the meantime you've heard about the red sea and how difficult it is for companies and ships to get around there. you're probably thinking it doesn't affect me. what if i tell you the next time you go to the store or try to buy a gift, it just could. i'll explain after this.

federal reserve especially with the shipping disruptions in the red sea. neil. neil: thank you for that. lauren simonetti, the impact of this, as lauren says, if it reverberates here, from investment strategists, what do you think, is that a concern? i don't see it materializing yet. >> i have good news and bad news, only 12% of customers goes through there. it shouldn't have that much impact on the u.s. right away. what i'm concerned about, neil, it's part of a bigger story i have been talking about for a long time. one thing that's not talked about is oil prices. look what oil has done the past three months, trading around 95 a barrel and now $70 a barrel. why is that? one of the reason is, u.s. oil production is at an all-time high right now and you don't hear the biden administration talking about it, obviously, it doesn't fit their left wing
8:36 am
climate change agenda. why is u.s. oil production at a high. now it's a national security threat to rely on other countries, what it's telling geopoliticals, what's happening in the red sea, russia, china, taiwan, geopolitical tensions. that's going to move to america, a long process, take probably a decade or two decades to move that supply chain over to the u.s. which is one of the reasons why we're passionate and invested into mexico, we think that mexico is a great place to invest as that supply chain comes here, inflationary to americans, but maybe you could take advantage of that from an investment standpoint. neil: interesting. let me ask you about the markets this week. they were racing to new highs, an incredible year for them. i know by the process of possibly the fed lowering rates next year and done with hiking rates next year.
8:37 am
where are you on this? what do you think we're in store for? >> so one of the most interesting stats i'm paying attention to right now, 60% of americans feel like we're in a recession, but we're not in a recession. so, what's happening with the markets is very reflective of what's happening to america as a whole. a big disconnect between main street and wall street. wall street stocks are hitting highs and 60% of americans feel like we're in recession. companies are pretty healthy and efficient right now, but consumers aren't. consumers are spending on credit and relying on w-2 salaries, they don't rely on stocks for income. so the top 1% are doing well while main street is not. i think next year is the year where technology and ai starts to get implemented into stocks which might drive stocks actually higher while sadly the economy is not reflective of that. again, there's going to be a big disconnect between the

economy and the stock markets and the bailouts and printing money makes america weaker. neil: got it. we'll watch closely, luke, and hope you have a great christmas. uncanny read of the markets. there we go. not so inflationary. all right. we were mentions this inflation threat, but what about the threat that chick-fil-a is facing. delicious sandwiches and chicken. in new york, there's a move afoot to make sure they're open on sundays. that's not the case. they're legally trying to force the issue. we'll explain why. ♪
