[laughter] welcome to "fox & friends." rachel: asking questions we can't answer. pete: there's got to be an answer. everything swirls on god's design, on everyone's pattern. rachel: i bet rick knows. pete: i'm sure rick knows. will: it's got to be something with science. pete: that was a bright day with the flag and the moon was right there. i don't know if we have it -- will: it's disconcerting. it should be daylight, and the moon is still out. it doesn't add up. my favorite one is the one where we had the american flag in the midst of the ice and snow-covered forest because with i think it's symbolic of most of the country in the next 24-36 hours. rachel: especially in iowa -- pete: and watching a little bit

of that football game, the beginning of it, kansas city was frozen. you mentioned iowa, and that that's where we go because tomorrow is the iowa a caucuses. we're almost there for the first vote to kick off the 2024 presidential election. and "the des moines register", as they always do, is out with their final poll. they always come out with the last poll, and here it is. as we've seen throughout, donald trump maintains a dominant lead at around 50%. the big change here people are noting is it sort of cements in the swap that we've seen of haley papassing up desantis, although barely within the mar aroundin of error. -- the margin of error. rachel: those numbers were enthusiasm measures, so this could play out especially because of the weather. so is, yeah, haley has jumped over desantis and is sitting at 20%, but the enthusiasm numbers are lower.

and so that will be tested again tomorrow when people go out to caucus which he was to do in person in those horrible temperatures. i just also want to note one other thing, 48% for donald trumpment think about -- donald trump. think about how much election interference has gone into that number remaining as it is with all the election interference. lawsuits and all a kinds of obscure, you know, reasons to charge him and smear him, and yet he remains at 48%. and his enthusiasm number's very high. will: pete, you mentioned vivek ramaswamy, his numbers have crept up slightly, up to 8. i emphasize slightly because it does lead to questions about this post on truth social from donald trump. he wrote the following: vivek started his campaign as a great supporter, the best president in generations. unfortunately, now all he does is disguise his support in the form of deseatful campaign trick

things. very fly. -- sly. vote for trump, don't waste your vote. vi vivek is not maga. i talk about vivek's numbers because you'll be, you'll be understood for your curiosity why, why did he feel the need for this post, why this from donald trump? like, vivek doesn't seem to represent much of a threat to trump -- rachel: good question. will: and and trump's numbers are so significantly ahead of desantis and haley, it's almost, like, don't vote for vivek, it could cost trump, but nothing in the numbers -- pete: still, it doesn't surprise me one bit because donald trump's going to tolerate that to a point, and then he's a guy that wants to finish it and take it to the mat to the end, take nothing for granted. you've seen him last night, he flew in in the mulled of the night if kind of surprise -- he

always fights to the finish, to the last minute, and i think he's saying, hey, if votes for vivek are going to cost me having this dominant if win, then i'm going to turn my guns on him. [laughter] it's how he operates. and it has been -- vivek has effectively used the wake of donald trump, very effectively, by the way, and standing in solitarity with him on the persecution of trump, rightfully so. but he's only going to tolerate that for so long if it leads to, say, let's say haley and desantis supporters get together and it becomes a threat eventually, he's probably looking forward to new hampshire and south carolina too. i think you might see more of this. rachel: interesting. vivek ramaswamy if didn't take the bait and decided to take the higher ground. he said, yes, i saw president trump's truth social post. i don't think friendly fire's helpful. donald trump was the greatest president of the 21st century, and i'm not going to criticize him in response to this late attack. i'm worried february for trump,

i'm worried for our country. i've defended him at every step. i want to save trump and to save this country. let's do it together. you won't hear any friendly fire from me. pete: except there was friendly fire in that. the whole idea -- u6r9 move by his campaign as visors? they're saying it wasn't trump -- will: i think the that's going out of his way not to. rachel: exactly. pete: i want to save trump? who are you saving trump from, himself? will: well, the lawsuits and the criminal trials. rachel: no, no -- pete: too cute eventually. i'm just telling you through the psychology of i think how trump's going the look at this. hey, bud, i don't need your help. i got this. and policies, and he's not a threat. although yesterday you had someone, one of you interviewed a guy in iowa who said i've been polled, and if vivek's not on, not one of the candidates you can poll for. like, they're just asking about the top three. so maybe there's something else happening here. will: i'm just pushing back on the idea that vivek had friendly fire buried in his statement. to me -- pete: i'm worried for trump? what are you worried about? will: i'll explain. to me, i think this is an attempt to i avoid any if semblance of friendly fire. rachel: yeah. will: will this is i'm blaming this on his campaign advisers, not on trump. that's why i'm running for president. now, i'm not pushing back on the idea of what you're trying to guess might be read by donald trump. but i'm telling you what i'm trying to realize from vivek ramaswamy. and your first explanation, your first explanation as to why this post came from donald trump is the one that makes sense to me

which is it's a zero sum game, and he wants every single percentage point. the 28 isn't enough, i want the 35. whatever it may be, i want that the 8% of vivek ramaswamy. vote for trump. rachel: and it's interesting because that's what people do like about donald trump, he leaves nothing on the table. he's, like, i'm just going to exhaust myself, my twitter, my everything because i can't stand the losing, and not only that, i want to win by as much as i can even if i have to take him down. that makes sense to me. it's what people like about him. pete: we can leave it there, but today, this has been cute. okay? if we're voting now. i think there's going to be a little bit of that. rachel: i think that's a good analysis too, pete. let's bring in someone who's on the ground. lawrence jones having breakfast with friends in sioux city ahead

of the iowa caucus. >> i've enjoyed what's been happening on the couch because i think there's a little truth on both sides of this. look, obviously, vivek ramaswamy didn't want the incoming from the former president. but again, as i told him when he was on the couch at one point, there's no room for a new generation of maga when you still have the maga king in the presidential race. and i think a lot of these candidates, you know, i think they're good people. they have great organizations. but they're hitting this wall right now of where the republican voters are right now. and i don't think vi vivek is immune to it especially when every vote is going to count in this caucus with the winter storm. and so i think the former president was, to your point, saying, okay, it's been cute. there's no room for you with, i need these votes right here. as you know, guys, the former president is also extremely

superstitious. and because he has such a decisive lead right now, he's afraid that, you know, people may not show up and it could cost him in iowa. so i think every vote is going to matter here. you saw nikki haley out still trying to campaign. ron desantis and his mom actually out there campaigning, knocking on doors for him from the last stretch. but from what i hear on the ground, it still seems like donald trump has the majority of the energy here. will: thank you so much, lawrence -- rachel: hey, lj, really quick, you know i think you're the best dressed man at fox news, and i just want to tell you, i love the shirt that you're wearing. pete: he's going hunting. that's an amazing trajectory for a man that young who a lot of people didn't know a year ago. and i also think his future is very bright in the party, and i think lj's right, there's no room for, like, maga trump jr. when the king is still on the stage. but that is the future of maga, in my view. pete: well, that's ooh -- we'll continue covering the story, but let's move over to, if you were watching the channel last night a little bit, there was a raucous protest outside the white house when and in new york city because it was the 100-day mark of the war in israel, of the hamas attack on israel which has led to a response. so much so that the gates outside the white house were temporarily disabled because of all the shaking of the pro-hamas, pro-palestinian protests outside the white house. it is indicative of the intractable nature of what's going on not only on the ground in israel as there's not a

stalemate, but it's taking a long time for the israeli mail tear -- military to actually root out hamas, but also the political challenge that this white house is facing which initially showed robust support first reel. now its base is demanding that they back out. rachel: it's beyond the base, pete, which is a concern obviously for joe biden going into this election, but his own staff. he's having mutiny within the white house. i guess next week there's a threat that a bunch of them are going to resign or quit. i think it's worth noting finish. pete: yeah. hundreds planning to walk out of their jobs next week. rachel: yes. so -- and these are probably younger staffers at the white house, but still interesting development. i thought it would be interesting to just look at a few numbers. first of all, on the palestinian side, 23,000 dead -- pete: 8,000 of them are fighters. rachel: correct. correct. but 136 hostages remain. this week one baby born to one

of the hostages. so there's a new born hostage now. and i believe there's 40 children there as well, one just turned one years old, had a birthday while in captivity. so this is just so sad all the way around. if. pete: it's fair. one quick reminored, every single one of those hostages and dead are on the hands of hamas. they're the ones -- rachel: absolutely. pete: -- that attacked on october 7th and brought that retribution. will: you probably herald the story this week about a new york city high school who booted it students for a day, they went to remote learning because a high school principal named jodi cohen at james madison high school brought in illegal immigrants for an overnight stay, she says due to flooding in heavy torrential rein in knight if. rain in new york city. this was on tuesday. she's received a lot of pushback, a lot of backlash in

response to that decision, booting american students in favor of illegal immigrants. she said the following on a zoom call. she said: please know that i put your kids first. i do what i do because i care about children. i find it offensive that people are putting things on that chat. i don't understand how people who never come on a zoom like this could take an opportunity like this evening to throw mud. this is for one night, one night. so she turns the tables and claims she is offended. pete: yeah. rachel: but also the illegal migrants are staying on the football field, i understand, or the field at the school. and so it rained and they brought them into the building, so it's not like we need it for one night and then they're not on the campus. they are. they're on the school campus. pete: i don't think it's a field at the school, it was, like, an air afield -- rachel: oh, i thought it was of the school field. pete: we had one of the moms and

a daughter reacting to this move, and i think they clarifie, rachel, why do you have these illegals in this horrible place where they have to be moved because of weather? rachel: right. why do you have a policy that allows them into the country but you don't have a place for them? pete: and in the first place, you build a shelter in a terrible place. here's the mom and the daughter reacting to the moves of the principal. >> i will be fine, but it's also a day that i could have spent learning, and especially with exams a around the corner, there could have been better prep for it. instead i was home. >> why does james madison or any other school, for example, has to bear the burden of the city's migrant crisis? i mean, floyd men if net field is vulnerable to all weather conditions. but what does that mean, that my child's school will be their shelter this winter? if the government seems to prioritize migrant families over their own law-abiding,

tax-paying citizens. i mean, i feel for the migrant families, i really do, but this is another example of our elected officials not being in touch with the people. i'ming asking the government, asking the president, i mean, please, look at what's going request on in our own neighborhoods, in our own city. will: you know, it's just, deal with it, it's going to happen. you're going to lose your schools, you're going to lose your city services, you're going to lose your tax dollars. the city of chicago mayor brandon johnson won't commit to not raising ab taxes because of the illegal immigrant crisis. deal with it. i'm just telling you, one plus one is two. you know, this is how it works. if you have a southern border that is open, if you have a policy that incentivizes illegal immigrants to come -- and i'm not being call callous tord towards that mother and child, it's like if you jump off a cliff, you fall. this is what happens. it's going to happen here and there and everywhere.

rachel: but you know what doesn't happen? will: you can't pretend this is a problem while pretending that's not a problem. rachel: it doesn't happen in the private schools of the elite democrats who are most in support of this policy. it's going to mix schools. that's where they're having these issues. so, i'm sorry, let's see them go to some of these she esy schools. pete: i'm just proud there's still a james madison high school in new york city. ♪ pete: we are just one day away from the if iowa a caucuses, and as voters prepare to line up in negative degree wind chills in a vote that could determine the next gop nominee, let's break down how the caucuses work. it sounds complex, but it's actually gotten to be a pretty if simple process. first, there's a lot of precinct caucus locations. think local elementary schools, local churches, local libraries. so it's not even towns, it's smaller than that meeting together to decide which candidates they want. candidate representatives each

give a speech, we're talking a short speech, like a minute or two, about their candidate. if you have an organized campaign, then you know who your speaker's going to be. if you don't, maybe someone volunteers to say a few words about the candidate they're supporting. then they hand out ballots, and they're blank. you write the name of the candidate who you're supporting, and you hand it n and then those votes are tabulated by hand and then put into i believe there's a fancy new app they're using in the iowa caucuses to send it up to hq so that we get the results fairly quickly. at least that's how it's supposed to work. here to react, mark lucas, the article iii project executive vice president and iowa caucus voter. mark, did i get that right? is that basically how it breaks down? >> yeah, that's a great overview. and good morning, pete. so the iowa caucus is a party-run function. it's unlike a traditional primary campaign or a general election campaign. it's run by the state party. all 99 county parties along with

precinct leaders run the caucus. it starts at 7 p.m. people are expected to show just a little bit earliment i have to be a registered republican. but if you're not, that's okay. you can register on site. if you're an independent or a democrat or ifs this is your first election, you can register on site. and like you said, pete, you show up at 7 p.m., there might be a pledge of allegiance, a quick prayer. every candidate has a representative speak for a few minutes, and then you start to vote. and in smaller caucus locations it could take 30 minutes. in some larger locations it could be an hour. but it's a fairly quick process. i counted the votes in 2016. every candidate has a representative count those votes. everybody can see it's transparent. they announce those election results, and after that there's some party business, but it's quickly -- a fairly quick process. pete: so we should know tomorrow night who the winner is. i know there's been confusion in past years. do you feel like the process is

stream elined to the point where we'll know? >> i believe so. these local county officials know that they need to get those counts in submitted early as possible so that people can make a call on the election. and often times you see that people show up to the caucus, they'll a place their vote and they'll leave, they won't even wait for the official results to be released at the precinct site, so it's a pretty quick process. and it's funny, you were talking about the locations. back in 2000, that was my first iowa caucus, i was a high school senior, and very stereotypical fashion, the democrats caucus at the school, and the republicans, we caucus at the bank. analyst and fox business contributor phil flynn. good morning, phil. so great to have you on. this sounds like a paradoxer right in the oil and gas industry is booming, and yet the oil and gas industry is saying we're in danger of having an energy crisis. so why don't you break that down for us. >> i think what it is, rachel, that this shortsighted policy by the biden administration is diverting funds into unreliable energy sources, and we're not getting the type of investment in oil and gas in this country that we need to meet demand. and i can tell you today everybody in america is thankful for oil and gas producers because it's cold outside, and without them we would be freezing to death. and think -- i think that's e the key thing here. the u.s. oil and gas industry producing energy more cheaply, more cleanly than any other place in the world. and that's created a lot of economic growth for our society. if we with give that up with shortsighted policies, that means everybody in america suffers not only with higher

prices, but less job opportunities because that's what we create. rachel: let's look at u.s. oil production here. so 1.6 million barrels per day since biden took office. a million of hose barrels came from private lands, 500,000 came from leases sold during the previous administration. so that 's part of what they're looking at a, that we need more federal land because their not releasing -- they're not releasing those leases or creating those leases, and they're looking at the future saying we're going to have shortages. let me ask you this, how much money -- i mean, i'm asking you off the top of my head, so you may not have the number, but just a guesstimate, if you can. how much money do you think we have squaderred in this premature transition to ev based on this climate ideology versus, you know, what we could have been investing in which is our own oil and gas and natural gas? >> i think it's billions. i mean, if you look at the last couple of years whether it be with the cop 28, the international committee, you know, where we're, we're giving up our sovereignty to save the

planet, you know, when we look at the missed opportunities of investment which could have generated more economic growth, it's billions if not more. and the sad thing about this is now we're spending a lot of money on green energy sources, there's no accountability for this money. the u.s. is just writing checks, and we don't even know if they're going to come to fruition or not. rachel: and, by the way, we're also writing checks to third world countries to offset, like, climate injustice. i mean, it's unbelievable when we have $34 trillion in debt, the kind of money we're putting into this, you know, green energy and i think a lot of scamming and a lot of grifting. you mentioned the worth. >> right. rachel: so we're now experiencing, you know, weather temperatures that are probably the coldest on record in some places in over 100 years, so how would that affect energy prices moving forward? >> you know, you can see it right now. we're seeing the price of,

wholesale prices of natural gas go up 400%. and if you look to our neighbors in the north, you know, in alberta today, you know, they're one of the places that produce oil and gas, but they flipped to wind power and solar panels because of this agenda. they're having rolling blackouts. that's dangerous in canada for these type of record cold temperatures and people losing their electricity because of this green energy agenda. i mean, it's madness, you know? if they're sitting on some of, you know, most prolific sources of oil and gas, and they're getting their lights shut off because if they're depending on wind and solar. it's crazy. a. rachel: it's insane. i didn't know that in canada, and we should know more about that. those states, the northern states, they can't afford to have this kind of stuff happen. a lot of people on fixed incomes and people depending on low cost energy. phil, we always love going to you for all the energy information. thanks for joining us this morning. >> thank you. stay warm.
