so let's check back in with lawrence jones who's having breakfast with friends at the horizon family restaurant in sioux city. lawrence, good morning. >> hey, good morning, family. ing so i've been out here talking with the folks, and i find it fascinating because you've got this healthy republican field, you've got a governor with a proven record, ron desantis, you've got donald trump, a former president has his record, a businessman in vivek ramaswamy, got nikki haley who used to be a governor. so i'm just fascinated with it. who do you think is going to be the person that's going to take home the gold in this race in iowa in. >> in iowa i don't see anybody other than trump actually pulling it off and winning. he's got too big a base. he's done historically what he's promised and everything else like that. sort of -- short of something unusual happening, he's going to be the nominee. >> you told me, you say, look, i like ron desantis but not right now.
4:44 am
what did you mean by that? >> i think i like a lot of what ron did through the pandemic. a lot of the things that he has done historically and stuff like that. i just think that trump is a stronger candidate right now. for what you have. >> what is it about donald trump that has the people of iowa galvanized? i mean, you're talking about 50% of iowans want to support the guy. so what is it about him? >> well, it's the economy, it's the fuel if independent, it's the border that he has made, you know, those connections with. i mean, the only thing that really hurt his candidacy -- or his presidency was the pandemic which was out of his doll control. i mean, everything else he was delivering all his promises that he was doing. and he, you know, he's not part of the washington, d.c. scene, and he runs like a businessman. and stuff like that.
4:45 am
so, i mean, it just is a nice alternative. >> yeah. thank you so much, sir. so i always tell people, listen, they say, lawrence, you're always citing the polls. i always tell them the only reason i believe the polls is because it's consistent with what i'm e hearing on the ground. i only question the polls when they don't reflect what's on the ground, and right now it shows that donald trump is the superior candidate, guys. i'll send it back to you guys in new york. will: lauren, i'm going to pick right back up on that right away. let's bring in larry elder, former 2024 presidential candidate. good morning, larry. great to have you on the show. >> will, appreciate you having me. thank you. will: so i want to ask you about this moment that happened on social media over the last 12 hours, and that's donald trump going after vivek ramaswamy. trump posted on truth social vivek started his campaign as a great supporter, unfortunately now all he does is disguise his support in the form of deceitful campaign tricks, very sly.

a vote for vivek is a vote for the other side. don't get duped by this. vote for trump. don't waste your vote. vivek is not maga, and the biden indictments against his political opponent will never be allowed into this country. vivek responded, by the way, larry, and he sort of took the high road and said, rook look, i'm not going to get into a fight with donald trump. what do you think in your estimation preed candidated this attack by donald trump on vivek ramaswamy? i think we have a couple things to consider. let's start with the polls really quickly that lawrence just mentioned. pete had a segment yesterday that's gone somewhat viral. elon musk has talked about it, vivek's talked about it, and there's this idea that the polls aren't accurate because they're not is asking about all of the candidates. so if you say you support vivek, we want the know who you sport among the other three. so my first ve -- scenario, do you think vivek could actually be polling higher so trump is going to go after him because he's actually not 8%?
4:47 am
>> i'll throw you a curve and talk about the special you had a moment ago about the gentleman who gave ron desantis that participation trophy? as somebody who's run for office in california for governor, run for president, i can tell you it is hard. it is grueling. you get about four hours after sleep -- of sleep. your financial life, your personal life put on hold, your personal life subject to scrutiny if you're a republican, it's going to be scrutinized unfairly. you have to be on top of a range of issues. you have to either give a print interview, a radio interview, a tv interview or a fundraiser or the most unpleasant part, asking principle -- people for money. regarding ron desantis, i respect him a great deal. this is a combat military vet who served in a war zone, and in my opinion, did not deserve that kind of disrespect. i bet you anything that the gentleman who said that has never run for dogcatcher, let alone volunteered for the military. regarding your question, my
4:48 am
suspicion is this, vivek has around 6% or so, donald trump wants to get above 50%, and vivek's closing argument is, well, i'm donald trump except i have fresh legs. so if you're buying that, that means that some percentage of people who who like donald trump will vote for vivek because he's younger. that's what donald trump is going after. i think he wants to shave a few points off so he gets over 50% so the media will not say he underperformed. regarding vivek, i've got a quick vivek story if i can share with you. the first debate stage, as you know, i did not make it for reasons i thought were unfair by the rnc. on the eve of the second event, vivek said, larry, if you don't make the second debate, will you endorse this? i said i will consider it if you get up there and say larry elder could not be here, one of his big issue is the the epidemic of fatherlessness. the second debate came he said one of the problems did not mention the larry elder part.
4:49 am
so that's my vivek story, and i can understand why donald trump thinks of him as a slick, deceitful and insincere. no hard feelings, all of these guys with the exception of chris christie would be better than the joe biden. will: ewell, maybe to still strait your -- illustrate your point, this could be what predicated donald trump's attack on save vick v.a., there's a picture where he took a picture with a bunch of guys and it says save trump, and it sort of puts -- vivek didn't coordinate those guys, and it sort of puts him in the position of the savior, and that might not have been something that trump liked. but i actually think your with answer is right. in the end, he just wants all the votes, you know? wants to get above 50%. and, look, or one with man gets to win. one man gets to win, and so everyone else is your opponent of. larry, great to hear from you this morning. thanks for the conversation. >> my pleasure, thank you 'em. will: still ahead, it's national hot pastrami day, and we're e
