in california. wee began fighting in 2018, when the original ban bill was introduced. this is a deep issue. there are concerned about head trauma in youth sports and youth football. the intent is right but direction is wrong. i think the governor coming out late last night and saying he will veto this bill if it reaches his desk, sent a statement it was time to end this and get back to work and work on youth sports safety as we've been doing for six years. >> todd: i got injured in a bunch of sports other than football. broke my finger in baseball. really messed up my nose in basketball. and got a concussion in indoor soccer. shouldn't those sports be banned, too under the california legislature? >> under their logic, but no,

they should not be. >> todd: that is the main takeaway. larger question, ashley. there is laundry list of existential problems in california, crime, homelessness, cost of living, legislature priority is youth football. do you believe this is an attempt by government to control you as a parent and step in your place as a parent telling you how to raise your child? >> i believe it was absolutely government overreach. i think it was somebody who is running for mayor and wanted to put their name out there with something big so there was name recognition for voters. >> tom: steve, what would a ban mean for these kids beside not playing the sport, what does youth football give these kids they can't get elsewhere? >> a lot of things would happen

to kidings. youth sports and youth football in general is a great team sport. we have a lot of kids, especially in california, we went through the covid shutdown and it was impactful and we're just getting kids back on the playing field. a couple years later we're talking about limiting opportunity for kids to be active. a lot of kids sat around on the couch during the covid shutdown and it took kids off the field. now numbers are coming back up and that is a good thing for youth football and kids involved, especially inter-city kids that do not have a lot of opportunity like other kids in california. it is a great sport. it can take you to college one day maybe. just a whole host of impact would have happened. >> todd: good point. steve and ashley, thanks for joining us, keep fighting.
