member was injured. the attack by shia militia members comes as american forces remain on high alert fearing further escalation by iran and proxies. they confirmed the deaths of two missing navy seals off the coast of somalia on a mission to intercept missile components headed for rebels in janelli. it comes as israel marks day 108 of the war against hamas in gaza. over the weekend we visited the front lines with israeli forces in gaza's second largest city. some estimates say 50% of buildings here have been damaged or destroyed since the israeli air and ground campaign began. in the distance you can hear small arms fire. israeli forces are still fighting hamas militants blocks away. using drones and air force to help infantry troops on the ground.

sometimes there are effectively only two but usually there is still a lot still in the race. people said iowa didn't amount to much but it did what it usually does. winnow the field. it has really been winnowed. >> bill: cnn says as of today trump is at 50, haley 39. desantis six. want to ask you about that in a minute. another one from the same poll. desantis voters second choice 62% for trump, haley 30. 2-one split there. you have been thinking about desantis for the last 18 hours. what happened in his campaign with such a burst of steam and money a year ago? >> a great deal being said how he ran a bad campaign and he didn't do this and that and he had a bad launch and so on. i don't think any of that had much to do with what happened to him. i think what happened his campaign was based on a flawed premise, a premise that looked good in the polls a year ago which was that republican voters

angry with trump about a host of things from the turbulence of his presidency to the behavior after the lost the election in 2020, to the losses the party suffered while he was president and leading the party, all of that had turned them to where they were looking for somebody else. somebody with a similar issue profile but without the baggage. desantis thought he could be that person and at the time he decided to get in the race it was a reasonable scenario. the party wasn't ready to turn away from donald trump. once he got indicted by bragg on the flawed indictment. the loyalty they felt to trump came to the surface and i don't think desantis had a chance or anybody did. >> dana: the polls show that on that date of that first indictment it was never -- a slow growth but growth president trump had. >> you know, that indictment was flawed and almost laughable since it was a victimless crime. alleged fraud. everybody who loaned trump money

got paid and -- but i think the later indictments were more credible but i think that bragg indictment stained the whole project and the rest of the charges ended up losing credibility because of what he did and also because of the way he was pursued while president by investigators, by the justice department and the rest of it. >> bill: interesting you point that out. you look at some of the polling in the battleground states, not all of them. there is a pattern going back ten months. it is biden and then october in some of these states it flipped. we went back last week and what happened in october? that wasn't the alvin bragg case. it was the civil fraud trial that james brought against trump for all the real estate transactions going back throughout his career. >> i don't really think that case amounts to much, either. i think people could see that. the truth is when you get down

to it, the republican party is still enthralled with donald trump. it didn't take much to wake up the sentiment again. any other time, any other candidate desantis would have done fine. his campaign was just fine. all this stuff he wasn't cuddly and all that i don't think that had much to do with it. >> dana: people told desantis if trump wasn't in the race i would be their guy. >> i think that's true. >> dana: want to ask you what the white house might be thinking. one of the things you hear over and over again is biden is too old and i admire the deputy campaign manager doing his best to try to explain why it isn't a problem. listen to him. >> when it comes to the president's age we have a simple farm la for that. results. age equals wisdom equals results and experience. president biden because of his age has brought people together from both sides of the aisle to deliver results for the american people. >> dana: will that cut it, britt? >> i don't think so.

the age issue is a serious problem for the president and the fact is people can see that. see his fragility, his feebleness just even by the way he walks. i don't think there is any getting around it. trump is nearly as old but trump seems vigorous and robust and strong. >> bill: like britt. nikki haley said she is not getting out no matter the results tomorrow night. >> that's what desantis said a week ago. >> bill: you are right about that. do you get a sense that by wednesday morning we are diving into a general election campaign? >> it could happen depending on the margin here. look, don't forget. new hampshire is a state almost designed for a candidate like nikki haley because it used to be new hampshire was once really reliably red and through and through republican. that's not true anymore. southern tier of the state is

populated by people who work in boston. a different political profile in the state. a good state for a moderate. the independent vote is huge here. majority largest number of voters are independents. this is a state where someone like nikki haley should really have a chance. she might do something here to give us a semblance of a race for a while at least. >> bill: we're here to see what happens. >> dana: great to sigh. >> bill: want to get to gillian turner now. the secretary of state antony blinken praising mexico for what he calls a key role in stopping fentanyl from flowing across the southern border. some critics say that shout-out is not deserved. gillian turner is live from the state department. blinken was in mexico city three weeks ago. the foreign minister was in washington a few days ago. is something going on on this? >> it turns out secretary of state blinken is crediting mexico with taking what he is calling a leading role in fighting the fentanyl crisis

>> bill: a little more information what's happening in the courtroom in new york city. juror number three, dana, reported that he is feeling ill. the jury has been sent home for the day. haba, the trump attorney doesn't feel well. one or both of her parents have covid. she had a fever for 48 hours and tested negative. trump asked his attorney to remind the judge that tomorrow is the new hampshire primary so the judge, judge kaplan, is taking that under consideration.

stère to take a picture. try not to take a picture. two months ago i left my wallet at home when i was trying to fly. i am a public person and traveling with a team of people. i was stopped by tsa. i had people recognizing me saying hey, dave. i still had to wait two hours. i suspect that if i was a migrant it wouldn't have been that difficult. why are we allowing these people to be in the country in the first place and fly wherever they want, take our services, etc. part of the tweet i editorialized saying it was an invasion is becoming more fact than opinion. it is one of the few jobs of the federal government to protect the border and if we are not going to do that and then we let people go anywhere, sure, come in through texas, go live in san diego or chicago, it doesn't matter. we will not have a country and i think that's actually fueling a lot of the resurgence of trump right now. >> dana: president biden was at

an 18% approval rate for immigration and the border in particular. i wonder, dave, just in your observations, your talking to people, do they take the border issue and include things like this in terms of getting around inside the country once they're here. >> this is the first time in my life -- you guys know i was a liberal for most of my life. i hear from liberals oh my god, the border actually matters. i think some of that is in relation to what happened in israel on 10/seven. the state of people's realizing bad things can happen has been ramped up in their mind. it is also the videos that fortunately you guys on fox are the only mainstream network showing the videos of migrants flooding in every day. they aren't migrants. that implies they are only here for work. we have no idea what these people are here for. we just don't know why is it they all appear to be 25 to 35 year old generally men.

lawrence jones here, a lot of voters look at this and say "the new york times" surveyed election officials in the "new york times" found that in all van bragg's case no one had ever brought a case new york prosecutors in a civil election. no one could find that about a victim prosecuted in the civil real pal and then you go to ballot removal. that's the animating feeling among republicans. however, donald trump has to win independents and why the vp pick is so important. having someone to litigate these cases going on i is credibly received by independents and suburban women. >> dana: there were voters who went from obama to trump and back to biden. how does president trump plan to get those voters again to switch and go with him? >> lawrence: if you look at that pew poll -- gallup poll done

after the election and right before the election. 52% of americans said they were better off with trump. they didn't vote for biden -- but the tone and tenor. you have the convenience to talk about tone and tenor when everything is going well and you aren't going to the grocery store and inflation is not here and the border is not out of control and crime is not out of control. you can make those type of arguments. what we hear from voters is different. i tell people from the very beginning of this republican primary process, these candidates are wasting their time. they deserve the right to run but i've been talking with dinners all over the countries and they all say the same thing. we want to return to life being better for us. >> bill: interesting. there will be a fundamental question at some point this week. we might as well crack it open right now. how many of these issues that you are talking to among diners

across america, how many of these issues, problems, scenarios, crises, can joe biden make better in the next ten months? >> that's the fundamental question. it is all the border and economy. economists would say the economic outlook is looking better. interest rates will likely come down. the fed has indicated that. that makes cars and housing more affordable. is there enough time for voters to feel the change? donald trump what a powerful message to say when i was president of the united states we had wages going up for black and latino and black americans. the economy was robust until covid hit. the feeling that voters feel. >> lawrence: to that quickly. the president as well as the white house have not conceded on the point of feelings. they explain away. i think he would have a great opportunity because when you get
