they know that on that issue, which when we were in iowa and new hampshire and our polling showed immigration had become number one for voters. but voters also say they trust president trump to handle it much more than they do president biden so they know they need to do something on this now. so you heard president biden last night saying if you just give this to me i will sign it and shut the border down that's got republican critics saying he has thing to do right now to shut the border down and why would the gop give him cover for that this and that is the split where the gop is happening. pete: absolutely. here shannon is biden and trump yesterday on the campaign trail talking about this issue. watch. >> bill or the law today i would shut down the border right now and fix it quickly. >> a bipartisan bill would be good for american help fix our broken immigration system and allow speedy access for those that deserve to be here and congress needs to get it done. >> the so-called voter security deal biden is gushing out and

unh unh are a palestinian relief organization that the united states funded that gets funding from countries around the world. and it turns out that there's an allegation that -- 12 employees that work for the organization also took part in some capacity on the october 7th terror attacks. the allegation is that one of the employee -- one of the employees potentially housed one of the hostages and others celebrated while teaching children in school. now, nine countries including the united states have suspended funding for unrwa but this is funding that the biden administration started up again after the trump administration paused it. so biden administration officials have to face a lot of questions about this. >> yeah charely you're so right this is shocking. but it is not surprising to a lot of people ho say we have been tracking you guys have covered i've covered it fox has covered it for years there are real issues with this agency. they're in a lot of schools -- are they teaching kids to hate

that gun was broken and they thought that might be a fake gun so we have our opportunity. harrison ended up getting pistol whipped -- there's a photo going around i don't know if we have it. pretty big wound on the top of his head. well, for standing up to these would be robbers, harrison and also i believe his -- coemployee have been fired by starbucks. here's what "the new york post" reports, the impressed cops who showed up thanked harrison and jones ransom that's his other coworker for their courage and place two suspects in their cruisers so they were apprehended the two suspects. the baristas were placed on paid leave for two weeks starbucks officials investigated the incident but i got a call few weeks later harrison said once the media died down they told me they were terminating me. i was surprised i was distraught, i was confused. >> so ex-starbucks are suing because wrongful termination when you read this story two

years ago you would have thought this was absurd now this is common place is there a single employer out there that will actually back up their employees because if they try to prevent a theft. >> lululemon something like that -- been a couple of incidents. displeet retail chains saying don't try to put your hands on them or stop anybody if they're stealing just let them go. carley: this one employee harrison is certainly suing and then starbucks starbucks spokesperson responded to the this revelation and they said to new york post we were deeply disturbed to learn of this frightening incident partner safety is at the core of how we operate in our stores and we're so grateful that our partners and customers did not come to greater harm in this situation. in situations like there training and protocols comply and deescalate not for their safety but the sate safety of all in the store and this has happened at lululemon and other places where the -- policy of the store is if somebody comes in and robs the

store. you're just supposed to do everything that they say. give them the whatever they want, the merchandise, money so that everybody stays safe. so if you break that protocol, then you get fired. but what he did was he -- saw that it was a fake gun and stood up after pistol whipped they demanded cash he said i thought i was going to die and then he did the right thing. the robbers fled, and then what's the thanks he gets, he gets fired -- there has to be some sort of not a blanket policy you look at each individual action by the employee. and decide whether to fire them or not. will: i get the policy i can imagine how some sat down with attorneys and said we need a company policy and let's -- pete: minimize liability. and keep people safe. will: i don't a fight or gunfight erupting in my store i get all of that. what we have to balance against that is that when you simply

accept victimhood you're like this is the role that i take on in any situation you encourage more instances of being a victim. you know, that's the problem. the policy and it is not just store policies it is like a societal policy embraced overall if you're going to say i am -- constantly on my heels and always a victim never -- capable of defense then you always be on your heels you'll always be a victim. carley: absolutely. pete: a cultural social almost like we've not stood up to this and let it go and turn to the lawyers. carley: and then think about the increase crime rate so -- had is in the news now because stores are getting robbed left and right in cities across the country and then they're allowed to take the money and run -- because they know these policies and then if they eventually caught out on bail nothing ever happens. will: turn to headlines study ranks u.s. military as, quote, weak -- and warns lack of action could

will: anti-semitism rages across college campuses schools need to focus on growing a students character. this come as confidence in higher education hits a historic low. dropping to just 36.down 16 point from 2015. so here with more pepperdine university president jim gache. the president and i have gotten ton each other over the last couple of years a proud alumni of pepperdine that makes me more proud to see what you're saying what you want this university to stand for and what you've written in op-ed that was published at "newsweek." tell me what you want affirmed values what is pepperdine stand for? >> it stands for the creation of character and molding of character in our students as they come through. you know as we all heard that knowledge is power. but that power needs to be harnessed and directed that's

what character does. so we want to bring stiewpghts in who are interested in that sort of education but then a little equip them by having a community that prepares them to be leaders of character and courage and creativity it . will: this isn't just a infomercial for pepperdine but i've wanted american college campus to stand proudly on its values because i think appetite out there among parents is just -- oh i need a college that stands for -- positive values e flexion of what my family invested in for years and if that's what pepperdine wants it to be it will be met with a hungry demand. >> we're seeing that. we see parents are eager for kids to come into a culture that exist that says we want to have a wide ranging conversation about the issues of the day. led by professors of strong character who will engage with them rather than delegate to, you know, a research assistant or teaching assistant have a

curriculum to things that matter for our country and then sending them abroad sending them into the world -- to deepen their cultural humility that is an important part of this as well so teach them how to serve. will: you read two i think thises in your op-ed a vision for pepperdine must form view point diversity safeguard academic freedom and stimulate intellectual curiosity you're talking about freedom. some of the stuff we're not seeing on ivy league campuses right now but i want to pause against this you said colleges must build character in their students instilling integrity humility and selflessness so i like that but i also think we're the president of harvard for example, that -- integrity like the values is what for them is antagonistic to academic freedom. >> as it is played out.

they're taking a principle position that now says -- shut up those ideas are not valuable. >> as we've seen as -- one of our heros ronald reagan has said freedom is one generation from extinction and it is got to be passed on intentionally. and in order to do that you've got to engage in this -- wide ranging conversation, we're not confused about what we believe. we want to hear from other people who disagree to tell me more. but let me explain to you why you're wrong. a tribute to aristotle is entertain a thought without accepting that sounds whereon and here's why it is wrong so we can talk about what's true and beautiful and noble and right from a standpoint of reaching that based upon a conversation that constructive civil dialogue and that's what we're having at pepperdine. >> i'm rooting for you and proud

a denver small business owner is fuming after city denied her a grant meant to offset the cost of a nearby homeless camp

despite meeting all of the requirements. a city official says we definitely understand how frustrating it is to the business when they meet the eligibility criteria but we just don't have enough funds to spread them around. samantha mendez is co-owner of one backed in denver and joins us now with more. samantha good morning to you the fact that denver has this graduate program for small businesses impacted by homeless encampments really says it all. so tell us what you're going through. >> i mean, basically they came up to us and, you know, during this whole encampment situation they said that funds are coming and don't worry about everything. it will be okay. kind of work through it for the time being. it was eight months of us with 200 plus tents around our business, and basically nothing came for us. they gave us, you know, nothing

in the end and we had to go through eight months of craziness and we still received nothing. so it's still a little bit -- it's sad to be quite honest. >> 200 camps around your business. so i'm assuming that there was a decline in customers. can you tell us about that? who wants to step over homeless people to get into a business? >> yeah. i mean, not just homeless people it was -- you know, drug deals right outside of our door. prostitution -- i physically got attacked inside my own bar by the same people that were sitting outside of my bar so, of course, didn't want to come there and across the street people couldn't get there and decline was pretty quick. you know, the first three months was fine and then after that it was pretty aggressive for the decline of business so for new business that's -- crazy. carley: oh, my gosh sounds like

apocalyptic scenario how do you feel about this -- >> it felt like one. carley: how do you feel about this grant pral in general wouldn't it make more sense for the city to take care of the situation remove these homeless camps opposed to trying to give money to businesses impacted by them? >> yeah. i mean, they did, they gave almost every business around us a grant. i think they probably should have spread the graduate out just a little bit more. considering they had, you know, certain businesses almost all businesses got 15,000 dollars. they were to just spread that money out a bit more it would have helped a lot more people. out of -- the 3,000 businesses that applied only 69 got them. and pretty much every corner around us got the grant -- but us. glareal so frustrating. >> it doesn't change anything for us. so -- carley: really quickly before we let you go what's the situation outside your business now are homeless camps still there and what's the future of your business? >> they are gone. thank god --

pushback against donald trump and make america great again and what we -- stood for. >> but, i mean, obviously, it spikes in 2020 with the death of george floyd and number of statue removals spikes and by the way, you know it is happening today but look at this like -- it is like dei -- you know, not backlash but -- jump in and it is a moment you know and everybody does it and comes back down. but -- even that being said pete, there were people at a time like donald trump going this is only the beginning and look where this goes. >> right here these dates will we're talking about confederate generallies and leaders everybody saying that is where it is going stay to your point donald trump in august of 2017 gave a warning. listen to this. >> right behind you, over here this week sses robert e. lee i notice stone wall jackson is coming i wonder if it is george washington this week and thomas jefferson the week after you know you really do have to ask yourself where does it to? >> by the way.

tell us about it. >> yeah. you know, this race is pretty unique there's people from all around the world you know there's 6, 700 entry fees, motorcycles, trucks, cars. quads, these big track truck race machines, and to win one time is -- cool and then to wean it a second time is definitely legendary. so really stoked to be the only american to do so and hopefully we can -- keep it going. pete: those different categories or you can choose whatever type of vehicle you want? >> yeah you know you can choose what vehicle or motorcycle you want. and you know, obviously, bikes will race bike and quads will race the quads and cars are cars and trucks are trucks but every category you know is -- got its own rules but a car category is most difficult one for the rules because there's, you know, certain tires that you have to run and engines you have

to run you can't have onboard air two-wheel drive and bike is just the bike you either race rally proclass or rally two which is amateur class. >> how -- if it is a 4,000 mile race it is not as if you're driving between cones you have to navigate a little bit i would imagine, right? >> yeah. you get like a paper road map and -- kilometers on left side, and information in the middle. and then you've got information on the right-hand side that's how you navigate through the desert and doing that at speed dodging rocks and camels and trees is not easy but that's what we live for. pete: incredible and you have to plan for stops for gas and -- so the whole thing is got to be a team exercise too. >> yeah. 100% it's -- you know, it's one of those things where the tealwork makes dream work. but the team helps us --
