>> alicia: this hour at campaign event with california governor newsom got around michigan one day after other democratic governors and he met with the president for a "crisis meeting" at the white house. welcome back to fox news live everyone on this fourth of july i am anita vogel and hello to you, alicia. >> alicia: hi, anita, i am alicia acuna and on that meeting just in "president biden told the governors that he needs to get more sleep and work fewer hours including curtailing events after 8:00 p.m." according to sources. go ahead. >> anita: no problem the report also says "after governor josh green of hawaii, a physician, asked mr. biden questions about the status of his health, mr. biden replied that his health was fine, it's just my brain, he added, a

remark some thought of as a joke but at least one government did not and was quite puzzled by" senior white house correspondent jacqui heinrich reporting live from the north long. that was kind of an interesting remark the president made. >> you know, anita, there were a lot of headlines this morning about that democratic governor's meeting with the president saying that he got a strong showing of support from all of these governors who descended on washington to assess the situation for themselves and look at biden's viability as a candidate heading into november, but i was left wondering after being there myself if we were all watching the same press conference because that press conference did not lead with any confirmation that the president is in fact staying in the race despite all the denials we have been hearing from the campaign, the white house, and people around him that he is potentially considering it's. this is what we heard and that press conference in chronological order just listen.
11:03 am
>> a path to victory in november is the number one priority and that is the number one priority of the president. so if that is what we are trying to get done. >> we always believed if you love someone you tell them the truth. and i think we came in and we were honest about the feedback we were getting but the thing that makes us both stomach most optimistic and most hopeful is not necessarily that we are afraid of an alternative. but also that we are hopeful for the future. >> and then new york governor kathy hochul said what we are were all listening for. >> we came together tonight to listen to president biden tell us in his own words what his plans were. i am here to tell you today president joe biden's in it to win it. >> she did not answer my question there but they did say they have the president's back however it is a delicate line with him watching all of these elected democrats toe among reports biden knows he has a tough road ahead as long as he

wants to stay in the race they are publicly supportive but in the meantime others are beginning to worry about the timeline for a swap. in the meantime the president's public message is that he is not dropping out, he did tape this interview monday morning. >> i had a bad night. i had a bad night. the fact of the matter is that, you know, i screwed up, i made a mistake. but i learned from my father when you get knocked down just get back up. get back up. >> yesterday the president dial into an all staff call to try to get rid of some concerns of them on his campaign we will see him later today on the south lawn for a fourth of july event but the big watershed moment could come in his abc interview tomorrow. very high-stakes. >> we'll be watching that and i guess the report from the governors, jackie, i guess what that's what you call bearing the lead, right? >> yes.
11:05 am
if he is staying in the race and there is no question, that is the headline. and it took a really notable amount of time to get to that point which was stunning to me. >> it was, great reporting jacqui heinrich live from the white house thank you, jackie. alicia? >> alicia: anita and jackie let's bring in our panel met gorman former senior advisor for senator tim scott 'his campaign of vice president targeted victory and former democrat of new york state senator, gentle men happy fourth to both of you and thank you for being here. david, i want to begin with you in this "new york times" report that has the president telling governors that he 1 needs more sleep, fewer work hours, including curtailing events after 8:00 p.m. none of those things come with the job of being president. >> look, i think what this shows you the meeting with the governors is that the democrats are in lockstep behind joe biden and all in an effort to make sure donald trump does not

return to the white house. and this election, even though we don't like it this way, the truth is people are voting against more than they are voting for. and this recent reuters poll that was out there are a lot of bowls but this one in particular shows michelle obama so far ahead. it also shows joe biden tied with donald trump and faring better than other potential democratic candidates. so i think it is about making sure donald trump doesn't get a chance at the white house again those four years and you see the democratic party is unified and regardless of what happens at the convention, whoever the candidate is, everyone in the democratic party that is with joe biden right now is going to stay with that candidate to make sure they win in november. >> alicia: matt, i will get you in the second because david you said who they are voting for. again, president biden is asking them right now to vote for someone who thinks there should be fewer hours on the job.
11:07 am
is that okay? >> it's about quality, not quantity. i think we all know that that we want our president to be effective. how many presidents have spent a whole four years and got nothing done? so it's easy to talk the talk. we have way also many politicians overpromising and under delivering and that is not joe biden. joe biden has a legacy, has a record to run on, and what could you ask for more than politics today when words are cheap but actions are what count? and joe biden has that record. he is going to run on that so as long as he can continue to do the job, i think that is what americans want to see and they want to be able to support another four years of joe biden because he has actually gotten results. contrary to what many across the aisle would say, but you can look at the record and he has actually achieved things when many others have come and said they have done it he will do it. >> alicia: matt come what do republicans have to say?
11:08 am
and answering what david was bringing up but i could not help but notice we have not seen a lot of former president trump lately. is that by design allowing biden in his campaign to fill this air? >> no, no, first of all there was a window, right? i think tuesday when all is said and done i think likely it will be kamala harris at the end of the day, but tuesday was that pivot point where you started to see a lot of that starting to break come up close he started to question whether or not this was a one-time thing or more of a chronic condition, clyburn, lloyd doggett came in, they had a window. if they were on top of their game, the biden campaign they had a window from thursday night and told tuesday morning to get out there and to a news conference, do an interview. at the very least, call chuck schumer. kol hakeem jeffries, call nancy pelosi, they did none of that. that is either because ai think partly they're all in a bubble and they didn't take this seriously like the existential threat to his campaign that it was or number 2, he couldn't

handle it, we will see what comes out of this stephanopoulos interview but i just don't feel like there is any way past we have gone off this cliff and in a lot of respects anyway to come back from this if you are joe biden. >> alicia: david, can you answer that? it's been a week. why haven't we seen a more forceful response from the president to answer everyone's concern? himself, him walking to the might come him doing this, he didn't interview we didn't even see them on camera. >> first we have this hard deadline of august 7th if we want to make sure we are on the ohio ballot but even then we can move forward and not have everyone on the ohio ballot would be optimal but we have time it's the july 4th holiday right now. we are in the midst of it and you heard joe biden being very forceful and say he is running. he has been very clear on that. and i think that is what you want to hear from the president and that's why the governors were there. that's why really no prominent

democrat is calling for joe biden to step aside because even with that lackluster de debate, for debate, we all know it, still joe biden has the opportunity and we believe it a pathway to beat donald trump. as much as joe biden lost that debate to donald trump, he did not when my. donald trump for all of the talk he should have done a lot better and made moves toward the middle and we still see that middle those undecideds up for grabs and they are just as much people to be won by joe biden as they are donald trump. >> alicia: okay and i am double checking right now are we also going to bring in, okay we are going to be bringing in jeff mason, he is a writer's white house correspondent we will get some reporting from him. but matt, also in the meantime your party is headed into its convention next week, late next week. this is the democrats figure out what they are going to do with their ticket. there a chance this will take away some of the shine on your

event? >> i don't think in any way, right? there's no reason for it if you're the trump campaign they're doing the exact right thing. sit back, watch the democrats fight amongst themselves, watch this play out. the vice presidential announcement, any campaign, it's a narrative center it changes the narrative. it would be one of the few things that would get this story off the front page barred by actually stepping aside. so will save that trump card, no pun intended, until he needed. laissez of tom petty bad debate, thursday i mean he didn't, but then you want to change the narrative. let this play out there is no rush in any way, shape, or form especially with his sentencing being postponed, let this happen. you plenty of time. >> alicia: matt gorman, david, thank you for the conversation i appreciated, happy fourth to both of you. now i will continue this conversation now with jeff mason writer's white house correspondent, jeff thank you so much, good to see you on this day. i want to begin by talking to you about this pushback from the

biden campaign but also that involves these democratic governors. they came to the microphone, they were not the most forceful i think as they could've been in jacqui heinrich was reporting on the timeline of their event, how they came out and started talking about the importance of winning but really did not throw their weight behind joe biden until the end of that news conference. as that is happening, what is the volume right now and the conversations behind the scenes that you are aware of with other people who are hoping to make it onto that ticket should biden and/or harris not be there? >> i think it's a little bit of a "hurry up and wait" game right now which is underscored by the fact that there's a legion of crisis and the democratic party because there is a question marker on the person on the top of the ticket. president biden made it clear in the email and call to his campaign staff he is still income he is running, and that is clearly the message he gave to those governors as well but i think these sort of somewhat lackluster response you are referring to is an illustration
11:13 am
of the fact that not everyone in the party is convinced. and they want to see how he does with the george stephanopoulos interview you were talking about the previous panel. they want to see how he does in the coming days and weeks he is supposed to have a press conference next week during nato, that would be his first full on press conference in a really long time. that is the question. how does he do? i think the biden folks still think he can absolutely still think they can salvage this reelection and this reelection campaign, but there is a big question marker and they know that too. >> alicia: no you talk about nato next week but also next week on monday the houses back in session. and you have a lot of congressional republics, two right now who have come forward officially but behind the scenes is different and reporting by axios also is that a lot of folks are waiting in the wings to see what her team jeffries decides to do and move forward. for your thoughts on that? pico i think you meant to say to

big alicia, good afternoon noah and the the democratic leisure, leadership has talked about how democrats don't think the president can sustain the situation. democrats are worried with congress being on recess this week, and to buy president biden time he doesn't have. >> to go out this week, that's where time is not on his side. white house staff can't rapid, i mean he should've been on the phone friday. it took also so long to get on the phone. >> more democrats may start to distance themselves from the president if he fails to leave the race. it is possible a democratic mass exodus could persuade president biden to quit. >> the buy demonstration is not running the show. it's a campaign decision being made at dnc headquarters headquarters. the reality is that democrats are going to have to have a conversation in their own home on what they want to do.

congresswoman nicole maliotakis, congressman great to have you today. i don't know if you were able to hear chad's report but with regard to these 25 or more letters circulating on capitol hill among democrats he said nobody has seen them but i know you are very plugged in on capitol hill. what you know about these letters? >> i haven't seen any letters either but what i will say is clearly the democrats are concerned about him being a drag on the ballot. they know he has been incompetent for quite some time, that he has had these mental instability in terms of memory. i think this is well known on capitol hill. i think the issue is they are only willing to acknowledge it now because he has been a drag on the polls. this is more about protecting themselves and their members' reelection and set up what is best for the country because clearly the person on that debate stage the other night, joe biden, is not the person running the country. the question is who is? who is working behind the scenes
11:22 am
on this terrible agenda that has really hurt american families? and i guess my view is even if you are to replace joe biden with kamala harris you are simply just replacing in cognizance for incompetence. and it doesn't really matter because the democrat agenda is so terrible and the american people see it. that is why they are losing in these polls. they are not happy with the open borders agenda. they are not happy with the energy destruction that is fueling inflation, the highest interest rates in two decades. that is why the democrats are not doing well, because they want to return to the successful policies of the trump administration. >> anita: congresswoman to your point the president a positivistic client certainly didn't happen last week all of a sudden on the debate stage, this has been on display a couple as you mentioned slurring his words, losing his train of thought, forgetting people's names, print and where to go on stage, let's play a little clip of some of his blunders right

>> alicia: a conversation today between president biden and israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu as they talk about a potential deal to free hostages held in gaza including these five u.s. citizens still thought to be alive and the bodies of three others. correspondent trey angst reports live from tel aviv. hi, tres. >> anita, good afternoon. right now the israeli cabinet is eating about a possible cease-fire deal with hamas. so far diplomatic efforts for a cease-fire and ongoing conversations have been unsuccessful, though there is hope according to reports that there could be a breakthrough in negotiations. as president biden and israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu spoke over the phone today about a possible
11:31 am
hostage deal in the current security situation paired with a focus on gaza, israel is facing a deteriorating security situation in the north. has bowl on a massive attack against israel today hiring more than 200 rockets and 15 joint among drones in the country. incoming fire after a separate barrage yesterday of more than 100 rockets all in response to the israeli killing of a senior has blocked commander from one of the highest rankings since the conflict began. is really forces are reportedly showing southern lebanon going after some rocket launching positions used in these attacks. the exchange of fire led to the death of one israeli soldier and the situation continues to cause widespread damage to northern israel. >> the fire damage is very, very large in my opinion. there was damage in 2006 but the increase today is much greater. we are talking about tens of thousands that were burned in terms of open space and forests. >> israeli officials say there
11:32 am
is a direct correlation to gaza and lebanon, they are hopeful if they cease-fire deal goes into effect it will de-escalate the situation in the north. anita? >> anita: no doubt and those u.s. hostages in all the other hostages will hopefully come home. tray is live in israel think y you. >> alicia: let's bring in our era mesh a democratic national security analyst, thank you so much for being here. first question how encouraged are you by these reports there could possibly be a breakthrough in these negotiations right now? >> it's good to be with you and have a fourth. there are three really important variables here to consider. the first, is what is the current standoff situation between israeli military and come offs? israeli military has gone very deep into gaza releasing a number of hostages and managed to decapitate and incapacitate a large number of hamas battalions and hamas leadership but there
11:33 am
is still a number of hostages missing. we don't know where they are so what is the report on the standoff? what is the latest intelligence report? do we know exactly who is whom and where they are? but let's move on to these five hostages that are supposed to be exchange. is come offs going to hold onto the last minute? because we know hamas is being supported by a ran. their most important proxy in the region's has blow so is iran going to put pressure to say hold on, don't release these guys because i want to see what israel does as you know hezbollah has been barraging rockets and missiles from the north and the third most important city of israel is under direct fire so are a lot of by the northern is really order and southern lebanese border so are the remaining hostages going to be used as bargaining chips by hamas and demand by iran because of
11:34 am
hezbollah so we have to see how this will play out but again, it is very important for the u.s. and israel to share intelligence here. it's important to get the hostages out and also it's very important to reduce civilian casualties as much as possible because, again, if you want to make long-term peace and stability it's really important to hit the bad guys and make sure the good guys the civilians are not hurt. >> anita: i want to put up something "the wall street journal" has in the cease-fire talks with new signs of progress writing a key change is that hamas is no longer demanding a full israeli withdrawal. during the first stage of the deal the official emphasized that negotiations with hamas would still be difficult likely requiring several weeks to hammer out any deal for the sick beginning stage one. so this really points to how delicate things are and how slowly things are. at the same time you can't ignore the politics that this president and israeli prime minister we are doing with right now are both in the fight for their political lives. how much space is that fact
11:35 am
taking up in some of these talks in the conversations that biden and netanyahu are having in the considerations and the back and the negotiations you think? >> i wish we lived in a world where domestic political consideration had zero impact on national security decision-making. that is just not the case. president biden is facing a really tough reelection campaign and reelection in november of 2024. prime minister netanyahu as unpopular as he can get, he has a very small majority out of the 120 seats and a 64 seat majority so four seats or five seats so it is very, very shaky, but again, the key point is here. you mentioned hamas is a great to the full is really withdrawal during the first pages but that's just not going happen. israel is there and israel is going to make sure that the cleanup is done until there hostages are released. and israel i mean we have to
11:36 am
look at the realistic picture and i think this is one of the biggest criticisms against netanyahu what your postwar plan? with the military be there forever and without any plans but it's a very delicate situation. there are definitely domestic and internal political calculations here. >> anita: i'm so sorry to cut you off. you have more expertise than i have time right now and i just wanted to tell you how much i appreciate your time today. take you so much. >> could be with you. >> alicia: good to be with y you. the economist out -- >> anita: the economist at with this brutal new cover story calling on president biden to step aside as other outlets deal or detail the president of hospice decline from sources closest to him more on that n next. >> the fact that joe biden has not been out taking questions from the media, taking questions from voters unscripted for 90 minutes, a couple of hours, the fact that he has not done that in the past seven days,
