people protesting the idf in israel are democrats. that makes them vulnerable. number two is desantis came to play. he was fired up last night and he nailed that speech. a lot of cut aways to trump and i could see over his head. the family was pretty happy with that. and this is important. i mean, i remember 2016, it doesn't seem like 8 years ago, i'm anti-trump, i'm pro-trump. is he going to be able to hold onto the nomination? what's going on. that stuff is gone. that is gone now. these people are all on the same page. >> lawrence: goes back to obviously the party had already started to unify after the debate performance they definitionly unified. but with an attempted assassination on the former president and marco rubio really, you know, he used the victim -- the guy that lost his life, former fire chief, and he kind of wove it in his speech of hot trump voter is. and i thought that was thoughtful. it was inspirational to a lot of folks that are out there.

[shouting] hey! [cheers] >> video also shows law enforcement struggling to get through a fence surrounding the secure perimeter. eventually the parole car rammed the fence to prevent the opening. secret service shot the gunman after the shot began. bipartisan efforts on capitol hill to determine how the

shooter was able to get on to a roof top so close to the former president. this afternoon, members of the house and senate will receive virtual briefings from the justice department. secret service and the fbi. department of homeland security's inspector general who was confirmed to the post during the trump administration is also investigating the veto service's handling of saturday's rally. the widow of corey comperatore the firefighter who died in saturday's shooting says she received a call from former president trump. helen comperatore posted on facebook he was very kind and said he would continue to call me in the days and weeks ahead. i told him the same thing i told everyone else. he left this world a hero and he did not die in vain that day. >> >> corey was one of the millions of everyday americans who make our country great. he wasn't rich. he wasn't famous.

and the only reason why we know his name and story now is because last saturday he shielded his wife and daughters from an assassin's bullet. and lost his life the way he lived it, a hero. [applause] >> and several go fund me sites have been set up to help the victim's family. one for the comperatore family has raised more than $1 million and another one for all of the victims' family that the trump campaign has helped set up has raised more than $4 million. back to you guys. >> steve: jonathan, you showed a little of that video right there of another strategic error and that was the locked gate. there needed to be a guard at the gate. if it had to get out and they couldn't get out. they had to jump over it. the only way they got through it was that deputy drove a vehicle through it so they could get out. >> right.

right. the gentleman who shot that video, that army veteran, that's what surprised him. he said he was surprised there wasn't more advanced planning that there wasn't an officer station somewhere on that fence to have a controlled entry point. >> ainsley: jonathan, i know that secret service and fbi are going to brief the house and the senate today, it's very strange when you listen to the director of the secret service say that we were monitoring the situation on the roof from inside the building, can you tell us more about that? >> yeah. and there are some different claims from different law enforcement sources. now, the building was just outside of the secret service perimeter and so local law enforcement was in charge of pa 2r08ing that area. we did have a federal law enforcement source that said there was a local law enforcement presence inside the building where the shooter was on the roof, secret service had said no one was stationed on the

roof of that building because it had sort of an angular roof. but then there's another police source saying that the local law enforcement presence was actually in an adjacent building. so, a little bit of arguing among the various law enforcement officials. >> brian: thanks, jonathan. they are saying a slope on the roof is the most insulting thing ever. something about the shooter, turns out that he had another phone. they found another phone but the battery was dead. hopefully that phone reveals more. there is no indication on the first phone it seems so far. evidently the parents seem like nice people. detachingsd from their son who, as usual, tell me if you heard this before a loaner, constantly bullied in school. they talked to his guidance counselor yesterday. his guidance counselor say he would eat alone. a lot of times i would walk up to him do you want to eat together he said no i'm fine. hygiene, the way he looked, he held himself, left him open

some people on the right, some trump fans saying the speech maybe wasn't as effusive as they wanted in terms of her support for trump. but, i don't think that was the goal. that was not the intended audience. if you want glowing speeches about donald trump, you have got many of them here at the convention. she was targeting her message very specifically to the trump wavering voter. the trump skeptic voter saying things like you don't have to agree with him 100 percent of the time to vote for him. and then giving, of course, her endorsement and then going after not just joe biden but kamala harris. that speech was crafted perfectly, i think, for what her task was, which was different than, for example, desantis speech which was much more rah-rah, rip roaring. couple memorable lines like weekend at be bernie's. >> lawrence: he had all these past prior statements about donald trump. think think they forgot about
