president as lawmakers across the aisle demand accountability from the agency. that should be happening soon, this will be the first of its kind since the attempt at assassination so this is big, john welcome everyone i am sandra smith in new york. >> a big friday coming up the next hurco hours i am john roberts in washington and this is "america reports." whistle-blowers continue to shed light on the security failures leading up to the assassination attempt. today 'a secret service acting director ronald rowe is expected to face more tough questions. they are sounding off calling the leadership team "the kings of cover up" >> sandra: chris swecker former fbi director will join us live in moments. >> beginning with david spider and are we going to learn anything today or will this be more no information? >> we hope so it will only be ronald rowe doing this today as the fbi will not be there, it is only secret service.

row is expected to lay out the official timeline and talk about newer forms. this is the first on camera press conference since the assassination attempt on the 13th. the press conference was announced a few days after florida senator rick scott scolded him for not updating the public. still a lot of finger-pointing between the secret service and local law enforcement and also that finger-pointing continues inside the ngc stomach agency itself. at a low several people in the agency and they confirm this one long-term agent told me this today is not upper management calling managers "the kings of cover-up" this person also says three things that failed us for lack of a communication, a leadership issue from a lack of personnel which is a leadership issue and lack of use of technology which is also a leadership issue. we are horrible at retention and horrible at hiring. the people who need to be fired are the people in leadership. john, this agent did not want to

10:05 am
i think that acting director today believes he is auditioning for the permanent job. i think given the whistle-blower information we have gotten and given what we all know and have learned about the secret service i am not sure they should go internal and bring some money up through the ranks that is part of the system in place right now. they clearly failed. here is the thing, sandra, they asked for more resources. they have the resources. they've taken about 70% of their resources and reprogrammed them to investigations. that is where all of their resources are. they want to be cyber sleuths, they want to investigate all different kinds of financial crimes, that is the fun stuff. but the formation is protection. they have gotten away from it completely and as someone said it earlier, that is a leadership issue. they should not be begging for more resources. and they should not be making excuses in this press conference. they should get up there and say look it's broken and we are
10:06 am
fixing it. >> sandra: we have to ensure the trust of the american public that they can get this done and they can protect someone like a former president or the current president or whoever resides in the white house and beyond. this is americans 'confidence and an issue on the u.s. secret service. americans losing faith in the secret service, 72% think the u.s. secret service at least moderately responsible for the assassination attempt. they are the ones who want to hear what is set at 2:00 eastern time. while we know it's been three stomach to mike rowe has talked about the mistakes made in trying to protect the former president that day, listen. >> i think what we made an assumption that there was going to be uniform presence out there that there would be sufficient eyes to cover that, that there was going to be counter sniper teams in the agr building and i can assure you we will not make

10:08 am
decisions. obviously that did not happen here. again, they need to get back to the basic core mission. investigations are fun but the protection is the core mission. they have gotten complacent, and they have pushed so much off to local agencies and hsi agents you can't just put them out opposed. and say here you are. >> sandra: to your point when we were hearing from him he was talking about how the locals were on it faster than the secret service. here he was on the breakdown over kirk's having the gun and who spotted it first. >> it is troubling to me we did not get that information as quickly as we should have. we did not know there was this incident going on. the only thing we had was locals were working an issue at 3:00 which would have been the former president's right-hand side which is where the shot came. nothing about man on the roof, nothing about man with a gun, none of that information ever made it over our net. >> sandra: that is a problem.
10:09 am
for me, i will be listening at 2:00 of what morris said about that communications breakdown. while also i want to know what is said about the lack of use of a drone. we have had a drone expert saying this was a no-brainer to have a drone on site. that would have easily seen this 20-year-old kid on a roof in such close proximity to the former president. "new york times" headline talks about the communication flaws in the secret service tech flaws that help this gunman evade detection of the term probably saying the secret service turned down offers to use a surveillance drone at the butler farm rally, the agency also did not bring a system to boost invite signals with poor cellular service. some of the equipment the agency did to bring including a system to detect drone use by others did not work when it was most needed. so, chris, i wonder what they are going to say about this at 2:00, final thought? >> sort of zooming out here i think for 40 years there has
10:10 am
been a mystique around the secret service that they are really good at what they do since the reagan attempt like don't even try to do something at an event like this and i think the mistake has been shattered. and that will embolden as one of the whistle-blower said will embolden any future assassins. look, we have iranian's out there and all kinds of elements so they have to get their came up to speed right away. >> sandra: a collective agency for sure in the former president himself and his family have been quick to come to the defense of money, many hardworking individuals who really carry out their job to the fullest extent of their duty. and they have given them a lot of applause in the wake of what has happened on that day. certainly a lot of questions about the agency as a whole. chris, we will be waiting for it. john? >> john: aaron gratch, john paul we went back on american soil as the united states and russia had the

posting on x "i am honored to be the democratic nominee for president of the united states. i will officially accept the nomination next week." karl rove a chief of staff armor and joins us now. let's talk about where the race is because in some battleground states the polls seem to have been narrowed. trump still leads although one pole has harris up by 2, same in nevada. in wisconsin trump holds a very narrow lead. in michigan trump is ahead. harris is up 11. trump continues to lead in pennsylvania, north carolina, and georgia he still has the advantage, carl but she is gaining momentum, no question. >> no doubt about it. remember, better to look at an average of polls when we don't have a lot of battleground state polls since all of these things begin to shift. take a look at the national number and you get a sense of this. are memorable the first debate

with biden and trump, trump was leading by close to three points or above three points depending when you looked at it, trump today in the real clear politics average is leading 1.2%. and outlier in their polling gives a five-point lead. without that outlier he is leading by less than 1%, 0.8. in fact, if you look at it there were five polls that occurred before the 25th of july. trump leads in all 5 of the five polls held since the 26th of july he leads in two and she leads in three. so i fully expect the momentum she has is going to carry her through unless it is a disastrous vice presidential choice, this momentum will leave her in the lead at the end of the democratic convention. >> john: remember back in 1968 the last time the president dropped out and a successor was named. next and won the election by

0.7%. nixon really took him in the electoral college. and there are polls that show donald trump is going to take the electoral college by a substantial margin. a good piece by kim strassel i'm sure you saw it in "the wall street journal" by the fact that joe biden may not be campaigning for kamala harris but he can help build her path to the election with left-wing presidential giveaways. she said these white house guests and promises are to smooth over cracks and tantalize donors which is the left's plan until november. ensure the general public never again clap's eyes on the failing octogenarian even as he works behind the scenes to ensure key voting groups feel the thrill of progressive power. i mean, there is a lot he can do between now and november. >> look, take a look at what he has been openly saying the last year and a half that we should spend our taxpayer dollars on and they say we have a problem with young voters were not enthusiastic about joe biden so

we will give hundreds of billions of dollars of debt relief from their student loans. and we will take money out of out of the pocketbooks of working americans to pay for their college loans and they are open about it. we are doing it in order to get votes. back to your point about the electoral college between that and the popular vote kamala harris needs to lead by 2-3 points in the popular vote in order to offset the republican advantage in the electoral college which again is another reason why they had these targeted expenditures of public money with assets and part of the electorate i don't think it will ultimately work but they will ensure to make it a. >> john: and once then she tried to do is to get away from the record in the 2020 election. let's see what she said. >> i am in favor of banning fracking. and starting what we can do around public lands. >> into quickly re-examine ice and its role in the way that it

adults with second-degree murder. a teenager in nevada can be charged as an adult with murder if they are 13 years or older when the crime occurred. the d.a.'s office says the state determined juvenile court is best equipped to punish the defendants for their heinous conduct while also attempting to rehabilitate them. they also say they convey the negotiations over the plea deal to the mother of the victim last week prior to the court hearing where it was announced. but lewis' mom says she was blindsided by the plea agreements. >> i was notified, i was not aware there would be a court date. i was also unaware they have made a plea deal. a big shock. a big let down because there is no justice for my son's murder. >> we want to warn you, the video of the attack it went viral, it was very, very disturbing. also five other students were charged in this as well is a 15-year-old just very, very troubling, sandra. >> sandra: christina coleman, thank you. john?
