♪ ♪ unprecedented democratic national convention is about to kick off here in chicago. former president trump facing off with vice president kamala harris all as brand-new fox news rankings reveal that trump has a commanding lead on two issues is likely to define the presidential race. hello everyone this is outnumbered a special coverage of the dnc starts now. i am here with my cohost emily. also joining us fox news contributor president of american spirit enterprises tammy bruce. fox news contributor former state department spokesperson under president obama maria and fox news contributor washington times opinion editor hereto in chicago charlie hurt. we begin with the first fox news power rankings featuring vice president harris at the top of the democratic ticket. they show former president trump

with a commanding lead on the two top issues of the 2024 race. the economy or he is ahead by eight points and immigration he beats the vice president by 13 points there. but kamala harris does appear to be gaining ground ahead of a big week at the dnc for her campaign. charlie, the issue, the economy, immigration, abortion, kamala harris leading on abortion. not the other two. though indeed she appears to be doing better than joe biden. but on the issue of the economy i felt like i was in twilight zone over the weekend sheet debuts h or proposal you expect your cheerleaders at the "washington post" to play ball. indeed they did not. let's pull it out. "washington post" editorial board. not an opinion piece editorial board altogether. they say times demand serious economic ideas but harris supplies gimmicks but they say her speech fred it was an

opportunity to get specific with voters about how a harrah's presidency would manage an economy that many feel is not working for them. unfortunately instead of delivering a substantial plan she squandered that moment on populace gimmicks. even adjusted for the pandering standards of campaign economics. miss harris' speech friday ranks as a disappointment. when you have lost that "washington post" editorial as a democrat. >> right it is extraordinary. i was shocked by that i came away thinking this does not make any sense they will probably gloss right over it. but as you pointed out they did not. the problems with her plans are so obvious even they cannot cover them up. obviously kamala harris has had a good two weeks i would say it's mostly been lots of propaganda. but the fact former president trump is still up by double

digits on a couple of the issues most voters lists as the most important issues for this election i think says an awful lot. the fact the first time she goes out and tries to explain some of the particulars she gets panned across the board not just people like me with the washington post editorial board. that tells an awful lot about the trouble she has laying out the specifics of her vision. >> indeed. senator jd vance talk about inflation he talked about the polling, h here's what he said. >> kamala harris got a sugar high a couple weeks ago for what we have actually seen from her own internal data is that kamala harris has already leveled off if you talk to insiders inside the kamala harris campaign they're very worried about where they are because the american people just do not bite the idea that kamala harris who has been vice president for three and half years is somehow going to tackle the inflation crisis and

working it's working among particular groups of people. let's talk about for a moment climate change and abortion it is incumbent upon the gop to come out and be very specific with white power rested from the hands of the people was to the constitution need to push back and say here is what the abortion issue is about. it is restoring power to your hands this is why the states need to have it. we know for the first time that's part of the republican platform specifically in terms of federal policy. but that is what is important but we cannot just ignore it we have to educate voters as to why that is a successful approach. and then regarding climate change here's what i think it's really important is the number one issue by far that will bode a problem for trump is weak going to the if it's not address conservation matters. tightly it with priority for a lot of those in the republican party. there needs to beat better messaging going out so people do not feel either or it's us them.

she is running on hope and aspiration on the future but you may not like her policies but she is going out there on the campaign trail being joyful prior talk about what we can do as americans together. every time donald trump goes out there he sounds bitter, angry, divisive, confused he is now the old candidate in the race he didn't used to be but he now is. you wil look at our numbers this morning independence kamala harris is doing so well among independents we know that group of voters is going to decide this election many of the states that matter like pennsylvania. she has completely reset this race. this week will be very interesting might party has a lot of work to do to pull up a convention that was as a well produced and impactful as i think the republican convention was you and i talked about this at the time. but kamala harris is running a campaign for the future and as long as donald trump continues focusing on that past and grievances and not trying to expand his voter block like taylor talk to a lot more kamala

harris insiders than jd vance does even though he said he did this morning they feel incredibly good about where this race is but where it's heading voters go to the polls in mere weeks and kamala harris right now is giving the american people something b they once enough activism. >> is a lot there b. the point to look at the future is smart folks in the policy looking for the future is powerful joyful is clearly the buzzword. but a lot of people don't feel joy at the grocery store light now for a lot of people do not feel joy when they went to the housing market right now i know she's trying to distance herself from joe biden's policies but was she be able to do that? she was his wing man. >> this week is going to show us exactly what is likely to happen. but we have seen here with everything condensed into such a short period of time is normally all things being equal at this point in time we would have seen these candidates for a year working against each other. dealing with debates and running in a primary season.

they said advisors had been on the call of the biden pollsters briefed the vice president on these suggestions she told them she was not going to listen to the pollsters herself and instead trust the instincts she had buried under self-doubt for so long. some would say trusting her instincts lead to a terrible vice president so pick and it tim walz over shapiro. >> look. i've never seen my party more united than they are today since probably barack obama. his two very successful at nasdaq national presidential elections. joe biden ran to be a transitional figure. he said that. was it difficult for him to recognize all of the polls, but the american people were telling us they did not want joe biden to be the democratic nominee. wasn't personally difficult process? sure it was. the stakes are so high in every presidential election. joe biden saw the writing on the wall but know what mixture biden do anything he doesn't want to do.
