immigration, but harris has improved our president biden's performance from earlier this year. more on the power rankings will we speak with matt and richard. they will be joining us live coming up. john: fox team coverage starts right now with lucas. how the president is preparing for his keynote speech tomorrow. >> first let's get to jackie. she is live in chicago where major protests are expected. what are we seeing and hearing so far, jackie? hi. >> it's really quite out there right now. you have people working the room right here. some finishing touches going on the stage. they been doing sound and lighting checks. getting ready for the celebration that will kick off tomorrow. the governor really downplayed what may be coming. for now, the focus is on the shift that we are about to witness from biden to harris as the parties foremost leader. she does have momentum as she

picks the baton. a new washington post poll that shows that harris has a narrow lead over trump among narrow registered voters. a big improvement from just one month ago when trump was ahead abided in that sample 43-42%. we will hear a lot of thanks to joe and promises that harris will continue to build on the foundation that he laid it privately, it is much more sensitive. biden is not sticking around to take in the tributes. he will be long gone when obama pelosi and even harris speak later in the week. democrats privately and publicly acknowledge that biden is still feeling the wound. pelosi was recently asked of her long relationship could survive and she replied i hope so, i pray so, i cry so. i lose sleep on it. biden will frame his decision on a choice to put america first.

he will also count his decision to endorse harris quickly allowed the party to shift the focus to defeating the other side. harris is expected to appear with him tomorrow to signal all is good. his signal for her is genuine. tensions will also continue to mount outside of the convention center with anti-israel protesters setting up shop as close as they can get to the action. >> really, the protesters are protesting something that is very far away from here. very important, but it's not about people getting drafted from here going abroad. honestly, i expect we will have peaceful protests. >> another surprise, we learned today that michelle obama is going to speak. that is another effort to keep the focus on the future and not the past or even the president.

economic proposals which say that harris will fix the economy when she has been in the white house that has led us to this point? >> yeah. if you saw her on friday he would've thought she was a challenger. inflation in the housing market at its worst. look, her economic land, she is taking plans for weeks to moderate decisions. the first thing she puts her name on his price controls, subsidizing demand. even the mainstream media. >> price gauging. i'm sorry, i've been on vacation , i missed that one. if she is calling up these companies for what she calls price gouging, the last i checked, that is illegal activity in like 37 states. the states have the power to call these companies out on it. what makes her think she can tell voters that she will somehow cap prices and not run

companies out of business? >> i do think that matt is right it seems as though kamala harris and governor tim walz are the challenges and the momentum seems to be on their side. the key take away is a keen acknowledgment that prices are indeed too high and they are still too high. whether or not she will tackle price gouging will take work of the congress to do that. i do think it's important to point out that there are some items in the grocery store and some items on big box shelves that cost too much. >> according to whom. if i am an economist i will challenge you. according to whom? economics is supply and demand. richard, we will dig into that another time. you avoided the question. when it comes to the top issues for voters i will decide the

next president, it is the economy. these are the new fox news power rankings. 38% say that that is there deciding factor. immigration number two, abortion number three. his abortion that type going to be a challenge for republicans. >> i think abortion animated some of the population that will go to the polls solely based on abortion. unlike 2022, for instance, immigration right there. another group of voters. that will be a battle. republicans keep focused on the economy. keep pressing kamala on it. i think that that will be key to this whole thing. >> when it comes to where harris and trump stand on key qualities , i will get you to weigh in. i asked that because it is almost like she is suggesting that prices are artificially high and that companies are just deciding what they will label

these prices on the shelf. they've gotta pay wages, they've gotta pay utilities, they've gotta pay soaring gas prices. their profit margins have been squeezed. this is a quality that we are seeing in the candidates and where they rank on them. sixteen-point difference there. temperament harris wins. she is up there on where people see them as far as the key qualities of voters are looking for in the candidates. will this help her, richard? >> i think this will absolutely help her. this idea of being single issue voters, i think it is a relic of the past. they are going to the voting box with a grocery cart of issues. i think the fact that you see her doing so well on temperament and so well on those types of issues speak to the fact that the momentum in this race has

johnson going far enough? >> i suspect that the protesters are looking for collaboration within the mayor. i suspect that is the last thing on their mind when they show up. law enforcement officers know how to secure the city. frankly they failed to do it every time in chicago because of the failed matters of the mayor. make no mistake, the police will have their hands full. while we want everyone to have the right to speak in protest freely, i suspect the protesters that come to chicago have different thoughts in their mind and they will make this as difficult for the dnc as they possibly can in the security professionals need to make sure that they are prepared for that. >> we will see. kamala harris and the second gentleman walking down the steps of air force two. they are in pittsburgh for a big rally to kick off the week. >> all eyes are on her right now

have crossed illegally into the united states and been allowed to stay. most of it is an organic process in which migrants crossing the united states are allowed to stay here and then go to wherever they were heading in the first place. you cannot have 7 million people across the border and all of them stay in eagle pass. that will not work. they are going all throughout the country and they are burdening a lot of municipalities. chicago is one of them. washington, d.c. is one of them. new york city is one of them. pretty much able -- every mid side city in the country is feeling this. >> you just look at the numbers and migrants are coming to the city since the beginning of the crisis. that number is nearing for the thousand. for the thousand have come into that city.

we know that the hospitals are overwhelmed spirit we have seen the police precincts inundated. we saw the city council fights that have erupted in the suburbs surrounding chicago because so many of them have been put on trains and sent out to the outer suburbs of that city. they been dealing with this for quite some time and they are fed up. the soccer fields are taken over this is a drop in the bucket in their complaining about that. this city has been dealing with that for years. >> i suspect that we will not hear a lot about those burdens from the podium at the democratic convention. the fact is that those problems are in fact there. you will hear, i think, kamala harris and perhaps others in the biden administration saying the flow of immigrants has slowed dramatically recently. it could lead to the question you could have stopped it all along? anytime you wanted? but it has been reduced somewhat

now. i think that the trust problem for voters listening to kamala harris saying that she will secure the border after the four years of the biden administration in which whatever her title was she had a significant role in border policy. after all of that it is hard for anyone to actually believe that she would secure the border. >> you regardless of what her title was. she seems to be running away from having anything to do with it because it is not a good situation, to be clear. we are looking live at kamala harris. she has arrived in a rainy pittsburgh. she is talking to supporters on the ground there as she and her husband make their way ahead of their big bus to her which will kick off moments from now just hours ahead of the beginning of the dnc. this is jim jordan earlier. i want to play this out. he joined fox and friends this morning slamming the biden

harris administration on what is happening at the border. this is one of the biggest issues for voters. >> 99 people on the terrorist watch list were released in the country. the person involved of all of this, they just made their nominee. when 10 million people come into this country illegally the equivalent of the entire population of ohio. >> just think about that, byron. >> it is a huge problem. the polls showed that large numbers of americans think this is the most important problem facing the country. if they don't think it's the most important they think that it is the second most important after inflation. it is a serious, serious issue. the problem with anybody from the biden administration including the vice president saying that they will now secure the border, the problem is the record of the last four years in which they did not.
