assassination attempt, former president trump stood on stage next to robert f. kennedy jr. yesterday announcing his plans to the create an independent presidential commission on assassination attempts to investigate his july 13th shooting and in honor of kennedy's father and uncle. watch. >> they will be tasked with releasing all of the remaining documents pertaining to the assassination of president john f. kennedy -- [cheers and applause] they will also conduct a rigorous review of the attack last month. they never provided us with the number of people that we should have had for the massive rallies that we had. they never gave us the number of people in terms of secret service people that were necessary. >> reporter: this comes as at least five secret service agents were assigned to administrative duty following the failed the attempt on trump's life at that rally in butler, pennsylvania. that includes one member of trump's personal detail and four members of the pittsburgh field

office including the special agent in charge. the agents are now working remotely as they are no longer allowed in the field. house speaker mike johnson said this. quote, today's decision to place multiple agents on leave is the agency's to first step towards accountability, but it comes 41 days after the attempt on president trump's life, and it's nowhere near enough. and we are also learning a whistleblower has come forth claiming officials at secret service headquarters encouraged agents not to request extra security for trump's butler rally, pointing to to trump as a former president and not the incumbent president or vice president. the information comes to light in a a letter by senator josh hawley demanding answers from the agency. lawmakers are planning to visit the site on monday, guys. pete: eager to hear more about that whistleblower who's saying internally they were told do not give more assets to trump in this outdoor venue in butler, pennsylvania. which means what the secret

service director at the beginning said wasn't true. rachel: or on that first day, pete, we were the first ones on after the shooting on fox really, and the spokesperson for the secret service member kept giving these saints -- pete: they had all the assets they needed. ly --ly, i remember that. will: we had congressman waltz on earlier. >> i applaud the president for doing this because he and himself personally, his first administration and then how he's conducting himself in this campaign is all about transparency. president trump is trying to bring whatever transparency he can on to the federal government and restore people's trust in the intelligence community, in the justice department and across their government. and so much trust has been lost. my frustration is the fbi and the secret service are moving at a snail's pace. they're acting like this is a

one-time incident that we can take our time to really unpack. no. these plots are happening right now as we speak. we have a foreign enemy trying to to kill our former president. we need to be releasing information as we get it, and they need to move a lot faster, in my view. pete: they sure do. remember when obama said he was going to be the most transparent administration of all time and then, of course, he was the opposite? same with biden. when you see trump on stage with rfk jr., a man whose uncle was assassinated, we never got the answers, still don't have them, the closest thing you're going to get to real transparency across the government, people running against the system willing to open the books on any number of issues. rachel, you listed a number of them. we deserve that at this point. for a country likes ours to actually attempt to function with all of our difference, you need complete information. for an incident like that in butler, pennsylvania, for us to still have all the questions we

have right new and five guys on administrative leave? that's not fired, by the way, that means you're on pause. still not enough. rachel: yeah. we need answers, and i think a too often -- first of all, nobody trusts any of these agencies that are doing the investigation, that's the first problem. but i think having rfk jr. and donald trump, both people who were not given proper secret service protection and then, of course, rfk's history with assassination in his family, donald trump having experienced that, i just believe this is a moment where these two forces are are promising to go up against the system. and this, i really honestly believe this is the last chance that americans have to get to the bottom of this. if the other side wins, i truly believe we'll never mow the answer to these questions that you're bringing up and never have trust in these institutions again. will: it's been now 34 days we haven't heard kamala harris answer any serious questions, no interview, no press conference.

her deputy campaign manager says, don't worry, it's coming. >> reporter: when will she sit down with the media in a one-on-one capacity and answer our questions? >> i think she'll sit down on her time. look, as you mentioned, this was a truncated time frame. we have made sure we were getting out talking to voters. i think people forget just how short of a time frame it has been. we had a change at the top of the ticket, we elected a brand new vice presidential nominee pick in governor walz. we had to host a convention, and we had to make sure that a we're communicating with voters. so there's no rest for the wicked. our campaign's going to continue to do all the things we need to do, and vice president harris will make herself available to speak to the press on her time and when she's ready. pete: okay. will: on her time and when she's ready. [laughter] pete: here's the problem, they know she's not ready, and she won't be ready, you know? it was the debate that undermined bide when the world finally saw his capabilities. the same could happen, i guess,

on september 10th, but they're doing everything they can to prevent an unforced error until then. will: i mean, it's smart political calculation, it is. i mean, i think she had an effective speech for her cause on thursday night. that doesn't mean i don't think it was full of lies. it was full of lie, phony, shallow, but i think effective. a lot of voters, a lot, a lot of voters don't dig in deep. and you tell a nice personal story, you throw out positive vibes, and my point is they control her. they control how she's exposed, and it's smart. it's smart because once you sit her down for an interview and she can't have that manufactured environment or a debate, it's not going to go as well. go ahead. rachel: they control her, i think is the key phrase in what you just said. they're not just controlling this campaign and how it's rolling out and the pact thatst -- fact that it's just plague out on tiktok and she's essentially an a.i. candidate, but they're going to control her if she's elected.

she is a replaceable stand-in for whoever is running this government at this moment. we know it's not joe biden. he's on the beach. she's clearly not running anything, she's on the campaign trail taking controlled, you know, questions. but who's running this country? that's the question of this election. pete: that's the other trick they're trying to pull. forward. well, you've been -- you were the last three and a half years. and that's, mark penn, by the way, was on -- i don't know what show it was, hannity, talking about -- he's a pollster talking about how the harris campaign is doing everything they can to to talk about the future and separate themselves from, you know, the other guy that was the front of the hyphen, biden-harris, for three and a half years. watch. >> some magic has been deployed here. [laughter] the premise of the campaign is that donald trump, not joe biden, the is the incumbent president. and they basically suspended time. the last four years didn't exist. kamala harris was not vice president and, instead, she's charting some way forward. you go to the web site and it

says doe mate, it's got nothing there. and it's there's a $5 trillion tax increase but, hey, regardless, they're moving mt. polls. so far this -- in the polls. so far this strategy of no interviews, broad themes, limited policies, pretend she wasn't part of the administration, donald trump's the incumbent in the past, it's working so far. it's going to come to a head, i think, on september 10th with the debate that cannot be scripted where these two are going to to go person to person, and we're going to see whether or not this campaign holds up or whether donald trump can defeat her as he defeated the last presidential candidate. pete: yeah. they may find an opportunity to find the friendliest confines they can before september soth -- september 10th -- will: what would that be, msnbc? pete: something hike that. then you can say check the box. all we're doing is checking boxes, will. then you spend ten days hunkering down preparing for the debate so you can give a b performance, whatever, just

enough to say, okay, that's done, we did that, and then you keep hiding out. will: if you were advising her, that's what you'd say to do. pete: that that's what they did with joe biden. they used covid as an excuse to say, hey a, you don't need to see or hear from this guy, we'll have him read a script each day, and you can vote for the avatar. that's what's happening right now. rachel: that's why the american people are in charge right here. they can decide whether they want this kind of new way of campaigning, you know, this new kind of election where you don't have to to encounter real voters and questions. you don't have to encounter your opponent. this is the new standard they're trying to set. meanwhile, donald trump is running a traditional a campaign, i'll meet again, talk to anybody, go to the border, talk to anybody whose families were killed by people at the border, i'll talk with waitresses who are dealing with their tips and what's going to happen in the next election. meanwhile -- will: and they'll do, they, honestly, any party --

rachel: it's the end of democracy if they pull this off. will: any party, switch whenever you want, last minute. don't expose your policies or yourself to any scrutiny. and give a vibes campaign. and if it works, why wouldn't every candidate or every party try to do that? if. pete: they pretty much, it started for the most part under obama. i mean, it was a hope and change candidate who was very soft about what he said he stood for. and he rode in on the warm glow of media coverage and almost no scrutiny on his background. rachel: that's right. pete: that's what they're counting on here. rachel: absolutely. pete: by the way, part of what they're doing as well is looking at popular policy positions donald trump is saying and -- is taking and saying, i'm for that too. that includes, of course, no act that on tips. former president trump was in las vegas yesterday and pointed out someone's homework's being copied. >> we're going to turn our country around, we're going to make america great again. of your tip income and not be harassed. kamala harris is now pretending to endorse my policy. she's got a lot of other policies. she should just -- she's a copycat. [laughter] but, in fact, kamala cast the tie-breaking vote to hire 87,000 the new irs agents to to go after your tip income. they're going after it in a lot of ways. accused of threatening to the the kill president trump made his first court appearance via video from a county jail yesterday. and italian prosecutors launch a manslaughter investigation following monday's deadly super yacht disaster off of sicily. the investigation is not yet aimed at any individual. the ship capsized during a storm killing seven people. including british tech tycoon, mike lynch and his 18-year-old daughter. a family spokesman saying, quote, the lynch family is devastated, their thoughts are with everyone affected by the tragedy. prosecutors say the victims may have been asleep and that's why they did the not escape the yacht. what are we looking at there? will: hard to say. pete: i can't tell if that's the yacht in the distance through the rain. all right. this afternoon nasa is expected to reveal whether boeing's starliner capsule is safe enough the fly its crew back home. butch will more and sunny

think that it's viewed like it's 54-46, trump versus harris. if you looked at that, first of all, not all of voting, i saw it was less than .2. so that's quite negligible. and me to you, i think this is a choice election. i don't think robert f. kennedy's going to impact it. but we'll just wait and see. it's only 24 hours old, right? will: okay. one more thing because the significance is not just the potential impact, but the coffer of the new york post says a kennedy endorses donald trump. that's a pretty big statement. and if your initial point was, well, he's been all over the place, he wanted to reach out to harris. but ultimately, robert, he did go with trump. now, you can dismiss that as a rfk's all over the place, but i think we all a deserve to give him the respect the answer of why he did it, and both he and shanahan are saying there is policy overlap. not total disagreement with trump. but it's really about the process. they're saying your party has closed down itses process to the voters and any competition.

and for the last 12 the years, this is according to shanahan, has selected their candidates from a pool selected by heats and by donors. and they're not in on this. they want to actually participate in dem do crass, and their answer to that -- democracy and their answer the that is donald trump. >> yeah. i don't know who shanahan is. i think that if you asked 100 people, 99.9% wouldn't know who she is. so the idea that she's impacting the democratic voter is a zero. will: that's so dismissive. >> -- on behalf of fox the last four days, and it was electric. and you can see by the polls, you know, right now it's the pretty much even. i mean, that -- will: i would just say, i've got to go. i would just say, look, and you and i are getting to know each other. i think that sounds very dismissive, and that's the charge. democrats are dismissive of the voters. and to say you don't know who nicole shanahan is, first of all, she's been a big donor to the democratic party. it sounds very dismissive as she's telling you the problem

now do disappeared. they're being sent to reeducation camps. they're in jail. they're being fortured. tell us what's the -- ortured. tell us what's happening to them and if anybody from the international community is coming to their defense. >> well, effectively, maduro's response to this huge defeat was to unleash a campaign of terror. this has been brutal. over 2,000 people have been arrested or disappeared. volunteers that only worked at getting the tally sheets and as observers of the voting process, their homes have been raided. there even have been mark with crosses on the doors of those houses. people are being stopped in the street, and cell phones are looked at even if they tweeted or said something that supported us. edmundo and myself, we've been accused of terrorists, and most

of our team and colleagues are at this time in hiding to protect us. but we will keep on fighting, peacefully protesting increasing pressure domestically and internationally until maduro understands that his best so to accept the terms of a negotiation that would bring us to the transition to democracy. rachel: what exactly, and i don't have much time, what exactly do you want the international community to do? what would help bring about justice in this election? >> first of all, international community and the united states have to hold maduro accountable and his criminal regime by all a means possible. secondly, edmundo gonzalez has to be recognized as the president-elect because he is. third, international community has to stop maduro from forcing our children to leave our

country. we want to stop migration. and if this keeps going, millions of venezuelans will leave. and we want that those that have gone out even to the united states come back to build our country. and we want to enshire you -- ensure you that we will ensure that venezuela doesn't function as a dependent proxy of russia and as a hub of criminal organizations and -- [inaudible] at cities right now. we will turn venezuela into a democratic nation, truly engage with our partners -- [inaudible] in the united states to promote security and prosperity for all. we have the chance now. we need your support and we will provail -- prevail. rachel: you are probably the bravest woman in the if western hem fear. we pray for your cause and hope that people in the harris-biden administration are listening.

platitude, very thin on any particular policy. is she going to get away with this? >> no, she can't. look, democrat convention, the appearance if is attract thive, but the reality is ugly -- attractive, but the reality is ugly and bad and awful and senseless whether you're the border, whether you're talking about the economy or here whether you're talking about education. he's going to do a tour. what's he going to do, a tour of empty classrooms which was, remember randi weingarten, the head of the teachers' union? if we can't open the schools? maybe he'll tour empty schools or stools with 7-year-olds with masks on or -- schools with 7-year-olds with masks on. because that was their policy. they certainly didn't increase math and reading scores. pete: no. >> we have an expression called the joy of learning. and my wife, who is in the schools, tells me -- and she's been in more recently than i have -- the learning's not there, and the joy's not there.

they have not been good for american education. pete: no doubt at all. if we have to get a stance from her on education, mr. secretary, we need to go back to her 2020 the platform because she hasn't laid out anything now recently. she was for universal preschool, of course teacher pay raises, targeted student loan forgiveness in california and she was a senator, education for girls and minorities. when she was the d.a., again, more debt forgiveness. so there's a lot of it had to do with more money. and you've seen, as the education secretary, does more money equal better outcomes? and you talk about the joy. have these diversity, equity and inclusion programs they've pushed all across our programs, has that increased the educational benefit for kids? >> no. and the joy hasn't increased, the tension has increased because of dei. but you smartly point out that list of hers, it's money. money, money, money. and i expect if he does a tour

of the current education secretary of those battleground states, he'll have his checkbook, and that's what they'll talk about. they have given a ton of money, of course, that's their constituency. what, pete, maybe 30, 40% of the people at that convention were members of a union, teachers' union or married to a member of a teacher's union. huge representation. it's a bribe, basically. and we know that more money doesn't mean better schools. pete: president can you think of an issue that's more clarifying between the left and the right these days than education? you're right, the left is totally captured by public school interests and money whereas you've seen a renaissance in school choice from conservatives in red states that a want to to give parents more choice. also they define freedom as freedom to have these smutty books in the classroom for miles per hours. i mean, education is a really clear fault line. >> yeah. no, i'm part of the education
