5:02 am
attempts to retaliate over death of one of the top leaders. >> jeff paul have been following it in israel and joins us from tel-aviv with the latest. hey, jeff. >> despite folks here in tel-aviv basically getting back to their normal day running their ere regards going to work this is a tense moment after fighting in hezbollah and escalated to proportions we haven't seen in quite some time. they have lifted some of those restrictions, the government here in israel that they placed on the public. but they are going to be watching hezbollah very closely to figure out and see what they do next. now we know this all started early this morning. local time israel launched a wave of air strikes targeting hezbollah infrastructure using roughly 100 fighter jets. this was a pre-emptive strike after israeli intelligence received information that hezbollah was mounting a massive attack on israel. hezbollah then fired upwards of 320 rockets and drones all mostly targeting northern israel
5:03 am
now some local media is reporting hezbollah had plans to launch estimated 6,000 rockets and uav to central israel as we await to hear later today the militant group since issued a statement saying their military operation for today has been completed and accomplished. israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu reacting also saying this. >> we are determined to do everything we can to protect our country, return the residents of the north safely to their homes and continue to uphold a simple rule. whoever hurts us, we hurt them. >> now the u.s. has confirmed it had no involvement in israel pre-emptive strike in lebanon but they'll be involved today in the ongoing cease-fire negotiations that are set to resume in cairo egypt back to you. >> thank you, jeff. bring in shannon bream fox news anchor chief correspondent now.

shannon good morning to you. love to start with this story. and let's look at it through the lens of american politickings. it is fascinating to think we talk often what will be animating vote when it comes to this election because kamala harris has tried to protect herself on both planks she did so in her speech she talked about both israel and talked about what was happening in gaza. in fact let's attack listen to what she had to say and threading a needle in the way that works politically. j i will always ensure israel has the ability to defend itself at the same time what has happened in gaza over the past ten months is devastating. so many innocent lives lost -- will: what do you think, shannon? >> i don't know if you can tell i was in the forum at the yeented center when she gave that speech and there was definitely you can hear it applause for israel right to defend itself.
5:05 am
there were a few voices here and there yelling things like free palestinian there was nothing organized there in the united center but when she made that follow-up line about the people of palestine, the applause went to another level. so it seen there was a bigger endorsement of that apartment of the that conversation and democrats avoided too much of the optics of the protest that went on outside there were dozens of arrest but it was pretty much under control. it is a really trky thing for her, though, because you heard from so many people who were angry that at the dnc, there was not somebody allowed to speak to the pro-palestinian position from the stage. so i think that, you know, democrats are trying to manage that very carefully. they, you know, acknowledge that it is definitely part of the party and part of the conversation. but they don't want to put that fighter, that faction within the parties on full display and they didn't do it at the stage on the dnc. pete: let's move to domestic politics you as well campaign for president and starts after
5:06 am
labor day and the sprint is starting before labor day as happens with everything. everything gets sped up and both campaigns are going to be in battle ground states this week on tuesday, jd vance will be in michigan. on wednesday harris and walz in georgia thursday trump in michigan, wisconsin and harris in georgia that day and trump in pennsylvania. so they're making traditional conventional campaign stops. but michael goodwin of the new york "posted" on the harris side it is deja blue so asked this to cory lune do corey lewandowski how does the trump campaign force her into where it isn't bubble wrapped choreographed into q and a and more debates. can they do that? shannon: the september 10th debate that is the thing unless the media decides to also -- agree that she needs to start answering some questions, it is simply not going to happen.
5:07 am
i mean, occasional on the tarmac you know a question here or there with this person has now been -- essentially the nominee for more than a month didn't have to go through a single primary debate or you know vetting by the voters in the primaries or the caucus she's not done one sit down interview and listen you have ten, 11 week left so if you're her campaign this is working for you. you've got the vibes, polls you're goapg get a bump for the dnc but the question michael raises is why are we not hearing more about her policies? she hasn't formulated them or think they're not going to be popular with certain segments of the american people who may not vote for them. so i think trump campaign has to keep doing their events push her to do some as well. and i think it is going to have to be the mainstream media saying okay, styming up. it is time to sit down she said by the end of the month we're getting there. it is very close. rachel: they have to smoke her out own voters will decide whether it was a good strategy
5:08 am
or not. on -- on election day. meanwhile, this past weengsd it's been really interesting to see rfk jr. suspend his campaign and then endorse donald trump. no one has ever seen anything like this he's such a -- basically a member of royalty. democrat royalty coming out, and endorsing a republican, and his family is not happy. and so they've come out and made very public statements it is not the first time shannon. but they've come out to make very public statements disavowing him and really criticizing him for doing that in response to that our own tammy bruce posted this on x she said your family has stayed loyal and protective of family members who have done the most appalling of things. but the moment one of your own acts on his own conscience for this country you attempt to
5:09 am
throw him to the wolves in publicly condemn him. never a word for the trial of abused or abandoned women left behind by kennedy. but because one of your men supports trump in an effort to make lives of americans better, that alone is beyond the peal. your thoughts, shannon? >> it is a really pointed post she talks through a number of the scandals and criminal activity alleged against a number family members yet they stood together. and remember, st. patrick's day this year the kennedy family and mass went to the white house and posed with president biden. and posted that, i mean clearly in response to pushing back on rfk jr., you know, campaign at that time. and so, the family has been eat to break with him, and this latest statement from them is saying you know, that he's the one destroying his kennedy legacy. that kind of thing. so -- tam m makes really good points and questions listen if you've stood with family members
5:10 am
through the accusation and scandals how is it that the endorsement of someone you don't agree with finally tippings scales and breaks open that loyalty? >> this topic was so personal to me because my husband i, obviously, come from a family that was in politickings. my husband like rfk your is one of 11 kids, and he's from a swing state in wisconsin so there were -- lots of different political opinions his parents were bernie bros. so-so you know, they would have never come out and publicly denounce his. his mother had a duffy sticker for congress and don't know if she voted for sean but it is so communist to come out against your own family and divide, and let politics and ideology be bigger than family which is just appalling to me. so -- i thought it was interesting good on tammy for writing that. pete: something you get a chance to ask him on fox news sunday rfk jr. on your show.
5:11 am
shannon: exclusive with us and will be with us in studio how did he get to this place with trump? was he promised something? are there all kinds of questions that people have about this pivot. he's also acknowledged how tough it has been for his family and his wife that he's making this decision so talk to him about that, and about his detractors who were worried that he would end up, you know, running hhs or doing something health related within -- a trump administration should president trump be reelect sod we'll talk about that all of that and more and, of course, rachel your interview about food safety he talked about that friday night said that is one of the reasons that he has decided that trump is the better of the options. for voters this fall. >> make america healthy again is trending on x right now. so it's definitely making a splash and people are very interested in this topic and getting rid of the corruption in our government and in our food. so -- >> thank you, shaun. thank you shannon. thanks guys see you later. will: i think that mistake that
5:12 am
you're making and it is a understandable mistake because we would all be attempted to do this to look at the kennedys through lens of a normal family and not making insult to think of like how do you not politics above family? i read killing kennedy by bill o'reilly what you need towns is the political identity of that family, is the identity. meaning, even though kind of would wonder what jfk politic bees today and more centric but he's a democrat. they are democrats that is core to the kennedy identity. pete: the brand. rachel: also catholic clearly family made a deal that they would put that very important part of their value system aside. and support the democrat party it is something i have a lot of questions about as well. i agree. but ultimately -- will: democrats catholics, family. i'm serious like that's -- rachel: certainly on that issue it would appear that's the case
5:13 am
but i think it is interesting because the core values that rfk and rfk sr. and jfk stand for, this -- so many of these things are now being trampled by the idea of democracy, idea that you know, you should have elections that aren't, you know, primaries that aren't rigged the way that the democrats did. i just think that these issues are now getting so big that these other issues are becoming secondary. pete: i'm glad this so-called dynasty is being disrupted they've been held up on a pedestal for hyperinflated reasons so much other -- scandals nonsense out there like enough. enough with the whole -- and him doing this sort of breaks some of that mold. i don't know. rachel: i think there's a lot of good that might come from this endorsement. pete: we shall see. nasa says two astronauts struck in space for 80 days cannot return to earth until 2025. rachel: madeleine rivera joins

agency decision and understand this is part of the job. >> butch and sunny had plans after returning from ten days in space go weekings out, three week or a month out that have all changed now. but you know, nasa has a very good filter to select folks that are mentally strong. and are able to adjust these guys are professionals. they will be able to adjust and come off with flying colors. >> nasa, though, isn't framing this as a setback agency says that star liners uncrewed flight back to earth will allow them to gather more data will as they say pay dividends for human exploration. star liner is expected to leave from the space station and land back on earth in september. will pete and rachel. rachel: thank you madeleine. will: turning to additional headlines, islamic state claiming responsibility for knife attack that left three dead and eight hurt. at a festival in germany friday

what's happened? sh -- this is the biggest con i've seen in modern politics. kamala harris 2019 was cosponsor of the green new deal. alexandria ocasio-cortez green new deal and cast a tie breaking from inflation reduction act. climate is supposed to be the existential threat and in crisis an emergency, the biden-harris administration was talking openly, "the washington post" associated press declaring national climate emergency. and all of a sudden summer 2024 everything goes silent. and why is that? because according to "the washington post," "the new york times," they have found and focus groups they have found in polling they have found this across the board that there's just no concern over climate change in america. it is dropped even in these polls by mainstream media out of
5:24 am
top issues it is not even in top half. what's happened is they've moved on and framed it according to "new york times" as issue of freedom an climate solutions are freedom. this is after they talked about banning gas powered cars. restricting meat eating gas stoves, thermostat control, cnn promoting travel passports and now silent on this existential threat of the 21st century we're being conned. rachel: no question about it. is this a message to the trump campaign hey talk about what they did on climate change? [laughter] >> yes. this is a huge opening -- it is time they need to ridicule what kamala harris has said and done remember she was the one who said climate, the root causes of immigration and the southern border was climate change. and she actually went down to investigate they can't let her get away with this tim walz vice presidential pick, is the same way she was going back a decade
5:25 am
trying same tactic and told minnesota to support obama climate bills because we would all be rich from it. they're all emphasizing this fake -- government supported green jobs so-called and they're getting labor unions involved and the idea is we're going subsidize through trillion dollars and inflation reduction act was a couple of hundred but now over one trillion and raising so this money is being pumped in. that's how they're trying to sell it. as some kind of cash scam for peel to get rich off of no longer do we face the tipping point 12 years existential threat they know the public is not buying that scientific claptrap. rachel: hopefully the voters are connecting the fact that they are attacking american energy. and oil, and gas, and that that's actually what's driving up prices. really fast before we go, when did aoc say that the world was going to -- we were going to get flooded or -- miami was going to be underwater in 12 years?
