white house, which the president should be coming in shortly. griff. that's right. lawrence. william. pete. good morning. and i think we can take you maybe back to that live shot of marine one sitting in rehoboth beach, delaware. that's where any moment now we expect president biden to board that for about a 55 minute flight. he will be flying back here to the white house, where he's expected to join vice president harris in the situation room for a meeting with the u.s. hostage negotiation team. he was expected to depart promptly at 8:00. obviously, it's a few minutes after. that's why we're keeping eyes on it. the meeting scheduled in the situation room, expected to begin at 915, for the team to try and find ways to secure the release of the remaining 101 hostages. now
5:04 am
yesterday, president biden released a statement following the killing of the six hostages, saying this, quote, it is as tragic as it is reprehensible. make no mistake. hamas leaders will pay for these crimes, and we will keep working around the clock for a deal to secure the release of the remaining hostages. biden has been keeping a low profile since ending his reelection bi. he was last here at the white house on august 19th and has since been vacationing first in southern california, then there in rehoboth, delaware. harris, meanwhile, also releasing a statement yesterday saying this i strongly condemn hamas continued brutality, and so must the entire world. as vice president, i have no higher priority than the safety of american citizens. wherever they are in the world. but securing a deal now may be harder than ever. former envoy for hostage affairs in the trump administration had this to say to you guys a little earlier. it may very well be that the negotiations within those separate cabinet rooms could be as intractable as negotiations with the enemy,
5:05 am
because in our case, we need an all of government response. every agency has to give up an equity or two to make this happen. now after the meeting this afternoon, biden and harris traveled to battleground pennsylvania to make their first campaign appearance together. as harris tries to balance presenting herself as the candidate of change, promising a, quote, new way forward, while also being the sitting vice president tied to an unpopular president's policies on things like the economy and the border. and harris also threading the needle a little bit as she has stood by president biden's defense of israel's right to defend itself, but also becoming more vocal and forceful or forceful in some ways, in terms of the plight of palestinians in gaza. we'll see whether or not either have any comments to say as we continue to watch the movement of president biden there from rehoboth, headed here to the white house. pete lawrence, emily, nice of him to maybe show up for a day of work. thank you. griff. i'm sure

hamas is shaking because of his statement right now. right. well, now we go to trey yingst, who is live with the latest on the ground there in tel aviv. trey yeah. hey, guys. good morning. demonstrations erupted across israel overnight as the country's health ministry confirmed that six israeli hostages were executed in hamas captivity. thousands of protesters blocked the main highway through israel's second largest city of tel aviv. clashes erupted between police and protesters, with security forces bringing horses and water cannons to clear the road. the demonstrators demanded that the government reach a hostage agreement and bring the remaining captives in gaza home. take a look. there are clear disagreements between israeli leadership, between israel's defense minister yoav gallant and the country's prime minister, benjamin netanyahu. for the people here in the streets of tel aviv, they are not interested in politics. they are not interested in what the government has to say unless it is bringing the

hostages home. we do know that we want a deal now, because those people are supposed to be home. yesterday the unrest about the hostages shifted to civil protests with a broad general strike announced today. israel's international airport was on strike for two hours this morning, affecting incoming and outgoing flights. other transportation affected as well, including jerusalem's light rail train. now, with frustration growing across israel about the lack of a dea, president biden will meet with vice president harris in the situation room later today to meet with the american negotiating team. officials in washington will look for a way forward to move the cease fire talks from where they're at currently, trying to get both israel and hamas an exit ramp to end the war. the uncertainty about gaza comes as israel launched fresh airstrikes against the iran backed group hezbollah in southern lebanon overnight. now, today marks 332 days of war between israel and hamas. and currently, diplomatic efforts have failed. guys trey, what how do you
5:08 am
really believe a ceasefire is imminent? we hear talk from the white house about saying this is a final deal. i don't really know what a final deal means, since there could always be another one. but does this execution of these hostages create the opportunity for a deal with the devil, which is ultimately what israel would have to do here? it certainly ratcheted up the pressure on the situation on the ground, because, remember, these talks have been ongoing for months, going back and forth between cairo, egypt and doha, qatar, and they've been at a standstill over two major things the philadelphia corridor, the strip of land between egypt and gaza, and the tarime corridor, a supply route for the israelis. hamas says they won't sign a deal if israeli forces are there. israel says they're keeping their troops on the ground. you know, trey, i'm curious. the protesters that are in the street, the people that are upset with the administration, bibi, has not been sitting on his hands. you have the idf special forces that are going in trying to rescue the hostages. is it that they want
5:09 am
him to stop doing that and get the deal done, or do both get a deal done and go after them because you can't do both? yeah. the people demonstrating are for the war against hamas, but they want the hostages out through diplomatic means. they're concerned that if the conflict on the ground continues, more of the hostages will be executed by hamas and many of the protesters we spoke with said they weren't really involved in politics. they didn't have a strong opinion about the actions. the government should take. they just wanted to stand in solidarity with the families, with their fellow countrymen who are in the streets of israel, demanding that these hostages be released from hamas captivity. trey, you interviewed some of those released hostages in your book, black saturday. what were those conversations like? yeah, absolutely. as some of the reporting got under way at the beginning of this war, i thought we should write a book about this. so people don't forget about october 7th, the day this all began. and as part of the reporting for black
5:10 am
saturday, i actually interviewed some of the hostages that were dragged into gaza on october 7th. and then released as part of the november ceasefire deal. one woman, hen almog-goldstein from the community of kfar aza in southern israel, described to me how her husband was executed in front of her. hamas militants then in her house, killed her daughter, shooting her in the head before dragging pen and her other children into the gaza strip. it is one of many horrific stories that need to be told. people cannot forget about what happened on october seventh, and so i chronicle many of these stories in black saturday, speaking with the hostages about what it was like to be taken into the tunnels beneath gaza, some of them were held in hospitals inside the gaza strip. and then again later released as part of that november ceasefire deal. black saturday comes out on october 1st. the week where this country will mark one year since that massacre. true. i mean, we all can't wait to read it. and you're absolutely
5:11 am
right. it's frankly difficult to hear about, but it was unfathomable to live through it. and people did. and many people didn't live through it. so your book is paramount in for us knowing those stories, remembering them and refusing to forget about those hostages still in captivity by evil. great job, trey, thank you very much. i mean, that reminder that trey just gave us in the book is good on him for doing the work to put that in the record. you know, we're about to come up on september 11th here in this country. and yet how much have we forgotten as far as our borders are wide open and the terrorist threat higher than it's really ever been in our own nation? this is only 330 days from october 7th. it'll be the first anniversary. but when you're calling for negotiations and a cease fire, you have to remember who hamas is. oh yeah. you know, their their whole goal is the eradication of the jewish state. they murdered civilians. the crimes are everybody knows what they are. so how do you cut a deal with them? that doesn't then i just that's why i think it's been so intractable. we can't trust him. we can't remember here,
5:12 am
pete, because we got the little jihadis in the middle of the street protesting every single day, trying to change the way we do business in america. and, you know, when we look at this, a lot of the people in america who aren't political observers say, okay, this is just israel's enemy. they're our enemy as well. as we look at the live look waiting for the former president, i'm sorry, the current president, it may seem like former because we haven't seen him in two weeks, to take marine one to the white house, where he's going to be holding meetings in the situation room, guys. and, you >> emily: we spoke with hugh who reminded us that we are coming up on inauguration day and i'm reminded pow's whose wives lobbied the administration to make sure americans did not forget about missing and captive

so dangerous. asking questions is important, she needs to do press conferences so we see where she stands on every issue. there are real world consequences. we had a family member on earlier today, this is how they put it. >> as far as messaging to the israeli government, my government, it is that selling and perpetuating victory over hamas based on sacrifice of sons, daughters, grandparents, hostages in gaza, we have been at this for 11 months, hearing from our government more military pressure is going to cause hamas to come begging for agreement in exchange of hostages. that has not happened, six
5:15 am
bodies were returned and hostages were alive until this past week. it is absolutely clear. only way to get hostages home alive is by some kind of negotiated agreement with satan and keeping in mind all of israel's intelligence and senior command have been saying for weeks and months that is the fighting need to stop to get hostages back as many as possible alive and all of the 101 hostages still remain. >> lawrence: this father is doing what a father should do, advocate for the release of his child. hamas is a terrorist organization that wants after hostages are released which many are not released, they want to kill them.
5:16 am
they want them to be annihilated and that is the hard part. benjamin netanyahu, pr wise, of how it looks, the fantasy hamas will say put down your arms. last draft was sinwar wanted immunity, the person that organized october 7. when i release hostages, israel, you can no longer go after me. sorry, that is a nonstarter. that is osama bin laden saying, don't come after me, u.s. it is asinine, of course the prime minister netanyahu cannot say that. >> pete: all america had to say, you better give our people back, 100%. israel, do what you got to do to get rid of hamas. we have secretary of defense
